To me it feels like the fact there was 'failures' gives a sense of hope in them is her basic logic of him saying that.

She's also straight-up not scared of anything(most things) and likes to test people's buttons.

I sort of see how someone might that line as him saying 'finally we succeed.' But that wasn't my intention so I need to change something.

However that doesn't help me write him as cocky or arrogant. Which is what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to get across the point that it doesn't matter if they die.
