Looks good so far, and I like the setup. One thing that came to mind as I read the background was an idea from a novel I read a while back. Maybe because some research is forbidden or restricted for ethical or religious reasons, some third-world (or former third-world) governments let them operate on their soil in exchange for investment in their infrastructure and economy, leading to development of some more 'cutting edge' stuff, like designer viruses, genetic research, cybernetics, etc. Nothing too out there (like, certainly not super-powers or anything), but definitely another avenue of bad guys and threats to deal with.

The only thing I'm not so keen on is the design for the suits, haha. My mental picture was more like - but not exactly - the Madox-01 from the anime of the same name. Something with weapons that are modular, but built in. Also I just prefer the look, haha.

All sounds good otherwise though, definitely what I was thinking as far as weapons went more or less too. I'll have a think about a character too. Might go with a female character a bit like Cat from Silent Line, as I enjoyed her a lot

I like the story idea! I might weave something in. As for the armour, we could propose they come from different projects- I can't say I'm the same but yeah, you got the right idea!

Haha, looking to seeing what you come up with! I should finish the setup tonight and have my character nearly done

I was going to suggest the idea that they came from different projects, or different stages of the program too, then we can tailor them to our own liking, while keeping them similar enough that it doesn't seem too broken or out of place that they shouldn't be part of the same setting :)
Going to work on my character a bit over the evening too and put something up. Will spec up the armour as well.

Ah splendid! In honesty, the version I'd like my character to have uses that picture as a base, but it won't be as squared-off, but a little more fluid and a bit more adapted.

Edited the desc a bit more.

Got mine up, hopefully it'll be all right and in line with what you were thinking. I might have gone a bit overboard with the suit, and I realise it doesn't match up to the template you posted, but I was working on it at the same time.
No idea for an image for my character either; guess we'll have to use imagination for the meantime xD

Character sounds awesome! Gabriella I like lots. She reminds me of sort of Cat and Anna!

That said, and I really hate to be a killjoy because I really love the suit setup, but I think it's a teeny bit too far in terms of a couple of bits. Vertical/horizontal flight is a little too far (though funnily enough, on my radar for something- I really want to actually have jump/buffer jets in eventually, but not immediately to give a feeling of how the tech develops). Happy for it to have heavier weaponry at the cost of speed compared to the base (as a more modular setup), but just keep in mind the exos aren't full blown mechs...well, not yet :) I can certainly see the Stormhound being a heavier variant of the Firehound, which works very nicely- I'll have my char finished soon enough! I hope I don't sound too much like a fun destroyer just with regards to the setting/theme (though trust me, you're gonna get a chance to really flex that!)- I actually adore the detail you put in and I might even pinch some myself, as that was exactly where I wanted to go, but just wanted to not stray too far into mech territory for the moment being!

Got a lot of inspiration for this setting from a really old PS3 game called "MAG" that came out- focussing on large scale infantry fights and PMCs (though it died). It always had a bit of a unqiue identity to it, made by the guys who made SOCOM, funnily enough haha.

I do want to throw some more exotic stuff in there, but the idea is to slowly dial up the type of equipment that our two have access to- I've got some very interesting curveballs on combat scenarios and warfighting that our two will get into. I can see them meshing quite nicely- almost putting Tobias as the more assaulting, head-on type operative while Gabi is able to lay down a lot more heavy firepower. Of course, what comes with this kind of setting is a little bit of crazy- so it'll be fun to embrace a little!

I'm glad you like her, once I hit upon the background for her, she came together really well and really quickly. Going for a law enforcement/paramilitary background made a nice change as well from a pure military one.

Regarding the suit, that's fair enough, although I did try and stress that it's not full flight or even jumpjets, but instead more of a 'powered skating'/hovercraft type deal, where it generates its' own air cushion to move faster on the ground, rather than any kind of full flight capability of any kind. Again, something to build up to as you suggest - though I can't imagine what the suit would look like without the intakes/engines and wings...! a lot smaller I suppose.
Re: the weapons as well, sure; I tried to keep things in the middle sort of ground, without going up to anything too large. I may change the Hellfires for a pair of shoulder-launched ATGMs instead (Javelins or something), and drop the 4-pack of 70mm rockets, as the recoilless is more-or-less the same anyway. Everything else looks all right imo. I see the 20mm as being essentially an anti-materiel rifle on a powered mount and used for sniping and the same kind of things as anti-materiel rifles are already used for. There already are 20mm AMRs around, so it seemed like a good fit for one of the largest things it carries.

Oh definitely- she's got a unique flavour and I could see her being a great femme fatale, someone you don't fuck with.

All in good time good sir- just as it might be something I want to warm up to, got a bit of a cunning plan- it'd be a bit smaller but already 8ft high :) Weapons wise I'm happy, those can work either way- it could be used for more specialist work tbh, lightening and going heavy as and when.

Awesome stuff- that CS of yours looks amazing! I'm gonna put the final polishing touches on my CS and kick us straight into something, straight into the thick of it. There's a little more worldbuilding I'm going to put in, but I actually want to remain specifically vague- what I love the idea of is that a lot of this just isn't known to the public, so it doesn't feel like some massively different world to ours.

As for shoulder-mounted munitions, one that Big proposed in one of our RPs (ironically, these suits in that RP were used by actual giants, so yeah, people over seven foot!) for one of his chars was the use of a mini-missile system, so something that was able to be loaded with specific or multipurpose munitions that could defeat Trophy systems and get into entrenched positions- not a huge dakka but enough of those can stop a tank or kill a bunker. Shoulder mounted ATGMs sounds about right- after all, the suit can handle the launches so it's just about having a launch tube!

Edit- Post is up, gonna usually stick to a three-paragraph limit but thought I'd introduce the first op with a bit of a leap of a literal kind! I love the idea of playing with warzones most military RPs see- so Papua New Guinea seems to me like a bit of a natural fit. It's not going to explore all the themes of our operators in this world, but begin to slowly open the lid!

Glad you like the sheet; I tried to keep it looking nice as well as having all the info on it - makes it easier to see what's there :)

Definitely like the idea of - to borrow term from an old TTRPG - the 'masquerade' being in effect so that Joe Public isn't really aware of anything. Although, I do like the idea as with all of these things that there's probably a few conspiracy nutjobs out there who are closer to the truth than they realise... and just as equally, there's an office somewhere in a big intelligence agency that deliberately posts messages to fuel the fire and at the same time send them off on random tangents.

With you on the ATGMs, the mini-missiles aren't a million miles from reality anyway; smart munitions are getting smaller and more precise seemingly every day, especially with things like the XM25 being a reality. With the Shoulder-launched Hellfires, Stinger and APKWS I was basically envisaging them as a tube with the missile/rockets in that's ejected or discarded once they're used.
With the recoilless, I'm basically thinking of a carousel-fed Carl Gustav, with a few different types of munitions ready to go. Again, enough of them can kill armour, but mostly they're for breaching, or taking out large or hardened targets and positions, or groups of hostiles.

Will take a read over of the post and get something up later today!

Haha, yep I'm gonna sort out Tobias's a bit more as I feel it's a little spread all over- annoyingly this is what comes with not having a standard template!

Yeah, there's something to that extent I would argue- there is some stuff that is blaringly obvious, but it's the idea like you said that it's not really known to many. It's a "Shadow War"- while the world's geopolitics still remains and an army will always trump a PMC, they are now escalating a bit more than ever before.

Pretty much what I was thinking- Hellfires/Stingers could be more dedicated larger-scale weapons systems, the mini-missiles in my mind were more as a general-purpose, easier to carry system for when you don't know what the main threat is. A Carl Gustav would work rather wonders- I never really thought of that much but like it!

Yeah, it seemed like a perfect fit to me, and recoilless rifles tend to get overlooked pretty easily.
I think Gabby's loadout for this one will be a recoilless on one shoulder and the grenade launcher on the other, M134 and shotgun on the arms, and the CBJ's as sidearms. Something for every occasion.

Oooh lovely! Forgot about the CBJ- the Swedish Uzi, doesn't get enough look in.

Random question- does Gabby use a callsign, or is Stormhound good enough? I feel like I've added far too many callsigns to things...

Yes! I came across it years ago in one of those tiddly little 'pocket' reference books I had acquired from somewhere. At the time I didn't know much about firearms etc, but now I'm a bit older I looked it up again, and it's a pretty neat little gun. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to use it.

And good thought; I actually completely overlooked it so far. I'll have a think and see what I can come up with - something in hebrew would be cool; I'll get to work with Google translate, lol.

Edit: I did a bit of looking, and Duner works - it's 'Thunder' in Yiddish. It sounds badass, but I have an amusing explanation why she's actually called that which can come out at some point too.

Yup, it's in BF4 as well I believe- low recoil, low fire rate high capacity SMG, very much like an Uzi!

Ah lovely- a nice name to have, looking forward to seeing how that gets explained out later down the line!

I think you're imagining the Stormhound to be much bigger than I am - it's definitely bigger than person size, but still more of a powered armour than a mini-mech. I'm imagining it at the same size as the machine I based its' appearance on, the MADOX-01 from the anime of the same name.

Large powered armour size, for sure; like a 40K space marine. Incredible Hulk sized, or some other similarly large individual. Large enough to go indoors too, in big buildings. Especially if you're not concerned about collateral damage too much.

A mini-mech to me would be more like something of this size:

Coincidentally, about the same size as a GEAR was/is meant to be.

Will get a post up shortly too.

Ah useful to know! Of course, I was thinking it was around 8 foot or so tall- definitely not as big as the ones at the bottom!

That was an epic post- you definitely had an indulgence there writing it, that I can tell!

(edit)

@Silverwind Blade

Sorry for the triplicate- but are you happy for me to give us a a timeskip after your next post? I want to cut back to them back in the UK, and run a little bit to explore their characters a bit more- kinda like some of the stuff in GEARS we had.....but set in Bracknell (what can I say, it's a very strange sense of humour I have when it comes to settings :P )
