The Darkest Night

Long ago the realms experienced the darkest night. A cultivator delved into the dark arts seeking immortality and as such discovered the existence of different realms. The cultivator was intrigued and wanted to rule over all realms in existence. He realized his power alone was not enough, but there was a legend of a great power that resided in the souls of the living. The cultivator did the unthinkable and began ripping the souls from the bodies of the living, but the side effects of having their souls removed were something the cultivator didn't expect. They became twisted servants, flesh-eating monstrosities. This intrigued the cultivator and with each soul he collected, he came closer to achieving great power. The last step was to combine the souls and create the Soul Gem. Though the soul gem was created, the cultivator was defeated by those from various Sects who had vowed to keep the world, even other realms, safe. After defeating the dark cultivator, the soul gem was taken to the far ends of the Earth, never to be seen again.

That was long ago, and the story was told through generations; however, many just thought it to be a simple tale to motivate fighters for a great cause. Only the Sect Leaders have become aware that someone is looking for the Soul Gem. Someone wants to resurrect that which is dead and bring about the darkest night once again. Will you stop them, or help them achieve their goal?

Rules:
1) Adhere to the rules of RolePlayerGuild
2) Adhere to the rules set forth by the GM of this story (Winds of Fate)
3) Respect one another and remember it's okay to have a conversation/discussion.
4) This RP is 18+, which means romance is encouraged to promote character interaction and growth, but anything beyond kissing should be faded to black in the story. You may continue the scene through PM if you so choose to do so you naughty devils you.
5) If you have questions, ASK. If you are confused about something, please ASK.
6) The GM reserves the right to modify the rules at any time. The GM must approve characters before they can be moved to the Character tab and before the writer may commence writing in the IC tab.
7) You know your character well, you know what works and what doesn't. Don't leave me in the dark with your character. I don't want to have to be that GM that has to make decisions for you.
8) I want you as the writer to drive this story with your characters. Yes, it is my original story, but it has been formatted so that it can be character-driven. Any major decisions/plot ideas should be approved first.

Popping in to save a slot! As mentioned in the PM discussion I'll wait until some other characters have been made so I can adjust mine accordingly, since he was originally made for a different thing. If any other players are trying to avoid "overlap," my guy was basically gonna be a jian swordsman with a style that revolves around drifting footwork, high speed attacks, and focus on deflection/parrying instead of blocking. So more of a quickdraw/evasive style of swordsmanship.

Sweet. Now I just gotta pick a fighting style I wanna use.

What tier of power are you looking for in this RP? Wuxia can range from fairly grounded like Hero to crater-making Buddhist Palms like Kung Fu Hustle.

Power levels are roughly the same for each character, though some characters will naturally be stronger than others and vice versa. In terms of tier, there really isn't a tier here, but one thing is for certain. A character cannot be a deity/god. They may have the bloodline of a deity within them, like my character, but in terms of a fight, he has to rely on his skill.

Be within reason.

Inspiration for your character can come from stories like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero, The Seven Swords, The Untamed, Ying Yang Master: Dream of Eternity, and Heaven's Official Blessing.

I'm only familiar with the first three of those (though I didn't watch Seven Swords in its entirety), but does this mean that things will be more along the lines of exaggerated, but still relatively human feats? Will things like energy blasts, flying swords, ground-stomping earthquakes, and so forth not be featured?
