Combat Rules

1. Drinking a healing potion is a bonus action. Administering it to someone else is an action.
2. If you crit, you roll your normal damage die + max damage + modifier. (Example: If the damage is usually 1d10+3, on a critical hit you roll 1d10+10+3)
3. Initiative gets rolled by the GM to speed up the process.

Places

Orlbar

Orlbar is an unremarkable and, indeed, boring little village. Described as "absolutely nothing to recommend it to the traveler" and "inconsequential and inoffensive". Here, a traveler could get basic food, shelter, and a bed to sleep in while on their way to somewhere more interesting. This is where we start our adventure.

Weathercote Wood

According to the elves, Weathercote Wood, also known as Weathercote Forest, was full of gates to other worlds, as well as wizards that guarded them against casual use. Neither spells nor psionics could penetrate the woods and those that entered were never heard from again. This is where our adventure takes place.

Welcome! This roleplay is a D&D 5e short story. The Death Knight's Squire is a fan-made adventure module meant for solo play, adapted here for a party of 2-4 players. The goal is for this to be a short, straightforward, and stress-free roleplay where posting comes easy. Please note that stress-free does not mean commitment-free. I will not be playing a character in this, so I am solely GMing. The adventure can end in total failure, partial success, or full success.

Rules For Participation

You will start at level 2. You get your max HP from level 1 and roll for the additional HP for level 2. (Example: As a monk, you'd have 8+1d8+constition modifier HP). Death is possible, so be aware of that. If your character dies, you may make a new one.

1. You may only choose classes from the Player's Handbook (though you may choose subclasses from other official sources). I understand some won't like this but it makes it significantly easier for me.
2. You may choose any official race from any official source.
3. Stats will be rolled - you may roll an entire set of stats twice and take whichever you prefer. You can put any number where you want after that. Please share your stats in the OOC with a link to the roll.
4. All rolls for this RP must be done with the guild dice and always within the same "dice campaign". Additionally, please label your dice rolls. E.g. "Investigation Check" or "Stat Rolls".
5. You get the starter equipment that is listed with your class and background.
6. You may choose any background from any official source or choose none. The GM reserves the right to refuse any background if it doesn't fit.
7. You must be a "hero". Whatever your internal motivation is, your character must be willing to offer help. Best suited are of course characters with the alignment "good".

Rules for Posting and Behaviour

I am expecting you all to be decent humans who are welcoming to all who find this thread and trust you are all looking to make this a smooth experience, which includes helping other players by answering questions or guiding them on how to use the dice system on the guild. Treat this as if you're sitting in front of each other, do not let the anonymity of the internet make you less of a kind person than you'd otherwise be.

1. The GM might make mistakes at times. You may ask them about a call they made but for the smooth sailing of this, a GM call is to be accepted.
2. You must post once a week. If you miss this deadline, you will be removed from the RP. If this happens, be on your best behavior and don't start a fight.
3. I will be accepting max. 4 players at the same time. If one player drops out, the spot gets immediately opened up for another player to take. Yes, this will not "make sense" in-game but we will embrace the weirdness and roll with it nonetheless.
4. This is an LGBTQ-friendly space. I will not hesitate to kick you out.
5. This will NOT include "adult content". Refrain from mentions of sexual assault, substance abuse (including excessive alcohol consumption), or other such topics.
6. Combat can be written in detail but I ask you to show decent human restraint in how you treat your enemies.
7. All rules apply IC and OOC.

The GM reserves the right to boot you from this RP if you break any of these rules or are in general performing undesired behavior. You can be kicked without warning. Though I will likely give you a reason, I do not owe you an explanation.

This mysterious knight flees into the nearby woods where our adventuring group will be heading to retrieve the child and possibly put an end to the Death Knight.

And took joy in disrupting the sensitive sensibilities of those who found discomfort in his very existence. But he was hardly ninety at the time, and eventually, being rejected by the very people you surround yourself with... eventually, you'll break and lash out. Which is exactly what Keannan did. As a more juvenile elf, he could not be punished as a full adult. Notes on the rest of this; - Keannan was sent to a druid circle to study under one of its masters - Typical resilient mentor story. No matter what Keannan did, the master did not give up on him, and taught Keannan not just about druidcraft, but about the natural world, the order of things, how to manage his anger - and how to deal with particularly annoying peers. - He also taught Keannan the value of life - what it means to have it, and what it means to take it, be it in a form of combat, or as a hunter searching for food. This is why Keannan carries a wolf fang on a leather cord around his neck - a memento of this exact lesson (and also, it came from the background items, 'a trophy from an animal you have killed', so). - Related note - Keannan still hunts and eats meat, that sort of thing. He respects life, and what it means to take it. So when he kills an animal, he does his best to be respectful, does not prolong its suffering, and tries to calm it, if he can. Which is sometimes an ordeal, given he can understand the thoughts and emotions of animals. Things I haven't pinned down: - What, exactly, Keannan did to get himself 'socially excommunicated' from his home. - Who his master is (though likely an elf?), and what has happened in the fifty or so years between then and now that Keannan is no longer at their side, under their tutelage. Yeah, you need to click the 'add feat' or whatever you're trying to do and punch it all in manually. It's a pain in the keister but I think it ends up looking nice enough in the end. Also sorry for the late reply to ya, I meant to keep checking back but got distracted.

@Mistress Dizzy You can always switch to a different online forum to use. Mystery Weavers is pretty simple. DND Beyond has some options for free and is pretty simple to use. I sadly don't know dungeon master's vault and can't assist with it. I also saw you rolled a 7 on your HP. That would give you 7+8+constitution modifier. So you have at least 15 HP and then you add whatever your constitution modifier is to it, that will be your max HP.

I will look at the submitted CS soon! @rocketrobie2 Would be great if you could copy your sheet over into this thread.

I'm gonna try to get a look at everything this weekend and hopefully we can start IC on Monday. I do have some other important things to take care of over the weekend though, so I can't promise I will be all set to start Monday but I'll try.

His nature is greedy and selfish but under Charlie's tutelage c'Ob's begun turning over a new leaf of selflessness and kindness. Charlie finds irony in his new roll as the 'stoic' martial arts master as his time among the living was spent as the hotheaded newbie of his monastery. Charlie puts on a facade of calm, kind and collected in front of c'Ob but deep down he lives for fights and all the things he wasn't permitted to do while training at his monastary. Background ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔ c'Ob was a part of a Grung archeologist group, though this title is being very generous to the gaggle of frog people. After a scouting party found the ruins of an old monk monastery the rest of the tribe was informed and a mixed bag of different classes of Grungs were sent by their leader to search the place for artifacts, art, or anything valuable. Everyone spread out, looking for loot and c'Ob managed to find the charred corpse of one of the old inhabitants, frozen in a meditative posture. This normally wouldn't interest c'Ob much but the immaculate bracelet on the corpse's wrist had his attention. The frog, with great effort, pried the bracelet off and popped it on his own wrist, enjoying the look for the time being before getting back to work. During his work c'Ob began experiencing some odd occurrences like seeing a ghostly figure walking around corners or whispers in his ear. Spooky stuff but the frog-man got over it. After the work was done, all the loot and art was gathered up by one of the higher ranked Grungs to be given to the group's head-honcho. However, every time c'Ob would hand over the bracelet it would somehow appear back on his wrist when the focus on it was lost. Public opinion quickly turned sour against c'Ob as they thought he was stealing it back when nobody was looking. Quickly things got violent and c'Ob was sure his number was punched. However he quickly found himself doing the punching. Like some long suppressed muscle memory, the traditionally wimpier Grung was throwing a flurry of fists, block and dodges as he fought for his life whilst catching glimpses of the now all to familiar spirit that he'd seen all day doing the same moves. After a bloody battle, c'Ob managed to dash away from his home, people and family with his life intact and a slew of questions. In the days to come Charlie would reveal himself to c'Ob as a now long dead monk who, in an attempt to extend his already formidable half-elf life, ended up only achieving a quasi-life after death and binding himself to his bracelet which was now also bound to c'Ob. Now the duo travel together (not entirely by choice) as master and student and hoping to complete Charlie's work by furthering c'Ob's mastery of his ki.
