Name: Marshall Kentrick Age: 38 Region of Origin: Sinnoh Role: Headmaster
Bio: From the day he was old enough to understand it, Marshall wanted nothing more than to be a Pokemon trainer. Like all trainers, he wanted to become the greatest of all someday, but the true appeal to him was the adventure. Traveling the world, throwing yourself into battle, experiencing things no book or classroom could ever impart... Truly, the world was always a playground for him. He traveled far and wide, becoming an exceptional trainer through his years of effort. What he lacked in formal training, he made up for in an unyielding spirit and an unquenchable thirst for his next grand adventure. Through the years, he gained many Pokemon partners, even tragically losing some along the way. He fought many battles both small and grand, and more than once he even dared to challenge a region's Elite Four! Sadly, he never became a Champion.
As time went on and the years began to pile on, travel became harder, and his beloved partners were growing tired. Eventually, he decided that it was time for a well-deserved rest. Booking a ticket, he traveled to the beautiful Alola region, and even though he'd gone to relax, the sight of the wonderful islands only further fueled his child-like desire to adventure once again. He eventually set out to complete the Trials, and upon his success, he even challenged the Elite Four once again. This time, he managed to win, and at last he stood face-to-face with a Champion. The battle was the greatest of his life, and though it ended in his loss, he knew he'd never forget it.
Nor would the Kahunas, it seemed. As he made to leave, they approached him and requested that he remain behind to teach in the Pokemon Academy, formerly the Trainer's School. The current Headmaster of the time was set to retire, and a suitable replacement had yet to be found. The Kahunas agreed that Marshall would make an excellent instructor, both for his experience and for how clearly he cared for people and Pokemon - namely his own. After some thought, he finally agreed, and the very next year, he took up the mantle of Headmaster.
It has now been five years since he came to Alola, and not once has he regretted his decision. Between the wonderful wilds of the islands and the joys of seeing his students rise from humble beginnings to trainers overflowing with potential, he knows to this day that he made the right decision.
Marshall's Team Partner Pokemon: Infernape (Male) Moveset and Ability: Blaze Close Combat Bulk Up Flamethrower Mach Punch Bio: Marshall's very first Pokemon and long-time partner. A very serious Pokemon with a warrior mindset, Infernape will not fight seriously against those it does not deem worthy. He and Marshall are inseparable.
Pokemon #2: Mawile (Female) Moveset and Ability: Hyper Cutter Play Rough Crunch Iron Defense Baton Pass Bio: Much more playful and demure than her frightening maw makes her appear, Mawile enjoys being among people and excitement. To this end, she'll often sneak out on her own, occasionally spotted among the students in the dorms or sneaking food from the cafeteria.
Pokemon #3: Luxray (Male) Moveset and Ability: Rivalry Scary Face Electric Terrain Thunder Fang Swagger Bio: One of Marshall's first Pokemon caught in his adventures, Luxray has always been competitive to a fault. He never turns down a challenge and constantly works to prove he's the strongest. Luxray and Infernape share a long-standing rivalry.
Pokemon #4: Tsareena (Female) Moveset and Ability: Queenly Majesty Trop Kick High Jump Kick Aromatherapy Captivate Bio: One of the Pokemon to join Marshall after he began his Alolan adventures, Tsareena believes herself to be the undisputed queen of the Academy. While she does care for those around her, she does so from a very clear position of self-proclaimed superiority. A very sore loser.
"Alola! I'm Kanoa! Last name, Makamae. It's a pleasure to meet you!"
-AGE-
"I'm twelve years old!"
-GENDER-
"Wha--?! Something weird about girls liking bugs, for you to ask that?!"
-REGION OF ORIGIN-
"Born and raised in Alola, that's me!"
-ROLE-
"I'm a recent student addition to the academy!"
-PERSONALITY-
"I'm the adventurous sort! I like getting into the mix, exploring the wild, and encountering new things! While I'm not fearless, I'm pretty brave. Especially if someone is in trouble that I can help; I'd never leave anyone behind! While I'm maybe not leader material, I will speak my mind and offer an opinion on a situation for the sake of being beneficial instead of a nuisance. Generally, I dislike real conflict between people and steer to try and keep everyone from fighting if a situation needs to be defused. Though. I have a bit of a temper too, when insulted...
While I have my adventurous side, I also don't mind staying at home or in school. I'm pretty booksmart and I like to show it; Not disrespecting my teachers, instead trying to impress them to aid in finding my own personal success. Instead of reckless action I tend to think things through instead of running in without a plan; This goes both for general life and battling.
Speaking of battling... I like it! I'm competitive, though I dislike the idea of my Pokemon getting terribly injured. Their pain raises insecurities in me, but I try to understand their limits and teach them my own. While losing can be fun and a learning experience, nothing tastes quite as good as a win to me. Despite what I said about losing, victory allows me to prove myself and move forward. I want to be the best I can be, to impress those around me, and to satisfy myself.
I have fears, too. Big Pokemon can be really scary in the wild, and I don't want to be considered a failure in any regard. The last thing I want to do is let someone down, and when it happens, it really bothers me.
I have a few problems here and there with people. I don't like people who mistreat their Pokemon, for an obvious one. If you bully others you aren't worth my time; Except to chew you out for being so horrible to other people! It gets on my nerves really bad, along with big-egos and people who tease me just to be mean. Sometimes when my insecurities are picked at, I feel the need to go and justify it immediately even if it makes me act out of line so I can prove a point. When angry or worried I mumble, ramble, and generally find myself unable to stop talking to a potentially annoying degree.
Generally, I'm friendly if not a little wary, kind of like a bug. I attempt to keep polite and when I see it possible, I like to provide small trivia or facts in my conversations. The more I stress, the faster I talk. I'm also tired a lot of the time, just from studying late or going out to do my own little adventures; So coffee is essentially my fuel source and happiness aside from friends and family."
-HISTORY-
"I grew up in Paniola Town on Akala Island! My mom and papa are ranchers; I spent plenty of days helping my papa work on the ranch, like milking Miltanks or shaving the Mareep! But my interests were never really in all of that: Instead, I was interested in running around and finding bugs hiding in corners of the ranch! I found my buddy Mele in the trees close to my home; Must've creeped from Lush Jungle or something.
He fell out of a tree and startled me! But he seemed hurt, so I brought him home. He pricked me a few times, but papa fixed me up and then we helped Mele get better. Eventually he started to not be so prickly; And we ended up as great friends! My papa gave me a Pokeball and let me try to catch him; And it went over well! While I wasn't a full-trainer, I was getting there; And I wanted to continue on the path of an adventurer rather than being a farm girl!
I occasionally went out with some of the older boys to explore outside of town; Papa even bought a few Pokeballs for me so I could maybe try to catch more Pokemon. Over my little trips me and Mele managed to catch a Dewpider and a Joltik; Named Kaleho and Kaipo respectively. I had my own little band of buggy friends, and while some of the boys made fun of me for not varying my types, it wasn't a concern of mine: They were my friends! I wouldn't want to chose them just over convenience, I remember something I saw on TV; It was a quote from an Elite 4 member of another region...
Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites.
Well, my bugs were my favorites! I wouldn't abandon them; And I wanted to find more bug friends, too! And become a strong trainer with them to prove those boys that friendship was more important than careful selection! I asked my papa to let me enroll at the Pokemon Academy so I could learn to be a real trainer. He was reluctant at first, but eventually, he let me enroll. Now I'm excitedly heading towards beginning my classes; And I can't wait to see what kind of people and Pokemon I meet!"
PARTNER POKEMON -MELE / FERROSEED-
Male Iron Barbs Pin Missile, Gyro Ball, Self-Destruct, Ingrain "Mele is a bit rough around the edges but he's really sweet once you befriend him. He was my first Pokemon, and he's my most trusted friend. He has this bad habit of using the move 'Self-Destruct', though. And it worries me, because I don't like him getting hurt!"
-KALEHO / DEWPIDER-
Male Water Bubble Infestation, Bug Bite, Bubblebeam, Spider Web "Kaleho was my first ever catch with my partner: It was a rough battle, but we came out on top and captured him! He's a bit jumpy, but generally he's a reliable addition to my team. Occasionally he foams bubbles when he's happy."
-KAIPO / JOLTIK-
Female Compound Eyes Electro Ball, Thunder Wave, Electroweb, Signal Beam "Kaipo was the second catch of my short training career; And she's rowdy! She zapped me and Mele more than I'd like to admit, but eventually she gave out and I got a capture! She's a bit stubborn with me, but she's by far the bravest Pokemon on my team! She'll rush in even against a bigger opponent, and i know I can rely on her!"
Gender: Male | Age: 29 Region of Origin: Kalos Role: Professor of Arts and Music
Personality: Eric comes off as what one could call a "princely" type. He is extremely polite, chivalrous, and gentle. He is good at singing and dancing, particularly the waltz, and he has at least some talent at sketching. Oh, and he's very handsome too. All of this he practiced over and over as a professional coordinator, and even though he is no longer on the stage he still retains his manners in daily life. He is a calm, understanding person that prefers to sort things out with words rather than battles, and it takes quite a lot to make him raise his voice in anger. His friendly personality and his tendency to genuinely listen to others, even taking children seriously, makes him quite popular with female students and staff - and of course, some males too. When learning something new for the first time, he tends to fall back on corny jokes - a trait he developed while teaching as it made the students groan and giggle. His first time learning Hula was a particularly memorable experience. Being a trained actor, it's extremely hard to get Eric flustered - but if one managed to succeed, they'd find his blush would cover his whole face and he'd become just a little uncharacteristically clumsy.
Bio:
Kalos - a region of beautiful landscapes, culture, and people - was a very nice place for children to grow up. For Eric this held true. He had a very calm childhood growing up in Aquacorde Town with his parents and younger sister, Natalie. However, as his friends and neighbors got older, growing more and more excited at the prospect of beginning their own Pokémon journeys, Eric couldn't share their enthusiasm. Like many other regions, in Kalos Pokémon were a part of daily life. You saw them every day in person and on television. Most appliances, products, and even food had the faces of cute Pokémon mascots slapped onto them. By the time Eric was old enough to meet with the region's professor and go off on his own, he was kind of... bored of Pokémon.
Instead, what Eric really liked were the trainers behind their Pokémon. Powerful Pokémon trainers were trendsetters, celebrities, politicians and all around superstars. They were award-winning athletes that ran beside monsters. They were also accomplished actors and performers, commanding the stage as popular coordinators. It were the coordinators that Eric took special interest in most of all, and instead of setting out on a journey to become a Pokémon trainer, he set his sights on the stage. He worked hard on his appearance, wardrobe, manners, and stage presence. Eventually he became a very talented coordinator, but there was one problem - he didn't have any Pokémon. Now a few years older than ten, Eric still hadn't captured a single Pokémon. Although he didn't hate them, he just hadn't felt attached to any. He recognized that the creatures were strong and magical in their own ways, but he still didn't feel anything special about them. In order not to squander his talent, a sponsor Eric had picked up let the young man "rent" Pokémon for performances. Pairing Eric, the coordinator prodigy, with trained stage Pokémon turned out to be a good move - Eric's performances won multiple ribbons and awards, got raving good reviews, and he became one of the most popular coordinators in Kalos. With his new found fame, Eric traveled overseas to Hoenn and Unova, quickly becoming a sensation.
It was when Eric made a visit to Alola to put on a small performance for fans in the region did his perception of Pokémon begin to change. Alola was unlike any of the regions he had visited before. The people and Pokémon in Alola worked and lived together in a way they didn't in other regions. Even the wild Pokémon in the area seemed to have their niche in society, and most of all the Pokémon of Alola looked happy and free. From being showered with Comfey upon his arrival to watching a pair of Litten play together as he departed, Eric very slowly began to realize exactly why Pokémon were so captivating the world over.
Returning to Kalos after his tour, Eric began keeping a closer eye on all the Pokémon he came across. They were beautiful in their own ways, unlike the ones in Alola but not all that different either. Eric's position on Pokémon wouldn't change completely until he met his future partner Pokémon - Andie, a Brionne. They met during a charity event held at an aquarium. Long after the cameras, diners, and event hosts left, Eric remained in front of her glass tank. He was mesmerized by her beautiful underwater dance, and she too was very happy to have an audience that truly appreciated her. It was the first time Eric had ever felt Yes, I want to preform with this Pokémon.
The coordinator paid a hefty sum to buy Andie from the aquarium. Together, they went on to win many more contests, all the while Eric promised to show the Brionne her home region of Alola, where she'd been taken from as a newborn Popplio. A few years down the road and with an extra friend in tow, Eric returned to Alola. As Andie swam in the region's warm waters, further and further out to sea, Eric was suddenly struck with a heartbreaking thought: what if she didn't come back? This was the moment that Eric truly understood those feelings his childhood friends had, and that nearly all people in the world shared. Life was better lived with Pokémon. Of course, Andie did come back, and as she leapt out of the sea into Eric's arms she evolved into a Primarina, toppling them both over. They laughed together and Eric decided there to retire from his busy, celebrity life of coordinating to try and help people discover what they loved about Pokémon sooner than he did.
It's been two years since Eric signed on with the Pokémon Academy as an instructor. He still isn't much of a battler, instead he teaches students about coordinators and the arts in general. He also helps the shier students with public speaking. He doesn't hide the fact that he used to be pretty famous overseas, but he doesn't go out of his way to bring it up either - besides, even the most famous coordinator would never be as well-known as the most famous Pokémon trainer. Still, he sends souvenirs, photos and autographs back to his sister in Kalos for fans in want of them. He still has a few fans here in Alola, but so far there haven't been any issues. Eric loves his new job and is looking forward to many more years at the Academy.
Pokémon
Coming from a background as a coordinator, Eric's team isn't very battle-focused at all. In fact, some of the Pokémon on his team haven't battled even once before. Despite that, Eric and his Pokémon have a close bond formed through mutual understanding and respect. All of Eric's team assist in his work in some way, whether it be during classes, cleaning around the Academy, or helping to look after the younger children and Pokémon. Each Pokémon on Eric's team specializes in a specific "art" to help augment Eric's more general arts know how.
Andie ♀ The Primarina Nature: Bold Ability: Liquid Voice Moves: Round, Sing, Sparkling Aria, Dazzling Gleam Bio: Andie has utterly adored Eric since they met. They have such a strong friendship that it's a popular school rumor that they can communicate telepathically. Although Eric's attention is all she really needs, Andie does like being pampered by others. She is well looked after and a stunning specimen of a Primarina - and Andie knows and flaunts this when she's in a playful mood. Her beautiful voice is the envy of many Pokémon - and some people!
Ludwig ♂ The Kricketune Nature: Jolly Ability: Swarm Moves: Round, X-Scissor, Bug Buzz, Sing Bio: The musical-expert of the team. He has an excellent ear and can replicate almost any tune after hearing it only once. Ludwig is quite big for his species, about a foot taller than most and very well fed. He is a bit if a gourmet and younger Academy students he befriends need to be discouraged from becoming picky eaters like him. Eric met him after adopting Andie but before leaving Kalos, encountering the Pokémon playing a melancholy tune alone one night. After several nights of the same sad song being played, Eric figured the Bug-type was lonely and took him in.
Franklin ♂ The Smeargle Nature: Serious Ability: Own Tempo Moves: Sketch Bio: The fine art-expert of the team. Franklin takes his work very seriously and spends most of his time at the Academy meticulously fixing up classrooms or cleaning up after one of his or his students "art sessions." The after school art club's "art sessions" consist of about 20% still life studies and 80% flinging chalk, inks and paints around the room and hoping more of it ends on the canvas than each other. Franklin enjoys being taken seriously and often acts as Eric's teaching assistant even when the lesson is focusing on music or dance. If he is ignored for too long he has a tendency to get temperamental. He and Eric actually met at the Academy - Franklin being a wild Pokémon that was tolerated on campus. After bonding, Franklin consented to becoming part of the instructor's team.
Mai'a ♀ The Oricorio Nature: Relaxed Ability: Dancer Moves: Revelation Dance, Feather Dance, Teeter Dance, Roost Bio: The dance-expert of the team. Mai'a loves napping, lounging and sunbathing. She never helps out with chores unless asked a few times. Although she might seem lazy to those that don't know her, she loves exercising and, of course, dancing. When she isn't asleep, she can usually be found running around with students in the gym or on the track field. Although skilled in many forms of dance, she prefers the Hula. It also happens that her favorite flower nectar is the pink variety. She and Eric met during a class field trip when the students kept feeding wild Pokémon to get them to follow the group. Mai'a was one of those Pokémon and couldn't be scared off by the instructor. When Mai'a followed the group all the way back to the Academy, fell asleep in the classroom, and didn't leave the next day, it was clear she wasn't going anywhere.
Name: Fang Shi Age: 15 Region of Origin: Johto Role: Student
Personality: Fang Shi is a gentle and fragile soul. She is easy to upset and is quite the scaredy-cat. She would much rather sulk about in a dimly lit room than risk the dangers of the open grass. However due to the fact she is an easy to rile up scaredy cat, Fang Shi can and will fight back with the determination of a corned animal until escape or victory arrives. She truly wishes to be a Sage like her father and his father before him and so on. As such Fang tries to keep a graceful composure about her to prop up the image that she can be a stoic Sage. Fang Shi can get engrossed in several hobbies, such as practicing rhythmic movements, poetry and prefers to do so than deal with others. However if a social situation is unavoidable she will try to keep things short and simple on her part while trying to weasel her way out of it.
Bio: Fang Shi was born in Violet City to one of the many Sages of Sprout Tower. Here Fang Shi was secluded from much of the city as she was taught the importance of balance, both the literal meaning due to tower shaking and from a more metaphorical point of living in harmony. She took well to these lessons, getting a glimpse of the importance and significance of the world, and felt that she would be able to continue the life of a Sage.
And that is when she was jumped by a Rattata. While she managed to catch it before it did damage to her, the event traumatized her. Namely she didn’t wish to go towards the door or enter the city proper. Fang devoted herself further into her studies and began to develop a greater bond with the Ratatta. Her father knew she needed some Bellsprout to truly study like they did and tried to gently coax her out of the tower. The Shi daughter did not budge. Eventually she had to be dragged out, while kicking and screaming by her father, outside not only the tower but to the road outside the city so she could obtain new companions.
She did and at first her father thought she might have gained some courage truly needed to thrive. Fang did not. Her father was concerned with how he would keep her daughter from becoming a premature hermit, but he found his answer. Visiting the local academy of Violet City he learned of a new academy in Alola accepting all students and decided that he needed to push her there. Again there was much kicking and screaming but Fang Shi was well on her way to Alola’s Pokémon Academy.
Partner Pokemon: Rattata (Male) Moveset: Crunch Tail Whip Focus Energy Quick Attack Ability: Guts Bio: Rattata is a hot-blooded and mangy little critter. It views himself as the ultimate hero and only shows deferment to Fang. Anything else is secondary and unworthy of Fang. It is restless and enjoys biting things.
Pokemon #2: Bellsprout (Female) Moveset: Vine Whip Poison Powder Sleep Powder Stun Spore Ability: Chlorophyll Bio: Bellsprout is a cowardly creature which values its own fibers above all else. It is very skittish and prone to surrendering and begging unless it has been backed into a corner. It enjoys rummaging around in soil.
Pokemon #3: Bellsprout (Female) Moveset: Vine Whip Growth Acid Poison Powder Ability: Chlorophyll Bio: Bellsprout is a lazy and mellow plant. It prefers to stand still and lay about as opposed to moving around. It enjoys basking under the sunlight.
