I've been debating about starting an RP for a while. I've hosted several under a different alias and I think I may be ready to dip my toes back in. I was strongly considering either a horror/supernatural RP or an RP based in a Ninja Turtles setting.
Horror/Supernatural RPs are everywhere, it seems like, but I haven't seen a Turtles-based RP... uh... ever! So it won the day.
This RP would share the same concept as the comics/shows as well as many of the same characters, but the history would be highly altered. Players can take control of canon characters (Casey Jones, the Turtles, April, Splinter, etc.) but I also highly encourage creating a new, original character.
As I mentioned, the established timeline and history are out the window. Maybe there aren't 4 turtles. Maybe there's just one of two in this reality. Maybe the 'team' doesn't consist of turtles at all, depending on what characters the players come up with.
Despite the fact that anthropomorphic vigilantes is a concept ripe with silliness, I do want to try and make this as serious as the concept would allow. Think Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1991) movie.
Characters:
It's hard to provide any limitations here. Want to be a human? Sure. Want to be a Beastperson? Sure. You don't even have to be a Turtle. Could be a Cat, a Wolf, a Crocodile... whatevs!. Want to be an experiment gone wrong (or right)? Of course. Want to be a robot? Metalhead approves! Want to be an alien? Why not?
Story:
If there's enough interest, I will dig into this heavily. Like I mentioned before, I want to try and keep it a little serious with some dark undertones. Famous foes will make appearances, but their iterations in this world may not completely mirror the versions you're used to.
You can bet the story will take place in New York, that crime is prevalent, and that your character, whether intentional or not, has found themselves caught up in the mayhem and has to decide how they're going to deal with a city so volatile.
One thing I need to resolve, that is likely going to affect the way you write your characters, is how society feels about anthropomorphic creatures. I think its safe to assume that anthros will be shunned or otherwise untrusted, but I suppose it would be fair to say society knows of their existence, even if they don't accept them. If we get a quorum, I'll build upon that more deeply, but it'll at least give you some broad direction as you consider what character you might go for.
Canon Characters
Maybe you want to be a canon character instead of an OC. That's fine! However, canon characters might be in high demand so it should be noted that contested canon characters will not automatically be granted to the first person to request them. If 2 or more people want the same canon character, several factors will come to play in deciding who ultimately gets them including the players ability to write, their activity frequency, and their overall experience. I want to bring on players that are going to stay for the long haul as oppose to those who are just excited at the concept and then disappear after the novelty has worn off.
So, what say you, guild? Ready to get radical?
