Zrer Lakeilu

Interacting with: Boro the Bookkeeper @scrawls, Saya Akaba @AzureKnight
Outside in the Village || Talking to two now || Relaxed

"That is good, Boro, and I am glad you are feeling good" Zrer has to admit Boro's love for books was something that did bring joy to him. He could not place it, maybe just seeing the innocence of it. Plus, maybe helping out at the library could help him find a book that can restore his magic. He does have nothing planned today, and it is a thought, at least. Still, Zrer does wonder who used to own the library before Boro claimed it. But that is for another time.

Then someone else approached the two, a human, Saya, Zrer believes her name was. "Oh, good morning, madam, and what we were talking about...." Zrer looked hesitant, for his condition was a personal one, and he does not want the whole village to know. Telling Boro about it was necessary, and Zrer is not sure he can trust her not spread word of it. But if he recalled right, Saya makes potions, so maybe she can help if she does not spread word of it.

"Well, it is just a problem of mine, and I was returning a book that while it was in the right direction with solving my problem. It was not enough, and I am back to the drawing board, and I hope that perhaps there is a book in the library that can help me." Zrer changed tones to more cautious one. "It is a personal matter and one that deals with magic, and I ask one thing. You make potions right?"

Interesting. Those odd trip-wires---silk? Not fishing line or string---aren't the only means she has to detect those who cross her territory. Goh had never become familiar with magic, even in his homeland...at least, no more familiar with it than he might be with any enemy's weapon. No doubt they did it differently here as they seemed to do most other things. He glanced at the watering can in the woman's hand, and then at the plants around her.

"Yes, well," the old man joined her as she continued, ambling slowly by her side, "I just happened to think, I had not seen you out and about...lately." Actually, had he ever seen her out and about? It would make sense if Wormwood or Miss Mary were the ones bringing the reclusive woman groceries and other supplies. Goh had trouble recalling if he'd ever met her in the village itself before. Anytime he or the children had needed treatment, they'd always come here---which was why he knew about the tripwires and a few other little odd tidbits about the place. Even as an old man, he took pride in never falling for the same tricks twice.

"So I thought I'd invite you to see the hubbub for yourself. Mayhaps some of the odds and ends the travelers bring in would have use for your practice?" He closed his eyes and softly leaned over one of the plants they'd already passed by, taking in its deep herbal scent. But, in his own way, he watched for her reaction beneath his eyelids. "Or...maybe it'd be an opportunity for you to sell your own wares? It's a great shame, I think, that most folks outside our humble hamlet simply don't know there's a doctor of your caliber among us. Don't you agree?"

I don't agree,” Nibiria says, “I don't have wares. I doubt I could make sale of dried herbs and basic poultices, or a handful of canned vegetables and fruit jams,” she claims, ignorant of the fact that all those things could sell with ease and interest, “I'm hardly that special of a doctor. I'm just good at what I do.

Still, it is possible for the children to suffer injury and be untended for too long for my comfort...” Nibiria groused, as she hefted her watering can, crossing her arms, “For the sake of treating the children on the off-chance they are hurt, I will see what this... Market Day is about.

Late Morning

The lazy morning dragged onwards as local folk congregated around Cornelius' stall, cautiously grabbing their groceries as they gave him odd looks, and skittering off or lingering a safe distance away to whisper among themselves as they watched him.

The boughs of the trees swayed lazily near Nibiri's garden as her fleet footed visitor paid a visit, the puffs of his pipe forming satisfying little clouds that dissipated away. Everything seemed to speak to the easy going nature of village life today. In fact, even from this distance from his Wards, Goh could tell they were quite safe racing around the market, playing whatever games children like to play. While not aware of the details, he could relax knowing they were coming to no harm. Another quiet and relaxing morning in the Hamlet.

Speaking of village younglings, one had been peeking around the corner of the library for a little while, her big green eyes gleaming with curiosity. A little out of earshot perhaps, but fascinated by the pretty lady in the purple hat and the forest man she'd seen around a few times. Big Boro was there too, and she liked him because he could make things fly like birds and sometimes he gave her fun picture books and he didn't even mind if she took a few days to bring them back. Something about that being what Lebberrys were for.

Little Lenya contemplated how to go about requesting another book. The three looked like they were doing Very Important Adult things in very Adult Conversation, so she opted for a stealth approach. She sidled up next to Saya secretly, and tugged quietly on the witches dress, attaching her little hand with all the power a 5 year old can muster and not letting go.

Meanwhile, in a little known hidey hole in the woods, the first experiment of many had started - and it appeared to be going well! The little rat twitched it's whiskers for a moment, then stood on it's hind legs, poking it's nose through the bars. Despite being fed a few moments prior, it was acting like it had never eaten anything in it's life to date. Ratty seems more then eager to wolf down as many tasty treats as possible!

The Adventurer's Guild

Throughout the plains, the ringing of an old rusty bell could be heard, originating from the north of town. It could only mean one thing.... The Adventurer's Guild was officially open and accepting new joiners!

Inside the building, Brisk creaked into an old rocking chair by the front desk, his droopy eyebrows concealing his expression.

"Jada, you've done such a great job of cleaning the place up, I'm truly grateful. It's delightful!" his voice crackled, "do you think we should put a ribbon up and cut it? Is it too late to do that? Hmm." He slowly patted down the pockets of his long robes, "I think I have some change here somewhere, to buy a nice ribbon to cut..."

@Zeroth Goh - might be surprised to learn that Nibiri seems genuinely unaware of what she's worth as a Doctor. No deception detected. However, she does seem exhausted and suspicious, though she has no Ill intent towards you.

@TimeMaster Training success! Your rat has learnt Perform: Beg very quickly and seems to take a training quite well. There are no discernable changes to it's form just yet. You think developing amorphous traits might take time. Despite being small for a Giant Rat, Ratty seems more then happy to accept any and all food coming his way, which will speed te process up.

Penumbra

Interacting with: Ratty the Giant Rat
Location: The Abandoned Hut || Action: Training Ratty|| Emotion: Focused

“GIVE ME” “I’m HUNGRY!” said Ratty in its language which Penumbra completely ignored. They understood very well what Ratty wanted and learned.

You’re a hungry creature, aren’t you? Hungry even if you just ate. You might be smarter than you look. Very well, let’s try something else. If you do it, you’ll get a treat. If you don’t, well, you’re going to starve and we’ll try again in a few hours. ” said Penumbra with their many voices.

Ratty returned the favour and clearly didn’t understand them back but still continued to beg on his two hind legs. Asking for more and more food.

Penumbra cut a few more pieces of themselves and showed them to Ratty, just outside his reach which made Ratty get very excited making sounds and pushing against the bars, then Penumbra threw inside the cage a tiny plank of strong wood. Ratty went straight away to it and after a few seconds of intense smelling, he shook his head and went to beg for more treats.

Bite. Ratty. Bite it and you’ll get treats. Don’t and you won’t. ” said Penumbra in a stern tone as they pointed at the wood. They kept doing that for hours at a row, hoping Ratty would learn one of two things. Either he’ll learn to attack on command or his teeth would get strong enough to break through. In the end, it didn’t matter. Ratty had to be taught. He had to transform and the only way to do that was for him to learn all the important commands.

Penumbra sets themselves a new goal - get Ratty to transform into a Giant Rat that can either change shapes at will, change their natural element or swap between solid and liquid form. and that has very strong teeth which is a more close and achievable goal.

Ingrid Lucentia von Draph
Interacting with: Wormwood @Dark Cloud
The Bridge || About to Meal Prep || Gramhundling--whatever that means

Ingrid slung her rod over her shoulder and let out an exasperated breath. "Quit the plumbuckering."

Ingrid's diction was strange. At times, she spoke true to her noble roots. Other times, she spoke in the same brash ways as a commoner. She even knew multiple languages of which were complex and ornate. Unfortunately, Ingrid didn't quite have the capacity in her brain to properly be a polyglot. Sometimes, she used the wrong language for the wrong people. Other times, it led to something known as an Ingridism: a word that had been completely and independently conceived in Ingrid's mind as an actual word, yet it was a complete mystery of how it came about.

Today, that word was plumbucker.

"You just have to answer honest and earnest." She said as she scratched her head. Even if someone could be picked up by the head and used as a ball for games, that wasn't any reason why they would react like a fish out of water.

"Answering like you got ants in your boots will just make it seem like you're up to something. And if you're just looking to fish, then by all means fish. Just like how I need to go prepare these fish, I don't need permission to do so.

She pat her hips as if looking for something.

Ah, that's what she forgot. Her knife.

Cornelius Bojangles

Interacting with: Joe Bob, Townsfolk,
Hearth Town Square - Adventurer's Guild|| Wheelin' and Dealin' || Down in the dumps...

Well, at least the produce was moving!

And so were the people.

With nary a word after they bought the produce beyond some hushed whispers.

Cornelius wouldn't dwell on it though, packing up his makeshift stall back into his wheelbarrow. One of his crows would peek its head out and give a brief "Caw".

"Well let's see...carry the four...divide some junk out...oh! In about 230 more Market Days, I'll have enough for that fancy toupee. No, wait, gotta buy fertilizer with this, so uh...what's five times six again Joe Bob?"

"Caw"

"Huh. Really? Crazy. But, uh...make that 530 market days. But, one'a these days we'll have a bumper crop and you'll all get all the good corn and seed you can eat! That's a promise," the scarecrow said, reaching down to gently scratch and rub underneath the crow's chin, before starting to make his way out of the Market. He had to pack everything up to not be a nuisance, after all.

Just as he was fixing to leave though, one honking big bell rang out throughout the town. Turning his head towards the newly renovated Adventurer's Guild, Cornelius would start making his way over to check out what was what. He didn't actually know enough about the town's history to know much about the guild. But, it sure was new and exciting! Peeking his head in, he'd check in, as would several crows that poked out of various patches on his tunic.

"Quite so." Saya responded. "It certainly helps one to understand how to cast multiple transmutations in succession."

Listening to Zrer's response, she noticed his hesitation to answer. "Is something wrong, sir? I understand if it's something you're not comfortable discussing at length, I simply wanted to help if possible." She perked up a bit when he inquired about her wares.

"Indeed I do make potions, something I rather take pride in. What were you looking for in particular, I may have something that could help."

Saya sensed the presence of another off behind the building. She turned for a moment and saw a young girl with bright green eyes, they were looking at the trio talking in front of the library. If Saya recalled, she remembered the little girl like to visit Boro and often borrowed cute little books from him. She flashed a warm smile at the girl and a friendly wave; She seemed like the shy type, and perhaps that would help her feel more comfortable.

Goh chuckled as he listened to Nibiria, before tapping out the ashes from his pipe---away from any of the plants, of course, and grinding them into the dirt with his heel to be sure no stray embers got away.

"You are too modest, young miss." he said as he closed his eyes and felt the breeze whispering through this well tended, peaceful garden. "I think all of those things you mentioned would be of interest. But even if you don't agree with me, I agree with you quite wholeheartedly." He placed the pipe back between his wrinkled lips and folded his arms into his sleeves. "Those little rapscallions are always getting into something---and they've been slacking off in their training. I'm always telling them, they'll get hurt if they don't pay attention!" He laughed again, though at the end he coughed politely into one fist.

Truthfully, his senses could pick up the children's energy even from here---totally fine and traipsing about without a care---but why mention it? He wanted the good doctor to come out among the townsfolk in any case. "Let us return, then!" He stepped aside to let Nibiria pass first, clearly willing to let her lead the way.

Yung Rinan

Late Morning | Just Outside of Hearth | Entering the Hamlet

Big wheels turned, creaking and squeaking as the old wagon dipped and bumped its way through the field between the ancient Monastery and the Hamlet known as Hearth. What the monks often referred to as “the road” to the village proper was, in reality, anything but. Since the pious dwellers of the temple had long since detached themselves from the worldly machinations of the world beyond their walls, neither they, nor the “Heartheans” had taken much time or spent much effort into developing the space between their two homes. What amounted to the path for the wagon was simply a meticulously measured route that best avoided the worst of the slopes, dips, and stones that dotted the fields north of the Hamlet; this planning had been done by the monks not too long ago as they began steadily reaching out into the society they had once cloistered themselves from.

They had done their best to mark the way: on either side of the wagon’s progress, it was flanked by pairs of narrow wooden posts on either side, hammered into the ground, with a roughly even spacing between each pair. Even with these delineators, however, there were no guarantees. While the Monastery had done its best to maintain their road, the lack of any actual infrastructure meant that the terrain could change on them; even if only slightly, altered conditions from weather, sentient actions, animal activities and the like, could make the road more or less difficult to traverse one day than it had been on the previous. Of course, this meant relatively little to anyone purely traveling on foot, as anyone with a stable pair of feet beneath them could negotiate the earth without much issue… But for anyone hauling a wagon, it presented quite the challenge.

As his luck would have it, Yung Rinan had managed to land himself on wagon pulling duty on this particular day. Beads of sweat fell from the half-elf’s cheeks as he manhandled the cart out from a particularly steep rut in the ground. The wagon dislodged from the rut with a bounce as it settled back down. It shook from side-to-side as it hit the ground. Ringing from behind Rinan, there came a clatter of metal implements, chiming loudly in five-tone harmony, accompanied by a thud of wood against wood as the large taiko drum settled aggressively back into the cart. A pair of monks tending to the sides of the cart scrambled silently to ensure that the large drum wouldn’t roll and damage their hand-pans.

The young monk stopped pulling, and turned to check that his brothers were ok, only to be met with a light whack to the face. The stern face of his superior, Elder Feng, stared at him, giving a lowering gesture with his hands, bidding Rinan to go more easily; the Elder tapped the top of his head, and pointed at the drum. Rinan looked more closely, and nodded, noticing that the calfskin stretched across the top of the percussive instrument had seen better days, and might not last a day at the market; if they were lucky they might draw in enough funds to replace it.

Grabbing hold of the wagon’s handles once more, Rinan grunted, to the dismay of Feng who put a finger to his lips with an even sterner glare, and heaved the wagon forward. Rinan quickly tightened his mouth shut, and continued on towards the Hamlet. He hoped that the effort of hauling the instruments would be worth the result. It had been a long shot for Elder Feng to convince the High Elder to allow them to attempt a public performance. The Monastery had, in recent months, found itself dried up on funds to spend at the market. They had tried seeking donations, but Ingrid, the town guard, had stamped out their efforts as “panhandling,” and shooed them out of the village with only a few copper pieces to show for their troubles. That was when Feng, once a wandering bard, suggested he take his shamisen, a few metal hand-pans, and the taiko, into the village, to put on a performance for the people while they busied themselves on Market Day.

While the High Elder was far from restraining his disdain for using their sacred ensemble for “entertainment,” he conceded when he saw how diminished the provisions had become. Assured that proceeds would only go into supplies and the maintenance of their temple, he allowed for Feng to lead his ‘troupe’ of musicians to market and put on a show for the people as they shopped. This, perhaps, would at least keep the giant of a guard off their backs.

Rinan, however, would not be among the performers. Lacking much sense for the arts of sound, his role in the day’s activity was purely to assist in getting the instruments from the temple to the village center.

Some time later, he brought the wagon to a halt in an empty spot in the market. It was already abuzz with activity, and the monks, more than usual, were drawing an awkward attention to themselves; anyone who had suspected that the monks of the Monastery on the hill weren’t entirely right in the head might have felt their suspicions validated as Rinana hoisted the large taiko off of the wagon and onto its stand. The monks’ “band” spread themselves out on a circular rug, about six feet in diameter. The percussion instruments set up to the back half of the rug, with Feng, shamisen in hand and already tuned, at the front and center.

With his own work done until the market closed or they were kicked out again, Rinan took to wandering about the village. It had been a while since had come through personally, and some things had changed; he noticed a wealth of newcomers had arrived since his last visit. Moreso, he noticed that a large, once rundown building, had been rebuilt into an ‘adventurers’ guild,’ whatever that was. Though the bell began to chime from the guild building, Rinan gave it little notice for the moment. Instead, he walked along the market until he spotted the preposterously tall figure of the local librarian. The half-elf had occasionally spent time in the library; though he never checked books out, he would usually find himself a book with useful information, such as new martial forms he could practice, and less useful materials such as poorly written and misinformed guides to meditation.

To the monk’s surprise, the librarian had brought a small collection of texts out into the market. Was he looking to sell? Rinan swiftly made his way to the cart of books, and quietly began perusing while the librarian and his acquaintances were distracted by the arrival of a child.

Boro simply nodded as the conversation turned towards potions and magic. As Saya and Zrer continued their discussion, Boro turned to find a young girl approaching, another one of his patrons. He smiled cheerfully under his hood. It is good that a love of reading has been fostered in at least one of the village children so far!

"Oh my friends, that must be another patron, excuse me while I check in on her!"

He ambled a few steps closer to the little girl, lowering his wheelbarrow and crouching down slightly so his tall frame wasn't as tall. With a wave, he tried to use his magic to send a couple of colorful picture books flapping their wings like butterflies toward the girl.

"Hello youngling! It is good day for more books! Would you like one of these? Or are you up for something more challenging this time?" In his wheelbarrow, he pulled out a few junior novels and kept them on standby, with more words and fewer pictures. Perhaps she was ready to try some more difficult reading?

"Uh well I just do not like talking about it but you see." Zrer still hesitant but will finally let out after taking a calm deep breath. "You see I used to be able to use magic and after an incident... I can no longer use magic so I have been seeking a cure to restore my magic." Zrer sighed and awkwardly scratch the back of his head.

"It is a sore subject for me and I have been trying to cure it myself but with little success and would you be willing to help me with this?"

He does need help with this at this point he thought. Maybe she can help him and but he tried not to overthink it. Zrer almost did not notice the new arrival and gave a friendly wave as Boro started to talk to the girl about books. Zrer already has the help of one person so maybe having one more person to help him with restoring his magic would not be so bad.

Nibiria

Interacting with: @Zeroth (Goh)

Location: Garden

Action: Conversation

Emotion: Mischievously Elevated

Nibiria narrowed her eyes, before she sighed. It wasn’t like Goh was wrong. Her medicines were varied in their natures; some were powders that could be spooned into drinks, and some were poultices that were rubbed in and bandaged. Not to mention, she had various herbs that were dried, ready for sale; parsley, cilantro, oregano - just to name a few. Heck, she could even put together a few [Basic First-aid Kits] to promote her business, and pull back some customers from that pesky Elf across the way.

Perhaps, there was some worth to better exploring this Market Day. “I will need time to prepare,” Nibiria says. “Please, do not wait on me. I must take stock of my things, but I will be along in due time.

Not waiting for Goh to answer, Nibiria would head inside, and take her cabinets to task. Her webs would snatch at jars, powders and gels, and bring them to her hands, before she fetched sealing jars that were just large enough to hold a few doses of powder or a few bandages of salve, and a repurposed, wooden lunch box with a sturdy clasp. Inside, she’d fit a pair of scissors, a needle, a small spool of her enchanted spider thread, and a roll of bandages woven from her hemp. After which, she would write down neatly scripted instructions for what the kit contained, what the kit could do, and pondered on a price.

She would ponder this, as she rolled herbs into bundles, and grabbed a bouquet of pressed flowers for the children; mostly wildflowers with a few teasing roses mixed in.

Alright...” Nibiria says, with a cart of goods, “To Market Day!” she cheered, before looking around with a blush on her frighteningly pale cheeks, “...for the children, of course.

"An accident, you say...?" Saya responded, rather intrigued. She knew that some of the ruins outside of town that laid deep within the surrounding forests were still largely unexplored, so it was possible that if he stumbled into one of them and got caught in some sort of trap or was exposed to a strange substance, it could've very well trigger his current condition.

"That's certainly is unfortunate..." She said. "I'd rather not think on how it would be if I were in that position. However, in order to help you, I think it'd be better if you elaborated further."

Walking up a bit to Zrer until she was quite close to his person, Saya pointed out her index and middle finger at the man. A tiny wisp of energy had formed at the tip of said fingers, about the size of a pebble, it glowed with a peculiar light. She then ran the wisp around his entire body, starting at the head and working her way down from there. Was there perhaps a reason to this invasion of the man's personal space?

"Right now, I'll start with identifying any abnormalities within your body that may being causing your ailment. While I do that, can you tell me where this occurred and what exactly were you doing at that time?"
