The world is a wonderful place, filled with brave warriors, powerful magic, and a variety of peoples and locations. The small human town of Centerville, located between two large cities on the continent, is one such place. It is a calm, peaceful area, perfect for those who are looking for a rest stop. You are one such person; an adventurer. Whether you're a mage, barbarian, ⁷ranger, or something else, you do things like go on quests and explore dungeons to make a living. Today, for whatever reason, you find yourself in this town. And you've heard good things about a local drinking establishment, or maybe you've been there before and liked it, so you find yourself at The Silver Angel. Despite the name, the wooden construction and furniture of the tavern is very typical of places like this. Whatever the activity may be that you're engaged in there, you're interrupted by a local man slamming the door open and yelling.

"The beast has attacked again! Are any of you adventurers? We need your help! Come with me to the mayor's office, he'll give you a good reward for your help."

Whether for the money, out of altruism, or another reason entirely, you decide to go with this person. Now you are on your way to this government official's place, ready to work with this group of strangers to get this job done. Will you be able to succeed?

-----

So to summarize the prompt above, you are a group of adventurers in a typical medieval fantasy setting who will be working together for the first time to defeat a powerful creature. Your skill level would be between a novice and mid-level; you have experience, but there's still room for growth. The idea behind this is to have battles with real stakes and excitement; just destroying everything in your path isn't fun writing. I structured the plot so that there is room for collaborative worldbuilding and a larger plot if there is demand for it. If not, this can be a more episodic RP; it just depends on what you all want.

Here are a few rules to help make this a good place to write for everyone:

1) Posts should be at least two or three quality paragraphs each. Often times, it will be smart to write more than that, and that is encouraged if it makes sense! Not all posts need to do this though; quality beats quantity every time.

2) Please use proper spelling and grammar. I’m not the grammar police, but it makes writing look so much nicer. I recommend using a Google or Word document for your initial drafts, not just because of this but also because you'll have a saved copy of your writing if something happens.

3) If you have a concern about the RP, please let me know. Remember, I am only human, so I can’t read minds and I will likely make mistakes as well.

4) If you need to leave the RP, just let me know. I understand life happens and it's easier to be told than to wonder why someone disappeared.

5) No smut, extremely graphic torture, or gore please. A common-sense PG-13 rating is what I’m going for. If people have sex or something, fade to black. I’m not looking to write an episode of Teletubbies, just use common sense.

6) Most importantly, have fun! The whole point of this is to have fun writing, so it's a good thing to keep in mind.

The CS is located below. I'd there are details you'd like to collaborate on or need clarified, let me know!

If you have any questions, let me know. I do have a Discord server we can use for the RP if people want to do so. I look forward to writing with you!

@Zapdos Quite an interesting, if somewhat, simple idea which is perfect.

Do you have any hard-limits on what races will you allow in the roleplay? I don't mean in terms of power but in terms of weirdness. Say, the blobs from DnD (or was it Pathfinder) or tiny fairies that fly and have strong magic but strength-wise, they're...well...

@Zapdos How do you feel about explosives in this setting? Handmade and/or magic.

Thank you! I kept it simple on purpose so the RP could be malleable based on what the players want out of it. I like collaborating with my fellow writers!

To answer your question, I think it would depend on context. E.g. I'd probably not allow the blob because of things like measuring how it takes damage, that sort of thing. Maybe the fairy, depending on how they're structured. It might be easier if they're at least the size of small children, but I'm open to discussing whatever ideas you may have.

I think explosives could work; again, it's about context. If they just lock on to the enemy and autohit them, that's boring, but if there's more nuance it's more interesting. I'd lean more towards magic explosives in this kind of setting though.

@Timemaster @Darkmoon Angel by the way, it's fine if you both are magic users. I can make a city guard type character to be the meat shield, if it is needed. Or if we get a ton of interest, I can just not make a PC in the first place. Whatever makes sense for the RP!

@Zapdos I was thinking of some spells being combinations of different anime. Turn small objects into bombs, JoJo style. Or a gigantic middle finger of an explosion, Konosuba style. Course it’s all going to be balanced for the current setting. Maybe small mana orbs that my character launches that explode when they hit something, minor to no homing.

I've never seen either of those series, but if you can translate those abilities into the setting, cool. The mana orb thing could work, I think.

@Orxc Yes, this quite interests me, it seems fairly easy to follow and I already have some great ideas! Meat shield? Then what better way than to support!

@Zapdos Thank you for the answer. I won't be doing either of those, it was more to see what other people might. Got into one too many RPs where the setting was loose and people ruined it with custom races that were...too much or at least made me lose interest.

I've got a few ideas.

1. Orc, Templar class - inspired from the templars from Dragon Age (anti-magic people)

2. A Changeling Siren class

3. Whatever race, Luck Mage which I'm already playing in a different RP. The least likely from the 3.

No problem! Yeah, I don't want it to be too crazy, but I do want some flexibility for the writers.

I never played Dragon Age, so based on a quick web search your first idea would be an orc who hunts magic users? And your second idea is a siren (I'm assuming this is based on the sea creature mythology) that was swapped with a human baby? I'm just not familiar with some of the concepts you mentioned so I just want to be sure I know what you mean before offering my insight.

How would you write out the magic of a luck mage? It could be interesting, or a frustrating experience for you, depending on how it's done.

@Zapdos

The templar's abilities are that of negating magic, sensing magic and of course, fighting with different weapon. Haven't decided yet on a backstory but I'd probably go somewhere within the lines "Land from far, far away where people avoid magic like the plague. Templars were made as a counter weapon against magic users. " My char would've probably been a squire that learned bits and pieces of their anti-magic powers but then *something, not sure yet* happened and they left the templar order to roam the lands.

The Siren is a specialised class of the Bard. Using their magic to convince people, monsters to do things. Something like this.

The Luck mage is the most random of characters. I can do it in two different ways (more but these two are the main ones).

1. They use a dice to cast magic. They simply need to say what the spell needs to do and then roll the dice. If the roll is a high number, spell works. If it's neutral, nothing happens and if it's a low number, the spell backfires horribly. The magic can be of any type of magic school and do pretty much anything. Dice can only be used twice a day.

2. A duelist luck mage. The luck mage has a passive luck field around them which makes them...lucky. An arrow shot by a master archer...is pushed by the wind and just narrowly misses the target. A sword that was sure to stab the char, hits the exact angle where the armor is the strongest. A spear thurst dodged by moving the arm/body whatever at just the right time.

@Timemaster of those three, I think the first would work the best. It's more versatile, it seems balanced and you seem to have a good backstory in mind. The second would just be boring, given the story established so far; either they succeed with their power and the beast is neutralized, or they don't and they're useless. For the third, the first one seems interesting but I'm not sure how it'd play out RP-wise. The second would probably work better in a D&D sort of combat system than in a writing-based play by post sort of thing going on here.

I'm not trying to be overly negative, so my apologies if the second or third ideas were the ones you preferred. Just trying to provide an interesting writing environment!

@Zapdos I have a little bit of an idea as to what I'd want to do for a character in this setting, as cliche as it seems. I'm new to the site and this would be my first public RolePlay and I absolutely love the ideas you've come up with so far.

For the character, I was thinking about a fairy of some sort, with parents of two races (fairy-human), due to this she can't fly with the wings on her back and presents as a short human unless you were to see the speckles on her cheeks, colored hair, pointed ears and wings on her back. With this, I was thinking that she could play more of a support role, since she in fact cannot escape very well due to no wings. I'm still thinking of ideas pertaining to powers, but most definitely if someone was to attack her from behind, she could flutter her wings and attack their eyes with tiny orbs of "sand-like" substance. I was thinking she could buff other adventurers and one of her main goals is to seek out someone to "assist" amongst the setting. Any ideas, thoughts?

I'd be into this, I could be a heavy hitter / brawler type with giant iron balls on my fists as weapons. Probably a gruff adult man who was possibly once a criminal and could be doing this task for a pardon from the mayor and complete freedom in return?

@Duckie I like your character idea and backstory! The one thing I think could be modified is the orb thing, since it sounds pretty close to the magic @Darkmoon Angel wants to use. Maybe some kind of fairy glitter instead?

@deso that could work, though I'd like a visual as to what you mean by "giant balls" so I'd have an idea of what it looks like in practice. The backstory works as well.

Had an idea for a tank who is technically a healer, but they can only heal themselves. I was thinking maybe there's something off about their magic where they can't control it so they're just constantly overhealing themselves, even out of battle. Still trying to think of some negative effects of the overhealing, but that's what I have so far.

@deso that sounds good to me!

@ORXC I'm not really sure if there are stakes if he can heal himself, especially without repercussions, and if there are consequences why haven't they manifested yet if he's presumably been alive a while? I don't object to two tank characters, and I'm open to being proven wrong, but I'm skeptical of the healing tank concept.

@Zapdos Thank you for the reply and maybe I worded it in a confusing way, but in my post I had said "sand-like", so I'm thinking I may have some things within her story about sleep-spells and otherwise debilitating moves. I've never written a magical character, so this would definitely be new to me. Perhaps she can grind down and burn flesh with sand? Make it feel like little bites, but not enough to kill? Something along those lines. Something of a sand fairy, but reflective sand/glitter. Still thinking of the details! Basically a support role!
