As all the shenanigans with the dragon and the odd winged child were going on, Kaz was busy whipping out his cellphone and playing around with the applications he had downloaded. He needed some way to kill time, and getting into some form of combat like the others just wasn't exactly his forte, after all. So Angry Birds it was until their boss came in and gave his announcement. Hopefully he wouldn't be sidetracked with talking down his half-sister too long. He didn't want the whole floor to devolve into a huge melee. That would be really inconvenient.
And then he heard the winged kid from earlier mention his father doing stuff to him.
Kaz paused, both his game and in real life as he just listened in to it. This kid... could've been him, if his father was even a bit more dedicated to pursuing the Art. For all he knew, the spiritual surgery could have gone the opposite way, he could've been the corpse who got his soul transplanted. Hell, he could've been alive and had that happen.
Kaz shivered. He didn't want to think about that, actually. At the very least, he quietly thanked the heavens that his family's magecraft didn't deal with any transmutation or living familiars.
