RAPHAEL SOHMA
An ancestor of the Sohma family, Raphael is an immortal supernatural being who used to work as an attendant for the master of the Velvet Room, Milton, alongside his brother Michael. One day he fell in love with a human, Iris Sohma, and he ran away from the Velvet Room to be with her. Milton was angered by Raphael's betrayal and cursed him, Iris, and their descendants. Iris was turned into a cursed spirit doomed to wander the earth, Raphael was stripped of most of his powers and forced to live the rest of his immortal life away from his family, and their descendants were cursed to turn into animals whenever they initiated intimate physical contact.The curse on the Sohma family was meant to make it harder for them to reproduce and eventually cause them to die out, but to Milton's irritation the family managed to survive and even became one of the most influential in the country. As generations have passed and the family forgot why they are cursed, the cursed members became known as the Zodiac.

Raphael's curse makes it impossible for him to be near any of his descendants, so he roams the world looking for a way to break the curse. Raphael will try to ruin any of Milton's plans and in the past he has interfered with Velvet Room guests, such as when he joined a pirate crew who wanted to fight a werewolf Milton had been helping. Present day, he is investigating the Dark Hour the occurs in Japan because he is intrigued by the shadows and personas, and he has a feeling that Milton is involved with the strange occurence.


IRIS SOHMA
An ancestor of the Sohma family, Iris was a human priestess from Japan who was a guest of the Velvet room alongside her sister. She eventually eloped with one of the room's attendants, Raphael, but their happiness was cut short when Milton cursed them out of anger towards her husband. She was cursed to become a wandering spirit and Iris forgot everything she ever knew, and all that was left was a frightening spirit that people eventually named Ju-on. Ju-on is attracted to beautiful men and she follows them around, but only because some part of Iris survived and she subconsciously searches for Raphael.

Only Iris and Raphael's direct descendants have a chance of being born cursed, so any Sohma descended from Iris' sister wont be cursed.

SAIYURI SOHMA
24 years old

Saiyuri is the temperamental leader of the Sohma family. While the other members of the zodiac are cursed with animals, Saiyuri is representation of the God which places her in charge of the 13 members. Whatever she says is basically their 'law', but not not everyone follows as they should, which usually leads to punishment. She lives on the family's main estate and hardly ever leaves it's grounds. She was born with a rare skin disease that makes her skin burn whenever the sun touches it. This leaves her to wear long sleeves, dresses, and mittens whenever she has to leave the house, accompanied with a variety of hats. She is also very sickly and frail due to another illness so she always has a doctor on hand in the estate. She only leaves the estate for important matters and just calls the zodiac members to her if she needs to speak with them.


SAIYUKI SOHMA
24 years old

The twin brother of Saiyuri and the second leader of the Sohma family. He only appears during special occasions because he currently lives in England. He moved there during his high school years and after he graduated, he continued to stay there. He is very disinterested in the Zodiac and their problems, but he's much kinder than his twin sister by far. He doesn't share her illnesses and is actually very athletic.

Mitsuru is the husband of Seijuro and the adoptive father of Adeku. When he was younger he used to be depressed because of his curse and was desperate to find something about him that wasn't horrible. Eventually, he and the only other zodiac member at the time began to rely on each other. Mitsuru started to trust Seijuro and his trust eventually blossomed into love. They were married in their early twenties and finally Mitsuru was happy.

When Seijuro's sister didn't want her son because he was cursed, he and his husband jumped at the chance to adopt him. As time passed, he started to develop a more down to earth personality. He makes sure to keep Seijuro in line, especially when he shows off Adeku's pictures to everybody. They live seven houses away from Daisuke and stay at his house whenever Seijuro forgets to pay the electricity bill. When they are at his house, they cook for him and the rest of the family members who happen to be there that day.

ADEKU SOHMA

Ox of the zodiac

When Adeku was born, his mother was appalled that he was cursed and refused to raise him. He was given to his mother's brother, Seijuro, and his husband Mitsuru to be taken care of. They were both cursed members of the family so they knew how to relate and they were overjoyed at the thought of raising a child.

Adeku grew up happily with his adoptive fathers and he has a love for fashion. He takes his appearance seriously and can spend hours in front of a mirror before he feels ready to step outside his room. Because he is the ox he is stronger than he looks and he can also stomach strange foods, which is good because he always eats weird combinations of food such as salads with hot sauce.

DAISUKE SOHMA
26 years old

Dog of the zodiac

Daisuke was raised by a teenage mother after his father left her. His real father went off and married some other woman and had a family with her, so he got his mother's last name; Sohma. Even though he would turn into a dog every time his mother held him, it didn't stop her from loving him and raising him right. When daisuke was five, his mother remarried and had another child with her new husband a few years later. His brother isn't cursed and the two get along fairly well.

Daisuke is one of the nicest members of the family and he is known for his kindness, not just with them, but within the neighborhood as well. His house is the usual meeting place for the rest of his family, but Daisuke doesn't mind. While his house is small, his heart is huge and he won't turn someone away who needs a home and will sooner move out himself than refuse someone a place to sleep. He is best friends with his cousin Touya and has unlimited respect for his older relatives Mitsuru and Seijuro. He even gets along with Saiyuri the most, him being her favorite of the group.

GIIMA SOHMA

Rat of the zodiac

Giima and his father were abandoned by his mother when he was just a baby, so the only thing he has of her is an old picture his dad gave him. His father treated him like a normal child, although he was slightly overprotective if Giima went anywhere near a girl. However, his father had to leave the country to take care of a dying relative but Saiyuri would not let Giima leave, so he was sent to live with Daisuke instead. Giima was initially wary of him because he was the dog, but his friendliness helped Giima warm up to him quickly. However is afraid of Hiroki and Touya, the cat and snake, but while he tries to avoid Touya as much as possible, Giima can't help but lash out at Hiroki. The curse as the rat makes him irrationally despise the cat and he thinks Hiroki is the worst member of the zodiac.

Because mice are nocturnal creatures, Giima enjoys taking long walks at night and absolutely hates the mornings. His eyesight is poor so he wears contacts, but his senses of smell and hearing are better than normal humans. He also likes closed spaces and it is common to see him bundled up in a large nest of blankets. His best friend is Natsuki Kirijo, who likes to pretend he is a superhero named splendidSTAR, and is one of the few noncursed people who he is friends with, though Natsuki has no idea about Giima's curse.

HIROKI SOHMA
17 years old

Cat of the zodiac

Hiroki is thirteenth member of the zodiac and is the cat. His mother had complications in childbirth and died shortly afterwards. His father is a very important businessman and is usually overseas, which left Hiroki to be raised by a nanny. When Hiroki's nanny retired when he was thirteen, his uncle from his father's side stepped in and took custody of him. He was much better guardian than a nanny and taught Hiroki everything he needed to know about life. However, three years later when Hiroki was sixteen, his uncle was diagnosed with cancer and moved to America for treatment. Saiyuri refused to let Hiroki follow him and made him stay in Japan. His uncle died not long afterwards, leaving Hiroki alone once again. With no one to take him in, Daisuke appeared and offered him the spare room in his house.

Because of the neglect from his father and the death of his uncle, Hiroki has become closed off and doesn't get close to others out of fear that they will eventually leave him. He still isn't over the recent death of his uncle and is still angsting over him. For the most part he stays silent and keeps to himself, but whenever Giima is involved, a fight breaks out.

TOUYA SOHMA 27 years old Snake of the zodiac Touya's parents hated him and the feeling was mutual, so he grew up with constant anger and developed a distrust for anybody who was not a member of the zodiac like he was. He despises most people and cares only about the other zodiac members, with the exception of Saiyuri, whom he loathes almost as much as he detests outsiders. Since he has no idea how the curse can be broken, Touya is protective of the zodiac members and his top priority is to keep the secret from being exposed. He is an intimidating man who rarely shows affection, but he does have his soft spots and he doesn't like it when those he cares for are hurt. His best friend is Daisuke, even though their personalities are so different, and to this day he visits him daily. When he was 20 Touya fell in love with a girl named Maki Kuromu, who was comically a snake charmer for a travelling circus. She was the first outsider he learned to trust and she accepted him despite the curse, which made Touya love her even more. He married her against Saiyuri's wishes and lived off of the estate for awhile until she died in a car accident three years ago. After her death he sold their old house and moved into Daisuke's home for a few months until he felt okay enough to live on his own again. A year later Touya discovered Hayato was being abused by his parents after hearing him crying due to a window being open. Angered that a child was being hurt, especially a member of the zodiac, like a predator seeking it's prey he barged into the house and knocked out Hayato's parents before carrying Hayato away to safety. After Tamaki arrested them and Hayato was nursed back to health by Shou, Touya became Hayato's official guardian because Hayato was scared of everyone besides Touya, since he remember Touya saving him. Touya was hesitant to become a father figure, but he wasn't just about to abandon him, so he agreed. Like a newborn chick imprinting on it's mother, Hayato became extremely attached to him and for the first few months followed Touya everywhere he went. Eventually Hayato started to feel comfortable around other people, especially zodiac members, so Touya started paying Adeku to babysit him whenever he was busy. Touya hates cooking and can barely work anything in the kitchen, so he and Hayato usually go to Daisuke's house to eat.

HIMAWARI SOHMA 18 years old Horse of the zodiac Himawari was raised lovingly by her energetic father and a hippie mother. They named her after a sunflower because when she was born, she had bright yellow hair, which slowly began to change into black as she got older. At first, they didn't realize their daughter was cursed because the doctor had been a woman and her mother held her first, but when her father held her, she turned into a horse. It was hard on them at first, but they managed and filled their household with nothing but love. sShe enjoys working out and is the fastest member on the cross country team. She attends the same school as Giima and Hiroki and lives at home with her parents.

HAYATO SOHMA
10 years old
Rooster of the zodiac

Hayato's father cared for him despite him being cursed and paid extra attention to Hayato, especially when he was a baby. His mother, on the other hand, hated Hayato because he took his father's attention away from her. She would hit him whenever he cried or did something wrong, and whenever she was really mad, she would hug him to turn him into a chick and threaten to throw Hayato into the oven. This only happened when his father was at work and Hayato thought he deserved his treatment, so his father had no idea about Hayato's abuse. However, Hayato was not safe from his father either. His father had a mental condition that made him hear voices. They told him that he should beat the curse out of Hayato so that he could be cured and have a normal life. He tried to ignore the voices at first but in the end he gave in and would hurt Hayato too, because he was convinced that in the end the pain would be worth it if Hayato would be saved.

The abuse was daily for Hayato until Touya discovered the truth and rescued him. His mother was sent to prison while his father was sent to a psychiatric hospital, so Hayato asked Touya if he could stay with him. Touya agreed and Hayato has lived with him ever since. Hayato has nightmares and he is afraid of physical contact because of the hugs his mom used to give him, but he is slowly feeling comfortable and less shy around the other zodiac members. As for outsiders, especially because he has observed how Touya hates them, Hayato is afraid of them and won't speak to them if he can help it.

His favorite food is french fries and he likes to play with all types of birds, not just other roosters.

REIKO SOHMA
16 years old
Boar of the zodiac

Reiko is a social girl who loves being around groups of people. She is quick to speak her mind and is fairly nice to others, but she won't hesitate to defend herself or others if she notices any wrongdoing. She tends to cling towards other people and cherishes any attention she gets, mostly because she gets no attention at home.

Reiko is ignored by her parents due to her being born cursed. They both had high hopes for her to be successful in her future, but thanks to the curse her parents lost faith in her. They think of her as a financial inconvenience and because of their neglect towards her any interaction between them is awkward. Her parents want to love her, but out of shame can't bring themselves to love a cursed child.

Reiko tries to stay fit so she exercises often, mostly because she apsires to be like her mom. Her mother is a model and one of the few positive interactions they have is when she passes Reiko her old clothes, but a lot of the time her mom is quick to point out any flaws in her appearance. Reiko has an unhealthy obsession of wanting to look cute and panics at the thought of gaining weight.

MASASHI SOHMA 16 years old Monkey of the zodiac Masashi is a quiet boy and doesn't talk very much. His mother was saddened by the fact that her son was a part of the zodiac, and she still hasn't gotten over it. To this very day, she mopes around the house, barely acknowledging her son's presence, but Masashi still makes her food and cleans the house. His father is out working alot, so he is hardly ever home. In his free time he likes to hang out with Adeku and Hayato, although Adeku can be overwhelming sometimes and envies them for having such good people taking care of them.

RYOHEI SOHMA
24 years old

Dragon of the Zodiac

Ryohei is the dragon of the zodiac and he is one of the most dangerous to transform because to normal humans, dragons are mythological creatures. As a child he was kept confined to his room by his parents, with only his twin brother Tamaki allowed to visit him. As a result, his social skills are horrible and he has trouble understanding basic human behavior and his common sense is nearly nonexistent. He is very naive and becomes happy at simple things, and is very curious about learning new things. He adores Saiyuri solely due to the fact that she is his god and will gladly do anything she says, although he usually misunderstands her and other people's demands so his brother will have to clean up his messes. He has a very close relationship with his brother and Tamaki is very protective of him, joining the police force for the sole reason of personally arresting their parents out of revenge for their treatment of Ryohei. He now lives with his brother and he likes to roam freely outside to enjoy nature, but Ryohei dislikes leaving the estate grounds on his own and never wanders too far from home.

TAMAKI SOHMA
24 years old

Tamaki is the twin brother of Ryohei, the dragon of the zodiac. His brother was confined to their room, which angered Tamaki greatly after he understood that it was cruel to lock Ryohei away. Growing up Tamaki let nothing stop him from hanging out with his brother and he was often at odds with their parents, usually causing arguments over their treatment of Ryohei. He also discovered that he had the traditional ability of the dragon, a memory erasing technique, and studied documents left by previous family members who had the ability in order to learn to control it. After discovering that the dragon of the zodiac was supposed to be born with his memory power, Tamaki began to believe that he was the one who was supposed to have been born cursed and his brother's suffering was his fault. His protectiveness rose even more and he spent most of his youth devoted to helping his brother. As soon as they were legally old enough Tamaki moved him and Ryohei out of the house. He then studied to become a police officer and once he achieved that goal, Tamaki himself arrested his parents for abuse. Now that he is older and his parents are out of the way, his protectiveness has extended to the other zodiac members and he is willing to help out any of them. He arrested Hayato's parents after discovering their physical abuse and Tamaki has often had to erase the memory of people who discover the curse.

His best friend is Jin Sohma, one of his many relatives, and they hang out whenever possible. Jin works for a mysterious organization that he won't mention to Tamaki about and to his bewilderment, Jin often comes home with strange inventions. Many times Jin gives some inventions to Tamaki, like a jetpack that Jin created, and Tamaki learned years ago to not bother asking how or why he has such things.

TAPIOCO

A mysterious duck that barged through Daisuke's window one day. While the duck may look normal, he is anything but. Tapioco's true identity is Lucifel, the missing demon prince of hell, who was cursed into a duck form by a wizard he had been arguing with. Unaware that the demons are searching for him, Lucifel began thinking of himself as "Tapioco" out of paranoia of potential mind-reading enemies. He is determined to find his way to break the curse and return on his own, not wanting any demons to see him in this embarrassing form. He sensed other cursed animals while flying through the sky, which is how he ended up with Daisuke, and believes observing them may help him break his own curse.

MINATO SOHMA

22 years old

Sheep of the zodiac

Minato is a member of the zodiac, but he is also an international popstar who goes by the name Lovi Sky. He rose to stardom a few years ago and shares a friendly rivalry with fellow popstar Kyoya Legacy who debuted around the same time he did. He is the family member with the most freedom from Saiyuri's tyranny and is allowed to live life at his own pace. Due to his popularity, he rarely has any free time, but when he does, he stays at Daisuke's house to relax. He can't be intimate with any girls because of his family curse and has to be careful around his fans.

SHOU SOHMA 33 years old Shou is one of the many Sohma family doctors. He isn't cursed, but he knows about the zodiac and is the main doctor for all of the cursed members. While growing up, he and Kotetsu were best friends and they were fabulous together. But even though Kotetsu has calmed down because of parenthood, Shou remains true to himself and is still as amazing as he was fifteen years ago.

TAICHI ISHIDA was 39 when he died He was Hiroki's guardian, saving him from his outraged mother and disappointed father and giving him a good home. But try as he might, he couldn't completely shield his son away from the sohma family, Saiyuri especially. He tried to teach Hiroki love and compassion, but the message didn't seep in for the bitter child. When hiroki was sixteen Taichi began to get sick and moved to America for treatment. Hiroki went with him for support until Saiyuri ordered him to come back to Japan. They kept in touch still with letters and webcam, but a few months later, Taichi died of cancer. Hiroki was outraged that he wasn't there with him in his final moments and holds a grudge against Saiyuri because of it. Taichi is the reason for most of Hiroki's angst.
