Here's another question for you all: What are you like IRL? How does it compare to how we see you on the internet? Which person do you like better? Which one is the real you?

I'll start....

[TL;DR]: I suppose major difference for me is that I am shy and standoffish in real life. And friendly and bubbly on the internet. Dread IRL interaction, love e-interaction.

So in real life, I am extremely quiet, and struggle to find words to say. Mostly I just smile, laugh, nod, and say stuff like "yeah" and "mmhm" to let you know I'm listening. I also apologize constantly, even to the point of saying sorry for saying sorry. Don't swear, don't drink, dont smoke, dont say dirty words, ever. Also have no poker face. I'm also an pacifist and nonconfrontational so I'm a bit of a punching bag. Couldn't hurt a fly. And when my friends try to dare me "hit" them, I always miss at the last second because I just can't do it. They affectionately refer to these as "airplane punches".

I have a very difficult time remembering names and faces. And only have like one IRL friend, although I tend to get along with all my coworkers. To be honest, I tend to avoid people who are overly friendly with me and avoid "hanging out" and dread social events like parties and Secret Santa. I would rather be left alone and read it make art. But when I am forced to interact with people, I try to be positive and kind and supportive. I blush and get embarrassed easily so people like to poke fun and make dirty jokes sltobsee how red I get. My schoolmates and coworkers usually call me the "innocent one" "nice one," and "reliable one".

When I'm the internet, I can be very bubbly and excitable and friendly. I wear my heart on my sleeve and I'm a bit of an open book. Love to just chat with and get to know and be friends with everybody.=] But I get lonely so easily.

I really wish I could be more friendly in person, but I probably have a mild case of anthropophobia. And misanthropy sometimes.

So what about you guys?

I'm pretty similar, though I'm probably a bit snarkier and more prone to making jokes IRL. I think my major difference of how I act is whether I am at work or not. When I'm working I'm quiet and focused (unless I'm having a bad/stressful day then I'll likely talk to myself for some reason) whereas if I'm with someone and I'm comfortable with them I'll talk and joke.

IRL, I'm fairly reserved and introverted. I hate crowds (I need alcohol to get through family gatherings, but I doubt that's unique to me), and talking for too long actually emotionally drains me. It's difficult for me to speak for multiple reasons. I like laughing and joking around, but I only do that with people I trust.

Online? Everything I repress comes out. I enjoy trolling (though I am very aware of lines that shouldn't be crossed), especially my friends.

Suffice to say that if any of my internet friends met me IRL they'd be surprised at the difference. I'd say the same about the vice versa, but that would require IRL friends.

Well I guess you could say I'm a misanthrope and a bit asocial because I don't like making new friends because I have lost friends due to my actions and words IRL even though its unintentional. I'm like trying to be funny here and make light of things. I would say I like Internet me rather than myself IRL.

IRL: I legitimately have no friends because everyone around me is in to everything that’s illegal, or they’re just genuinely awful people and I would much rather have loneliness than get in trouble, this is why I don’t have other social media’s, to make any form of loneliness tolerable. If someone meets me irl, I will know within the first 15 minutes whether I genuinely like you or not, if I don’t, you will never hear from me again, I don’t like being with people who are the “I need someone hanging out with me 24/7.” Type because I will grow exhausted and sleep longer than what’s healthy when I am alone again. In short IRL, I’m the biggest recluse ever and have it as a defense mechanism

Online: I try to make friends but....I feel like everyone who speaks to me OOC hates me so I don’t do a lot of ooc action, even on other platforms in the past I’ve felt that way because in other hobby forums I’d ask for help with something and get absolutely nothing like I wasn’t there so I’ve just become a phantom with my online presence, I’ll start PM threads but...unless I can feel like that person will be welcoming to my chatter, hyper fixated or not, I won’t say anything about anything ooc

You mean like you get stuck on one topic and that topic alone and just talk about it for ever and analyze it until you break it down to atoms and than you break those into smaller particles until you get conversational fission? Or am I getting this wrong?

And that is a ... bad thing? Like there are entire youtube channels that make a living doing that. Plus, depending on the topic that sort of thing can actually be quite fun. Than again, you are talking to the guy who in order to design a hand drawing of a starship for a space opera RP ended up with several speadsheets worth of crew complement calculations and other stuff to culminate in a series of 3D models used as reference to see how much internal volume needs to be dedicated to crew transportation tunnels in order to figure out how much room I'd need to use for the air ducts and if they could fit in the rounded corners of each tunnel and how to make them crawl proof...

Oh, and than there is my current project which is making a 3D model of a made up tank that is supposed to be "plausible" down to the positions of the screws.

I guess what I am saying is that this sort of thing can actually be quite fun just as long as you learn to compartmentalize it.

Have you considered a carrier in software development by the way? :)

I don’t have the patience for IT/Computer Science, but most of my rp’s are influenced by certain books and things or are full fandom so I don’t think spreadsheets detailing things would be a good idea unless it’s my own personal Oc’s then I already have extensive profiles for them

Point is, I think that discussing something right down to the finest of details, should be quite fun if I had someone else to chat with about it. So I don't see a problem. If anything you just haven't run into the right person, is all.

Like in my example I used to love nation RP's for their worldbuilding aspect. But people tend to turn it into a game of civilization instead. Give me one of those, a free hand and some time and I could spend literally days making up and talking about the worldbuilding of a setting I am making up right down to silly little things about their stance about cookery, made up myths and legends or why that particular village is called "twin mounds on the lady". But I newer ran into anyone who would be interested in striking up such a conversation with me. Everyone just wants to know what happens next. And so the actual games just newer ever give you the chance to express all those ideas and concepts. So I can perfectly relate to you. If anything I wish I had someone like you in one of my old games. The OOC chat would have been something to behold.

Can't be worse than mine.

Also, in case you are wondering the name comes from the fact it's on a river called "the White Lady" thanks to an ancient myth that talks about how in the ancient past during a great drought (which appears in other regional myths lending credence to there being a great drought at some point) a beautiful white lady traveled to the northern mountains in search of water spirits. But all she found at its peaks were cold spirits of ice. Still, one of those fell for her and agreed to follow her to her homeland if she would become his. So she lead him all the way south and east until they reached the great sea. And where they passed he melted leaving behind the great river. Eventually they reached the sea and threw them self into it thus becoming one and turning her into the river spirit. And of the union were born two princes who would become rulers of her people. And it is said that they are the ones buried in the two bronze age burial mounds that the city was named after.

And by the way, this is all in a modern age no magic game where all of this is irrelevant. And the only reason the city was mentioned at all is because there was a tank battle to be held in the nearby village of "lower shrub". So naturally I newer had an excuse to post any of it nobody ever found out about it all.

So I guess what I am asking is how you feel about worldbuilding?

You can pop in to my PM if you want just so you know, but I can tell when it’s lazy world building if it’s obvious focalization on characters as opposed to their world which needs most of the work and they just need good old classic character development and I can also tell when the world building is way overwhelming (thank you Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo)

I meant more along the lines of if you like doing it your self. In particular if you can get as excited about creating worlds and talking about them as I can. Because if yes... well that would be something indeed.

Too bad. I've been looking for someone who could get as much into worldbuilding as I can for ages. Like just being able to craft a universe together with someone and spend endless hours analyzing it and finding new details to fit into the greater story would be amazing.

Still, if you ever feel like chatting send me a message and we'll see if we can find some common thing we both like to talk about.
