Justice League Unlimited - The only way is JUSTICE

The Justice League had been crippled. In the last several weeks the team had been wrecked between protecting their homes as well as the rest of the world. Batman was suffering back injuries after a battle with some organized Venom junkies in Gotham. Superman as well as several members of the expanded Justice League were killed or injured in the battle for Metropolis against the forces of Apokolips and Kalibak. While Aquaman was dealing with an uprising in Atlantis, the Green Lanterns (Hal & John) dealt with Durlan space pirates on the edge of the galaxy. The Flash and Wonder Woman were the only big guns left.

At the request of Batman, Mister Terrific was tasked with the Unlimited Protocol. After learning of the existence of an organized society of super villains, it was the only thing Batman knew to do if the League was ever taken down to three or less active founding members. Legacy heroes as well as elder statesman types tied to the Justice Society, former Titans, Outsiders, members of the Justice League International, time lost heroes from the Legion of Superheroes, as well as completely new heroes were all accepted into the Justice League Unlimited to form the largest group of superheroes ever known. The Martian Manhunter came out of semi-retirement to help with the recruiting and used the neural network to contact anyone the League had dealt with in the past as well as young metahumans looking to become new heroes. Even telepaths in the comics needed giant computer rooms for such a task, but the Martian was more powerful than anyone realized. Terrific had managed to get several dozen heroes in the loop, the Martian contacted nearly a hundred.

With the help of the Flash (Wally West), Terrific set up several teleporters around the United States as well as several spots associated with other teams of heroes. Just outside of Metropolis and Gotham, Titans T Tower, the Justice Society Brownstone, the Justice League International HQ in Europe, as well as other locations seemingly more random all had teleporters built to get heroes to the orbital HQ… the Watchtower. There were also around three dozen civilians stationed on the satellite to assist the League with maintaining the base that operated in shifts, some of them even lived on the satellite.

And there’s the new set-up. The Justice League is down and out. Recruiting has hit a fever pitch. My most well received RP series to date has been the JLU stuff, so I figured if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Based on the JLU cartoon series [to an extent] this RP will follow an expanded Justice League roster like nothing before it. These team rosters are always unique and I hope to see a few interesting takes on existing heroes as well as a few originals. This RP takes bits and pieces from the various DC comics related media, including the previously mentioned animated series as well as the many eras of comics, and animated films. The old JLU included most of the different collections of heroes I’d already mentioned with members from the Seven Soldiers, Freedom Fighters, JSA, etc. all joining this unlimited League. For story purposes several of the big guns have been written off the table, and just so everyone is on the same page the expanded JL that fought the forces of Apokolips mentioned in the RP synopsis looked something like this….

I hope to get between 8-10 players for this, with players also having the option of a background Leaguer to use sparingly in their posts or for me to use as cannon fodder when new threats emerge. The Flash, Wonder Woman, Mr. Terrific, and the Martian Manhunter will be NPC’s and mentors to the rest of the group. CS requirements will be pretty standard with a bit towards the end for ‘Potential Storylines’. If I go with an episodic type of format like I did in the past JLU games I want to do a few episodes centered more on individual members. So if you’re assuming the Beetle or Zatara legacies, have an arch enemy who may come after you, ties to shady shadow organizations, make sure if you want it in the RP for the rest of us to deal with its mentioned!

If there’s enough interest I’ll post the CS requirements as early as tonight. Who’s game?

Powers
The Doctor's abilities are derived from strange technology that only he understands. He has many tricks up his sleeves, which typically take the form of handheld gadgets that Doctor Euclid uses to navigate the multiverse, and ponder the things that no human mind was meant to discover. Armed with a technological talent, knowledge of the great beyond, and all the unknown, the Doctor aids his fellow agents of justice in getting the drop on his enemies.

Locutor Clock: The cornerstone of Doctor Euclid’s arsenal is a mysterious device that resembles a pocket watch. The Locutor Clock keeps time relative to any place that can be physically reached, and allows for teleportation to these places if the Doctor can calculate the coordinates. Any place that Doctor Euclid has been to is automatically logged in a memory device that exists in the fourth dimension, anchored to the Locutor Clock. In a way, the clock is an inconceivably advanced computer, meaning it can be altered to communicate with others, or download information from various places.

Unlock most computers, however, the Locutor Watch does not contain a firewall. It would take a very clever individual to understand the strange device, but such an individual could theoretically obtain every possible piece of information from it if they got their hands on it. A lot of that would entail archived media from books to television shows, but the majority of the Locutor Watch’s data is coordinates to many places, such as ground floor of the Watchtower.

Entropic Needle: A somewhat alien pistol without a trigger. Doctor Euclid fires the Entropic Needle simply by willing it to shoot a target, which then experienced the chaotic disorder of the universe. Atoms unravel, and energy dissipates into a burst of heat, in a moment of what is essentially vaporization. The effect is not particularly explosive, only taking out a chunk from living targets no larger than a basketball.

Certain targets, such as those made of pure energy are more vulnerable to the Entropic Needle in general, where entities of a supernatural origin might not be affected at all. Examples of those safe from cosmic gunfire include ghosts, mental projections and beings of pure thought.

Mask of Thought: The Mask of Thought is a device that conceals Doctor Euclid’s face. It resembles a helmet full of swirling green and purple colors, but also wraps around his neck, and expands his mind’s authority over his corporeal form to pick and choose which fundamental forces act on it. Doctor Euclid’s body does not age, and he can survive in the vacuum of space, or withstand gravity equivalent to that of a white dwarf. Time does not affect the Doctor, nor does the law of entropy that requires him to consume energy.

Doctor Euclid is functionally immortal due to the Mask of Thought. Though he is only immortal in the sense that he has subverted the fundamental laws of the universe such that it cannot kill him. A person armed with a gun is not the universe itself, and thus the Doctor is ironically not bulletproof. His body heals and sustains injuries like an unexceptional human being. He can bleed, and he can break bones.

Weaknesses
Burden of Machines: Doctor Euclid is a man who values knowledge over might. As such, he depends on his gadgets to make a meaningful impact on things. He is not a walking superweapon, and as interesting as it might be to hear the Doctor recite the history of a distant universe from memory alone, that won't win a fight against a villain. Without the Entropic Needle, he can't shoot people, and without the Locutor Clock, he can't teleport or access its data.

The Support: The Doctor isn't a frontline fighter, even if he is a damn good shot. In an encounter with a villain, he prefers to take out their equipment, single out strays and blink behind enemy lines. He does not belong in the fray where the tank-throwing maniacs bang knuckles. Doctor Euclid, despite bending the laws of the universe to render himself exempt from entropy, is just as squishy as an average civilian.

Potential Storylines
Language of the Universe: Somewhere in space, across an unfathomable void and past the edge of what humanity calls the universe, there is a place with a name human beings cannot pronounce. Doctor Euclid calls this place the Great Cradle. The Great Cradle lies approximately seven hundred and eighty two trillion megaparsecs away from the edge of the Milky Way galaxy. In this place where time is unheard of, where thought and identity are the anchor that stabilizes reality, the Doctor fell in love. Despite incalculable odds, an entity from the Great Cradle finds itself on earth. The Doctor's expertise is needed to unravel this occurrence as the Justice League discovers Doctor Euclid's past, why he chose to be a superhero among infinite choices, and how he learned to navigate all of reality.

A Return to Futility: What happens when a man who dances with the universe is blinded to its rhythm? In an unfortunate twist of events, the Mask of Thought is destroyed. It can be repaired, but it will take weeks. In the aftermath, Doctor Euclid's body experiences a lifetime of wear and tear in the span of hours. He must relearn what it means to be an ordinary human being that experiences the burden of living while he works to restore one of his most crucial implements.

Bio: No one knows where the Doctor first came from. One day, he wasn't there. The next, he simply was. A long time ago, Doctor Euclid met a sentient being that opened his mind to the stars. This being, which Euclid began to call Iota, shared with him an understanding of technology millennia beyond human levels, but not quite alien, in the sense that "alien" cannot be stretched to describe the origin of a pistol that collapses years of entropy into a single moment, or a pocket watch that can transport someone to place three thousand universes away. Euclid always had the heart of a scientist, and the soul of an explorer. And so he left this world behind to embark on a journey to a place so far away that no living creature made of flesh and bone could ever set foot there. The Universe was reduced to a notebook in scope, time was a musical composition. To Iota, the universe was but a living organism, and every Big Bang was a single breath passing out of its lungs. On earth, seconds passed, but they were years for Doctor Euclid.

He left Iota with grief in his heart, for their home was a place of ephemeral majesty. Doctor Euclid's comprehension of their people's technology gave him the agency to traverse the furthest reaches of reality itself, in a body that did not age. And yet, one day, he longed for his home planet. Euclid returned home to find earth ravaged by masked monsters- Brutes who pumped drugs into their veins, scientists that frozen people to their deaths, and so many more. Did they have no love for their world? Euclid followed the example of their counterparts, those that called themselves superheroes. Doctor Euclid wandered the planet stopping villains in their tracks, teleporting halfway across the globe at the push of a button to blow up a superweapon before it could be fired and banishing small contingents of evildoers to separate continents. Simple work, but endearing to him no less. There came a day, however, when one of earth's greatest examples of good crumbled. In the weeks that followed the Justice League's demise, Martian Manhunter sought out the Doctor. His escapades and ability to instantly be anywhere he wanted and destabilize matter itself did no favors to conceal his actions. As someone with all the time in the world- literally and metaphorically- The Doctor was more than happy to lend a hand with enacting the Unlimited Protocol.

Sample Post: Doctor Euclid sat atop a skyscraper in California. The last few days had been interesting, some teched up superjunkies took control of a bank’s security network, and no one could get through from any level. The Doctor teleported himself in and vaporized their laser weapons, leaving them defenseless and dropping them right into the middle of the police blockaded. They were defenseless. Police took them in without any resistance once robbers were unarmed. The Doctor was just about to make a jump to Manhattan when he felt something light up under his skull. A voice sounded through his head.

”Doctor Euclid, I am the Martian Manhunter. I am speaking to you through a psychic link, on behalf of the Justice League. We are aware of your actions, and would like to extend to you an invitation to join us.”

Doctor Euclid was familiar with nonverbal communication. The Martian’s voice did not alarm him. ”Martian Manhunter. Quite a surprise, I must admit. I heard of the League’s downfall, my condolences.”

”Then you understand that we are desperate. Your skills would be crucial to our reformation.”

”Indeed. I accept your offer. You are located in earth’s orbit, if I remember correctly.”

”How did you-“

The Martian Manhunter did not have the chance to ask his question. A ripple of green-teal energy erupted beside him in the Watchtower above the atmosphere. In its place stood a man dressed in a purple three piece suit, wearing a strange helmet and holding an equally strange pocket watch.

”Now then, where do we begin?”

Quarvat – Originally a Gravity Rod invented by the original Starman, Farris used his grandfather’s blueprints to convert the weapon into a Cosmic Rod. It grants him enhanced durability, flight, energy absorption and blasts, as well as enhanced speed and strength but not to any huge degree. It also protects him in space as he’s been to the moon and back twice now.

Starman Suit – Made from a type of material used by the military that is bullet proof, fire proof, and stab proof, the suit itself is pretty basic.

Starman Helmet – Taps into the Quarvat to grant Farris the enhanced durability, speed, and strength when in close proximity. Also acts as a two way control to the weapon and connects directly with the wearer’s mind through a temporary patch on the forehead.

Weaknesses:
Without the Quarvat and the helmet, Farris is just a dude in good shape in light body armor. All standard human weaknesses would apply.

Powers:
All of Xavier's powers are based on consuming food and drink. Depending on the amount and the flavors of the food and drink he consumed his powers change drastically. While he himself has a very well-put-together list of every food that causes what, here is a simplified list for the convenience of roleplay:

Mediumship: After eating any food, for the next hour or two, Xavier will see the ghost of those who have not yet passed on. This is usually limited to those who have died recently or those with unresolved business or are otherwise stuck by esoteric means. These dead will appear to him the way their body currently is, and if there is no longer a body to appear as they are merely a voice, a whisper at that. Xavier is also capable of seeing mystical beings hidden by magical means while this power is active. Xavier always keeps a candy bar on him in case he needs to activate the power.

Mind reading: After drinking dark coffee, eating dark chocolate, or other very bitter foods, Xavier gains a very limited ability to see the thoughts and memories of those within their eyesight for roughly a minute. People with mental fortifications or attempting to block his mind reading actively can easily stop him. This power allows him to see picture-perfect memories people have, see their current thoughts and also gives him the ability to see memories someone has suppressed or that have been modified.

Astral Projection: One of the harder powers for Xavier to activate, this one requires very floral flavors or musk-flavored foods. Rose is the most likely candidate for this power, and even then it can be faulty. The power lasts for up to thirty minutes, but usually only last ten or so. When astral projecting, Xavier's body goes limp and is entirely unresponsive. His mind is able to see up to 100 miles away, see through any material except led, and allows him to do so completely undetected except by magical means. When projecting, Xavier has extremely limited ability to interact with the world, only able to move small objects slightly, like a ghost might!

Weaknesses: Xavier has no training in combat, and with no powers to help him fight, he isn't much help dealing with anything below a street level threat. Even then, he's as useful as any other cop on the block. Furthermore, magical and esoteric defenses and barriers stop his astral projection and mind-reading abilities, further limiting his capabilities. Finally, seeing the dead after every meal is a blessing and a curse, as they can be very distracting!

Potential Storylines:
The Ghost who sees Ghost: After using his astral projection ability to spy on an enemy of the Justice League, Xavier finds his soul trapped outside of his body. With his friends in mortal danger, he must find a way to warn them while he can't interact properly.

Don't fear the Spectre: The spectre attacks a member of the Justice League, claiming they've done something profain. After a other heroes plead for them not to kill them and a small fight breaks out, Spectre agrees to let the heroes have 24 hours to prove the innocence of the Justice league member in question.

Hush-hush: Hush has killed and replaced a member of the Justice League, and only Xavier knows after the ghost of the newly killed hero tells him. Now Xavier must prove to the others that Hush is not who he claims to be.

Occult awakening: After retrieving Dr. Occult's amulet, Xavier awakens new powers from touching the amulet. These powers become so useful that Xavier attempts to steal the amulet to covet for himself.

BRIEF Bio: Since he was a child, Xavier could see the dead. People didn't believe him and his family did everything they could to keep him quiet. They tried for years to get the proper medication to help him deal with his 'hallucinations'. This all end when Xavier brings the police to the corpse of recently killed women and explains vividly how she died. This was one of a few murders he would go on to help solve as a child. Eventually, his family relented and accepted his 'gift'. Xavier, however, was haunted by the horrible things he had seen and heard. Traumatized but feeling a need to give closure and justice to those wronged, Xavier took it upon himself to become a policemen and work his way up to being a detective.

Unfortunately, the police were far less accepting of his powers, and after multiple cases went cold because of corruption and a lack of evidence, he found himself disenfranchised with the police force. Instead, Xavier became a private detective who takes justice into his own hands when needed.
