There was a 'before', and there was a 'now', yet the Entity had experienced no beginning. There was once a time when it had not existed, but that time had passed. The origin was irrelevant, and this Entity had no desire to think of such meaningless things. The Entity was, and that was all it needed to know.

The Entity had thought, but its mind was bound to nothing. It had emotion, or it would, in time. It had awareness of every kind, but it was not omniscient, because the Entity held a position, a presence. It could be here, or it could be there, and wherever it held its presence, it could observe its environment for kilometres around- But it could not be here and there. The Entity could move, if it wished to do so. Right now, however, the Entity did not wish to move at all.

There was light blazing towards the planet from a great sphere far away. The light twisted its way through a blanket of gas, and the Entity could observe that twist as a colour- First blue, then a magnificent orange, and then the sphere was out of sight and the blanket became dark, allowing all the blazing spheres that were far away to take their turn at illuminating the planet. One of them was very close, so close that it appeared to be the same size as the sphere this planet orbited, but its light was only a reflection of the sphere which some might call a Sun. Then the planet turned and the blanket of the Atmosphere was blue again, and the burning light came back, falling upon a vast liquid surface, penetrating the shallows wherein the Entity held its restful, ethereal presence.

The Entity had seen-without-eyes the light for some time now, but its attention was focused on something small, something resting on a bed of soaked, rocky mineral powder, just under the surface of the liquid Ocean. There were living things in the liquid, the Water, growing things by the million- So many that they tinted the ocean blue and green. They absorbed the burning light and powered themselves with it, and that was puzzling, but they did not interest the Entity. The growing units that held him rapt were many, many times larger, and more complicated. They were cells with many parts within themselves. They could not sustain themselves with the light from the sun, so they absorbed the little growing organisms that drifted and sank down around them. They called to the Entity, for it felt potential within them... But it did not know how they would become great, or when. So the Entity threw off their subtle spell, and left them.

No liquid, nor solid, nor gas could impede the Entity. It could move wherever it wanted to move, seeing all it passed by- and seeing much, for the Entity moved with great speed. It could fly through the Air as high as it wished, and it could dive through the Water to any depth. It could soar through the lightless Earth and Rock and taste their minerals. Mostly the Entity remained near the surface, circling every stone, every outcrop and mountain and fiery volcano. It found more living things, growing cells in their billions, but they were all simple and small, and none carried the same feeling of potential as the complex cells the Entity had left behind. And leaving behind was what the Entity disliked. It didn't want to move but to stay- To stay everywhere, to fill everything, to spread its presence over the entire planet, enclose it and never let it go.

The Entity flew, and many cycles of colour passed over the air. In time the Entity grew tired of the surface. It was magnificent, but it was barren. The rocks sat in their places until they crumbled, and the mountains were worn down by the wind. New rock flowed from volcanoes and new mountains were growing, but the Entity came to miss the complexity that the cells- its cells- had given to their shallow waters. So the Entity began to think, and within it a desire grew, a desire to change what it saw. Make it beautiful and complex and filled, every part of it, so that no place was ever empty of complexity, so that every place had a presence of life. Desire matured into a single, passionate Intent. With Intent came Power.

The complex cells had survived, but not changed. They lived, but they were inert. The Entity returned to them over stone and dust and water, drawn to them as if it had never left. As it flew it felt its desire congealing into energy, almost tangible energy, and the Entity immersed the cells in its power, becoming them, marking them as its own. It felt fitting... Perfect. The Entity could read the cells, now, read the single code that each one carried within it to be passed on to every new generation... And tweak it.

The Entity made mistakes, at first. Many cells died before the surviving code overcame its influence. It could make them form new strings of atoms, could make them do whatever it desired... If it was careful. But the Entity was careful, and determined. Days passed in their cycle of colour, and the sun and moon made cycles of their own, and the Entity learned how to craft its little colony. When it was ready, it introduced a simple new code into its adopted family, and this code held no mistakes. The cells began to produce chains of atoms, chains which bound each other together. Not in random clumps, for each cell clung to its brothers in the same perfect pattern that spread over the shallow sand. From a film to a layer to a small, soft mass went the colony; A mass that held a single, flat, branching pattern at every scale of its surface, that absorbed every simple cell that drifted onto it and spread its energy outwards to grow further.

Yes. It is good. The Entity had approved its first creation, and now that it had begun, it never wanted to stop. The task would take time, but the Entity would learn and grow in power and adapt itself, embracing every single nook and cranny of the planet with life, and holding presence there. It shall be done. The Entity was alone on this planet, and it would take the world as its own, becoming an enveloping, ruling force. This it accepted as its one and only Purpose.

From a nameless, aimless being, the Enclosing One emerged.

The Chaos One knew not how he was born, nor did he care. He seen a vast, empty world below and he decided that this world stall be his kingdom of chaost. This entity had one simple objective, to entertain himself however he so wished. He seen there was creatures on the surface, and decided that they shall be his minstrels of madness. The Chaos One pondered what he wanted to do with his newly gained property and contemplated.

Then he got an idea, he would scramble there DNA into something happened! The idea was exciting. He toyed with their DNA, causing many die and didn't really help or hinder those who survived. Breaking down their genes and scrambling and trying to find out what made it tick was fun. He made completely random codes that seemed to have little to no purpose, but it was cool they was there. Maybe they would useful later, or maybe not.

He made his amoebas highly aggressive. The Chaos One noticed that there was other creatures on this planet, and they was no under his sphere. He was not bothered by this. What fun would his games be if there was not another player? It was awe-inspiring to think there might be another player in his game of madness, or more, or maybe some higher comsic force but as he thought deeper into this, he got bored and went back to messing with the amoeba DNA.

Observing for an immeasurable amount of time, the Entity was greatly intrigued by this one animate thing. It did things, reacted to those around it, and fascinated the Entity. Then the unthinkable... It was killed by a different thing, unable to save itself. It... Died, and was gone forever. This other 'cell' was evil, a threat to This One's thirst for knowledge, and safety. This One found this unacceptable, and would not allow it to happen again. With all it's power, it manifested new codes, and adapted the ones that it could, modifying them and hoping many were not failures.

Eventually, after much trial and error, This One found the solution: It would hide from The Evil, and find paradise in which the other cells would not dare to follow. With this success, This One's subjects were drawn to the depths, living in absolute darkness, where not even the Tiny Things could live. The Subjects lived off the heat of the molten rock, occasionally drifting upwards in times of stress, and were safe. For now.

What to call it? Not necessarily a "birth" by any means, but certainly not a death. What was the appropriate word The Amorphous Jowls sought to describe how it had come into being? Hard to say. It just sort of came to be. And then it explored. Another thing it couldn't put a finger on (so to speak) was how long it had explored. Long enough to find the deep seas of the world, and the tiny creatures that lived within them. And with that discovery, The Amorphous Jowls had an idea. A clever, clever idea. Can I take these tiny defenseless creatures, and turn them into beasts that no life form can tame? Can I make them powerful enough to defeat the very Entity who would play the hand that would make them into these unstoppable monsters? That would be a sight to see. Its own creations defeat it, and maybe even erase it.

What wasn't to look forward to? The Amorphous Jowls spent more time still trying to find the tiny single-celled organisms that would hopefully become the instruments of his self-destruction some time, until it picked out one cell type in particular. In this water, there were cells who took in the sunlight from above, and cells who ate those sun-living cells. The Amorphous Jowls took a preference for the latter; the cells who ate other cells. These would be the ones it would first try to turn into the monsters that would eventually become those who slew him. And it was as such that The Amorphous Jowls gifted these cell-eating cells of his choosing with stronger eating power, so that they could even eat the cell-eating cells. Hardly a gift that could prove its own undoing, but it was a start.

The Parasite viewed the planet it was on with extreme curiosity. It had no idea how it had gotten there, or even how it had came to exist. The only thing it knew was that it had a purpose, a goal, an objective: to create a creature that could siphon the life from any it came in contact with. Not fighting or foraging for a living, but instead stealing from those who did. However, looking around, it realized that there was nothing large enough to have much life to siphon. With some disappointment it decided instead to develop a nearby group of amoebas into a colony, one able to share nutrients. Taking nutrients and, for now, giving them.

He was a restless One, travelling the globe that it inhabited, if that was what you could call his relationship to it. Bound to an object that seemed to be manifested on another plane of existence. Somehow they were intertwined. There was something for him here. He called it Destiny. Travelling, he could. Observing, he was. But powerless, he felt. His search was for a way to influence this world. With the tension between desire and reality, grew ambition, grew power.

He experimented with everything he laid his etheral eyes upon. Mountains? Higher! Oceans? Deeper! But nothing he could change. Nothing he could touch. Until..
There was something he had seen many times before, but that had never really gotten his attention, because it was so small, so silent.
Incredibly small and complex combinations of matter. That moved, that had to interact with their direct environment to sustain their form. Ever changing, was their only option to stay the same. It was fascinating. The gracefulness of this 'beings' was in it's complexity. In which it was far superior to any heaven or mountain or ocean. Even in this smallest form. More interesting was even, it's potential. Studying the beings intensely, he found the immense potential, hidden within it in the strings that defined the form of the being. 'I wonder what would happen if I changed the order of the molecules on this string....I wonder if I could..make it... better.'

With that single thought, his power trough his ambition was released, and he could reach the material world. He could touch it.
And it reacted.

The Artist had found his Medium.

For many suns and moons, the Ambitious One experimented with his new medium. Changing and often destroying his subjects in the proces. Luckily there were many. He studied and learned until he knew, which action, would cause what reaction. But with every organism being dependent on it's surroundings, there was no absolute way of telling what the ultimate result would be. He liked it that way. It made his desire grow. it was the ultimate challenge. It was his destiny.

Many organisms changed around him, even without his touch. There was food aplenty to sustain the organisms. But the danger came from organisms that preyed upon others.. These inspired him, this was what he wanted to create as well. But he was ambitious enough to be patient. He altered the DNA in a way that, the organisms would grow a sting that could protrude the membranes of other cells. This would both ensure the safety of his organisms against predators as well as make a fine meal out of them by ripping open their membranes and feeding on their organelles. Letting the prey come to you, was a fine strategy.

Vast emptiness, was all it saw. Emptiness with potential to be filled and manipulated at the entity's will, yet its will would not comply in the way it wished. There were boundaries to its power, though it paid no heed to these limitations for all that is is all that can be. The intangible being spent a portion of time, though time is of irrelevance in eternity, drifting from bodies of water to patches of barren earth, mucking about in the soil or swaying about in the waves. For all time until now, which could have been an eternity, the entity had harboured no urge to do anything else; it was content. But one day, something changed. While settled into a warm water current deep beneath the ocean's surface, the entity happened, by chance to pass through a colony of unicellular organisms which it had never before happened upon. The entity spent time observing the insignificant creatures and quickly became intrigued and thoughts and ideas began to form in its vast mind. Though the entity did not speak, for the spoken word was of no use, not did it think or feel in a language, it came upon a decision; the entity would take these pathetic organisms and make them its own. The possibilities were endless, so long as there was time. And as all know, there is always time, and there always was, and there always shall be.

The entity grasped the thought of perfecting these organisms, it knew they were primitive, unlike itself, and it knew they had a purpose, for all things must, but it wanted to take the simple specimens to a different level of being, it wanted to give them purpose and give them the necessary traits to ensure they became perfect at their purpose. When it would reach perfection, there would be another level to achieve, and the idea of eternity in the process greatly pleased the entity, though it felt no pleasure at all. On that day, unknown by date or time, the entity took upon a title of The Unmitigated One, for it would be, it would be absolute in its endless strive for perfection in the precious colony chance had lain out before it.

Where to start.

The Unmitigated one knew energy was crucial in all things, and it understood that energy must be attained. For perfection, the One understood that there must be a perfect energy source. And so it gave the single celled organisms the power of the sun; the perfect, pure energy source. It manipulated the chromatin within the smallest parts of the organisms and urged it forward on a path to harness the energy and become perfectly self sustained organisms. It knew no pleasure, but pleased, it was, once again.

The world turned, the orb of light fell, and another rose, a satellite. Unseen form, perceived while nothing noted its presence. The flowing substance, liquid, water, covered much of the world it observed. The air was thick with moisture and chemical mixtures, gaseous and to something less aware, invisible. The world's surface seemed inert to the entity, without activity, but it had no way to truly understand this state of being.

Stillness, lack of motion. These concepts did not fit what it considered this to be.

Then, moving closer to the vast water, the being entered it, unimpeded or affected by the liquid, and explored with unfeeling catharsis.

It found what it sought, in concept.

Life.

Observing for a long while, the Matrices analyzed this...life and watched it move and interact with its surroundings, being effected by them and effecting them in turn. Reaching out with its formless presence it influenced the tiny creatures and found that unlike all else, its touch had an effect. The code within the tiny...organisms, reacted and one of the things became sick and quickly perished. A mutation caused that did not properly sync with the rest of its form.

Intrigued by this, the Matrices drifted over the small amorphous things and again made its presence touch that of the things. It touched life and watched as its influence caused something most beautiful: Change.

While it had seen movement in the heavens by the two celestial orbs, the formless being had never seen much of this thing. Change was foreign to it, and yet now it was becoming a part of it. With each alteration it made, the creatures, cells, were modified and change occurred. This, to the being, was beautiful, but it needed something...more. So, with great patience the being tinkered and eventually the amoebas gained a heightened defense against others not of their own kind. This, however, isolated them from one another. That would be the next change, but the Matrices would take its time, for haste created only waste and time was not a worry for the being.

Not at all.

The Enclosing One was growing as its colonies were growing, and that pleased it. With more power to immerse its subjects in, it could make changes at a slightly greater speed, and it could experiment more easily. It soon realised that it could created variety in its colonies by changing the pattern in which some of the cells linked together, making it more complex. It could make colonies with folds and ripples and fibres. It soon discovered that it was limited, however, in that it ran the risk of separating the codes too far, splitting them away and dividing its power with them. The Enclosing One did not feel like it had enough power to share between two groups of species, not this early, not while it still needed that power to learn and experiment. The new group with its muddled and separate code was bound in the Entity's immersion, and it held the Enclosing One like a lock, just as tightly as its primary species. With haste the Entity scrambled as much of the code as it could, destroying the new colony... Or most of it. The survivors had adapted, enough to separate further, but they had left its expanding bubble of energy, become like the amoebae when the Enclosing One first found them. ...No matter. My power is intact again. They do my Purpose no harm.

So the Enclosing One continued to enclose, for a time, and think. The little cells in the water that grew with the sun still puzzled the Entity. It liked that ability, to take energy first-hand, and it would look into it, in time. It viewed the dry, harsh surface of the almost-waterless Land, and concluded that growing from the sun would be its answer to holding presence there, too. But there was always movement, and in the waters too; The air pushed and pulled as wind, agitating the surface waters into waves. The colonies would need an anchor if they wanted to spread into less calm waters. And there was certainly a faster way to spread than simple outwards growth... There would need to be considerably more complexity in the enclosing growth if the Entity wanted to achieve this. All in time.

Soon enough something caused the Enclosing One to act, but not in the way it would have liked. Something was acting on its farther colonies. It approached, and observed something odd. Complex cells, like its own, but not under its power... But nor where they neutral like the amoebae the Entity had cast away. Interesting. But these newcomers were disruptive, large, and singular. As they moved they consumed not only the simple cells, but fed upon the Enclosing One's thin layer of growth. Some, it observed, were more inert, but they rent surrounding amoebae, predator and fractal alike, with a sharp solid structure before they consumed them. ...No. I do not like this. Pests. Anger flared in the Enclosing One, but these newcomers were not free and neutral for him to disrupt and destroy, even if it had power to spare, which it did not. Very well then!

Working comfortably, with more experience, the Enclosing One began to change the pattern of connection again, not in play or minor speciation but with purpose. The connections now allowed for double and triple layers of cells over the film of amoeba, but the outermost members were hard-programmed to become inert and densely connected wherever they could not complete the correct pattern- Where there was new growth, or damaged growth in the fractal. It solved the problem... Until, perhaps, the predators became larger. The Enclosing One had its doubts about that.

The Enclosing One considered what it had done, and the growth it had made. A fractal layer of amoeba may have spread quickly, but if the Enclosing One wished to make its coverings complex, it would have to abandon the process of linking that it was using. That patterned growth which followed the same rule at every scale did not allow for much structure or internal variation. No matter. I shall experiment further. Just more problems to be solved. This Entity could be patient, if it needed to be. It had much work to do.

The Chaos One began to grow bored with simply making random codes in the genetics of his species. That was until he realized that some of the codes he made produced poisons that killed most of his amoebas, but the ones that survived grew and became slightly poisonous themselves. The Chaos One was pleased with this discovery and found new drive to push forward. The idea of poisons intrigued him, and he wanted to make more.

Right now, the poison was really ineffective. It only had a slight chance to kill those who tried to eat the Chaos One's creation that couldn't do. He then realized that other complex creatures were poping out of no one where. He wasn't upset though. He thought he found someone who wanted to play with him, and this excited him greatly. He imaged them both constructing massive armies of ameoba and having them both armies killing each other and then starting again. This sounded really fun. He named his hypothetical playmate, Slandanat.

He thought to himself if Standanat amoebas wanted to eat his amoebas, he wouldn't get away scott-free. He had to make better creatures! And better poisons! He had to do many things to prepare for his and Standanat's game. So many things, and so much time. He know that this would be highly entertaining.

Ah, peace. At last, This Ones creations were thriving, in what the Evil Cells might consider a hell of sorts. This was It's dominion, uncontested and It's to control. So for a time, The Fire Feeders were left unaltered, as This One was happy to just watch and wonder at what It's creations were going to do next. This, however, proved to create an interesting problem. Those it left untouched began to behave out of It's control, and began to prey on those It tended after much time. While this was unsatisfactory, at least it was only This One's creations squabbling among themselves. This, situation, It thought, could be remedied..

With a greater understanding of The Code, it began to alter those who were still Fire Feeders, and resulted in many failures (much to It's dismay). But, after a time, The Fire Feeders developed a defense of sorts against these new Cells, which it called 'Forgotten': The Fire Feeders could, when threatened, secrete molecules that turn the surrounding water into a viscous slime, slowing down Evil Cells and allowing escape. This effect was not very reliable, as those determined enough could still move through the slime and get at the Fire Feeders, but it was a start.

It proved sufficient for a time, and actually greatly enhanced them. So, with new hope, This One's creations started to take on different forms, and were once again, safe.

The world was silent. Dead silent.

But dead silence, the Composer felt, was unfit for such a lively world.

On a cliff-side, a wave crashed rhythmically. This, the Composer realized, was the best it could get on such a quiet world. But that wasn't enough. Not nearly enough.

An incorporeal entity, the Composer was practically a newborn. It knew very little, and only knew two things for sure: its powers and its desire. It knew it could affect, in some way, the many microbes hiding beneath the water. And it knew what it wanted: aural stimulation of some kind. Deep in its mind, it could imagine great melodies, perhaps even symphonies, arising from the sea.

It knew this was outlandish at best, however, and focused on simply forcing an underwater colony of microbes into making some noise, any noise at all, to supplement the crash of the waves. It focused all its power on this, and time passed.

The Composer, still practically a newborn, didn't have a clue what was happening biologically yet. All it could tell was that, after a certain length of time, a new instrument suddenly appeared: the sound of faint bubbling.

Creation and transformation were of great splendour to observe. The One contorted the DNA, worked the very fabric of the cells' simple structures and waited for the tedious meiotic processes to run their course. It worked patiently, stepping in to perfect the crossing over in each cell's initial metaphase to ensure the appropriate genetic code was aligned for the miniscual organisms to evolve the necessary organelle needed for the wondrous process of what would one day be known as photosynthesis. Though, for the entity spoke no language, most certainly not english, it simply observed the process to be a perfect absorption of energy from the perfect source.

Yet an obstacle quickly presented itself to the colonization process instigated by the Unmitigated One, for despite the productivity of the photosynthesis, there was simply not enough energy to process; the colony was not thriving, for the sun's life giving rays were many miles away, up from the depths. Today, an individual may have been embarrassed at executing such a foolish mistake, but the entity knew not of judgement or of opinion, only movement and correction. And so it corrected itself, overjoyed with the possibility of improving on what was already before it. And so the Unmitigated One gathered what was left of the precious organisms and carried them up from the depths to the lighter waters, where they flourished and began to grow. The entity realized it had gone backwards in progress by allowing the colony to slowly perish in the depths, and took it upon itself to work harder to create the perfect producer of energy.

As the sun rose and set again and again, the organisms began to surprise the One, and this surprise was also surprising to the entity for it had never been surprised before. The unicellular organisms had thrived in their photosynthetic processes, as was predicted and expected, but they began to act out on their own accord and do things not assigned by the entity. They had begun to join at each other's sides, all in a ball, possibly joining forces to collect more sun with less effort and share their rewards. The One was pleased and settled into the waves to observe and to ponder, ponder about what this could be. An instinct? Perhaps.

Attack, aggression.

Turning its attention to the fringes of its creations, the Matrices noticed that some of the amoebas failed and were picked off by another species. For a short time the being watched this interaction, seeing how the interactions occurred and how the creatures would seem to effect his own creations.

His attention shifted once more to his creatures, creatures he was glad he had reinforced. For when some of the poisonous organisms attacked their piercing mechanisms tended not to work. However, some would pierce his amoebas, weakening them and slowly killing them in the process. Finding this unbeneficial to his goals, the entity locked onto the genetic code of the creatures that were his, and began modifications.

For awhile the population decreased as few physical modifications were made. Instead, different behaviors arose. Finding this intriguing and seeing colonies in other species that occupied the area, the Matrices decided to cause an intriguing change. This change took some time and so more died, but eventually, after a few brief reproductions, the creatures gained something new.

They became communal, living with and off one another symbiotically. Then, slowly, the being caused only those on the outer edges to form reinforced defenses. This would make several layers of defense. The creatures gained one other intriguing thing, small flagella-like tendrils that could exude from their bodies and intertwine to their brethren, forming a system with which they could communicate. No central control system was established so, at times, the creatures would pull their colony apart, usually letting in predators.

The Matrices could do nothing, it would instead wait and see how the creatures within defended themselves from foreign intruders.

That would be the next step, allowing his charges to develop some form of internal defense. In interest of watching their natural process of progression, the Matrices made tiny modifications to the genetics of two small colonies, allowing them to develop in different directions. The being was unsure of what this might result in, but it was surely intrigued by the possibilities.

Amidst the warm watery depths acting as a womb to the developing creatures, it woke up. Its presence extending itself as it roused and began taking notice of the world around it. Concepts and ideas flowed threw his mind like inklings of a fever dream as he surveyed the world. Barren as it was, he was not alone as in the waters there already a multitude of tiny creatures swimming around, each similar but different in form and function. He viewed his toys with great excitement as they already contained elements which would be built upon which would cut down on work time. Oh yes and what a wonderful thing it would be once his grand series of experiments come into fruition. Already he had selected the amoebas with the crude photosynthetic abilities he'd akin to a sculptor began to carve and sand away at the creatures.

Halting any further advancement of their organization from getting too complex he'd kept at just general association and began dumping his focus on rapidly developing the chloroplasts and specifically the type of pigmentation contained. Soon he'd unleash his new creations and then refine them even further. He watched with anticipation as how the little base creature soon became something beautiful. The constant growth and changes and increasing efficiency in thriving of the sun's ray was interesting but it was merely the first stepping block for what would be. Still he was impatient and wished the process would go by faster so he could get to the fun part.

It seems like Standanat was also a crafty one, his amoebas were far greater in numbers but this did not discourage the Chaos One. He seen this as a challenge, he needed to be more aggressive towards Standanat's creatures if he wanted a chance in this game.

He noticed that the stinging creatures seemed to be changing so that his creatures was less effective, this wouldn't do. He needed an upper hand in this game. Of course, more lethal potions were always a plus however he needed something more. He began to think, and then he come to a realization. In order for the other species to be poisoned, they need to die, but what if so that... they are more than one cell, so even if one cell is destroyed my minstrels of madness would be able to live on while the aggressor would die.

But that is too passive, he thought. Wait, he continued to ponder. He can to realization if he could make his cell bigger and more poisonous he could simply overpower Standant's creatures. This excited him, and he went to work immediately. Some poisons worked like a charm, other immediately killed the host. He was overjoyed by the excitement of his and Standanat's game.

Occasionally he tried to talk to Standanat, he never got a response but he just presumed that Standanat was more a silent and calculating type and just keep talking. He would say things such as "Good idea" and "Oh, that will come back to get you." There was no way to know that Standanat was able to hear him or if Standanat was even real, but.. The Chaos One was lonely, he needed Standanat to be real, so even if he couldn't prove it, his companions existence was a fact in his mind.

He then realized, he never named his amoeba. He decided to name them Barbars. That name was good as any, ,and he liked it .He keep saying it to himself and then decided he didn't liked it. He keep trying to pull names from his figurative hat: Dand, Kaneit, Ssannek, Atuna. Until, one name stuck, Naes. He thought to himself how they would be Naes, his Minstrels of Madness and he loved it.

He noticed how Standanat's amoebas were started to organize and he hated it. He started to make his naes more random and unpredictable. Order bored him, and he wasn't about to let it infect his little beast too. He noticed the naes were starting to become more organized, which confused him how just little creatures could make decisions on there on, but he saved him in time.

He also noticed that one of Standant's creature seemed to turn against him in the volcanic vents were naes couldn't reach. He noticed that he could insert his influence over them and realized if he could, he could get an upper hand on Standanat. This was one of his chances to be more aggressive against his rival He focused his energy and start to try to convert these rogue beast to his side

The predators seemed to leave the thin mats of growth mostly alone after the Enclosing One had given them their simple protection. Where they did find a way to feed, they tended to behave more aggressively, do more harm with poisons... But the coverings seemed to be working fairly well, for the moment. I will remember this. The Enclosing One had come to a firm conclusion that it would use these mats of cells were only a step on its path, that it would use to learn and move forward to better species to cover the planet with. The new power that was coming to it was no longer being immediately immersed into the fractals, but left within the Entity's own mind for use with another species. Now... What else can I hold within myself? Time for some exploration.

The Enclosing One flew away again from its increasingly widespread, if patchy and thin, blankets of amoebae, examining what it found. There were not only predatory amoebae, but several kinds of them in apparent conflict, the chaos of which the Entity found rather amusing, and, in a way, pitiful. There were other amoeba species that clumped together in a similar way to its own colonies, but these growths were more singular than the fractals, and (a little unsettlingly) they drifted freely around the surface. Almost spherical. That structure was fascinating to the Enclosing One, and it wished it could adopt them as well... Alas, it seemed that only the descendants of the colony it had first surrounded were open to the Entity's power. There could still be copying, of course, but not yet. Other amoeba had also grouped together, but these were not as closely bound, or as organised, as the tiny spheres. Both they and the crude spherical structures seemed to collect some of their power from the sun, like the simple algae that had puzzled and pleased the Enclosing One (although oddly, the looser colonies were exhaling a comparatively large amount of gas). This change, too, it would attempt to emulate.

On its return journey the Enclosing One found one other colony, and this one, too, pleased and fascinated it, for this colony had found an energy source in the heat of the cracks in the deepest depths, and they were thriving. Perhaps even that would be copied eventually... There could be no empty spaces. Or maybe this species will cover up the depths itself and I shall have no need. That, too was amusing, but hopeful. The Enclosing One had no objection to variety in its vision of the planet, even if that variety came from the many aimless species it had found. It appeared that only a few kinds of life could be adopted, and the Enclosing One doubted it could fulfil every task.

Upon returning, the Entity's available power had grown further, and it searched until it found what it had borne in mind for its new species- The rogue species it had cast away. It still grew, bearing the same growing adaptation the Entity had left it with, although it had changed of its own accord to dwell somewhat deeper waters. That way it faced no competition from its more favoured brother. Intriguing. Immersing the species in itself again, the Enclosing One planned to take this species and use it to mimic what it had observed. Make something more complex. With time, of course.

As for its main experiment, there was something the Enclosing One wished to change. Altering the pattern of death and regeneration in damaged portions of the fractal colony, the joins between cells now allowed for a more specific reaction where there was damage in certain parts of the arrangement. It was uncommon, but with the amount of predators and natural damage occuring, it would happen often enough that the dense, dead growth would surround and separate a collection of the living amoeba before the rest of the colony regenerated. The separated, covered clump of cells would be free to drift on the current... Until it landed on an empty patch of shallows and attempted to grow in the same arrangement again. It felt like a primitive change, considering how many clumps failed to separate or form on the damaged edges, and how few successfully made it to an appropriate location, but at the same time, the thought of spreading in this way was glorious. This was certainly an adaptation which the Enclosing One would retain and recreate later. Excellent.

Such curious things. They float aimlessly, struggle to continue their existence, then die, withering up and forgotten by their brethren. Perhaps This One would continue to watch them forever, for it believed them to be invincible. Triumphant, where others fall. There was the issue of the Forgotten, but they seemed to be dwindling, and were finding it difficult to get at it's precious Fire Feeders through the matted slime it secreted. The depths were calm, and that is all it had wished. Then, a thought occurred: How long has This One been watching them exactly? It had no concept of time, except for the gradual change in the environment around it. And much change had happened. So, leaving them be for now, it floated to the top of the vast ocean, and observed something most peculiar.

There were others. Immeasurable others. Of many shades and colors. It was beautiful. Some were clumping together, and behaving as one, though rudimentary, and with many mistakes. The Evil Ones now secreted death, and preyed on those weaker than it. One curious example even made a bubbling sound, which fascinated This One. Another thought crossed it's mind: There were other cells. Could there be... Other One's, who floated and observed? It cried out as loud as it could, but no response was made. Most curious indeed. Perhaps, there is another way.

It fell back into the depths, and invested all it's understanding into the Fire Feeder's Code. With much effort, a change had occurred, and the species split, as planned. These new ones no longer survived off the heat, and could float freely into the shallows. A curious shape had taken them as well: The slime clumped them together, and created an immeasurably thin film, flattening them into a disk shape. They caught the Tiny Ones in it's film, and ingested them. This was a huge step. And if This One's hypothesis was correct, the other Cells would change as well. With much fear, it watched, as it's new experiment floated to the surface...

The attacks on his creatures continued, but the Matrices did not seem to mind. Their efforts were not all that fruitful, but it did bother the entity that his own creations had no way to retaliate against the creatures. Contemplating this dilema, but saving his power and influence, which the Matrices found was growing rather steadily. Thus, the being did very little, only making small modifications to their behavior, modifications that differed between the two colonies.

One colony became less aggressive and more easily frightened. The Matrices made no other changes to it, wishing only to see what genetic alterations might arise from this small modification. The being would observe how its environment would modify its code naturally, something it had not allowed to really happen for a long while due to its experimentation and influence over the organisms.

With this same ideal in mind, the Matrices turned its focus to the other colony, which it would refer to as colony Agro, with the other being the Passi colony. This colony would become, as a whole, slightly more aggressive in nature. It was more likely to fight back against foreign threats, than it was to run away.

From there, the being simply observed, watching how Agro and Passi would flee, or fight. It was interesting to watch the subtle changes that came about as time past. Changes that the being choose, for the moment, to play out.

A wave crashing, and the faint noise of gurgling. The world now sounded a little more interesting to the Composer. There was still much for it to do, of course, but it would get to them in time. At the moment, it wondered, what exactly did it do to the microbes underneath the water?

So the Composer looked closely at its pets, tiny little jumbles of organelles swarmed into a large mass. There was a new type of organelle there, one which the bubbles seemed to stem from. They were a food source, it would seem. And since they only produced bubbles in the day, the Composer concluded that they derived energy from the Sun.

But the Composer could find no creative solution to the main problem it found with the gurgling: namely, that it was too quiet. So, the Composer resorted to the least creative of solutions, making more of the bubble-producers. To that end, the Composer focused its power on increasing fertility rates.

A long time passed. The Composer stopped only when he noticed that a third sound - more of a slosh than a gurgle - had come into being.
