Well, there were apologies, which were a good start. Isla glanced at Arlo with a bit of concern as the situation played out with his similar-looking companion, a relative perhaps? She swore she saw the gal earlier, and with Arlo's antics it wasn't hard to remember that this was the sea-sick lass she'd seen earlier. Poor girl seemed to be a little grumpy, with the sickness and all, and a bit of sibling spite got that sickness thrown back in her face. She wondered just what they could be disputing, but didn't want to pry: Wasn't her place as the gal ran off to hurl, or at least that was Isla's own assumption.

Carrying on from that, she squinted her eyes as Ferris performed the most pure example of a 180 she'd ever seen in her life, his quips turning to apologies and attempting to make amends. Her expression lightened as he continued, feeling he hadn't done much that bad, so she wasn't about to shove him off the boat or anything. If this group was going to manage they'd need to get along, so if he'd pull the remarks back a bit to not prod Felix's now recovering temper they'd probably make it through this. She offered him a small nod as he took his leave, knowing it was time to start thinking about departure.

"Well, glad that was settled without an issue." Isla commented, releasing a long drawn breathe of relief at the situation. She wasn't sure who all was ready, but she sure was. Shifting her arm to adjust her bag, she looked at the remaining crew with a smile. "Well, I'll be seeing ye lads n' lass up the road. I'm ready to put foot't'soil again!" Feet meeting plank, she began her descent from the upper deck with a wave from her sunhat back in her hand, adding: "Don't ya worry though, won't run off far! Jus' gonna get some directions t' that office!"

As she made her way to disembark, she threw away her now empty bottle of Pocari Sweat along with her sunhat, allowing her ginger hair to flow free. The time for novelty was over, it just wasn't her style. Instead she approached the large group of soon to be exiting passengers in hope of hearing directions of where this exploratory office was, excited to get her Pokedex updated and to see what kind of setup they were dealing with. While she waiting for the others off the boat, maybe she'd start her research! Surely the soil close to the waves would be soft enough for a bit of observation, though she'd be more curious to see the dirt further in, where folks hadn't traveled yet. Pure soil like that could probably grow some amazing plants, and it caused her thoughts to roam to delicious berries she could pick on the trip. Which made her think of what possible recipes Arlo had to share!

Excited, she was practically bouncing up and down waiting for her chance to disembark. Thoughts going here and there as her brain put itself into overdrive, which was far from an unusual state for the woman to be in.

It was a pretty decent apology, even Felix had to admit it. Perhaps it was even sincere. It sounded like it probably was. One would be hard pressed to hold a grudge after such a well spoken and timely apology.

Unfortunately, Felix was talented and more than just a little cynical.

Ferris could apologize all he wanted now, but Felix expected him to be a continual annoyance, so why bother getting chummy now only for it to lead to disappointment later? That said, Felix knew the only saving grace he had after his little tantrum was the fact that he'd been the victim in the situation, so if he was accepting being part of this group, he couldn't very well go and throw the apology back in the man's face.

"Mhm..." Felix shrugged before Ferris walked off. It was the best he had to offer in the moment. He'd just mind his own business as much as he could until he had no other options. He let out a weary sigh, "Once you have the rest of the group figured out, I'll see you at the exit ramp." With that, he trailed after Isla at a lagging pace.

He too thought about what he was going to do on the island, though he spent far less time pondering the dirt. In reality, he really didn't have a plan. He was sort of along for the ride.

"What do you think?" he asked his pokemon. Venus struck a thinking pose for a moment but then smiled and patted his hip, or more specifically his belt. Felix let out a bemused puff of air, "Of course you do. Fine. We'll see what we run into. Just try not to be a bad influence this time."

At this the pokemon crossed her arms indignantly.

"Relax, you know I'm kidding." Felix cracked a rare smile, however small it was. "We'll... both give it a go I figure, right?"

The mawile put her hands on her hips and nodded confidently.

"But seriously, I'm in charge." This went unacknowledged. How troubling.

Ayana & Arlo
Mentions: Yes.
Location: MS Marlow - Upper Deck

Arlo was caught a bit off guard as Ferris slipped a sizable wad of cash from his wallet and offered it to him. He paused, pulling his hand back a bit before folding and taking it meekly with an appreciative "Oh- well, thanks." He was right, afterall. PokΓ©food wasn't the cheapest thing in the world, so he wouldn't complain.

Arlo tucked the money lazily into his pocket and waited for him to finish apologizing to Felix before being addressed by Botan. He gave her a smile at the question, and glanced back to find Ayana entirely out of view now, probably off vomiting somewhere. "Mhm! That there was my sister." He said, matter-of-factly. "She'll be oh-so-happy to find that I got us a group to join up with. She's just a little seasick at the moment."

This was very much evident to Ferris as he'd find her bent over the railing once again, polluting the ocean. After a minute or two she slowly stood up straight with a look of utter disgust on her face as she turned and leaned against the railing with a bit of labored breathing. "Fuck.."
She hardly even noticed the guy standing in front of her until it clicked that he was talking to her. "Huh? Oh.." 'Mr. Survivalist'.. what in the hell was Arlo doing..
She rolled her eyes, which caused her to grow a little more queasy - but she managed to hold it back with a noticeable effort. "Right.. yeah."

Apparently this guy had searched her out to apologize for his PokΓ©mon. She could understand the sentiment. Rockruff wasn't the most well-behaved pup either. At least he was a bit of a comfort though, as he sat nuzzling against her shin. "Er, yeah- no problem.." She responded tiredly, her fingers pressed against her temple as her head hung down. She appreciated the apology on behalf of.. whatever that PokΓ©mon was, but she mostly felt like getting back to nursing her queasiness.
"It's- fine."

Meanwhile Arlo was very much ready to get this journey underway. "Seems like now's about the time we should get going, seems like there's a ton of people over at the disembarkment-ramp-thingy." He said, pointing his thumb over to a far area of the main deck. "Last one on land's a rotten Exeggcute!" He exclaimed with an excited grin before darting away from the remainders of the group, Zorua sprinting after him with ease.

He hurriedly went and grabbed his bag from where he'd left it with his sister, finding it a little bit lighter, but at least she'd found somewhere else to vomit - it seemed his plan was working. He grabbed the travel bag and hurried his way to the disembarkment deck. There were quite a few people and PokΓ©mon funneling off the boat, excited expressions and all. There were a couple employees ushering them towards what Arlo assumed was the Exploration Office. He merrily skipped past those who were taking their time and made his way to the office- but despite his hurry he could help but be impressed by the view. The grass was so green. The trees were so beautiful and everything just looked so untouched. It was something he definitely wasn't used to, coming from a rather urban area in Unova-- but there'd be enough time to admire it all later. For now he had to enact his plan.

The Exploration Office was a little under a furlong away from the boat, and was placed in what seemed like a natural clearing, alongside a crude PokΓ©center and a few other areas that he was unconcerned with for the moment. He wondered how they'd gotten these structures build in such a timely fashion, but then again he was no architect. The right PokΓ©mon probably made it super easy.

As he approached the Office there was a small tent with a couple officials sitting outside under a huge parasol. People were crowding around at their table, signing their names onto a few simple documents. Arlo hopped in himself and eventually it was his turned to come up to the table. Soon it was clear this was where the exploration groups were being documented. He took the pen they offered him and quickly scribbled his name along with his sister's. He paused for a moment and then carefully wrote down the names of each of the others, trying to spell them as best he could. "Al..right. There we go! Perfect." He said to himself giddily. He left the line and then.. well.. what to do now? Where was he even supposed to go? He scratched his head with a nervous smile. Maybe he'd just wonder around until the others got all their stuff off the boat.

She wasn't much for words, but then again if he were vomiting as she were he wouldn't be up for speaking either. "Uh, that's squared away then. If this wasn't awkward then he didn't know what was. One simply doesn't have a casual conversation with someone who was heaving chum into the ocean for the water-type Pokemon, but luckily Ferris had an out for this situation. "Well, your survivalist is with my group and I'm fairly certain they're on shore already so let's go meet them, shall we? Oh, give me your bag; you don't look, uh, well enough to carry anything." He said, offering an outstretched hand to her if she felt like taking his offer. '

Regardless if she followed him or not, he had returned his Pokemon to their Pokeballs and walked off the ship onto the new world, a green land almost untouched by modern civilization. While his hand was itching to take photos of the scenery, his main priority was to find his group though it actually wasn't that hard of a search when there was a line of people not far off assumingly signing wavers that whatever happens to them on this island is not their sponsor's fault. He didn't see the rest of the group, but he did find a very familiar braggard. "Yo, survivalist. Did you sign us all up already?" Ferris asked as he approached the Unovan.

Having no interest in getting caught up in a large crowd, Isla decided to be patient and instead take a small detour to something else that'd probably only catch her eye. Supply runs to such a location weren't going to be constant, and it seemed the staffing on the main island were aware of this. A small setting out of range of the buildings, in a lightly occupied soil space by the waters, were some crops. Digletts aided in clearing dirt, humans planting the seeds and patting the dirt back, then a few small cutesy water types sprayed water in the air to darken the soil. This was great, but also disappointing, as it meant there was already someone on the path to figuring out the quality and fertility of the land here. A small but noteworthy discovery she wouldn't get to make, but that was okay. She should've figured such simple things would end up out of her grasp, they had to spend some time setting up around here, after all. Just meant she had to throw herself deep into the island to find something unique.

Distraction out of the way, Isla figured she'd get the signing process over with now that the crowd had been given a few minutes. Though, luckily enough, she got to see Arlo taking the initiative and throwing his brave little survivalist soul into the crowd to get everyone signed up. She probably wouldn't of stopped if not for Ferris questioning Arlo on the matter, causing her to pause before getting in line herself. "They jus' let anyone put a buncha names down? Can't imagine the paperwork lookin' too great if there's more makeshift groups like ours." She momentarily pondered if Arlo even knew her full name, let alone how to spell it, but figured if they were rushing paperwork like this then it was just for show anyways. One guy couldn't just be fully accountable for three to four people he might not know, right?

'Wouldn't tae'bae like this if it was the Galarian Government,' She mused in her mind, historic mind going back to the times where certain Pokemon weren't even allowed into Galar without proper paperwork, lest they tamper with the local populations if trainer mishaps occurred. Ah, well. Lingering on that wasn't worth it, even if Isla had an essay or two worth of words to say on politics at any given moment. This wasn't the place, nor the time. Rather, she decided to turn her attention towards something that was interesting, and would help her progress: An updated Pokedex, and some extra supplies.

Actually, supplies in general were a good question. Skills, perhaps, too. She wasn't gonna pester them about the latter, Arlo was already quite open with his survival skills, after all. Between him and her she was feeling the group could be pretty safe.

"Shall we figure out if we need anythin' before we depart?" She asked the boys, fingertip lightly pressing against her chin as she thought aloud momentary. "Got basics with me. Place t' sleep, tools for the wilderness, an' food. Though a place like this, bet there's plenty of fruit out in those wilds." Almost going off-track at the thought of food, her tongue slid across her lower lip before she snapped back to reality by adding: "Och, of course, medical supplies and a few skills, too. Dropped med school after a year, but I can patch up the basics just fine." She seemed a little too cheery and certain about harm coming their way, but honestly, was it really roughing it in the wild if you didn't get hurt unexpectedly? Shite happens, that's just how it was! "Spent my time out in the Orre outback, too! This ain't my first wilderness venture. But I'm sure my skills aren't anything compared t' a certified survivalist like you, Arlo." A genuine smile was sent his way, though quickly it was replaced with her adding an additional thought as her brain continued pumping out things for her to get done.

"Might try an' get what medical supplies I can off the office when I get my 'Dex updated." She mused, grinning. "A bit extra never hurt." She gave a firm pat to the side of her backpack, heftier than it appeared for sure. Far from a complainer, she was more than happy to haul what she needed to. Not a bodybuilder, but she prided herself in being self-reliant and strong, both in will and somewhat in strength.

It wasn't hard to find where they needed to go considering there weren't a lot of options, and plenty of other people had started forming lines. His first priority was to find the office where he could update his pokedex. It was a little amusing waiting in line seeing those who had one already pull them out.

They were all so... big and clunky. He pulled out his own which was barely half the size of most of them, and even more so smaller than others.

He had to wonder what kind of information was actually going to be uploaded. Wasn't the whole point of them being there to help explore? Was it just what little they'd already discovered? Map data? Well he supposed he'd find out soon enough. That said, while the update itself didn't take long, he wasn't really going to sift through all the information now. He'd worry about that later.

While there, he was also told his group had already been signed in and so he was off the hook in that regard. That settled that then. He was stuck with them.

All that was left to do was to regroup with them. Most of them were currently huddled up nearby, which made his job easy in that regard.

"I guess Botan already got us signed up." She seemed like the de facto leader of the group in his mind, so that was what he'd assumed. He never even spared Arlo a glance. "Pokedex line is over there," he told them, pointing with his thumb over his shoulder.

Everyone was very eager to disembark, Botan included, so after Arlo confirmed that the blue haired woman was his sister and then challenged a race to shore the young woman smiled brightly and dashed off after him. She wasn't as quick as him, shorter legs and much less experience and all, but maybe she could use her smaller size to her advantage in weaving through the rest of the people on board! Botan descended the stairs to the lower deck quickly, but just before enacting her plan of squeezing right through the crowd a very familiar PokΓ©mon's voice reached her ears.

"Champ." Jarvis was a few steps behind Botan, having spotted her running and being quick to catch up with her. Slowly Botan came to a stop, turning to smile sheepishly at the Machamp. Each of his four arms were laden with bags. There was a large red duffel with a few charms attached to it's zippers, a second nearly identical bag with contents that seemed bulkier than whatever was in the first one, a big rectangular canvas bag that clearly had to have been some kind of pop-up tent, and a slightly smaller gray bag that was unremarkable compared to the others.

"Looks like you've got everything! Thank you Jarvis." The PokΓ©mon grunted happily in response. Together the two made their way more slowly off of the ship, the small crowd parting ahead of Jarvis to give him and his ward space. Once on land, Botan breathed in deeply and spread her arms wide.

"We made it! Panmia Island... islands? Well, we're here! It's that real start of our adventure!"

The island was beautiful, even just the small fraction of it they were seeing. The foliage was lush and green, and even where the small makeshift buildings were situated there were swaths of plants untouched - the land carefully combed and cleaned just enough to make space for the humans living there now. It felt much more wild than the fields of Kanto. The gardens of Celadon were much more colorful, but they were arranged that way - and the plant size didn't even hold a candle to the ones on this island. The only thing that could compare in Botan's home region was the Safari Zone, but even that was a planned jungle, sculpted by humans. Botan looked off into the distance toward the treeline, looking for any sign of wild PokΓ©mon. At the moment she didn't see any besides the birds high overhead, which she could barely make out. Most likely they were more Wingull, if their cries were any indication.

"Alright!" Botan turned to Jarvis and held out a hand. "A bag, please! Since this is a proper adventure with a whole group, I want to start carrying my weight! ... or some of it, at least!"

Jarvis looked skeptical, but he held out the smallest bag - "Jarvis! One of my own bags!" - at first before switching to one of the red duffels. He gave her the lighter of the two, and though Botan struggled initially with holding it once she got the strap over her head and the bag balanced on her hip, she felt quite proud of herself. "Thank you! Now, let's meet up with the others."

Like the rest of them Botan made a detour to group sign-ups, but was pleased that one of them had already gone to the trouble of registering their group. She made a quick correcting to the spelling of her name and then joined the group where they all waited a little ways off. It seemed that she met up with them at just the right time, as Isla kicked off the discussion about planning before heading into the wilderness proper.

"Oh! For supplies, I brought everything I could think of!" Botan said, gesturing to Jarvis with both hands. She wasn't exaggerating in the slightest. "I got a tent, clothes, blankets, boots, canteens, a small stove, a flashlight, escape ropes, repels..." She counted the items she remembered off, ending with, "...a punching bag, and food!"

Jarvis nodded along with every item listed, confirming that it was indeed among those he carried. She might have gone overboard with her packing, but it was a (mostly) uninhabited island. Better safe that sorry, right?

"Plus, Jarvis can take care of anything we need in the strength department. You'll find that he is very capable. As for me..." she trailed off, growing quiet. A dust of pink brushed her face, realizing that compared to Arlo and Isla, and probably everyone else too, she didn't have any skills relevant to surviving outdoors. "Um... well, I brought my credit card. I'm not sure what we can obtain with money here on the island, but rest assured I have that covered."

It was all she could offer at the moment, besides the supplies she'd brought. Hopefully that would change though, she was planning to make the most of this expedition and learn as much as she could.

She also meant to correct Felix once he'd arrived that she was actually the last one off the boat, but the next thing she said piqued her interest so much that it pushed every other thought from her brain.

"Oh! Yes! Thank you Felix, I'm so excited to get a PokΓ©dex of my own! I'm going to go get in line now!" And so she went, the big bag she held bouncing off of her with every step she took as she hurried over.

Ayana & Arlo
Mentions: Yes.
Location: Panmia Island - Base Camp

Despite her very apparent seasickness, Ferris' words made Ayana all the more queasy. Of-fucking-course Arlo had been up to trouble. She'd already made it very clear to him that his shenanigans weren't going to be tolerated on this trip. She hadn't even wanted to come- she had to cancel a lot of plans for this. Luckily for Arlo, when push came to shove, Ayana would always truly have his back. And this explorative trip was a very big undertaking, especially for someone as airheaded as her brother.

But that didn't stop her from furrowing her brow in aggravation at the mention of them having a group. She almost had to bite her tongue to hold back a more-than-annoyed response. She took a moment to try and shake off the wobbly nauseousness before she stooped a bit to pick up her bags. She hesitated for a second at Ferris' offer, but ultimately shook her head. "That's fine, I've got it." The girl had learned from her time in Unova that trusting random strangers with your things wasn't the greatest idea - and while she didn't outright take Ferris for a thief, one could never really be sure. And even if she did fully trust him, there was no way she was having someone else carry her bags. She was more than capable herself. Usually.

She hoisted her set of duffle bags with a bit of extra effort as the Rockruff at her side took it upon himself to pounce onto her and climb its way to her shoulder, before giving her color-drained face a supportive lick. The two followed Ferris as he made his way off the boat.

Despite her nauseous state, Ayana had to admit that even from the boat, the surrounding features of the island were quite beautiful. She'd seen a bit of journey herself within her home region, but nothing so...untouched. What a shame it was that she'd probably be babysitting her brother the whole time..

Speaking of her brother, it seemed Ferris had found him wandering around near a few lines of people with his Zorua in tow.

Arlo turned at the newly familiar voice addressing him and his face lifted into a smile. "Heya Ferris! I sure did! Looks like you're stuck with me now~" He said proudly, putting his hands on his hips. His eyes drifted over the photographer's shoulder and ended up meeting his sister's cold glare. He averted his eyes immediately and scratched his head awkwardly. Well, his plan had worked to distract his sister long enough to lock their names onto the list, but uh.. the consequences had not been entirely considered by the blue-haired boy. Arceus help me-

Fortunately his internal prayer was soon interrupted by the other members of the newfound crew trickling into the area. They each had their own concerns regarding the process behind the signups and such stuff, but Arlo was hardly concerned with the details. As far as he knew he'd done the group a small service to get them on the road. "I guess they do! Who cares about the paperwork anyways, I'm sure everyone's as excited as we are to get passed all the bumpin' around, dontcha think?"

It wasn't long before the last member of the group arrived, followed by her towering butler of a Machamp, laden with several bags. Arlo placed his hand over his own bag subconsciously. He had packed rather light, so he was glad others were more of the preppy type.
He giggled to himself a bit at Botan's remark towards her own usefulness, but considering the gear she'd brought she'd probably already proven herself more useful than him tenfold in the exploration department.

At the mention of Pokedex distribution Arlo's ears perked up. He'd never had one before and was a bit jealous that Ayana, whose cold gaze he was actively avoiding at the moment, had had one for a while now. Now he'd get his very own! He could feel his heart beating a little harder just at the thought.
He gave Felix a nod as he followed Botan towards the Pokedex area, the thought of a new Pokedex completely blanketing anything else he had been concerned about. "Thanks bestie!" He said, giving the slightly shorter guy a happy thumbs up and a wide smile as he passed him by.

The people trickling into the small tent laden with Pokemon gear, several computers, and techies strewn about would find themselves being provided a particularly bulky Pokedex, and a quick demonstration on how to boot it up and operate it. Those who brought their own would undergo a measurably longer procedure in which a techie would plug a cable into the Pokedex and perform a process on a computer that took about five minutes. Either way the soon-to-be explorers were quickly ushered out of the tent as soon as possible it seemed, the techies seeming rather busy even aside from all the Pokedex preparation. Should one look into their pokedex after having it updated, they would find a new feature that seemed to be a complicated satellite-based map-making application. A small portion of the empty map seemed to already filled in, and a small dot displayed the Pokedex's current location.

As they were ushered out of the tent, a supervisor would chime in as they passed, holding out a case with an absurd amount of Pokedex stickers spilling over its edges. "Make sure to add your travel-mates to your contacts! You'll be able to keep track of their location for a boost in safety!"

Arlo was much more eager than his sister, who ignored the lady, to pick out a sticker and place it onto his shiny new pokedex, his eyes gleaming in excitement as he looked over the device like a starstruck fan.

Jesus, if looks could kill. Ferris wasn't even looking at the woman and he could feel that icy glare still though he did not feel particularly feel sorry for it being directed at Arlo. For some reason he knew that the phony survivalist deserved it. "Well I can't say that being stuck with a woodsman such as yourself is a bad thing. I'm sure you'll make great Ursaring bait." He sarcastically remarked as he glanced around at the group. It seemed like everyone was present more or less, even Botan's overdressed manservant Machamp who was carrying quite the load on his shoulders. Would this group be okay? Two of them looked like they didn't even want to be in a group together and another two were so evidently green as trainers that it was almost painful to watch.

Well, it'll work out somehow. The Photographer smirked at what Isla said and chuckled lightly. "Heh, looks like they'll just let anyone pair up. I'm sure the wavers we signed at the beginning of this trip is all that they really care about." Honestly that was probably the case; they did not want to be responsible for someone getting hurt especially if they were someone of the upper echelon of society and had the resources to slap a lawsuit on whoever is sponsoring the trip. At least they were offering supplies and an updated Pokedex for this unknown region.

"Well this isn't my first foray out into the wild. I've been travelling the world ever since I was a kid and faced all sorts of trainers and Pokemon so I'm pretty confident that I can take on most things even with a disadvantage. If there is one thing I'm good at, it's tracking Pokemon. I specifically photograph Pokemon so I tend to go to some extremes to find what I am looking for though it seems like I'll have to make another team for this region." He said, lifting his camera to show that it really wasn't for show.

"Let me just go update my Pokedex and get whatever supplies they offer." It was definitely the better option; his personal Pokedex was sleek, thin, and easy to carry. The ones that were offered by the crew were cumbersome and frankly, a pain in the ass to carry around on a belt. It would've have been easier to use the app on the phone instead, but considering that this was the only way they could contact with one another.

Someone was way more excited to pick up a Pokedex than him; Arlo looked upon it the same way that Ferris himself did when he was ten-years-old. "Eh, at least it doesn't talk." He says, remembering the Rotom Phone. "Hey guys, let's exchange numbers and then head out to catch some Pokemon."

𝕃𝕠𝕔𝕒π•₯π•šπ• π•Ÿ: Panmia Island Camp

An eyebrow was raised at Arlo casually brushing off the situation with the paperwork, but there wasn't much to be done. If her name was there, and that was all they cared about, there wasn't much else she could do unless a problem came up later. Besides, here she was being a worrywart when they were supposed to be going out and having a fun time! She forced away the concerned look and replaced it with her pearly smile, calmly placing her palms together, fingers entangling as she took a moment to take in Ferris' words.

"You're able to track Pokemon?" She repeated with astonishment, the prospect sounding amazing to her. "Why, that sounds incredibly useful! I hadn't an intent to catch any Pokemon, but to study them out in the wild instead. Imagine the information that could be gathered, findin' their homes after they scuttle off..." She swooned a little at the idea, before managing to recover in a quick manner. She'd definitely have to watch him once he was on a trail, to try and learn a little. A skill like that was something she absolutely wanted under her belt. Though before she could think further, Botan was speaking up.

She seemed prepared, which was good! And she wasn't lying about Jarvis, either. Just one look at him was enough to tell you he was strong, and she was sure he'd be an overwhelming help during the trip. Though, as Botan spoke of herself, it was sort of clear why such a Pokemon was around. She didn't have much experience on her own, but a Pokemon like that would surely keep her safe. "Suppose if we wander back here we may be able to peddle for some supplies," She spoke positively to Botan's generous offer. Though Isla felt prepped for a decent period, and could refresh her own supplies, a little help never hurt. Even if she lacked outdoor experience, it potentially gave Isla a chance to teach, which was a prospect she kept to herself for the moment despite the excitement it brought her.

Instead, she followed Felix's words and Botan's excitement. "Oh, you'll love it!" She hadn't considered some of these folks might not even have a Pokedex. She'd had hers so long, it felt attached to her as much as just about any identification. Quickly she joined in the line and took out her Pokedex before reaching the front, for the sake of convenience. She was plenty excited once she arrived, the slightly banged up and scratched device getting her a look, but an upgrade in the end.

Seeing the stickers upon exiting the tent, she had similar excitement to Arlo's: She loved adding small stuff like that to her devices and bags, to show where she'd been! Memories were important, and though Arlo was in front of her she curved an arm past him to pluck two stickers out between her fingers. She hadn't really looked at what she got until she stepped out of the way of the rest of the folks coming out, staring at the stickers while making an audible "Hmm." in thought.

It didn't take long for her to decide what went where. She had a Piplup sticker and a Rockruff sticker. The cutesy blue penguin went on her dex, and the adventurous rocky doggo went on her bag. She let out a small pleased giggle as she finished, feeling positive about this venture. Ferris' advice echoed that of the supervisor, and Isla couldn't exactly refuse. What if one of them got into a bit of an issue? With an easy way to contact her, she'd be able to stomp over like the angriest mama Usaring you'd ever seen.

"Och, good idea!" She responded, one hand clapping against her Pokedex. Despite her lack of interest in catching any Pokemon, it'd still be nice to be getting out into the wild. There were so many questions to answer about these islands! And she planned to dig into every nook and cranny until she had answers to them all.

While Felix waited for everyone else to update their pokedex, he decided to look at his own.

"That's... a lot of island to cover." He blinked, already feeling tired just thinking about it. Reality was starting to sink in. There wouldn't be any towns to stop at along the way. It didn't seem like much more than the immediate area had been thoroughly mapped. They didn't know for sure what they were walking into and, without civilization, would have no clear destination to head toward.

Well it wasn't like they had to map everything with just them, there were other groups, but still. He really didn't fancy wandering aimlessly across an uninhabited island.

These were the thoughts occupying his mind as the group once more began to reassemble, "Huh?" he looked up from the transparent screen of his pokedex as they began speaking. "Oh... yeah, sure, whatever." Sadly he was still pretending to "get along" with Ferris, so he would have to register even his contact info.

"Heading out is great and all, but we need a plan. If we just wanna roam around this area aimlessly, fine, but if we're gonna head out farther, we should pick a landmark or something and have a goal." It was the most he'd spoken the group all at once since meeting them, one might note. What else could he do though? At this point he was past accepting his fate or not. If he was doing this, he wasn't getting strung along mindlessly.

'Mrr!' His mawile let out an excited warble, pointing into the distance.

". . . we are not climbing the mountain." Felix frowned. Of course his pokemon would pick the tallest, most imposing destination possible. Mind you, it was also one of the only landmarks clearly visible in the distance from where they were standing, but that didn't make it any better of an idea in his mind.

Her own PokΓ©dex. Her own PokΓ©dex, her own PokΓ©dex! Ah, it was so exciting! Botan eagerly waited in line, and once it was her turn to accept the device she squealed in delight, turning it over and over in her hands. The technician seemed charmed by the display, and if she took a little extra time showing Botan the ins and outs of the PokΓ©dex then who could blame her. Still she was ushered out to make way for others to receive their own PokΓ©dex, and it was only the sight of the others in her group already reconvening and getting ready to head out for real that stopped her from using up even more time meticulously looking through the pile of stickers that were being offered out. She ended up grabbing a sticker of a random PokΓ©mon and then hurrying over to rejoin the rest with a big smile on her face.

"I got one! That lady showed me how to add contacts, so," A quick glance around while they all synced up showed that besides herself and Arlo, the rest of the group made much sleeker PokΓ©dexes. The difference was pretty clear, but this big blocky thing was hers and she loved it. She grinned at Arlo, her fellow newbie. "Let's test them!"

She swung the device towards Jarvis, who did his best to strike a pose while still burdened with bags. After only a second of fiddling, the PokΓ©dex beeped and a tinny mechanical voice rang out from it.

MACHAMP: The Superpower PokΓ©mon. One arm alone can move mountains. Using all four arms, this PokΓ©mon fires off awesome punches.

"Wha...! Jarvis, you can move a mountain?!" Botan exclaimed, sparkles in her eyes. In reply the Machamp just smiled mysteriously. After that it was a spree as she pointed the PokΓ©dex around the group towards another PokΓ©mon.

MAWILE: The Deciever PokΓ©mon. Its giant jaws are actually steel horns that transformed. It fools foes into complacency with its adorable gestures, then chomps them with its huge jaws.

"Ma-wile?" she said, mimicking the species name. "Ooooh, this is amazing!"

Just when she thought she couldn't get anymore excited, the topic of catching PokΓ©mon was brought up. The smile on her face couldn't get any wider. "Catching a PokΓ©mon! I'd very much like to try!" What an accomplishment catching their first PokΓ©mon was for a person. She could give Jarvis a proper PokΓ©mon friend, and then they'd have even more hands to help out with the adventure! Wisely, Felix pointed out that they should all probably have a goal in mind for the expedition before anything. Excitement tempered, Botan giggled and agreed with him.

"Hehe, right... Um, well, the map..." she looked at her PokΓ©dex and brought the map back up. There was an outline of the main island they were on, but not much else besides the base they were at now. "Maybe we can set out in a direction none of the other groups are going in?"

That very well could lead them up that mountain, and though Botan was a bit intimidated by trekking up a mountain for the first time she felt that she would be okay with this perfect assembly of reliable people with her!

Venus almost looked startled at the pokedex's description of her, as if she'd never heard it before.

She had.

She folded her hands, looking as innocent as possible, horns tucked away behind her. Exactly what she'd done after dragging Felix across the ship earlier.

"You are literally proving it right," Felix spoke, deadpan. Venus just averted her eyes. "Well I assume they'll want us to catch pokemon in order to get more information, so they must be handing out pokeballs around here somewhere. If not, I have a few spares. It's really not all that hard if you have a half-decent throwing arm..." Felix tried not to actually look at her arms.

If she really was the pampered rich girl she came across as, he feared her arms might be a bit more on the noodle-y side.

"They sort of lock on as long as you don't completely miss. Only tricky part is if the pokemon is too stubborn you'll have to fight it first. Well, your pokemon will. I don't recommend trying to fight a pokemon yourself." Felix hoped that last bit hadn't actually been necessary to say. Might have been funny to watch, though.

If they did stop to get pokeballs though, they'd have to do it fast. He wanted their group to head out quickly and actually choose where they were going, rather than get their options whittled down to anything too... inhospitable. Looking at the map, he had to imagine they were all linked to some degree, and as each group headed out the map would fill in.

If so, hopefully it would be easy to avoid people. Too many groups in one place would just scare off the pokemon... or attract the angry ones.

Well it looked like Ferris had returned to Isla's good graces with being able to track Pokemon though he did not expect her to quite literally swoon at the prospect of studying Pokemon even closer.

Anyway!

Felix finally spoke more than ten words. Well, he wasn't wrong that they should look for a landmark though he was skipping a few steps. "It's not that I don't understand your sentiment, but if we're gonna find a landmark then we actually need to look around for one. We don't exactly have a complete map to help us pick a spot." Actually, Felix needed to slow his roll there. How in the world could he expect anyone to think of an actual plan when they had very little to work with? They just got on the island.

Ferris cocked his brow and said, "A goal? It's a bit early to get bogged down in the details don't you think? Focus on only goals and you'll miss out on the rest of the world." While he appreciated the spirit, it wasn't exactly in the right place.

"Besides, we already have a goal; explore the island and record our findings. So let's just go with Botan's idea and head off in whatever direction the other groups don't go in. The rest comes later." It was as simple as that. When they find something of note then they could start making actual plans.

"Botan and Arlo need a masterclass on catching Pokemon anyway. I could use some more myself since I didn't bring my actual team."

Isla felt a flutter at Botan's enthusiasm, seeing someone so excited to try catching a Pokemon reminded her of when she was first scrambling around as a kid. She preferred to rely on her old friends than pick up a bunch of new ones, though seeing the group battling would be wonderful for her research, so she definitely did not want to discourage any of it. "And if ya hafta' end up in a tad bit of a scuffle, just know that I'll be around to patch ya up!" She added to Felix's words towards Botan, figuring she'd help support this by revealing an extra little healing secret of hers:

A reach past her shoulder was enough to grab a Pokeball from her bag, the orb quickly expanding in her hand. With that classic white flash, her lazy Galarian-Slowbro took shape and appeared, blankly staring at it's surroundings. Either absolutely dumbfounded because he was surrounded by so many strangers, or not particularly caring. "My big oblivious pal has a move to help your Pokemon, too!" She informed, patting Conch on the head. He didn't budge aside from a slight head tilt, simply responding to being pulled into this situation with a slow and tired "Bro."

"His Heal Pulse does wonders! The least I can do for bein' able to witness a battle: It'll be invaluable to my research." New Pokemon were a possibility, but what if there was something even more drastic out here? A new typing, perhaps? Some element beyond what the science field has recognized? Just the thought got the blood pumping, and if they didn't hustle, they'd end up not making the discoveries. And between the discussions that had already gone on about how to go about it, there weren't a lot of inputs to be made.

Hand scratching at her chin, Isla thought about their little predicament. "I'm sure a lot of these folks aren't exactly the experienced types, so they'll probably hike along the edges of the ocean, or outskirts of the woods." She smirked. "So if we go straight into the woods, we can probably cut ahead, closer to the other side of the island that'll be free reign for us, since we'd be there first!" She clapped her hands together, satisfied with the idea. "What's a better place to find Pokemon than a forest anyways, right? I'd love to do some research on the plantation anyways, so I think it'd have something for everybody!"

Ayana & Arlo
Mentions: Yes.
Location: Panmia Island - Base Camp

Arlo clutched the Pokedex to his chest as the others talked amongst themselves. He found himself just daydreaming about all that was ahead, the comments of his group members weaving even more possibilities into his reverie subconsciously. He held back a wide smile at the thought of catching his first Pokemon. He'd never even tried before, being that his current Pokemon was a gift from his parents and was a perfect companion for him. But having more friends could never hurt!

Arlo was broken out of his trance by the others talking about how to go about starting their trek. He looked down at his Pokedex. The map showed a fine outline of Panmia island and the other, larger islands of the region, but aside from that the detail was limited. It did provide elevation analytics for most of the region though, it seemed, so finding elevated landmarks would be easier, were there any. Honestly to him it didn't matter much whether they had a plan or not.

It seemed on the other hand Ayana wasn't entirely looking to provide her own input either. She listened to the group discussing amongst themselves as her eyes finally left her brother and explored their surroundings as she stood with her arms across her chest. Her Rockruff wandered around nearby, sniffing the shoes of their new travel partners.

Arlo turned his glance back to the Pokedex wondering how exactly they were going to get across the bay of sorts to get to what looked like the mainland island north of Panmia Island. But soon his thoughts were interrupted.

A lanky, middle-aged man pulling along a large cart filled with cases, boxes, tarps, and all manner of things approached the group, adjusting his glasses as he looked over its members. "Hello there young people! I don't believe I've visited your group yet." He said, interrupting the conversation and setting the wagon still as he shifted his heavy, overflowing backpack. He did a short spin and stepped around the side of his wagon before he began digging through the contents intently. "Don't mind me I'm just here to provide you a few travel gifts, curtesy of the Exploratory Office!" There was a short silence from him apart from his rummaging as he struggled to gather the gear he was trying to find. "Ah, here we are." He said, fishing out a few last items and tucking them into a travel bag. He thrusted the package forward to the person he was closest to, that happening to be Ayana, before returning to his wagon and reaching into a box for two specific items held in each hand. He approached again and handed an item each to two others, those being Isla and Felix.

He smiled to himself, seeming content with the gifts before he began speaking. "These two here are very special items." He went, tapping the black top-hinging box that Isla held, and tweaking a small antenna on the radio-esque device he'd given to Felix. "This here is a revival-synthesizer-" He continued, tapping the black box intently. "-useful for generating a few revives per few days, in case your Pokemon become quite injured and you find yourself stuck without being able to heal them to consciousness! Take care of it- it's expensive and you won't get another." He said, the last bit developing a serious tone. But the excited quality of his voice quickly returned. "And this here is a universal tracker/inventory request device. You can use this to request a small supply drop of a couple items from most surface-level areas in the region. The supplies can take quite a few days to arrive and not every request is guaranteed though, so don't rely on it all the time, alright?" He finished looking at their faces to make sure they understood what he was saying. Seeming content, he returned to his wagon and hoisted its pulley over his shoulder. "Welp, it seems like you younguns are all ready to explore this new world-" He said happily. "-I wish you the best of luck!" He finished, and began rolling his wagon away just as he had before, his eyes scanning for other groups.

Ayana seemed a bit surprised with the briefness of the gift-giving, but looked down at the bag thrust into her hands anyways. It seemed a bit full and peeking inside she saw an assortment of PokΓ©balls and other basic gear.

Arlo chimed in happily as the man left. "Well then! It looks like we're all ready to go, huh? I reckon it doesn't matter too much where we start off, the other islands are so huge there's no way we end up running into another group too often, right? Might as well just head straight onward! Maybe to the Northern Coast?" He asked excitedly, looking at each of the other group members.

"Exactly! We're on an uncharted island, that's why we-!" Felix had to bite his lip to keep himself from blowing up on Ferris again. He ran a hand down his face, taking a deep breath as Isla took over the conversation, the revelation of her partner pokemon, one he'd actually never seen before, helping to distract from the near loss of his cool.

"Sure, yeah, that could work," Felix mumbled, pulling up the "map" on his pokedex. "That means we're leaving here entirely, which means we need to keep an eye on the sun so we know when to start looking for a place to set up camp. I don't need a 12-step plan, I ju-" And suddenly he was having some strange device shoved into his hands that could apparently call for supplies if it became necessary. That made sense, actually, since even Jarvis couldn't carry an endless supply of food and they could be here a while. With that distraction, Arlo took the chance to suggest the North coast, in other words, that they should just cut across to the entire other side of the island. It was extreme idea, but technically in line with Isla's idea.

To be fair, he doubted many others would be so bold as to go to the entire opposite end of the island so soon. Felix glanced back at the map, trying to wedge the radio thing under one arm, but in the end opting to drop it into Venus's arms who fumbled slightly, but managed to keep it from hitting the ground, letting out a sigh of relief as the device settled in her grasp.

"We could... and if we veer just a little east, by then we could call in supplies and maybe hop over to explore some of the smaller islands if we've found a pokemon that can carry us, or maybe we can just call for an inflatable boat or something..." Felix mused, but then paused. Was... he getting into this? Whatever, he was already here and he'd promised Venus he'd "give it a go" after all. If he was going to do this, he might as well make it worthwhile. "We can worry about that last bit once we get there, but for now that's a good enough plan for me." He couldn't help but shoot a sideways look at Ferris as he spoke, though he did his best to keep his expression neutral. "Unless anyone objects?" Ferris hadn't offered anything helpful, and thus hadn't given an opinion, and Botan hadn't had a chance to chime in yet.

The items put into their possession from the Exploratory Office brought a look of surprise to Isla's face. Something that could create those little 'revive' things, huh? She hadn't seen such a device herself, but figured it'd be a good thing to have nonetheless. She could aid injured Pokemon, but couldn't revive anyone fainted. It'd definitely prove invaluable if they ended up in a tough spot. She tapped at it curiously, fingers trailing around the box for a moment as she simply took in the information provided. "Why, thank ya!" She happily exclaimed to the worker, before he set off. What a swell parting gift!

Felix and Arlo seemed to be following along with her logic for the most part, though there was a fact that the island was quite large. There was plenty of ways to splinter off, she was sure, but a wood trek sounded fun. "No objections from me, if everyone's feelin' ready, that is?" Isla took the time to account for Arlo's quiet companion through most of this, that seasick lass. Surely the silence wasn't fear, considering she had a survivalist for a brother, right? Maybe she was still a little woozy from the ship.

Plus, being so quiet, maybe she was a shy one! Cute, but in a traveling situation like this, it was much better to get to know your traveling partners. There'd be no fun moping the whole way! She'd have to break the ice while the others got excited, which wasn't particularly a problem. She skipped past the Rockruff who was instead met with the slow and blank-faced creature still standing in her place. It looked down, eyes locking onto the dog before responding to being sniffed with a simplistic and monotone "Bruh."

Ayana could easily notice an approach from Isla, with a big peachy smile on her face. Hands holding the revival-synthesizer (Which she noted to put away before they actually set off,) She couldn't offer a hand like she normally would. But that didn't mean the professor couldn't offer her words. "Noticed you weren't feelin' top notch on the ship," She commented, concern in her calm tone. If Ayana was the shy type, Isla didn't want to startle her. "I hope you're feeling alright to travel. If not, we can surely wait a bit longer." It didn't occur to the woman that Ayana could've felt against grouping up, mostly due to Isla herself being an outward and friendly sort. Figuring instead a caring approach and some concern would help ease her into the surroundings that were much louder than her by a long shot.

And now Felix was back in angry Yamper mode. Or would it be angry Furfrou mode since he is from Kalos. Of course Ferris knew that he shouldn't put gasoline on a fire, but this schtick with Felix after he apologized to the gremlin was starting to get old fast. "I don't see why you need to lash out. All I'm saying is that there is so little planning we can do when we're just at the starting line and honestly, we really don't need to. We have the rare opportunity that no one else in our time has to just walk in any direction where we feel like it and make historical and scientific discoveries. Landmarks and goals will just come naturally as we explore so there really is no point in getting so hung up on the details right now."

In the middle of the discussion, they were interrupted by an elderly man pulling along cart loaded with boxes and other supplies courtesy of the Exploration Office. He then handed their group a black box and then a couple of walkie talkie looking things. For someone even like Ferris this was new to him; a box that could generate revives and a radio/tracker for air-dropping supplies. Something like this would have amazing for his own expeditions around the globe. So this was the power of government funding.

Now with their gifts in tow, the group was back to discussing what they should do. The side-eye that Felix threw at Ferris did not go un-noticed, but he was indifferent to the Yamper's pettiness. It would take more than a mean look to rile him him. However, there was actually a pang of worry when Felix suggested going to the other islands. "It would be better to hold off on going to the smaller islands for now,"said Ferris. He was not trying to be a contrarian to get on Felix's nerves though just him breathing seemed to do that alone and he certainly wasn't doing this out of fear of his own safety. "As I see it, it's too risky to cross to the smaller islands as we are even with a supply drop. I'd be fine if it were just me, but we have two very inexperienced trainers and I'm worried that they'll hurt themselves when we would be even more isolated.

"We should explore more of the mainland first. The Northern Coast is a good starting point so let's go with that. If we're lucky we could start setting up a base-camp today." It wasn't that Ferris lacked any faith in Arlo and Botan. Okay, maybe a little, but it was mainly out of concern for their well being and their growth as trainers. It was one thing to start their journey in a developed region, but it was entirely different matter when it was an uncharted island. Any mistake they made on the island was magnified.

Of course. Of course the moment Felix's mood had made a slight upswing, Ferris had had to speak up again. Venus cringed, seeing Felix's expression immediately darken.

Was he doing this on purpose? If he was so insistent that letting the wind guide them was fine, then why did he care enough to argue? The only conclusion Felix could come to at the moment was that it was out of spite. Suddenly Ferris cared to discuss things only when it meant contradicting him.

Whether it was real or just a cynical assumption made in the heat of the moment wasn't something Felix currently had the emotional capacity to consider. It was too late, and he was already incensed.

"Oh look who suddenly wants to discuss things ahead of time!" He snapped back at the man. If he was gonna complain about Felix "lashing out" regardless, then Felix might as well just speak his mind. He wasn't exactly yelling, yet, but he was clearly past the point of polite conversation. "So what is it, huh? You want to wander in circles or play it safe? I'm getting sick of your wishy-washy crap!" It was hard not to take it personally when he repeatedly vetoed all of Felix's ideas and the one time he'd made a concrete decision... it was STILL vetoing one of Felix's ideas. "Because I know what I'm doing! I'm trying to take this seriously! If you want to screw around, do it on your own time!"

"People like you are how-" Felix looked like his next order of business was to get right in Ferris's face, but he never made it. He tried to take one step, but was halted. He looked down to see his mawile blocking his path, arms outstretched to hold him back. The concerned pout on his pokemon's face immediately gave him pause. The anger in Felix's eyes cooled, but his expression was still overtly hostile. "I'll be waiting outside the camp." It was a whiplash inducing change of pace, but perhaps it was one for the better.

He turned on his heel and marched away, Venus remining behind to bow her head apologetically at the rest of the group a few times before scurrying off after him. When her stubby legs caught up to her trainer, she found him sitting at the base of a tree, knees tucked up against his chest, with his bag dropped on the ground beside him.

The mawile quietly patted him on the shoulder until he finally spoke, "I did it again, didn't I?" She nodded. "Not my finest moment, I suppose." She nodded again. "I'm not apologizing to him. I don't care if he does either." Venus averted her eyes at that. "What? You think I'm the one in the wrong?"

The mawile could only shrug. The intricacies of what they'd been discussing were lost on the pokemon, but what she fully understood is that Felix had seemed to be doing better up until Ferris's latest remarks. She also fully understood that Felix's response hadn't been pleasant to witness, and likely seemed twice as bad to a stranger. Right and wrong weren't something Venus felt comfortable judging.

"I'm just... gonna ignore him as much as I can." So far the common denominator to everything unpleasant had been Ferris. Maybe Felix was part of the problem, but at the end of the day if interacting with the man caused problems, he'd just remove himself from the situation, then neither of them could cause an issue.

It was an inelegant plan, but the best he could promise to uphold for the time being.

. . . Back at Camp . . .

"Well... that was ugly." Isla watched Felix storm away with a pout. They'd not even begun and already the group was threatening to fracture to pieces. In that case... she'd have no choice but to hold it together herself!

"Excuse me! Are you Professor Isla Gavins?!" An out of breath man skidded to a halt next to her.

"Err, the title might be a wee bit much, but... yes?" she blinked in confusion.

"Oh thank gosh, I'd already gotten it wrong twice."

"Was the red hair that hard to pick out of a crowd?" Isla had to raise an eyebrow at that one.

"Y-you'd be surprised." He stood up straight and cleared his throat. "I'll just get straight to the point. The research team is short-handed, so we're hoping to pull talent from the exploration groups."

"What, and work in an actual field lab?" Isla glanced between her group and the man. "Do... do you have soil analyzers?"

"Errr, p-probably?"

"Good enough for me!" She spun the man around before glancing back at the rest of her former group. "Sorry, but you understand right? Can't pass up somethin' like this!" She then pushed the man into the distance. "Just know if there aren't any analyzers, I'll sic my slowbrow on you! Galarian ones are poison types, you realize."

. . . "Bruh?" About 10 seconds later, said slowbro registered the departure of his trainer and quickly trundled off after her.

And just like that, Isla had left the group.
