Anyways, Ridlins, those torches aren't supposed to be lit that way... there's some other, stranger way to light those torches. Basically, I'd like you to edit your post, please.

Just a hint as to what, exactly can light the fire...
It's abundant, yet sometimes scarce.
It's simple, and incredibly necessary.
Every living being is made of mostly of it.
Usually, fire and it don't get along.

I know it doesn't rhyme, but I didn't need it to, they're all just one-sentence hints. It's okay if you can't figure it out, I'll have Anthony accidentally figure it out on his own in the next post. If you're willing to edit your post in to have one of the characters figure it out, then go for it.

Orwell, oil would've worked. 'Cause first line's rather obvious, second line points out simple composition (arguably simpler than water), yes we have oil and therefore hydrocarbons, and fire burns oil.

The 'doesn't get along with fire' refers to something putting out fire, rather than making it better. Anyways, Ridlins got the answer, which was water.

Well, oil is pretty much 'killed'/burnt/'murdered' by fire.
