Hard Sci-fi Crime/Military

Interested in starting a Hard Sci-fi story with heavily developed lore. Can't seem to find anything, and I don't know how to GM. Very willing to talk more about ideas. It would be heavily world driven, with character development as people want. Currently have a coupleccharacter ideas as well as pretty developed worldbuilding. Happy to post more as wished but unfortunately I am on mobile so advanced formatting may not be present.

Definitely agree with you, I find it has more opportunities for crreative/interesting tech ideas. I was thinking a basic framework would be a hard sci-fi equivalent to starwars, with the main storyline being focused upon a slightly shady freelance freight ship and her crew!

Hmmm, not quite sure yet. Thinking possibly solarsail ship or something along those lines with like some system of "hyperspace" only accesible by Dune style "hyperspacd" carriers. Still all quite up in the air. Any specicic suggestions?

Solar sails are interesting, though I think might be less useful the farther you get from a star, though im honestly not an expert on such things, and Im not sure how much thrust you get out of it.

Theres also a type of proposed engine called the "Medusa Drive" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_pulse_p… Which is like a solar sail but you throw (low yeild) nukes in its direction. its a bit more complicated than that, but its a pretty promising hard scifi design.

As for FTL drives, I think something like dune would be a fun way to do it, especially the depiction in the new movie, where it is unclear if the ship moved or is simply two places at once

Interesting. Another option would be to forgo smaller soacecraft entirely and instead use a series of space elevators/catapults for in system travel? And then some kind the 'the Guild'-esque conglomerate that has a monopoly on interstellar-transport. That or solar sails/medusa drivez, but the major sentient race(s) don't live planet bound, but instead mega-structures close to the star. Thereford the only travel that is non-interstellar or non-domestic would either be industrial or somewhat less-than-abovd board.

Hmm. Not quite sure how to answer that. What's the scale you would say sci-fi hardness operates at? Because I'm thinking something like Dune level hardness, but in a cowboy bebop style "Sci-fi Western" type environment. But in the end it all dpends on how hard sci-fi we eant to make it.

So basically single-stage space trucks and either hyperspace gates, hyperspace or spacefold ferries.

Could be fun.

So, what are the regulations on weapons on space trucks?

Ideally, you'd want a Q-ship where the weapons are hidden if we're raiding in space on our own. If it's a sizable space truck, fighters or war drones.

And, of course, deployable emergency radiators.

It would be helpful to be able to reconfigure the ship a bit, projections that move or retract, the ability to change the transponder (or shoot off drones broadcasting the same transponder ship code), even some e-ink panels where the hull changes color or starts displaying graffiti (assuming it's atmospheric capable).

Fucking hell you have a lot of ideas. Nice. Would they be analogous to space freight trucks or space freight ships? Either way certainly agree with youf ideas.
