Metatropolis

The sun is shining, and it's lunch hour on a Wednesday. On a large screen, high above the bustling streets and sidewalks, a corporate advertisement is coming to it's conclusion, "- Meta-Life Laboratories; providing a meta tomorrow, today!"

In a seedier neighborhood, someone looks about conspicuously before stepping into an unmarked building with a large, red door...

A large stadium is testing it's "jumbo-screen", with purple-pink streaks zipping across it, the after-images spelling out "DYNAMO! TONIGHT!!" Nobody notices a blue streak moving through the stadium, itself.

The presses are running as fast as ever, over at the Trying Times, and throughout the city, if one keeps an eye out, they'll notice the odd individual scanning the horizon from a rooftop, and lurking down a shady alley.

Just another day in a city that stands out in the world, for openly embracing it's Meta-Human citizens.

That doesn't mean everything is all "sunshine and rainbows", though.

In the business district, an armored car is driving along it's route, unaware of a larger, more heavily armored vehicle on bulldozer treads with a towing crane and a ramp across the front that is following it...

Cameron Mason/Dynamo
Metatropolois

It was just another normal day in Metatropolois. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and business was going on as usual. Cameron Mason, Aka Dynamo had a concert tonight he should be getting ready for. However, that was hours away. In the meantime, there was hero work to be done.

A pink streak could be seen scurrying through the business district of the city. A lot of businesspeople felt the breeze as the pink streak passed them by. That pink streak was Dynamo. His manager told him there had been reports of suspusicious activity going on in the business district. There was no doubt his fans would have loved to see a little action before his big concert tonight. That was how he ended up chasing a heavily armored bulldozer following a heavily car. He was accompanied by flying robots designed to film his every move. There were also cameras embedded in his suit, for an up close look of the action.

Cameron kept pace with the suspicious armored bulldozer, and would be sure to jump in in case any funny businesss happened.

The sun shined through the windows of the martial arts studio. It was lunch on Wednesday and Atticus leaned back against the wall inside the main room; keeping an eye on the students that were practicing together one on one. This was one of the classes of younger kids from the nearby low income neighborhood. Either they would come during the latter half of their lunch hour at school, or they didn't go to school and the studio was one of the few places they could come during the day.

"Remember to plant your back foot," he called out to one of his students, "if you don't have an anchor point your opponent can easily knock you over." As he said that the aforementioned opponent struck out with a sharp kick and knocked her over. He pushed off the wall and walked over to her, pulling her back to her feet and showing her the proper stance and motion of the move they were practicing. He took a step back and gave her a smile of approval as she swung her leg into the ribs of the other student.

During all of this he kept part of his attention on the police scanner that was chattering through a small ear piece; listening for anything that might require him to run out and leave his brother in charge of remainder of the class.

The crane, with it's hook, swiveled and lowered, the "tank" speeding up before the crane raised again. The hook practically bit into the rear bumber of the armored car, and was quickly scooped up on the ramp, a panel folding up to keep it from sliding back down.

A gravelly voice shouted over an apparent loud-speaker, "Oops! Miss a payment? Hahahaha!"

Meanwhile, the driver and his partner were panicking in the cab, the passenger fumbling with the radio, "SHIT- Car 55 under attack! I repeat, Car 55 under attack! He caught us by surprise- TANK MAN, that's who! send back-up! Repeat, send- !?"

The response was static and feedback, and the voice boomed again, "Momma don't like no tattle tales!" The ramp lifted, only to slam back down, spitting sparks on the asphalt! The riders inside were violently shaken, the driver falling unconscious.

Atticus continued to walk between his students, gently adjusting their form or showing them the proper motions. He almost jumped at the sudden increase in chatter from his ear piece. Sounded like some kind of attack in the business district, communication was lost with an armored transport vehicle. He made a quick gesture towards his brother, Marcus, to take over while he slipped into the side room and up the stairs into their apartment above the studio.

He continued to listen to the rapid fire codes that were being tossed around over the ear piece as he closed the door to his room and pulled up one of the floorboards in the closet. He yanked out the chest hidden in the space below and quickly pulled on the pieces of his costume. Shoving the chest under the bed, Eclipse pulled up his hood and tapped a few times on the shades he wore to tint them properly. He easily slipped out the window into the shaded back alley of the studio and vanished into the shadows.

Reappearing in another alley closer to the district he took several seconds to catch his breath "Ugh, teleportation sucks," he pushed out of the alley and continued at a sprint towards the business district, "could've gotten the power of flight or something, but noo, just had to be shadows." He skidded to a stop a little ways away from where he could see a massive tank digging it's claws into the armored car. "Now that's just excessive." He caught a flash of pink out of the corner of his eye, followed by several cameras, "Here to join the party Dynamo? It's a big one!"

He focused back on the tank feeling a flash of concern as it got violently jostled. Big things like that cast huge shadows though, which is just what he needed. He caught up fairly easily, something this big couldn't go that fast, and reached for the comfort of the darkness. He grabbed onto it concentrating on turning it into something else; grinning behind the mask as he formed gauntlets tipped with razor sharp claws at the ends. He jammed them into the side of the tank, slicing through the metal, before beginning to haul himself up; carefully avoiding the clanking treads. Better to end this quickly before anyone got seriously hurt.

Cameron Mason/Dynamo
Metatropolois

The Tank Cameron was running behind extended its crane and scooped up the armored car. Then it shook the car violently, which couldn’t have been good for the people inside. Cameron cringed. “That’s not good.” Then he saw shadowy gauntlets latch onto the tank, and hoisted up a familiar figure. Dynamo’s eyes lit up underneath his visor. He ran in place for a moment to build up more speed, then ran up the side of the tank.

“Oh my gosh, Clipsey, hi! What are you doing here? Everyone knows I’m the one that’s supposed to be the center of attention!” He laughed out loud. “Jk jk. So, are ya coming to my show tonight? It’ll be so much fun! There will be music, and sparkles, and of course me in lots of fabulous outfits!” Dynamo ran around in circles as he babbled on and on while the robotic cameras got all the footage. Then he stopped running for a second. “Oh, but first... There are probably peeps in that car that don’t wanna be here.” He gestured to the armored car on the ramp. “We should probably get them out huh?”

Cameron ran up to the ramp where the armored car was, and ran around it trying to pry the doors open. No luck. These armored cars were no joke!

Eclipse laughed lightly and grinned behind his mask, “Heard the police chatter,” he let himself drop down onto the ramp where the armored car was trapped, “Couldn’t let you have all the fun.” He huffed in amusement at the speedster’s chatter, “If we can get this dealt with I’ll be there.”

He nodded in agreement and watched as Dynamo tried to pry the doors open, but it didn’t seem like he was having much luck. He could see that the driver was unconscious which was less than ideal. He focused for a moment, drawing more of the shadows around him into the claws allowing them to lengthen. He found the seam of the door and sunk the claws in pulling back against the door, using the longer claws as leverage.

“Come help me with this,” If they could put enough pressure on it, it should pop the lock, “Driver’s unconscious. We need to get him out.”

Metatropolis

Dynamo watched as Eclipse extended his shadowy claws, and sunk them into the seam of the door. When he asked for help, Dynamo nodded, and grabbed on to the handle. “Ok, we got this.” He jiggled the handle, and vibrated his arm rapidly in the way only a speedster can. It wasn’t long before a click sound could be heard, and Dynamo pulled the door wide open. “Yay! We did it!”

The Speedster poked his head inside. “Have no fear! Dynamo and Eclipse are here!” The pair helped the unconscious driver, and his partner out of the car. “Ok listen, the unconscious guy needs to get to a hospital like now! I’d take ya, but um... as you can see... I’m fun sized...” Cameron rubbed the back of his head nervously. “I don’t know if I can carry him there and still keep top speed...”

Nothing like a standard day when you're pretending you can't do the things you can do, and that you are just...one normal person. Another morning spent doing standard inventory, verifying everything was set, serving the randoms that came in at seven in the morning to get drunk. At least it didn't include balancing books today, managing an actual business. A couple calls, a couple accepted jobs he just needed to help middle man to find the right person for. Eventually things would fall into place.

By noon, business "picked up" as much as it ever did for noon. Everyone was awake, at least everyone that mattered, and that meant he at least had help that he wasn't stuck running everything. Same usual riffraff was around, same standard shit.

"Barry, for the thousandth time. No one thinks you're badass. No one will ever think your badass," Wayne sighed as he slid a drink down the bar to the latest person to saddle up to it.

"You know, one of these days, you're going to come out from behind that bar..." The guy started, pointing a finger of the same hand holding his drink. "and you'll finally tussle with a real guy."

A few of the others laughed. Until Wayne put down the towel. He straightened up and the laughter died, and Barry sat back down. Wayne nodded, smirking to himself. "Unlike some people, I don't need powers to be dangerous." He shot the guy a smile, and a knowing look. "Now, just be the good drunkard you are and stop trying to impress anyone. No one wants to hear about that one time you did that one thing. Everyone's heard it before. Come up with something new."

In his ear, a police scanner chittered away. Some robbery. Nothing his group had been hired to help with - either robbing or preventing. Sounded like it would draw some gooders. Well, maybe something interesting would come up. Hell, maybe someone would get hurt. No one was hoping for injury, especially the backroom medic, but...a bit of blood always made shit interesting.

Eclipse sighed in relief as the door came free allowing them access to the people inside. He let the claws disperse back into the shadows around the tank; as they pulled the unconscious driver free he weighed their options trying to figure out the best way to get everyone out of this safely. He could try to teleport himself and the driver, but that was risky at best and deadly at worst. He crouched down next to the driver and checked him over. Beyond a growing bruise on the driver's forehead he couldn't see anything physically wrong, but they wouldn't know without taking him to see a doctor.

He hefted the driver up into a fireman's carry across his shoulders, trying not to jostle him too much, "If you can keep this guy busy," he gestured upwards to where he assumed Tank Man would be, "I can get him out and to the hospital quickly enough." He looked at the shadow's nearby plotting quickly how much he would need to gather to safely cloak himself and the driver. Getting off this thing would also be much more difficult than getting on, especially with the extra weight, but he felt like he could do it. He manifested one of the clawed gauntlets again, using the shadows he would've used for the other to make a sort of lash for the driver, so he hopefully wouldn't go flying.

"Good luck!" He called towards Dynamo as he used the dragging ramp as a bit of a springboard to leap up and around to the side of the tank; grunting with the extra weight and bulk of the unconscious man he drove the one gauntlet into the metal of the tank. He didn't know exactly how long he could hold on, so he hoped Dynamo got to distracting quick.

Eclipse picked up the unconscious driver, and told him to distract the guy running this tank. Dynamo's eyes lit up. "Oh boy! An actual confrontation with the big bad! My fans are gonna love this! People tell me I'm good at being annoying. Can't imagine why." Cameron laughed out loud. "Be back in a jiffy!" He gave a salute, and ran off.

In order to distract Tank Man, he had to get his attention somehow. What to do what to do. He got an idea. He ran around in circles around the tank to build up speed. Then, with the momentum he had built up, he knocked the crane out of the way. “Oh Tanky! Come out and plaaaaay!” He taunted as he ran around the tank in circles while knocking on the walls.

More than once Tank Man swore he heard noise on the outer hull, but when he checked his cameras he didn't see anything like someone attacking. "Huh. Wonder was that was.."

He tapped the screen when he started noticing pink streaks on every feed. "'The hell is that? these aren't even color cameras..." He leaned forward in the cockpit, though, as he noticed the floating machines. "The hell are those?" there was a drumming circling the outer hull, now, "...You want to play, huh? Alright."

The machine stopped suddenly, flipping a few cars and doing serious damage to the street as it did. A rear hatch opened wide, a lot of steam releasing as it did. Through the steam, a hissing of hydraulics and clunking of metal could be heard, until out stepped the infamous Tank Man.

his voice rang out through some kind of speaker, but still sounded like he was talking through a tin can. "Alright, ya little punk, you've got my attention. What, you want an autograph, or something? Gimme the control to your stupid drones and I'll forget this happened. You and your little punk friends quit bangin' on my tank before you get hurt."

Eclipse had to stop himself from laughing at the rapid chatter of the other hero, all his focus currently on not losing his grip. The sudden stop of the machine almost caused the shadowy claws to dislodge from the metal they were hooked into. He winced at the damage to the cars and street. Hopefully they had insurance. He dropped to the ground next to the tank; repositioning the driver across his shoulders. He hoped the passenger in the armored car would take this time to get out of danger while he had the chance. He looked to the side at the sound of hissing steam; watching the talking soup can come clunking his way out.

"You got this Dynamo?" he called out towards the speedster. Small and fast vs big and slow was a pretty good match up, but he didn't want to leave if there was a chance of someone else getting hurt. The driver needed to get to a hospital, but there was a good chance someone had already called the police, and they would most likely have an ambulance with them. He waited for a moment just in case Dynamo needed any help with this guy.

The police scanner had been abuzz with activity; detailing a high speed chase robbery with both Dynamo and Eclipse now on the scene! Any moment now his car will be pulling up and throwing a wrench into those blasted heroes attempts to foil the tank man as he would soon be shouting that fate would aid in his villainy!

He could just picture himself jumping out of the car and showing everyone what a true villain he was to let his car derail the armored car injuring the guards inside." You chose an ill fated day to play the hero! " Is what he would shout at the pretty boy speedster and the gloomy shadowy guy. Evan pumped his fist as he sat in driver's seat of his car picturing how all of this would go, but instead found himself parked across the street from the red door dressed in his mistaken hero outfit as he sat there laughing manically at how amazing it would of all played out. Then he stopped mid-laugh upon remembering where he was and found himself grabbing and strangling the steering wheel in frustration." Damn it! Damn it! Damn it! It should be me out there doing such an epic villainy act! " Slamming his fist against the wheel before thumping his forehead against it causing an extended loud honking as he sat there stewing in his rage at missing out on it.

This could of been the perfect opportunity to prove he was no damn hero...not going around working these damn escort jobs! The young masked adult grumbled before sitting back against the seat." This is just so unfair! I'm sick of being used as an uber... " Growling while rubbing his hands ferociously through his hair.

With a reluctant shove, he got out of the car and had started stamping his way towards the bar only to skid to a stop and ran back to grab the cup holder holding two hot cups of coffee.

Kicking the door open and made his way inside and headed towards the counter while grumbling, where he nearly slammed the cup holder down." Ugh, I'm not a secretary damn it! Neither am I an uber, I'm a legit villain and deserve to be out pulling jobs like this!" Slamming his palm repeatedly against the counter as he exclaimed his distaste to constantly receiving these demeaning escort jobs." Of all the guys it had to be tankman?! The guy's a lumbering idiot in some scrap metal suit for pete's sake. " Thumping his forehead against the counter top after having another glass of liquor pulled away from his reaching hand.

He didn't even get enough respect to be able to drink and all cause he wasn't exactly 21 yet.

Wayne was crouched, restocking the shelf of glasses beneath the bar, when the door kicked open. But he wasn't in a rush to stand. Half the patrons of the place did shit like that. The other half were the proverbial 'heroes'. It had cost a pretty penny, but having the door outfitted to withstand shit like that was worth it.

When he finally stood, Wayne didn't hesitate to take a cup from the holder Evan placed onto the counter. "You're late." He didn't even look at the kid until after he'd popped the lid of the coffee and taken a sip. When he did, all he could do was chuckle. "Kid, Tankman is out there working a job all his own. It didn't come through here. So that's first of all. Second of all, that 'lumbering idiot' - as you called him - can actually manage to work a job without it going sideways."

"Face it; you want to be a villain and not play taxi for rich people that want to be seen with some vigilante, you gotta figure out how to make your power work for you. Until then -" he tossed a pre-loaded credit card at Evan - "be happy you can make money in some way. Or...I mean, you could revert back to your previous option."

Wayne shot Evan a knowing smirk before mixing up a virgin mojito. He put the glass in front of the kid. "So chin up. At least that idiot paid pretty well for a twenty minute drive."

Well, all of his taunting worked. The giant Tin Man lumbered out of his tank. Damaging a few cars, and the street in the process. That wasn’t good... People weren’t gonna be happy about that... Instead of focusing on the negative, the short young superhero just had to laugh. [color=pink]Dynamo ran up to him. “Wow, really? Ok boomer. Have you been living under a rock? If anything you should be asking me for an autograph!” He then ran up to his side. “And if you want the controls to my drones, you’re gonna have to catch me Tin Man.” He then proceeded to run around shouting “Over here!” Then running off somewhere else, and repeating the process. In truth, Cameron didn’t have the controls. Someone else, far away on a computer did... But... Tin Man didn’t have to know that.

Eclipse asked if he needed any help, and he were being honest, he wasn’t sure what he was going to do. He knew he couldn’t keep running forever, but how was he supposed to hurt the guy in his iron armor? Still Eclipse had to get that driver to the hospital. “Go, I got this!” Then racked his brain for a solution.

Eclipse hesitated for a moment, "I'll come back as soon as I can," he took a step back into the shadows of a nearby office building, "Good luck!" He took a beat to darken the alleyway, just in case the villain got bored and tried to follow. If he did he'd have a hard time blundering his way through pitch blackness in that metal suit. The driver was a dead weight that grew heavier by the second, but he had a rough idea of where the nearest hospital was. Thankfully not too far. He ignored the both odd and concerned looks of nearby civilians as he jogged from the alley who, apparently, hadn't be warned of the nearby problem.

It took longer than he would've liked to get to the hospital, but he quickly got through the doors to the immediate concern of the nearby nurses and waiting patrons. As a doctor was called and a nurse ran up, he rattled off what he could discern while at the scene, "Severe whiplash, possibly a concussion, but there's no external sign of injury." As a gurney was pulled up, and the man was settled on it, his shoulders sagged slightly in relief. He gave a quick salute and grin to the staff, "Back to work for me." He turned and ran back out the doors towards the direction of the fight. Hopefully nothing had gone wrong in his absence.

The villain shrugged, "hey, wait, aren't you that f***** I seen on tv? Shit, I didn't even think you were real! Meta, huh? Look at you go..." He turned his head as he zipped here and there. "Well, 'Dynamite', or whatever, I don't have time for your wanna-be k-pop routine or whatever it is you're up to. You wanna play hero?-" He pushed a button on his wrist, and a hatch opened on his tank, firing a rocket at a nearby building! it knocked down some rubble and an awning, trapping and threatening to crush some onlookers that had gathered! "-Go play hero." With that, he turned, and tromped back into his machine, closing the hatch behind him and getting moving again.

Evan found himself brooding as he sat there on the bar as he gave a sputter of his lips at Wayne's remark at being late. Resting his cheek against his left fist propped up by the elbow while his right fingers lightly drummed away at the counter top." I'm not your coffee boy. " He muttered beneath his breath; preferring not to mention the reason for his lateness due to him listening in on the current chase and fantasizing joining in like a proper villain.

" Tch! Well Tankman handled this job very sloppily. Going big at the start and drawing two heroes on him not even five seconds of getting the armored truck." Scoffing with a fresh drum of his fingers upon being reminded of his inability to pull off a villainous deed without his infuriating powers getting in the way.

He turned his head to glare daggers at the bartender through the mask of his and sat up." Don't you think I know that?! Don't need to keep reminding me. I would of done it if I knew how." Growling out softly with his head lowered slightly to peer down at his closed fist shaking lightly against the counter; noticing his frustration rising again and took a deep breath to try and calm down as he knew like most patrons it was foolish to mess with this man.

The bartender really knew how to strike at his heart, hitting him with another dagger to the heart with his latest comment." Ugh, don't call me vigilante! I hate being referred as such." Huffing from his nose while sitting back up to glare at Wayne once again, seeming to say more until he was offered the virgin mojito and settled down to sip at the drink to let it soothe his ebbing nerves.

"Oh good! You have heard of me! I guess you're not a boomer after all!" Cameron laughed, but soon things stopped being funny very quickly. He pressed a button on his wrist, and fired a rocket at a nearby building. That wasn't going to be good for the civillians that had gathered nearby. First rule of being a hero, always save the civillians, even if the bad guy was getting away.

Cameron zipped off torwards the building, outspeeding the rocket. He was fast, but from his point of view, everything moved in slow motion. He ran back and forth grabbing people and dragging them to a safe area. He got the last person out of there, just in time for the rocket to crash and knock down the awning before it could crush anyone.

"Is everyone ok?" He asked the crowd.

The crowd blinked for a moment as they processed what had happened. From their point of view, they had been standing in one place, and suddenly they were somewhere else. When the rocket crashed, they burst into applause, and cheered Dynamo's name.

Cameron stayed there, taking a bow, and enjoying all the attention. "Thank you, thank you all in a day's work." Cameron hoped Eclipse was on his way back soon, and wouldn't let Tank Man get away scot free.
