Hagan was so bullheaded at the moment that what Finn said to him barely even registered. What was about to register was his boot up Stacey's bitch ass. He narrowed his eyes at the son of a bitch as his grip got a little tighter.

"Let go, let go, please. I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. She ki-kissed me first. I didn't touch her. I swear, Brodie, I didn't! Do-don't hit me, Brodie. I'm sorry!"
Stacey

And Hagan's grip loosened because he was so caught off guard by... whatever the fuck Stacey was going through that his narrow stare turned concerned? What the fuck? Who the fuck is Brody? What the fuck is Stacey even on about? He tilted his head as he asked.

"The fuck are you even on about, faggot?"

Hagan asked as finally what Finn and Isla said registered in his head. He whipped his head around towards Finn as he hissed, "If he does it again, I'll kill him right here and now!"

"Hagan..." Zoey trailed off, "You're scaring me a bit here."

Hagan paused. He looked down and saw Isla also telling him to relent. He felt her touch him but couldn't feel anything but some type of revulsion.

Not saying or doing a thing.

He shook his arm so that Isla would release him before he shoved Stacey hard as he could to the ground. Before he took a few steps away and walked into the nearest office without a word. And Zoey sighed. Okay, she admitted that she stirred the pot there a bit but hey. Long as they aren't jumping down her throat. Zoey shook her head as she wanted to talk to Hagan but they needed to get accountability. Spooky Bitch and Penny were out there for a long time.

"Okay, I'm going to make sure that Penny's good..." Zoey spoke as she slid over towards the front doors of the bank. There were some odd sounds outside, like... people. And Zoey was hoping that this one long schizophrenic episode came to a fucking end soon.

Throwing open the doors was a confusing experience for Zoey. The entire environment had completely changed from whatever weird-ass generic city to... a bright and colorful city. Almost like she stepped through a time machine and entered the fucking 50's. Or 60's? Whatever the fuck. She was not home, but the streets of Paradise (?) were crowded and busy as all hell. Zoey was frozen as she looked back.

"Guys," She started, "Penny and Dessa are gone!"

Shit, this wasn't good. She was hoping that the two were okay.

"... And we're definitely not where we last checked."

She's losing it.

Odessa thought to herself with the tiniest grin as Penny rambled on. It didn't look like she listened given that she just stood there, staring at her with that smirk on her face. It was funny, that seemingly nothing was going their way. Fortunately, Odessa knew that there was a possibility that they could run into the rest of the strangers again. Or... they could end up like Mao and Lilith and disappear without a trace. It would be unfortunate if they never saw them again, but - for personal reasons - Odessa didn't like the idea of seeing some of them again.

“Any guesses as to what we do? I mean obviously we got to find them, but like how? Can you do your weird thing and sense them?”
Penny

Odessa chuckled.

"If you sacrifice just a virgin or two, I can work my magic," Odessa laughed, "But there are definitely not a single virgin around here." She joked again as she placed her hands together and walked down the stairs.

It was her way of adding levity to the situation. Any type. Because far as Odessa could tell, they were fighting insanity as much as whatever the hell this Paradise was throwing at them. Stay sane, stay alive. That's what she kept telling herself... but Odessa felt like people like her are already broken beyond repair.

And should stay that way.

When her foot hit the final stair Odessa fell to her knees. She pressed her hands up against the ground and focused, channeling her sensing ability the most that she could. Last time she tested it she could sense all Extra-Normals within the range of, say, a moderately sized city. However, that was an approximation and as talented, beautiful, and graceful Odessa was... she was far from perfect. Of course, she was never going to let Penny or anyone else know that. By channeling this ability, Odessa found one person... and she sighed.

"... It seems we have business to attend to, first," Odessa said as she stood up and faced Penny. "I can sense one Extra-Normal. And only one."

She sighed.

"... We should handle it first," Odessa said as she began walking towards it. Before she stopped on one foot and started laughing again. She pulled her dreadlocks aside as she said, "It's almost like this place wants us to do this, walk down this path."

Hagan threw him to the ground. He hit it hard, shoulder smarting on the tile flooring. He curled up on his side, arms guarding his head, waiting for his beating. His ankle, legs, back, stomach, chest, and face hurt. Phantom pains from the incident two years ago. He never forgot the touch of their fist and feet on his body. In his nightmares the beatings played over and over. He went months without sleeping afterwards. He was afraid to go to sleep tonight.

His breathing slowed down, the flashback faded, and the pain other than his shoulder faded. He uncurled, searching for Hagan. He didn't see him. He knew he couldn't trust him the first time he saw him. Men that big were always a threat. He needs to watch his back.

Wow, that was anticlimactic. I was hoping for more than that. Guess pissing yourself like a little bitch worked. Good job, Stace.

You haven't gotten over what happened before? Talk about holding on.

Stacey's red eyes looked at his brothers leaning over him. Of course they're back. As soon as he's feeling a little bit better they have to ruin his day. Fuck. He got off the floor, arms wrapped around his waist, and went back to the couch, sunk deep in the seat, his guitar close to him. He still hadn't gotten the feeling back in his fingers and they were shaking too much to play. He laid down, eyes closed, and tried to come down from his panic attack. He was exhausted, but he couldn't sleep with everyone else around. No telling what they'll do to him. Insomnia is normal from time to time. He'll tough it out for as long as he can.

You know, somehow Hagan continuing to swing Stacey around by his collar did little to quell Finn's panic. Luckily Zoey and Isla were able to deescalate the situation. Although they did wince as Stacey was thrown to the floor, despite their fear of his powers. They frowned, wanting to check in on the young man but doubting that they would be able to provide any comfort. Finn stood up slowly, their legs still feeling shaky from the anxiety inducing hallucinations. But they did look up as Zoey spoke.

""... And we're definitely not where we last checked."
Zoey

And with that information Finn smiled, like actually smiled, their form flickering in and out of visibility with excitement. Their eyes were wide as they glanced around the scene outside, taking in the details. Finn hurried over to the door, leaning against the door frame. They call back to the rest of the group.

"Wait! Wait I...I k-know this place!"

Finn turns around and begins walking over to Trent.

"Trent! I only live a...a block away! And my n-neighbor has a telephone in his house we can use!"

They offer a hand to their despondent friend. The younger man takes it, still looking slightly dazed himself. Finn leads him, with a surprising amount of energy, out the door. Finn seemed...a little blinded by the fact they were 'home' again to question how the bank got there.

Isla raised an eyebrow as Hagan shook her hand off, before storming off into a nearby office. She was relieved that he hadn’t shoved her as well and hopefully he’d cool off but… that wasn’t her main concern right now. If she was honest (which she rarely was), she wasn’t surprised that things had already gone to hit between people in the group. Aside from those who knew each other before (one of whom was dead) they were all complete strangers. Of course they weren’t just going to get in.

She sighed softly, nodding to Zoey as she headed towards the door. Isla walked over to Stacey and crouched down, holding out a hand in an offer to help him up off the floor if he wanted it.

“Are you okay?” she asked softly, though she had no idea what to say to actually help him feel better. He had just been grabbed then thrown to the floor. She didn’t get a chance to hear his answer, though, turning her head to look at Zoey at the door.

"... And we're definitely not where we last checked."
Zoey

“Huh?” Isla leapt up, jogging over to Zoey and freezing as she reached the door. Penny and Odessa had disappeared… and the city spread out in front of them was bright and colourful as if they’d been thrown into the past. It was fucking weird. In many ways it was more appealing than the place they’d been before but it was just not right. Nothing here was right. “What the fuck.”

She frowned, narrowing her eyes as she tried to come to terms with what had happened.

"Wait! Wait I...I k-know this place!"
Finn

“Oh yeah, I recognise it too,” Isla commented, with a hint of sarcasm and a roll of her eyes. “From every generic 60s film.”

As if they actually knew the place they’d been magically transported to while they weren’t looking. She tilted her head as Finn went to get their other friend, and started to drag him out the door. Okay, they really seemed to think that they knew where they were and that they lived here.

“Hey, wait!” Isla called out as Finn just went right past her and Zoey, leading Trent outside. Her words seemed to fall on deaf ears, however, as they kept going. She turned to Zoey. “Do you think we should follow them, or just leave them to go on a stupid adventure.”

She shook her head again, knowing exactly what she was going to do for all her pretence of not actually caring. She didn’t even wait for a response. “Fuck it, I’m going after them.” Then she followed right after Finn and Trent.

"Wait! Wait I...I k-know this place! Trent! I only live a...a block away! And my n-neighbor has a telephone in his house we can use!"
Finn

"Huh?"

Zoey said as Finn grabbed the other kid and just walked on out like all of this shit was normal. Some shit didn't add up, and it took Zoey another second for it all to register.

"Huh?!"

Okay, that didn't make a lick of sense to Zoey. This place looked straight out of some kinda movie, and she's way, way, too youn-

There was some supernatural fuckery involved here. Again. It felt like every fucking day of her life was going to be dominated by this shit... maybe that friend of hers was right. Zoey shook her head as she realized that she had to stay on task. The kids were wandering into what could be a trap.

“Do you think we should follow them, or just leave them to go on a stupid adventure?”
Isla

Zoey narrowed her eyes at Isla.

"... Was that a fucking question, sister?" Zoey flatly asked as she pulled out a cigarette - her last one - and lit it. Because she's going to need it. She couldn't believe this girl thought that was even a question, to begin with. The last thing that Zoey was going to do was-

Wait?

Where are Penny and Odessa? God damn it, god fucking damn it. This was going to hell in a handbasket, and Zoey had to keep cool. Okay, so, Penny's gone. So that meant that they were down a leader and the closest thing they had was here. Because giving Isla or Stacey a look, they weren't going to be able to find their ass with two hands. Okay, she had to think rationally... she had to go after the kids as fast as possible, but she also didn't want to separate further. There's already like a few of them as it is - also she thought that leaving Hagan with Stacey was a bad, bad, bad idea so he should come with them.

"Hagan!" Zoey screamed at the top of her lungs. "We gotta go!"

And Hagan came out of the office looking like he was about to fistfight. Hagan looked around and looked down at Stacey as he decided to just walk past them. Hagan looking at Stacey reminded Zoey... well, he looked like hot shit right now, but so did all of them. They would all be able to have a nice break when they find Penny and get the kids on a nice little leash.

"Stacey..." Zoey trailed off, restraining from letting venom seep into her words. "... Come with us, please."

Honestly, if he didn't want to come along, that was on him. With that first Apparition gunning for his ass... and Zoey shook her head in guilt as she realized that Caelea's death was all her fault. Still, they have a chance to avoid someone else's death and they needed to do it. Like now. Zoey followed after Isla who was following after the two and Hagan were right behind her.

Zoey ran through the people like they weren't even there, they were ghosts like the rest of them. However, Zoey didn't watch her step and found herself stumbling forward. "Shit!" Zoey hissed as she fell onto her hands and knees and shook her head... but one of the people that were phantasms stopped. And looked at her. It was a tall man with brown slicked back hair, wearing black pants, and a blue button-up shirt with a tie and dress shoes. He smiled at her... as people walked by.

"̷I̶n̶ ̷P̵a̸r̴a̶d̶i̶s̴e̶,̶"̵ He started off, "̷D̶e̸a̴t̴h̸ ̴c̶o̸m̴e̵s̸ ̷f̸o̵r̷ ̵e̵v̸e̴r̵y̷o̶n̶e̷,̸ ̷l̶i̸t̸t̴l̸e̷ ̵o̶n̴e̴.̷ ̴I̷t̴'̵l̶l̷ ̶t̶a̷k̸e̶ ̵y̷o̷u̸ ̶l̷i̵k̴e̵ ̴i̴t̸ ̸t̸o̶o̵k̷ ̵y̶o̴u̸r̷ ̴f̵r̴i̴e̴n̶d̴.̶ ̷A̵n̵d̸ ̶t̵h̵e̵ ̵f̵r̸i̵e̸n̸d̴s̷ ̷b̷e̶f̸o̴r̸e̴.̴ ̸A̶n̵d̷ ̸y̵o̸u̶r̵ ̵d̵e̴a̷t̵h̵ ̴i̷s̶ ̷l̸o̶o̸m̷i̴n̸g̵ ̷o̵n̶ ̷t̸h̵e̶ ̷h̸o̶r̴i̷z̶o̵n̶.̶ A̸r̴e̴ ̸y̸o̷u̶ ̴r̸e̷a̸d̶y̶ ̸t̵o̶ ̷g̵o̷,̶ ̷l̵i̷t̵t̷l̴e̶ ̸o̵n̶e̴?̸"̷

Zoey was frozen in shock... before a white-hot rage overcame her as she stuck her hand out and screamed at the ghost, "Fuck you!"

A stream of snow came out of her hand and collided with him... but he was gone and the snow just hit the ground.

"... Who the fuck was that?" Hagan asked.

"I can sense one Extra-Normal. And only one. We should handle it first. It's almost like this place wants us to do this, walk down this path."

Penny gave Odessa a mildly confused looked as she joined the girl at the bottom of the stairs. Then her eyes widened as realization as her lips drew in. She nodded. It was what she had planned on doing. Plus, she doubted that the missing others would just snap back into existence if they waited around for them anyway, so perhaps they’d come upon them out in Paradise. Penny checked the glyph cards in her pocket. The lines were as crisp as when she had drawn them. She was prepared for whatever was to come.

“Well then, let’s get to walking,” said Penny, moving ahead of Odessa before suddenly stopping. She had no clue which way was the right way. She crossed her arms and turned to Odessa. “So maybe you should lead the way for now.”

"Gladly," Odessa said with a smile. Given how Penny was... taking all of this, Odessa would rather be the one to lead the way herself. Just until Penny calms down just a little bit. Perhaps once they close this thread of theirs, they would be able to find the others... and that was just Odessa being hopeful. Deep down, Odessa knew that she would be watching Penny die sooner or later. Or hoped that they wouldn't find Mao's body or anything.

Odessa took a step towards that one little blip on her radar and just kept walking with Penny behind her… hopefully. However, the environment began to change, subtly at first but Odessa picked up on it almost immediately. It turned from this city - Paradise - to Farmer Hill… except a visage that Odessa was somewhat more familiar with. The ruins of Farmer Hill after that “earthquake” destroyed the place.

Odessa sighed as Penny drew in her breath. No matter how negative her feelings to her hometown had been, it always hurt to see it in this state. Seeing the broken windows and fallen rooftops of buildings she had walked by her entire life reminded her of all the people that were still missing after the town was reset. It always felt wrong, thinking of this version as her hometown. What had happened to her home had been much worse.

“... This place again?” Odessa said as she stopped as her attention landed on a particular sight. Sucre… the cafe that many yuppies and kids from Farmer Hill used to meet up at. She sighed as it was a mere destroyed replica(?) of the place, caved in at the roof and barely recognizable. “This place… it had it coming.” Odessa regretfully said.

“What?” said Penny, letting out a flash of the anger she was trying to hold in. Farmer Hill was a shit town, for sure, but it wasn’t that shitty of a town. No town was shitty enough to deserve what had happened to her town. Penny gave Odessa a glare, and then something clicked. She uncrossed her arms and buried her hands in the pockets of her cardigan.

“Why’d you say again?” asked Penny. “How do you even know this place?”

Odessa put her hands together at her waist and then shrugged.

“... I been through here a few times,” Odessa started. “Before and after it’s been destroyed.”

“Wait I thought you said you came from an African village in a whole other fucking universe,” said Penny, trying to keep the accusation in her voice from leaking all over her words. “This is Farmer Hill. Like why would you even bother coming out to Montana? Did...did you, like, go to Grand Ridge?” Penny would’ve known her then, so she couldn’t have. “Seriously, are you just fucking with me?”

Odessa started chuckling as she held a finger to her lips… except it stretched out a bit longer than it should have.

“I was born there but...” Odessa started off as she started walking around Penny, “... Is it wrong to want to go stretch your legs? See the world? Or the other ones?” She started laughing as she twirled one of her dreads.

“Odessa, please, stop…” Penny tilted her head as a dark thought crossed her mind that was accompanied with a pained expression. She hadn’t considered before that Odessa could possibly be tied to why they were stuck in Paradise. A lonely human-apparition hybrid with a broken memory that somehow manages to know too much regardless? No, she was just being paranoid. Penny tried to relax her strained face.

“Odessa, I’m fucking warning you, I swear. Stop. Screwing. Around.” Penny’s hand whipped out of her pocket and snapped at Odessa’s wrist to stop her from prancing around like an asshole. “This isn’t cute. I’m trying to find a good reason not to hit you, and I’d fucking love it if you could help me out in that regard. Why did you come to my town? When, even?”

Odessa froze, that grin of hers was completely removed from her face as she felt Penny’s hand on hers. For a moment, Odessa wondered if fighting Penny was even ideal. They were the only people here… other than that Extra-Normal that Odessa was more than certain it was that Apparition. Would Penny really take time to really ask this line of questions? When that thing was using their friend as a skin suit?

Odessa started laughing again.

Tears streamed down her face as she laughed.

“... You can hit me all you want, Lawson,” Odessa tilted her head. “And I would deserve every. Single. Hit. So… wack away. Whatever makes you happy….”

She stopped laughing.

“... Lawson.”

“Get the fuck away from me!” The hand that had grabbed Odessa’s wrist let go as it curled into a fist and flew at Odessa’s face and sent her stumbling backwards. Penny used the distraction of the king hit to back away from the mad girl, coins spilling out of her pocket as she pulled out her other hand. She appeared panicked, all wild-eyed and hunched like a cat ready to bolt, but she got a few yards away from Odessa and held her ground. Penny activated her abstraction, praying that the headaches would stay away, in anticipation for some kind of retaliation as she pointed a finger at Odessa.

“How the fuck do you know my last name? Who the fuck are you!?”

Odessa regained her composure and graced her face with her fingertips… her jaw was slack as she merely stood there in shock at Penny’s question. It was… Odessa didn’t know anymore. Everything was crumbling. Odessa dropped to her hands and knees, she started crying as tears began to stain the cold ground.

“... You know, that’s the only thing I can feel,” Odessa said in between sobs, “At least, that’s the only thing that the Hound left me. Does that make me more human or less..?”

Odessa shook her head.

“I… I just can’t keep up with these lies anymore, Penny,” Odessa said, “I just can’t stand looking at you, Zoey, Hagan and Caelea… and seeing a reminder of everything I ever failed. That I ever did wrong. And a reminder of everything I can’t be anymore.”

Odessa sobbed some more before she screamed.

“You want to know who I am, huh?!” Odessa shouted as she hopped up to her knees… and just decided to say it.

“... I am...”

She sighed.

“... Britney Williams.”

Penny trembled with rage at the mention of her dead friend’s name. Her initial reaction was to deny it completely, and she was going to demand the girl to prove it—accept Odessa already had. She had control of plants like Britney, she came from Glint like Britney, and she was a vague, cryptic know-it-all like Britney. That wasn’t what convinced Penny. Rather, it was the thing Odessa had said to her just before she had yelled at Stacey. It had sounded familiar then. Now she knew why.

“I got what I wanted…” muttered Penny, wiping her eye as she looked down at the girl. “You’re—” Her voice broke into a relieved laugh as she wiped her eyes again. Penny walked forward until she was standing over the other girl and crossed her arms as she looked down at her.

“You’re always such a bitch,” said Penny, smiling, as she offered Britney her hand.

Finley ran out the door with the other kid and Ilsa right behind them. Zoey calling for Hagan made him jump. He sat up and moved to the other side of the couch when Hagan walked by, ready to run if he needed to, but nothing happened. Then she called for him too. Everyone left. He'd rather stay, but he didn't know where they disappeared to or if he would get attacked again. If he went with them would it matter? They'd probably leave him for dead. Maybe not Ilsa. She helped him earlier, but he couldn't trust her. She'll turn on him like everyone else.

Stacey packed up his guitar, hitched it on his back, and left the bank. Everyone else was at least a half a block away. The town looked like something out of the 60s. He didn't like it here. Things that looked old had too much history to not be haunted or cursed. He wanted to go back inside and be away from all the ghost people walking the street. They didn't make him cold this time around, that's a bonus, but he still walked around them cause it's creepy to walk through them. He couldn't tell what was going on, but something happened to Zoey. She used her powers just for whatever she was talking to disappear. That was alarming. He jogged to catch up, but kept as much distance from them as he could. He kept peeking behind him to watch his back. He didn't want to be caught unaware if Hagan came for him again or if Zoey changed her mind. The more the thought if a repeat of earlier crossed his mind, the worse his anxiety. He jogged to catch up with Finley, Ilsa, and the other kid. Maybe they won't bother him if he's not secluded.

Finn continued to lead their friend through the bustling city, pointing things out like they were a tour guide. Finn was walking rather quickly, accidentally putting distance between the two younger teens and the rest of the group.

"And! O-over there that pizza shop is owned by a...a really nice guy! He's g-given me free food when I told him I was...was hungry and broke!"

Finn looked over their shoulder with concern when Zoey tripped, but this look of worry quickly turned more anxious as the man leaned over Zoey, and vanished after being blasted by her. What he said, Finn was too far away to hear the what but the way he spoke carried on the wind. His voice felt like a maddening, raspy, whisper.

This little outburst, and how the rest of the crowd carried on as if nothing happened, quickly snapped Finn out of their homesick bubble. Yes...this looked like their home, but something did seem strange. It felt...quiet? Empty? Finn felt a chill run up their spine. And suddenly the friendly, smiling, faces of the phantasms in the crowd felt less comforting. Finn quickly lead Trent back over to the main group, suddenly far more worried about the group separating again. Once the pair was back with the group again Finn muttered:

"Y-yeah I...I recognize this p-place but...it feels...different."

Finn frowned. If this...place, Paradise, was really just a strange dream, it was troubling that it was reflecting to a place Finn knew.

Without another word, Hagan grabbed onto Zoey's hand and helped her up to her feet, and then the two nodded at each other. Stacey wasn't that far ahead... but he seemed a bit rattled by what happened. And all of them were. All of this was probably going to require lots of therapy to get over but they had to stay strong. Because Zoey was, again, the leader.... or close to one as this little band of strangers and other weirdos was going to get. Eventually, Finn and Trent stopped running and then came back to them.

"Y-yeah I...I recognize this p-place but...it feels...different."
Finn

As Finn spoke, Zoey unconsciously tried to take a puff of a cigarette... that she dropped when that weirdo scared the piss out of her. The stress was starting to bear down on her and she had to... shit. What the fuck was she supposed to make out of this? Zoey had to stay cool, stay calm, stay collected because it was all she could do in this situation. And what would help is some cigarettes.

"... Because this ain't that place, sweetheart," Zoey said... as she tried to take a puff of a cigarette that wasn't there. Jesus Christ, she needed some cigarettes. "It looks like it, but... it ain't it."

Zoey harkened back to when "Paradise" took the appearance of Farmer Hill, just for a bit before they ended up on that damn cruise ship. To her, this was no different than that. She shrugged as she looked around... looks like Zoey was piloting this ship it seemed. Trent and Finn were too young, Stacey was... Stacey, Hagan was not any different from what Zoey remembered him as, Isla was loony as a toon, and fucking Penny, Odessa, Mao, and Lilith were gone.

There was a grim thought in her head that the missing members were gone for good and with a place like this, they might as well be. Zoey shrugged as she just had to stay positive and get her head on the right shoulders as she tucked her hands into her pockets as she looked down the girl.

"... Okay, let's think like really hard here," Zoey said as she put her hands up, "Do you know where anything like a train or a bus would be? Or better yet.."

Zoey looked around.

"Somewhere I can get some damn cigarettes so I can focus."

“I...” Odessa didn’t exactly take Penny’s comment in jest, unfortunately. It was yet another reminder that everything that she did. She didn’t take Penny’s hand as she wiped the tears and stepped off. “You’re right, I am a bitch.. I can’t just… I thought I could just move on from what I did… but I’m simply not the Britney you knew anymore.”

Odessa’s fingertips graced her face as she said, “This isn’t my body…

“Yeah, well…” Penny swallowed the no shit that was about to come out of her mouth. Odessa didn’t seem like she was in the mood for levity. Since she didn’t take her hand, Penny sat down on her haunches so that she was level with Odessa. “Maybe that’s a good thing? The Britney I knew she was…”

Penny winced as she tried to think of a gentle way to put it. “She wasn’t the most honest person I ever met. She had good intentions, and I’ll always consider her a friend, but she, uh,” Penny sighed and rubbed her neck. “She made it real difficult to do that, you know? It’s fucking hard trying to defend someone when they’re always keeping the whole truth from you.”

Penny grimaced and looked away. Odessa had lied to her just like Britney used to lie to her, omitting certain things whenever it was convenient. Maybe she wasn’t so different after all. Penny looked back, trying to hide her feelings of betrayal. “Why did you keep this from me?”

Every word that Penny said was correct, cutting into her like knives. Another tear ran down her cheek as she couldn’t bear to wipe it anymore. The sky began to get dark… and rain began to fall. Odessa knew that she wasn’t honest… and regardless of how far she reached she couldn’t say that she was a good person.

“I did it because I wanted to start again, Penny,” Odessa sobbed, “To move on… and finally, forgive myself for it all. Yet....”

She sobbed as the ground was being stained with the rain until her tears were gone. “I can’t do it anymore, can I, Penny?”

“That’s your call,” said Penny, slowly reaching forward to lift Odessa’s chin so that she’d have to make eye contact. The tenderness in her voice was warm, but it was being fueled by the little flicks of blue fire that burned underneath her words. “But I feel like hiding what you did isn’t moving on. It’s treading down the same path but pretending like it’s a different route. Everyone either hates what they were or what they’re becoming, but only one of those things can ever be changed.”

A sigh escaped Odessa’s lips.

“... Moving on isn’t easy,” Odessa sobbed as she shook her head and had to wipe the tears away… even as the rain continued to drench her. She felt herself become hydrated as she absorbed the water through her skin unconsciously. It was… too much for Odessa. She pulled her face away from Penny’s hand. Odessa stood up as she shook her head and kept her hands together at her chest

“But, I don’t think you understand...” Odessa started. “I’m not Britney anymore… I’m not even human anymore.”

The skin peeled away at her chest and out came her heart… which was strange. It was green, made out of plant matter instead of flesh and blood. And didn’t even beat. It had a strange orange glow to it… it was connected to her body through a network of wooden vines and roots. Penny visibility flinched at Odessa’s parlor trick, reflexively taking a step back.

“I’m just an apparition that just so happens to be clinging on to the leftover memories of Britney and this body is just… human shaped.”

“Yeah that’s...look I’m no botanist or whatever but you probably shouldn’t get that thing wet,” said Penny, hoping the girl would take her hint to put her organs back inside of her body. She gritted her teeth and turned her eyes up to look at the rain. It was coming down. Odessa was able to absorb the rain, but Penny just felt her cardigan weigh on her as it continued to get soaked. She moved past Odessa to stand under the reminder of Sucre’s awning and wrung out the end of her cardigan.

“It’s not like it works...” Odessa kind of missed what Penny meant but she put her heart away nonetheless and the skin furled back over. In an instant, it looked like she didn’t.

“Listen, even I’m willing to admit that I’m not smart enough to get into some whole big debate about what it is to be human. It’s not this, though,” she said, pushing up a sleeve and pinching her skin. “You saved me back on that ship, too. It seems like a pretty cool human thing to do. So even if you are just an apparition you seem to have a better sense of humanity than most people.”

Penny bit her cheek. “I’m sorry, should I even be talking? Because you’re right. I don’t understand. I still don’t, but I’d like to.”

The tears stopped as Odessa sighed. Not that Penny would notice due to all the rain. “... You will in time,” Odessa said. “Like I said… All Awakened become...”

Her dreadlocks were drenched as she said.

“... Apparitions.”

She shook her head as she remembered why she said that in the first place… why they came in here in the first place. “I think I made this too much about me… yes?”

She sighed.

“Let’s find that Apparition.”

“Yeah,” said Penny with a twisted, angry grin. She didn’t like to think about how she’d one day become an Apparition, but there was something strangely comforting about knowing what would await her at the end. It was kind of nice knowing there was a second chance in case she did mess up, although judging by how Odessa had been acting it wasn’t without its horrors. Besides, if Penny had to choose, she would rather set everything right the first time. “Yeah, let’s get that fucker.”

The two teens were moving quickly and Isla had to power walk to try and keep up. She was close behind them now, with a blink or two to help, and she could see Stacey behind her in the corner of her eye with Zoey and Hagan just behind that. She had no idea when Stacey had overtaken those two. He probably didn’t want to be stuck around them both which was understandable.

Hagan had looked like he was about to beat the shit out of him.

She came to a halt and spun around as Zoey tripped, eyes narrowing as one of the people stopped. She wasn’t close enough to hear anything but Zoey’s shout before he was gone. The fuck? Isla spun on her heels and walked back to where Zoey and Hagan were. Definitely better for them to all stick together if the weird ghost people around them were starting to talk.

Especially in this place that just didn’t feel right.

“Yeah, this place definitely ain’t real,” Isla shook her head, glancing towards Finley. “Maybe it’s made it from your memories or something creepy like that. It’s certainly not normal.”

As if to punctuate her point a person walked right through her. She shuddered at the slight chill she got at that.

"Do you know where anything like a train or a bus would be? Or better yet.. Somewhere I can get some damn cigarettes so I can focus."
Zoey

“Or somewhere with a map,” Isla piped up, stuffing her hands in her hoodie pockets and scuffing her foot against the ground. Almost as if she was bored and raring to go. Really, she didn’t like just standing here. In someplace that felt so wrong. “Y’know one of ‘em tourist map things, with nice big signs showin’ exactly where transportation is. Or just a normal map.”

She turned herself around to look at all the buildings lining the road and pointed. “Maybe we should just try one of those that looks like a shop, I’m sure every place is bound to have cigarettes in somewhere that looks like this.”

Then Isla turned back to Finley with a disturbingly cheerful grin. “Unless you know the exact locations of places to find stuff like that!”

Finn had fallen quiet. Now, really taking in the uncanny sights, they were starting to realize that Zoey was right. This place, as much as it looked like home, was still 'Paradise'. For a moment Finn's stomach ached, it felt like they were wandering into a trap. What kind of sick person paints a trap to look like something so safe? What Isla said, about this place possible being formed from their memories, made them all the more anxious. They...didn't remember someone, or something, rooting around in their brain, but at this point they didn't know what to believe.

"Do you know where anything like a train or a bus would be? Or better yet...Somewhere I can get some damn cigarettes so I can focus."
Zoey
.

“Or somewhere with a map,”
Isla

Finley nodded, although something about the way Isla smiled at the end of her sentence that made Finn feel...uncomfortable. They look away, towards their feet, before eventually turning to look down one of the streets.

"Uh...y-yeah we have a...uh...pretty big train station. It's...not to far away..."

They tenetively look back at the group.

"It will...certainly have maps...and vendors with cigarettes..."

Well...that was if these weird spirits wandering the street were still taking cash for goods.

Not expecting any complaints from the rest of the group Finley began leading them down the street towards the train station. For the most part the walk seemed rather normal, if not creepy knowing that some of the figures passing by were raspy voiced and aggressive. But occasionally a bright brick building seemed...odd. Slightly crooked, or just a bit larger than the building next to it. If this was really a place coming from Finn's memories, they either couldn't remember what each building looked like, or whoever crafted this place was getting lazy.

Eventually the narrow sidewalks widened out into a large parking lot, filled with colorful cars. Finn looked up at the large building the group was approaching. The front entry way featured granite pillars, topped with statues of eagles. Carved over the entry way: PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD EST 1846.

"Please God, Isla," Zoey awkwardly looked off to the side like she was in the Office. "Are you tryna out spooky the spooky bitch? Wipe that smile off before I do it for you." It was honestly creeping her out... and from the looks of it, also creeping out the kid.

Fortunately, their memory was good enough to lead them through these spooky ass neighborhoods... Zoey was on edge the whole time. Every person she passed she kept her eye on them and the sigil of a snowflake on her hand was glowing brightly. She didn't mind if anyone saw it, her abstraction was not a secret. Zoey sighed as they finally made it to the giant train station. And the question started piling up in Zoey's head, but to be honest with herself she wasn't Penny. Zoey was smart enough to leave well enough alone...

They approached the train station and Zoey was the second to walk in - she didn't even stop to look at the sign. Zoey stepped into the massive entryway of the place.. and then her eyes locked onto the tabacco dispensary aka the holy grail of cigarettes. Zoey ran over to it like a madwoman as she saw all sorts of cigarettes... they were all old as dirt but Zoey didn't care. They were probably the powerful shit because cigarette companies started pussyfooting.

Without one further thought, Zoey created a ball of ice and launched it at the vending machine. Creating a loud ass bang as glass shattered. And Zoey, seeing that she got the green light immediately pulled out the first box she could see and opened it up. She shoved the cigarette in between her lips as she lit and... Ahhhhhhhhh... cherry smoked bliss. Zoey sighed as the feeling of getting a cigarette after ten minutes of not having a cigarette was better than sex.

Zoey shoved as many cigarettes into her pockets as she could like she was a crack fiend... before she awkwardly looked over her shoulder at the group.

"Zoey!" Hagan said as he put his hands up, looking at Zoey. "The fuck?!"

"Sorry, Hagan," Zoey said, "I'd rather die with a pocket with of cigarettes than be empty-handed."

"That doesn't even make any..." Hagan said as he looked around... some of the areas of the place were closed off and they needed to get into that damn train... Hagan wasn't going to leave without Penny, however. Or that bastard that killed Caelea's head. Even if he was stuck here forever... Hagan focused on the task at hand as he focused on the nearby gate that leads to the train. He stuck his hand out as the orange thorny vine came out of his hand and wrapped around the lock. It squeezed down hard and ripped open the gate. Hagan sighed as he walked through and pushed through to the train itself. Hagan said as another thorny vine appeared and pried open the train doors. He looked back over his shoulder at the group.

"Let's find a way to get this thing started... as bad of an idea as that is," Hagan said to the group.

Isla looked a bit put out by what Zoey said, but stopped smiling anyway. She was just trying to be cheerful and all in the face of all the weird shit going on! But she guessed smiling was the totally not normal thing to do in this situation. Well, whatever. She shrugged as she followed behind the group in a nice adventure towards the train station.

She looked around her as she walked, taking in the overly colourful buildings with a raised eyebrow. Unlike most of the others she seemed relaxed with her hands stuffed in her hoodie and a neutral expression on her face. It was a look that she had perfected even as she was constantly expecting something to jump out at them, masking her constant looks around as interest in the buildings lining the streets.

By some miracle they made it to the train station without getting stops and it actually was a train station. Isla wandering away towards a different, old looking coke machine. She tilted her head as she looked at it before kicking it a few times. Eventually, after quite a few kicks, she managed to dislodge one of the bottles inside. She let out a soft sigh as she cracked it open, holding it away from her as half of the contents burst out. She turned back to the group as she chugged down the drink (it felt like it had been days since she’d had a drink).

Just in time to see Zoey shoving cigarettes into her pockets. Isla snorted, holding back a comment about her clearly having a problem. She probably already knew that.

“Maybe you should find a bag to carry all of them,” she said instead, with a slight grin and she finished the coke she’d grabbed and threw it in a nearby bin. She followed Hagan to the nearby gate and just blinked past it while he was destroying the entire thing.

She found it strange that a train was just there. In her experience, trains were only waiting in a station if they were about to go somewhere or it was the end of the day and no more were running. They didn’t just sit there. But then again everything in here had been weird as fuck. Why wouldn’t there just be a train?

"Let's find a way to get this thing started... as bad of an idea as that is."
Hagan

“There’ll be something in the front to start it, right?” Isla piped up, squeezing past Hagan and into the train. “Normally the driver sits in the front carriage… Bet it’s just a nice big lever or something on a train like this. It won’t be that hard.”

She paused to wait for the others rather than just powering ahead to find that. She didn't want to accidentally start a train and have to somehow teleport anyone on.

“... Do we have any idea where this train will go if we start it? Not that it matters if it goes outta here but shouldn’t we try figure that out before we go off to some other equally weird place. Though that does sound like a fun adventure.”

Finn was about to object to the theft of the drink and the cigarettes, as well as the way Hagan practically smashed his way onto the train, but stopped. Finn had to remind themself, again, that this place wasn't real. There were no vendors and employees that were going to get in trouble, and no law enforcement on their way to stop them.

“... Do we have any idea where this train will go if we start it? Not that it matters if it goes outta here but shouldn’t we try figure that out before we go off to some other equally weird place. Though that does sound like a fun adventure.”
Isla

Nervously and absentmindedly picking at their fingernails Finn responds.

"F-for the most part this...this train goes westward."

Finn closes their eyes in concentration, visualizing the route of the railroad.

"Th-the Virginias, Ohio, I-indiana and Illinois, but I th-think one of the lines goes up to New York."

They get onto the train, nodding to Hagan who was holding the door open, looking around the walls of the car, hoping to find some sort of map or identification. They frown. As much as this place, this train, everything, felt familiar, they had only taken the train a few times. And...apparently these rides were taken a long time ago.

"But...It's kinda hard to tell...which line we are on.

Finn looks over at Isla, nodding.

"Y-yeah...and we might...be able to...find a railroad map or...something...

“Maybe you should find a bag to carry all of them,”
Isla

"Does it look like there's a bag here?" Zoey answered... rather obliviously, but the only thing on Zoey's mind was a God damn cigarette. Oh boy, if it wasn't torturing herself, she would take mini breaks from cigarettes just to be reminded about how good they taste. Still, she slid her hands into her pockets as she walked onto the train because why not? Isla asked a good question and suddenly Finn started answering and Zoey realized that this, maybe, wasn't a good idea.

"F-for the most part this...this train goes westward. Th-the Virginias, Ohio, I-Indiana and Illinois, but I th-think one of the lines goes up to New York. But...It's kinda hard to tell...which line we are on. Y-yeah...and we might...be able to...find a railroad map or...something...
Finn

Zoey dramatically pulled the cigarette from in between her lips as she looked at Finn from the side.

"... Why do you sound super unsure, sugar?" Zoey asked with a raised eyebrow. "There something you ain't telling us?" Zoey pressed on.

"Ease up," Hagan sharply commanded Zoey... who replied with a shrug before she put her cigarette back in between her lips.

However, when the last member of their group of strangers got on... the doors suddenly closed themselves.

"Oh shit!" Zoey said as the cigarette fell out of her mouth. Before the speakers spoke,

"Next destination will be*̷̛̘͂̌͒̉̕͝/̷̣̳̗̈́̈̈́͌*̸͔̋͂͘͜/̴̫͓̦̝̐͐̑*̵̘͓͙͋̕/̵͉̞̞̫̲̹̲̠̇́̒*̸͉͚̭̯̱̥̠͔̼̿̍̀/̶̫̻̻̉͑̈̉͝ͅ*̵̻̼̣̠̦͚̭̾/̵̲͍̆*̶̫̮̜͓̙͊͐̓̆̆̆͂̈́̕͜/̵̦͇͇̤͙͛̓̓̀̍͑͘͠*̷͓̟̝̦̭̻͙̤͗͊́͆ͅ/̸̡̲͚͐̾̄̾̓̋͌̈́*̸̧̨̆̎̀̏̋/̴̨͖͔̻͖͊̏͋̓͑̆̒̊͝ͅ*̵̗͎͍̼̞͔̯͌̀̋̌͛̋̋͂̕/̶̛̲͙̻̘̤̕*̴̙̞͕̭̟̋/̶̧̡͓̟̠͈͓̅̆̚*̶̖̌̀͐͘/̵̞͖̹͓͓̠̺̔̔́̀̄̃͐̕*̴̧̊̂̈́̈́̄̌̽̒/̶͎̥͇̫̜͇͓̮̳̿̾̇*̶̛̠͍͚͔͓̓̈͝/̶̫̋̎̔̑̾͘ͅ*̸͉͈͉̰͐̃̈́̒̓̾/̴̧͚͚͈̗̬̤̾̅̈́̍̈́̈́̕͝*̵̢̼͓̞͋̏͂/̷̛̛̺̟̖̙̩͕̋̉́̄̕*̵̧̛͆̈́͆͆̀̀͝/̷̯͇͔̼͈̈́̒̀͑̑̅*̷̡̛͎̫̥̟̰̟͓̊̑̽͝/̵̡̗̜̞̦̘̣̈́͜*̴̘͍̈́̔͆̀̍͋/̶̨̭̺̞̪̥̈̅̈́͂̌̎͛̅̕*̷̪͍̼͍͐̀̈́/̷̟̖͔̘̻̻͙͛̄͋̊̋̊͒͋̈́*̵̡̳̺̜̺̮̌̒͑̔̀̓̊̋/̵̧̜̳̪̤͜͠*̴̭̦̦̭̈/̷̞̬͖̖̫̹͇͉͋͗*̸̨̩̜̩͔̻̤̄͆̆́̅̈́̎̍ͅ/̶̡̄̋̄̇͋͠͠*̸̨̤̯̱̮͂̂͂̚/̴͙̥͌́́̊̏͝*̵̧̛̬͓͓̙͈͔͂͊̑̅͜/̶̤̾̐̿̈͐͒̔̍͌*̵͇̥̩́̽͒/̶̛͍̬̖̤̥̣̻̖̊̇̃̇͂̏̚*̵̧͙̻͉̼̱̬̘͍̌/̶̡͈̻̖͎̝̝̥̮̀̌͒*̵̺̥̌͒/̷̻̖͌̉͌*̸̫͈̼̘̑͂̈̈́̓̈́́͝͠/̴̨̩̲̗̺͖͚̲̓̇̈́̊̽̈̂̒̀*̶͖̮̘̟̺̥̱͂̆/̵̢̛̣̰̭̯́̏̓̒͛*̷̢̯̻̮̘̟̖̈͐̅̚/̷̘̞̻͇̼̪͔̈́̍̄̾̄̀̅͐̕*̶̺͙̜̟̖͔̘̠̩͂̐/̸̢͈͉̤̺̾̓̊̇͐̈͛̋͆*̴̢̹͋͑͜/̶̧͇̲͋͐̕͝*̴̛͖̱̾͋̊̈́/̷̧̰̩͖̻͓̼̫̯̏̇͛͂͌́́̎̕*̸̨͔̖͙̗̣̒́͊̿̽̈́̎̎͂/̷̡̿͝*̶̼͈̪̰͎̘̺͍͔̄̉̑̌͊/̸͚͚͕͚̆̓͜"̶͔̹̜̣̜́̈́̿́̑̕ͅ

"... Oh boy," Zoey muttered as she ran over to the door and tried to pry it open as the train started. And then kept moving through the strange, strange city. However, the train went faster and faster - or did the enviroment start moving. Soon enough, it seemed as if reality was unraveling by a thread. Buildings were collapsing as it was starting to become a black void.

"... What the fuck?!" Zoey said as she stopped trying to open the door... only out of fear of what would happen if they got off.

They heard that familiar voice again... the one they heard when that familiar voice of a little girl.

"Please."

"I'm begging you."

"Just..."

"... Let it happen."

"I'm just so lonely!"

"I used the last of my power to bring you here."

"... I don't like where this is going!" Zoey shouted.

“Guess we don’t have to worry about figuring out how to start the train,” Isla commented after the doors slammed shut and the train started moving. Her mouth was set in a thin line and one hand gripped onto her hair, while she used the other to grab hold of a seat railing. Except it didn’t really feel like it was moving.

Shit only got stranger as the buildings started to collapse and that creepy, little girl voice spoke again. Because sending them on a joy ride towards who knew where wasn’t enough.

“Oh fuck off, you can’t just keep us here because you’re lonely!” she shouted at the ceiling, accent getting thicker towards the end of her sentence. She took a step back and into the centre of the carriage before her face screwed up in concentration. Purple symbols shone around her beanie as she forcefully tried to stop the train from moving.

Of course it did shit all. She groaned as the glowing stopped, as if she’d exerted a great amount of effort (but she really hadn’t).

Isla turned back to the group with a frown. “I can teleport us all back to the station… but it doesn’t seem like a good idea, since whatever that voice is seems to want us on this train!”

Of course, she wasn’t actually confident that she could teleport them back. For a start they might not be close enough not to mention the whole magical shit going on with the train just jumping into action itself. She was really, really unconfident on it working but it was technically an option. She was sure the others would shoot it down.

“Maybe we just need to sit tight,” Isla said, before shaking her head. That was a ridiculous idea. “Or maybe there’s something on this train that’ll help us!”

Stacey followed the group wherever Finley led them too. He didn't care as long as it was away from the ghost and inside somewhere. A train station wasn't what he was expecting, but okay. He'll roll with it. He woke up on a train when he first got here. Maybe this one will work and take them somewhere different and less creepy. The station was like the rest of the town, old and like it was out of the sixties. Cool aesthetic. Hagan felt the need to destroy property to get them free passage into the train. Not the way he'd go about it, but he wasn't going to say a word about it. Lest he turn his powers on him instead. He was the last to board to the train and the doors closed shut behind him. Stacey jumped and turned around. Through the window the city warped, the train sped by, he couldn't tell where they were going. A little girl's voice filled the car. It sounded familiar. Didn't he hear this earlier in the day? Or yesterday? He doesn't know how long it's been, since they got off the boat. It could've been a day by now. Not like it mattered. They were once again at the mercy of a monster and he didn't have anyone to protect him this time. He took a seat closer to Ilsa. She's one of the people that doesn't hate him. Nothing to do, but sit tight like she said. They couldn't get off, until it stopped.

“I can teleport us all back to the station… but it doesn’t seem like a good idea since whatever that voice seems to want us on this train! Maybe we just need to sit tight, or maybe there’s something on this train that’ll help us!”
Isla

Most of what Isla said was lost... as per usual since she was a talkative motherfucker. There was one thing on Zoey's mind.

"... Is there even a station to even teleport to?"

The Othergrounds constantly changes, and even if they teleported, who's to say they weren't teleporting into some type of void? Speaking of the void, Zoey looked forward and all she saw was nothing except for the train tracks. They were floating on fucking air and Zoey ain't having none of that. Looking down all she saw was nothing... shit, it looked like they had no choice but to run down this trail. Then the tracks disappeared and the train began falling.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Zoey screamed at the top of her lungs as the cigarette flew out of her mouth and she was floating. Okay, she was used to weird shit but this was something else. What the hell were they even falling into? Then they seemingly phased through the train... and stopped on seemingly nothing. The train went falling into the abyss and the only thing she was worried about was the fact some of her cigarettes went down with it (rip). They were standing... on nothing? While something went through nothing?

"Okay..." Zoey trailed off as she pulled out a cigarette and looked around. "... This shit's starting to make my head hurt." She lit it as she heard sobbing.

Turning her head she saw a little girl curled up on the ground, crying. Zoey raised an eyebrow as she couldn't discern much of her features... other than that head of red hair on her head. The girl was crying and Zoey walked over to the girl and kicked her square in the back.

"Hey, are you oka-"

"... OhmyGodIamsohappytoseesomebodyit'sbeenyearssinceIseensomebodyyearsIsay!" The girl rambled as she pounced Zoey and she almost thought she was under attack as the girl cried into her chest. Zoey had her hands up, apprehensive as her sigil began glowing.

"Alright kid," Zoey started, "Get your face out of my rack, sister!"

She pushed the newcomer away and got a good look at the girl. A short young girl with a bright head of red hair, she was like ten years old or something. She brushed her hair away as she smiled.

"I... I didn't know I could get you here," the strange little girl said.

"Alright," Zoey immediately recognized her voice as the one voice that they heard in their head when all the weird shit happened. She was gonna need a cigarette for this. Zoey, thus, lit the cigarette and took in a deep puff. "... Who the hell are you, your voice sounds familiar."

"I'm... Rosalyn Black," She introduced herself, "You can call me Rose."

"... Did you bring us here?" Zoey asked and Rose nodded. "Why?"

"I... didn't mean to," Rose answered as she pulled up her sleeve and revealed the sigil of a palm tree. "My... power pulls people here. At... random. I'm sorry I had to. I haven't seen a person in so long."

"Sorry but I'm playing the world's smallest violin here, sugar," Zoey shook her head as she took a drag of her cigarette.

"I've been trapped here, in this space, for years... so long I don't even know anymore," Rose started as she wiped a tear. "It was selfish, but I saw everything and... I'm sorry. So sorry for everything that happened here. Not just your friend's death, but all of them."

"How about we ask these questions later, Zoey?" Hagan said as he placed a hand on Zoey's shoulder before he looked up at Rosalyn. "... How do we get out of here?"

"Think I haven't tried to get out of here?!" Rose lashed out... before she sighed. "For so long... I've been trapped here. I tried everything to break free but... it didn't work. None of it did." She sighed again.

"... At least we'll be stuck here together."

"Yeah, fuck that, sugar," Zoey said as she turned towards Isla. "Okay, think you can teleport us out of here? Right now..."

Zoey looked around.

"... I think our options are limited."

With a nod of her head Odessa knew that it was time. They couldn’t exactly waste any time dilly dallying here any longer… with one more usage of her sensing ability she deduced that the Apparition was not too much further away. She wanted to grab onto Penny’s hand but she wasn’t sure how the girl would react. The rain was still pouring… and it seemed completely random but the last thing that Odessa was going to do was wax poetically about rain. They had to stay focused as she walked towards the site… and there was one thing that Odessa had to say.

“... That Apparition most likely knows we’re coming,” Odessa started, “But, they haven’t moved. So either they aren’t paying attention or they want us to come… just be prepared.”

They kept walking and eventually the environment started shifting from Farmer Hill to the streets of Paradise… it was rainy but there was something odd here. Well, it wasn’t a mystery. As they walked up there were mounds of dirt on the ground that reminded Odessa of dug holes. Except it was on concrete, asphalt, pavement… she kept walking until they made it to the park gates. Odessa put her hand up as she looked at Penny.

The last thing that Odessa wanted to do was give Penny vague instructions - or no instructions - and then let her charge in. Odessa had a plan, and a good one.

“Penny,” Odessa began, “I need you to distract that Apparition… I’m going to draw a sigil on the ground and I need you to get it to stop right over it so I can activate it.”

Odessa sighed.

Then I can seal that Apparition in something and we can be rid of it for good… think you can handle that?”

“Is there any doubt?” asked Penny, kneeling in the rain and hunching her shoulders to protect the slips of paper as she went over the lines on her glyphs with a marker. She stopped drawing, frowned, and flipped the sheets over as she looked up at Odessa. “Wait, how long do you need it to stop over the sigil? This an instantaneous thing?”

“Well...” Odessa trailed off… and hoped that Penny didn’t realize she was referring to her first statement. There was a stipulation. There always was. “Roughly thirty seconds… so let’s just say it needs to stop for a minute.”

Penny nodded and drew three new glyphs on the backs of the paper. As she finished each one, the glyph on the other side vanished as if the ink had evaporated from the paper. Then, careful not to get the cards wet, she slipped them into her pants pocket and stood back up. She tucked the marker between her teeth while she jingled a handful of coins in her other hand. Penny eyed the gate as she bounced up and down on her feet.“Okay, let’s make this bitch pay. I’m ready whenever.”

Odessa couldn’t muster the same enthusiasm to avenge their friend… that was only out of respect, however. Odessa pushed open the gate as she saw what was a normal park… with mounds of dirt but this time there were sticks shoved into the mounds, like a makeshift grave. Odessa knew what this place was… she sighed as she merely pointed towards the center of the place as she stepped into the bushes. In the middle of it she grabbed a rock.

“... Don’t disturb any of the graves,” Odessa left Penny with one message.

However… whips of air could be heard as the Apparition inside of Caelea came charging for Penny. However, it carefully maneuvered around the graves… until it had one clear shot at Penny and charged her. Only thanks to the noise did Penny have time to react. She clicked on her abstraction just as Caelea’s blur was charging at her. Penny dodged to the side. She so narrowly avoided the Apparition that she was put off-balance, catching her footing just inches away from the makeshift mound. Penny cursed and bounded away from the grave, firing off some spare change at the Apparition as she made distance in anticipation of its next charge.

The Apparition attempted to charge away but one of the coins went through Caelea’s cheek… coming in through one way and leaving through the other. Penny was trying to make distance and the Apparition attempted to close it. The Apparition charged… meticulously dancing around the graves as it went so fast that it looked like it was disappearing… however, the Apparition got one clean path straight to Penny and took it. Charging her head on.

Even with her abstraction tracking the movement of the Apparition it was difficult for Penny to keep up as it flashed around the grave mounds. The handful of potshots Penny took at Caelea blasted past her, and Penny found herself empty handed as the Apparition charged her again. Better prepared this time, she spun to the side to avoid getting slammed by Caelea but had nothing to fire off in return. She knew there was only so much time before the side effects of her ability made it impossible to see Caelea’s movement. Like a gunslinger going for the quickdraw, Penny reached down into her pocket and her bag and pulled out a card with one hand and an arsenal of Lincoln’s with the other.

She’d be ready for the next charge. She stepped back to prepare for another dodge, the back of her heel clipping the edge of a grave… and it revealed a skeletal hand.

“Get out of here!” The Apparition-Inside-Caelea screamed as it charged her head on… ignoring all of the graves that it was disturbing in an attempt to kill Penny.

Unaware of her dangerous footing, Penny held her ground as she unleashed a barrage of loose change at the Apparition. Without waiting to see the damage, Penny snapped the Keno card out in front of her and activated the glyph. Instanetously, she lost visual of the Apparition her other abstraction was cancelled. At the same time, moisture in the air solidified into a two-foot long blade of ice that jutted out from the card. Intending to let the Apparition gore itself on her blade, Penny prepared to leap away the moment she felt impact. And the Apparition seemingly ignored the present danger and kept charging in… it wasn’t like it could stop anymore. The Apparition was stabbed directly through the leg to the other side… and it loudly hissed in pain as it felt the stinging of it.

Meanwhile, Odessa had turned her hand into a long, thin, blade made out of wood and got to work. She wasn’t too far away from the chaos but she was risking it here, just so Penny could get a clear shot at it. Odessa drew a symbol on the ground, a sigil that she was familiar with as fast and neatly as she could.
Once it was finished, Odessa’s hand went back to normal as she tossed a grey stone that she picked up onto it.

It was ready.

“Penny!” Odessa shouted, and knew that she was smart enough to figure out what’s next.

“C’mon, you bitch!” hollered Penny as she danced away from the wounded Apparition, waving the two remaining Keno cards in her hands like a bull fighter’s cape. She reactivated her abstraction and drew in her breath as she toed the line of Odessa’s sigil. She waited for the Apparition to move, ignoring the pulsing pain in her temples. “Come and get me!”

The Apparition stopped as it faced Penny… and maneuvered its way through the graves carefully before it got a clear shot at Penny and charged. And as it charged Odessa hoped that Penny had a plan cooked up in her head…

As the Apparition turned to face her, Penny took one big step back into the sigil. She was careful not to smudge Odessa's work as she laid the cards down at her feet. Penny took another big step back as the Apparition charged, plotting it's course with her eyes and activating her glyphs the moment it would cross them. The two cards glowed as spears erupted from the ground to intersect one another, with Caelea's body being the crossing point. And the spears pierced the Apparition… and it screamed out in pain as it was almost forced out of the body.

And with a snap of her fingers, Odessa activated the sigil and the tree of life activated at the Apparition’s feet. Suddenly, the Apparition-inside-of-Caelea screamed as it’s smoky form was launched out of her body. Then it screamed as it clawed at its upper body as it was sucked into the stone.

And Odessa smiled as she casually stepped over to the rock and picked it up. That was one loose end taken care of but the Apparition was oddly quiet. Odessa would try to talk to it at another time. She decided to see if she can sense anyone…

“Penny...” Odessa started, “... I can’t sense anyone. It’s just… me and you.”

She chuckled darkly as she assumed Penny was going to bury Caelea.

“So… do what you need to, then we have to figure out what’s even next.”

“Right,” said Penny, wiping the sweat from her brow.

She stared down at the mangled body of her friend. Penny’s face was stone but there was a pallor to her skin. She had managed to hold it off while fighting the Apparition, but it was absolutely sickening to have to fight Caelea—even if it was only her body. Penny clamped a hand over her face and choked. Shrugging off her cardigan, she carefully draped it over Caelea to hide her face and her wounds before ducking down next to the girl to prepare a grave.

Her friend was tiny, but it would still take two earth glyphs. Penny grimaced as she worked, her fingers tracing through the mud as the rain continued to beat down on them. She stood up when she was done and activated the glyphs. The mud and dirt dove down and then swelled up like a wave, splashing away from the girls as a shallow grave was formed. Penny knelt besides Caelea, sharply drew her breath, and reached under the cardigan. Moments later, Odessa would be able to see the faintest sigil of a bird appear on her upper back through the material of Penny’s shirt as it glowed then faded. With Caelea’s abstraction now her own, Penny lowered her friend into the grave.

“I’d say goodbye, but I know you’re not really gone. I’ll see you again, someday,” said Penny in a low-voice, wiping her cheek with the back of her hand. She reached at the pile of dirt with her hand and used Caelea’s abstraction to blast out a light gust of wind. The dirt was blown down into the grave and eventually covered up her friend entirely. With Caelea buried, it was time to move on—but Penny didn’t budge. She stared at the wet lump of dirt that was almost indistinguishable from the other mounds around them. Something wasn’t right. Penny wouldn’t feel at ease if her grave was left like this. There was just something missing.

“Hey, Odessa,” said Penny quietly with a scratched voice as she looked up at Odessa. “She needs flowers.”

Odessa just casually watched as Penny buried their friend… probably Caelea didn’t see her the same way Odessa did, unfortunately. Still, life goes on and death is merely the gateway to infinite possibilities. Immortality is one of them but Odessa was going to keep that to herself. She wished that she could feign puppy-dog eyes but… it wasn’t in her nature. Penny now has Caelea’s abstraction, and she there was a thought that crossed her mind. Just the most curious thought that she couldn’t resist.

She created roses out of her hand that outstretched unnaturally… before they snapped off and Odessa handed it to her.

“... Just how many abstractions are you going to take, Pen-Pen?” She said with a grin.

“Well,” Penny mulled the question over as she set the bouquet down on Caelea’s grave and then stood. She glanced at Odessa, noting her grin. “I guess that all depends on how many more of our friends we lose. Or were you being serious? Because...because then I don’t know,” said Penny, sighing. “But I’ll take whatever advantage I can get.”

Odessa took a risk… she grabbed onto Penny’s hand as that grin was wiped away. Just for a moment as she looked up into her eyes.

“... We’re not going to lose anyone else, Lawson,” Odessa declared. “I promise you that… I also promise that, eventually, maybe, we’ll finally be able to get a rest. One day. I mean, with the Glutton gone, the fight’s… over.”

“I dunno if the fight’s over yet, but it’s gonna end someday. I’ll make sure of that,” said Penny, worming her hand free from Odessa. “Come on, Williams. Let’s go find the others.”

“Odessa.”

She sharply corrected her friend.

“Britney Williams died,” She started, “I was there, you know.”

“Yeah,” said Penny, rubbing her neck. “I know.”

Odessa looked around and saw that, while they weren’t paying attention, the area changed back to Farmer Hill. Except it was at its height. Its… golden age. Beautiful buildings, and other such beautiful things too. Odessa smiled. It brought back memories.

However… this isn’t her home anymore and that smile went flat.

“Let’s go,” Odessa started, “Maybe we’ll find a way out of here.”

Farmer Hill was one long tragedy after the other...

“The fuck!” Isla yelled as the train suddenly fell out from beneath their feet… but they didn’t plummet to their death with it. Instead they were just floating in a void. Right, because that was exactly where they wanted to be. Great! Getting on that train had worked out very well for them all.

She slowly, cautiously, followed Zoey towards the source of the crying. A red haired little girl who seemed all too happy to see them. Yeah, yeah, getting stuck in a void for all eternity must suck. But what also sucked? Being dragged into this mess when just one person could suffer for it.

Isla had absolutely no sympathy for her, that was certain. She remained silent with a frown as Zoey talked to her.

“Yeah, I definitely ain’t here for that being stuck together bullshit,” Isla huffed out, folding her arms as she glanced around at everyone. There were six other people here besides her. The most she’d ever teleported was… maybe one or two. She hadn’t had many other opportunities to cause, y’know, how do you just explain the fact you can teleport to a normal person? She had no idea if she could teleport so many of them, especially out of here. To where? Did the station still exist, like Zoey had said earlier.

“I can try,” Isla replied eventually, her usual confidence faltering even as she tried to cover it up. She then held out her hand towards Zoey, and the little girl. The other she directed towards everyone else. “But we’re all gonna be holding hands or have some kinda chain contact cause I ain’t gonna be able to guarantee I bring everyone along with it. I know some of you ain’t happy with each other but it’s worth it for the shot of getting out, ay?”

She smiled, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes. She began to prepare as she waited for everyone to link up in some way, thinking about the station (most likely to be “close” enough, if distance even existed here) so that she could teleport them as soon as everyone was ready.
