The sun is just beginning to rise upon the start of human kind- among others- in this world of harsh reality. A small village, nestled within a mountainous valley is stirring. A large platform and a fire pit in the middle of the jumbled together structures. The houses and homes looking raw and built with the mind of winter snows. Small herds of tamed animals hover about still wandering off into the forest to live rather than staying put. Smaller fields look sorry with the little yield they give. But, there is a certain security and prosperity about the village. Leather and furs tan, hunting weapons, and a fisher's tools can be seen in stages of making.

Elsewhere, waking in the dawn, a raven takes wing. The southern seas and oceans are warm and bountiful giving way to small tribes that had dared to claim land and form cities. To self-proclaimed councils and kings clashing against one another. Farms give excess, craftsmen are becoming more prevalent, iron is being forged. Life is easy among plains and forests yielding bounties of their own. and the rivers streaming from far away mountains. But ever as the raven flies the ocean turns to the north. It's waters becoming frigid and cold. There are few such bounties in this land. The North is a place of different hardships. Farming is only beginning to be viable as basins in the mountainsides are carved out. Most tribes still relying on hunting, gathering, and perhaps the ever-so cautious raid upon their southern neighbors. The mountains that keep some secluded against their eastern sea and the great forests within its fingers, grasping the small tribes to its shadow. Turning west, the mountains reach higher. Up there- this bird cannot go. For behind the great spires. A new plain lies- a glacier. The impassable plains of ice.

There is more danger than the North men know. To the east are another group of people. The desert folk are said to be ancient southern folk who were banished into the great plains, high cliffs, and deserts of the east. They come raiding, taking what they wish. The great glacier that carves the mountains protects the North from these folk. None would cross a blinding light, missing food, water, and fire.

This is the world of Dissansel. New in its time, it's not a world of simple labors. For among all it's people walk those with special abilities. Bards, as they are known in the south. Skalds or shamans in the north. They are regarded either as a blessing or a threat. But always with suspicion. They may control the very elements of nature but at a price.

Landing the raven, watches the village. Curious to see if life will unfurl her wings and fly with him. Or if it shall fall into the jaws of destruction once more.

---------------------------------------------------------

Starting in the village called Norn and the surrounding valley, then I'll start tossing a spiel of problems at you. You can choose to travel or remain in place or whatever! Let's see if anyone is interested.

It sounds really interesting but I am not going to lie I am a bit intimidated. The world is so raw, so new. I can definitely see the appeal but I think there are few players out there who are not willing to put the brain power and commitment to keep the RP alive. That being said. I will say I am interested. I will WIP on a character and run it by you.

@Omni5876 If I have only one person to work with, then I have one person to work with. If people don't mind that. Quality over quantity. Honestly, I know it's new and raw and people may not find that appealing to them, which is fair. However, I will openly admit if people cannot give me the brainpower and interest to keep a Roleplay moving then I don't want to be pouring in all the work as a GM for them. People who can engage my world and make me work to keep the world moving is what gives me pleasure.

My way of looking at it? It can be intimidating because there is no fandom to bounce off of. But it's very much the same to DnD where you can design a character to a world you may not know much about. I've Roleplayed a lot in worlds like this where you don't know much about the world, and you go into it not sure what to expect and build a story off that. Ask questions, dive into the unknown. Give me your all? And I'll give you every ounce of skill I have because while I run this world? I want you, my roleplayers, to enjoy discovering it.

I'm intrigued.

So could a singer be able to use healing? Be able to inspire and bolster others?

@Cyrania Correct me if I'm misunderstanding anything.

Potentially you could develop something like that. Magic is rough and in its infancy, meaning it can be shaped in different ways. You could sing someone to make them happy or sad, urge them to slip off to sleep, or curry their anger to a boiling point. But it takes focus and a fair bit of effort. With healing, you would need to know what herbs do, how to treat the wounds, set bones, and the magic you could have would amplify that and quicken the healing but taxing you with headaches and exhaustion.

You could learn to do both, but it would take a bit and would not be easy. Think of it like you are physically learning both without the magic aspect (which you would be doing since magic still needs physical aspect to work at the moment). You could become adept at both but it would take years and you would neglect your knowledge elsewhere. That being said, it sounds very interesting and reminds me of The Books of Pellinor by Alison Croggon. I would love to see a character who could pull that off!

@Omni5876 I'd need the personality filled in for the sake of it, but other than that I'd feel ready to toss him into the character tab once I get it up in a day or two. I need the quality, not the quantity, and you are quality! And I think I have a character your Arn Thorstun will find very interesting that roams about Norn.

@Cyrania What village is she from? Why is she at Norn? Does she live there? Who is her father? What sort of clothing does she wear? Also, I know you said her kin is unknown but while she could be originally from North or South, it would also note the culture she was raised in. The culture would affect how magic is viewed with it being a rarity and all.

Eleven years spent learning the art of healing (not the magic) means she would be very decent at that considering she spent so much time learning more from him earlier. The magic bit would make her better than most, and I like that bit there. Though I would note the more serious the injury the harder it is the Heal with magic. Healing something (Disease or broken bone) completely and not just speeding up the physical healing would leave her extremely weak as would a major disease if she was unused to her abilities. For future reference.

However the songs and singing. That would take intent and a great deal of it from her to do. It would not be easy and I would call it underdeveloped rather than 'weak'. Her falling asleep from her own songs is a bit off I will admit. I could see it having no effect, or giving her a headache perhaps from the focus, and a sore throat from the singing. But that's an opinion and I'll defer to you if you want her to fall asleep.

As for reading, is she from the Southerners? Is her father a noble? Because books are rare/nonexistent just about. Scrolls, messages, parchment is a thing but books are something kept to nobles and the churches. The Northerners don't really have any use for them as their tales are kept by wise men and women.

@Omni5876 Toss your CS in a hider, and when I say equipment I mean whatever you have on you. Furs you have to trade included. If you say you have it and its not listed in there, then you do not have it is my general rule of thumb.

does that mean that it will be a DnD type inventory? Like if I decide to pick up a rock, I add it to my inventory and it counts against my carry weight? I mean, I am all up for keeping track but will it be us or you updating our inventory when we gain or loose something.

that being said, will update my current equipage.

@Omni5876 Yes, after all it would be a bit ridiculous if you were carrying around an entire bear carcass for the entire day. Keeping the inventory updated will help keep my own mind straight on what people have.

I was thinking the healer was part of the village of Norn, so that she was born and raised there.

I'll edit the rest based on your input. I'm glad you overall like the character idea.

@CyraniaThat will work well, and I do love the character idea. I just iron out the kinks well so that we're on the same page. Was in an Rp where someone didn't do that and eesh, was it a nightmare!

I put the actual casual Rp up, and I'll be posting something to it tomorrow. I have the base down, I just need to clean up the details. The link is right there for people who want it.
