For those who aren't on the discord yet, here are some answers to questions that
@RabidPorcupine answered.
"What kind of countries do we have right now?"
Porc: Basically, it takes place in your standard large fantasy continent. There are two big empires taking up a large chunk of the east coast, Entei Bahara to the south, with a lot of desert land, and Xin Lu, which is fantasy china. The northern area of Xin Lu and a little ways above is called Hiyuki, lotsa taiga's and tundra's and stuff, and the homeland of the Oni. To the west of the two empires, towards the middle of the continent, there is essentially a fragmented mess of smaller nations, where you can always expect at least a few of them to be at war or trying to ally with each other. These are called the Middle Kingdoms, and because there are so many of them, you can essentially make one up for your character to have come from if you'd like. They're human majority, but you can easily justify other races coming from there. There are also other desert nations to the south of the Middle Kingdoms, which I'll also say is up for grabs. And then west of the Middle Kingdoms is what I'm placing under the temporary name of the Spiritwild, which is essentially untamed, and possibly magically charged wilderness. Rolling plains, great forests, and way more dangerous wildlife. Spirits and the like can slip through into the physical world through it, and the same may be true in the opposite direction. There are still a few colonies scattered throughout the wilds though, because humans are crazy and stupid like that. Most Orc tribes also tend to live in the highlands towards the north of the wilds...and the wilds may or may not be the result of some kind of enormous magical disaster wiping out an ancient empire, who knows?
"How do contracted fae/fairies work?"
Porc: Well, from what I'm thinking, fae and their kind would fall more under the category of Spirits than playable races. That being said, forming contracts with spirits to have them become your familiars isn't especially rare in this world, so you could probably still play as a fairy by giving your character one as a familiar.
"How large are they?"
Porc: The fairies are pretty crazy wacky, and come in all shapes and sizes. You could have one of any size as your familiar.
"Are familiars totally bound by their contracts?"
Porc: Not totally- they have some measure of independence; They can think for themselves and make their own decisions, and they still have all their own emotions and stuff, but once they form the contract, but they feed off mana from the summoner's soul, otherwise they'd fade away in the real world. So it's in their best interests to follow the summoners commands, in case they decide to nullify the contract. Most summoner and familiar pairs tend to have a dynamic closer to a team and partnership than master servant anyway.
"Are there animal gods/greater spirits that live out there?"
Porc: There are. Three of them are even worshiped by the continents largest religion, The Church of the Three Kings. They're Ziz, King of the Sky, Behemoth, King of the Earth, and Leviathan, King of the Sea. There are others too of varying levels, but those are the big three.
"Is there a specific setting that the monsters are going to be from?"
Porc: Not particularly. Just whatever fantasy/mythological world I can think of. With a little bit of badly remembered biology knowledge to make them seem a little more realistic. And at the moment, I'm not entirely settled on what constitutes being considered a monster or not. At the moment, it's kind of vague at just 'a species that poses significant threat to those who encounter it'. Honestly though, if I go with that one, even things like hippos and elephants would be considered monsters in this world.
