[OOC] Dark Space - A Mecha-Focused Space Opera RP

CNS Spirit of Adventure

The Spirit of Adventure is the first in her class of 12 Spirit-class Fast Frigates intended for use with the first 12 Ranger Corps teams. The ships are equipped with the latest model medium-range hyperdrive and extensive automation, including shipboard AI. All other components are proven off-the-shelf equipment used in other models of Confederation Naval vessels.
Spirit differs only from her planned sister ships by the use of Railguns as her fixed-forward anti-ship armament; the anti-ship Particle Lances intended to equip her sister ships were not ready in time, and railguns were fitted instead.
Onboard facilities are comparatively spacious and luxurious for the size of the ship, a situation achieved via the increased use of AI for ship management tasks reducing crew complement, giving more space for individual facilities. Small, but relatively comfortable quarters are available for all regular personnel, with auxiliary cargo/storage rooms able to be converted for multiple occupancy dormitory/bunk style crew compartments.
Crew quarters are arranged in the fashion of individual small rooms with incorporated washing/sanitation facilities that can be configured for the needs of various Confederation species, all facing onto a centralised shared social space. Several of these will be arranged along corridors. The ship has two mess decks where food is served. Larger lounges also provide social spaces and small, but ample recreational facilities for the size of the crew and ship.

Following with current design theories, the ship's bridge is shielded by heavy blastproof plates in combat or hazardous conditions, along with other large external windows or viewing apertures, as well as the paired port and starboard hangars at the lower corners of the midship.
Both engine nacelles can rotate 180 degrees for braking manoeuvers.
Unusually, no ventral armament is fitted, though it remains to be seen if this is considered a blind spot.
The Spirit class ships are not designed or intended for atmospheric operation, and their hulls are rated for non-terrestrial atmosphere operations only.

Dark Space

It is the year 2184. Humanity has expanded into space and become part of the Interstellar civilization known as the Confederation.
Society is thriving and the galaxy grows smaller as the frontiers expand. But things are stirring, in the darkness of space...

Dark Space is a space opera, real-robot anime inspired, mecha-oriented RP. It follows the adventures of a team of hand-picked specialists who are the crew of a small, specialised Confederation starship. Their job is to investigate suspicious activities, intervene in dangerous situations, and otherwise solve problems that arise across Confederation territory... and beyond.

The players will be part of the crew, each with a specialist role as well as their own mecha, as they take on missions and tasks from the Confederation along the frontier of space and elsewhere. Along the way, they will fight villains, uncover conspiracies, ancient mysteries and discover more about the galaxy as they are drawn into an epic plot that will hinge on their decisions and actions as the heroes of the story - in the best traditions of Real Robot mecha anime.

Rules

I prefer not to have too many rules, but it's good to set a few guidelines and expectations.

• Rule 0: Don't be a dick.
• Rule 1 - No non-mecha pilot characters. It's a mecha-focused game.
• If I don't know about it, it doesn't exist:
  You may have the greatest idea for your character, or for a bit of background. But if you haven't told me about it, then it doesn't exist.
• Play in the spirit of the RP and the setting. Yes, we all know mecha are impractical and unrealistic. But that doesn't mean you get to find loopholes in the logic of the setting to take advantage of. That's not in the spirit of the setting, or the story.
• Your characters are generally intended to be a positive force for good in the setting, who are more heroic, rather than villainous. You don't have to be a goody-goody two-shoes, but being a murderous sociopath, crippled with angsty issues is also not great. This is escapism, and it's supposed to be fun. Also, mentally unstable psychopaths with dubious morality and no empathy don't get chosen as the top of the class for special units with a lot of autonomy.
• You're free to act however you like in character - you don't have to be nice to other characters, and you can be as much of a joker as you like - but keep in mind that in character actions have in character consequences.
• No god-modding, no meta-gaming and no power-gaming. It's just boring and tedious, and adds nothing to the story or your character.
• Yes, there are anthro/furry characters in the setting/RP. Don't be a prick about it, and keep your shitty views about the furry fandom to yourself.
• Absences are fine, just let me know beforehand if you can. Unexpected things happen as well and RL comes first.
• Please maintain at least a minimum standard of grammar and spelling in your posts, as well as an understandable grasp of English.
• It is Not my job to remind you to post. If you do not post regularly because you can't be bothered or are 'too lazy', then I can't be bothered to remind you. I'll just assume you're not interested any more if you keep missing out on posts.
• There is no posting order, posting orders suck ass. The only addendum to this, is that I will make a GM post to set a scene and guide things, then everyone makes a response - or responses - to interact with that post, and one another. Once we have had a 'round' of posts, I'll move things on again.
• Adult Content - covering swearing and sexual situations; swearing is fine as long as it's not to excess or puerile. Romance is fine, and a bit of titillation or racy content, but anything explicit should just be a fade to black.
• As well as the spirit of the game, the mood of the game is important also. The aim is a game with action, drama, epic moments and excitement. There is room for light-heartedness, but this is not a comedy game.

Please post these in the OOC tab when completed, for approval, following the formatting in the sheet.

Examples of a special role would be something like Medic, Marksman, Tech Specialist, Close Combat, Stealth/Infiltrator, Heavy Weapons, Demolitions, Communications, or any other sort of specialisation you can think of. Non-Combat oriented ones are fine, but your character should still be able to fight and also be a mecha pilot.

Mecha Sheet

You may adapt a mecha from another franchise - e.g. a BattleTech Mech, Macross Variable Fighter, Gundam Mobile Suit, or so on. However, it's technology, weapons, etc. must be adapted to fit the setting. For example, Gundam mobile suits would not have beam sabers, Battletech mechs don't have to worry about heat management and would have controls and such equivalent to the other mecha of the setting, and so on and so forth.

Equipment: Anything that isn't necessarily a weapon, but is noteworthy and could be of use. I.e. a shield, particular sensors, drones, etc.
Other info: A flashy paint job, some history of your character's individual machine, etc.

Personality: Ithiel is somewhat shy and reserved, preferring to observe rather than speak up, to watch and wait rather than leap into action. She's endlessly patient and loves nature, spending her vacation time hiking in the wilderness far from civilisation.
History: Ithiel hails from the Inadri colony planet of Kar'siyaervi, a wild and beautiful frontier world with fewer than one inhabitant per square kilometer. Despite its small population, Kar'siyaervi is hugely overrepresented in the Confederation's Ranger Corps, as its people come largely pre-trained for the types of tasks that Rangers are called on to perform - and tend to have the perfect mentality for the job as well. Indeed her parents were Rangers who met in the course of their duties, and it was almost a matter of course that Ithiel would enlist in the "family firm".
Key facts: Like most Inadri, Ithiel is a telepath; in her case, a fairly strong one. She's also trained in the use of the ESPER lens, a device mounted in Inadri-designed mecha that amplifies the pilot's powers to the mecha scale. In the case of telepathy it extends her range tremendously, and also allows the use of thought-controlled drones called Fangs.

Personal Gear: Spike rifle - An unusual longarm that fires projectiles shaved off a block of metallised polymer accelerated to very high velocity by a rail mechanism. Accurate and highly lethal against personnel, it's a long and finicky weapon, which limits its deployment in the field. Usually the mark of a hunter or sniper: Ithiel is very good at both.
Puuk'ko - The everyday carry knife of many Inadri, it's halfway to being a small sword. Distinguished by its single cutting edge on the inside of its dramatic curve, and the deep belly that gives it tremendous cutting power, it's oddly reminiscent of the Terran kukri. A versatile and useful tool, it can be used for cutting, slicing, chopping, hammering, and occasionally even throwing.

Speciality: Long range reconnaissance and direct action. Tracking, stalking, sniping.

Anything Else: In idle moments, Ithiel whittles little knickknacks to keep her hands busy.

Weapons: Long beam rifle - Part of the Inle-Rah's Composite Shield Weapons System, this is a powerful and long-ranged particle beam weapon.
Plasma claw - The second function of the Composite Shield Weapons System features a pair of short-range plasma emitters mounted within the shield that deploy like the claws of a lobster, snapping out rapidly and then returning to battery. This reduces the massive power requirement of the plasma emitters.
Head vulcans - The only internally mounted weaponry on the Inle-Rah, these are simple 30mm vulcan guns that fire a mix of AP and HEDP rounds. They're essentially popguns, useful mainly for antimissile work and distracting the opponent.
Equipment: ESPER lens - Fragile, expensive, finicky, and incredibly complex, the ESPER lens is the apotheosis of Inadri technology. It boosts the natural telepathic powers of its user by orders of magnitude, increasing not only range and power but often also enabling the development and use of new abilities altogether.
Fangs - The Inle-Rah mounts eight Fang thought-control drones, directed by its pilot's will as amplified by the ESPER lens. Each is equipped with a small shield generator and a variable laser that can fire in both pulse and continuous modes.
Stealth system - Reduces the sensor signature of the Inle-Rah to that of a small mammal. Particularly effective in Humanoid mode.
EW pod - Another marvel of Inadri science, this allows the Inle-Rah to operate effectively as a Wild Weasel-type electronics warfare craft. In active mode its emissions render the stealth system useless, but it becomes a potent jammer and spoofer. In passive mode it can detect and analyse enemy emissions semi-independently through the Inle-Rah's expert systems.

Valkyrii

A minor race from the planet Valkyra, winged humanoid clones force-grown and programmed in large egg-shaped incubators known as "Mothers." All clones are female and uniquely telepathic among members of their own race.

Their most notable feature, their wings, are impractical for flight in anything greater than 1/5th standard gravity - Valkyra itself is at 1.17 standard gravities.

Officially, Valkyra is listed as an "abandoned colony" as the first generation to step out of the Mothers over a milleniuum ago found themselves inside the hold of an interstellar cargo ship. The Valkyra had been stripped of almost everything valuable and all logs erased, except for a coded entry FFFF 011E noting the automatic activation of the ship's emergency landing thrusters. Due to a lack of resources, the ship was further gutted as the Valkyrii needed to carve out the rock to expand the natural caverns to protect themselves from the storms that constantly ravage the surface. The ship was of a standard design for its time, and the few remaining artifacts from the ship were sourced to over a dozen worlds once contact had been established.

As Valkyra is a resource-poor world, they usually seek off-world employment as mercenaries, bodyguards, zero-g construction engineers, and biochemists. Valkyrii who have completed four tours with the expeditionary forces can request "free flight," which allows them to go off and explore, including the lease of mothballed equipment.

Personality:Friendly and dependable, rarely forgetting a line on set or smiling for the cameras off of it, it's offset by his obsession with his appearance and seemingly carefree attitude that's frustrated a few of his former commanders.
History:

Former child actor, son of Mounoga, the Valkyrii and James Tyrell. Graduate of the Campbell Military Academy. His sister Mary got him stranded after a location shoot on Ecarro, he spent three months hiking back to civilization, then hired on as an Ordinary Spaceman aboard the merchant ship Musk in order to work his passage back to Earth. On his arrival two years later, a friend of Mary's arranged for Able Spaceman John to be drafted and picked up as soon as he disembarked from the shuttle.

The Navy, concerned about their image, decided to assign the young ensign to the Shore Patrol to keep him away from the fighting - and little chance of advancement. He switched service after his first term to the Army, rising to the rank of Captain with the 27th Special Mecha Unit.

Lepizari is a Indigenous species that are from the planet Geodea forestlands planet of sorts with a mix civilizations as Lepizari are one of the races there. Lepizari are omnivorous creatures despite their rabbit-like appearance. They're more of a roaming Species with likings to interact with other races through and far. Typically for Lepizari, They have the staggaering height ranging from 5'0' up to 6'8" as their height range, with their appearance typically being a humanoid rabbit-like creature with either long or short ears and different fur colors ranging from wherever the Lepizari is born from and their notable trait is their long arms with large forearms, making them quite an odd species in themselves.

The Lepizari species are a trading/Merchant speices by heart and has been trading since the last millions of years towards other races for reasources, foods, and new items as a result But don't think they do just trading, They do other things such as engineering, bodyguarding and anything else in need, Lepizari's known skill is for their keen hearing and strong leg strength.

Traits and Abilities:
- Keen Hearing: Lepizari possess keen and very sensitive hearing for them able to detect some very... sounds that others may not pick up and they're easily overwhelmed by loud noises.

Appearance: Mii's appearance is an adult Lepizari with a height of 6'4", She has a lean and thin build compared to her other fellow Lepizari with her fur being a cream color with black patches on left forearm, head and right ear. Mii's standard outfit is an oil-stained white shirt with blue overalls with a black tool belt, She doesn't wear shoes outside of her combat attire whenever piloting Aerial, Brown heavy duty gloves, a pair of goggles over her head and a silver-white mechanical right arm. She has reddish-brown eyes.
Personality: Michazaru is known by her positive and snarky demanor, which makes her quite a approachable person to be around because of her friendliness. She's a person who is somewhat of a smart mouthed and likes to blab all day about anything technology, but she knows when she pushes too far and often stops herself when seeing the signs of annoyance from someone. She has a painful habit of teasing others and poking a bit of fun about them. By extremity, Mii is a stubborn one, often doing whatever that she puts to mind and doesn't listen to others all quite well at times, But she's obedient and helpful when needed too and will provide assistance.

Inside of combat, Mii is a bit of a competitive lad, Full of energy... Effin' chaotic and literally has a a spam fun.
History: Born on the Planet of Geodea, Mii is only one of the marveled kids within the Tzukazui family, But she had her childhood.... quite as a troublemaker and Mii was that. Causing pranks towards the elderly and often liking to do things her own way caused quite a ruckus back in her hometown of Lysion. But that aptitude changed by the time she was in her late teens having been gifted with skills of automechanics and keen skills of taking things apart and repairing them, Mii was brought into a training school to become an engineer for Mechas but... Michazaru had different ideas, She wanted to become a pilot and went with studying as much as she could and including kinda getting herself into trouble at times for some illegal piloting.... Hey but what the heck? Mii wanted to learn anyway.

By the time she was in her early thirties, She was enlisted into the confederation not that Mii minded but hey, guess some skills did help, since Mii was enlisted into a platoon ranks for technology and repairs for mechs during some few years of Shodane incident. Mii was stationed on a planet during that time and what happened was pretty much not wanting with Mii to talk about it due to her losing some friends and costing her an arm. Gotten herself into the hospital and therapy for some time with this being an excuse to leave her service, due to watching her friend's death and her narrowly escaping her own.

Turns out her Engineering expertise and piloting got some attention from the Ranger Corps after a Few years out of service, But still repairing various mechs, including rebuilding her gundam Aerial Rebuild she received prior to her leaving her service, She was accepted in... after a few setbacks and a bunch of her files being missing in the process but she got in.

You may adapt a mecha from another franchise - e.g. a BattleTech Mech, Macross Variable Fighter, Gundam Mobile Suit, or so on. However, it's technology, weapons, etc. must be adapted to fit the setting. For example, Gundam mobile suits would not have beam sabers, Battletech mechs don't have to worry about heat management and would have controls and such equivalent to the other mecha of the setting, and so on and so forth.

The true, original history of the Zarrah-Kul are an enigma of the galaxy. Their origins are all but unknown, as they are certain that they have existed for so long that they have forgotten even their own mythologies. What is known for certain, however, is that they first reached the stars more than a few thousand years ago and ostensibly come from the temperate forest planet of Kaz-Nagrod. History prior to their rise to the stars is seemingly nonexistent due to censorship from their leadership. What remains are tall tales and bedtime stories passed down from generation to generation, with each retelling growing increasingly corrupted from the truth. There are thousands of contradictory stories at the point; some say they were blessed by an ancient precursor race, or the tattered remnants of one themselves, others speak of their species undergoing several apocalypse before finally ascending to interstellar status, and a few even propose that they come from the Triangulum or one of the Magellanic Clouds.

The truth is, the Zarrah-Kul are a far older race than they are given credit for. They had to rebuild their civilization at least twice, first due to an asteroid strike and the second apocalypse being caused by an alien invasion that they barely fought off. Once they reached advanced spaceflight, they would be further set back by. An orbit filled with debris due to a gigantic war between their colonized moon, Sakeet, and the homeworld of Kaz-Nagrod, as well as the complete annihilation of the settlements on that moon, prevented them from becoming a true spacefaring race for a very long time. Only when they developed sufficiently advanced armor and point defense systems were they able to bypass the Kessler Syndrome in their orbit and reach into the stars. It was also around this time that their squabbling factions were finally united somewhat after a great war between a grand alliance of smaller nations and their planet's superpower. They would first meet the Confederation a few decades after they first reached interstellar status, and joined it soon after.

The Zarrah-Kul Ascendancy is the unified local government of most of their species as part of the Confederation, though there are several primitive planets within their sphere of influence, which they guard zealously against bandits and raiders. The Ascendancy is, by principle, vehemently against uplifting less advanced races, instead preferring to watch them from afar until they're judged sufficiently advanced to contact as near equals.

As a race, the Zarrah-Kul are crow-like avians with black feathers, though their heads have hair and their beaks have sharp, serrated teeth. They stand between 5’1” and 5’8” on average, with no significant difference between the sexes. Their most well-known trait is their absurdly strong memory; they can often still remember the smallest details of an event after many years have passed. Conversely, Zarrah-Kul are sometimes known to carry grudges for literal centuries, and at times such grudges evolve into one-sided multi-generational feuds as they take out their frustrations at the descendants of those that wronged them. They typically live for 300 years, though a significant number have turned themselves into cyborgs, prolonging their lifespans even more. It is known that some mechanize themselves purely to spite their perceived enemies, seeking to outlive them and urinate on their graves.

Conversely, Zarrah-Kul culture places great importance on loyalty and friendship. Because of their species’ old habit of huddling during cold winters, they have always been comfortable with close contact, and have been described as “very enthusiastic at hugging.” They also purr like cats when they're pleased or exceedingly comfortable.

Species Details & History

Lithe and hairless with human-like height. They are omnivorous, tetradactyly and digitigrade with dense musculature and bones. They have powerful lengths of tendons and a thin cartilage-rich tail, the tip of which suggests it was an appendage used for hunting small fish in primordial days. These features allow them to have a powerful total-body contraction. Utilizing their substantial ligaments and facia to brace their organs and restrict blood flow enables them to withstand much higher G-forces than most races. Kriyuuans have black pearly eyes with shimmering striations that surround the pupil. There is noticeable eye-shine even during the day which some find off-putting. Females can have a variety of cartilage crests about their heads and spine which can stiffen with emotional stimuli, it too evolved from a method of protection; males having no crest but thicker trunk and neck. Their skin color is between a sand to grey and grey-teal. Kriyuuans are in distant relation to an amphibious mammal and have a deep relationship with waterside life. They can hold their breathe for many minutes and handle hundred-meter depths in pressure. They have an affinity for tool use, and while a very agile species, don't yet have much potential in hand-to-hand fighting.

Kriyuu is the 5th planet in the Gaol system at the edge of frontier space on Confederate starmaps. Characterized by high humidity, Hot days, and frigid nights. The seasonal changes of which are less noticeable than earth. The planet is about 1.2x the earths mass, 27% ribbons of land, 31% saltwater, 42% freshwater which is one of its greatest galactic commodities besides amphibious agriculture equipment, unique produce, mineral compounds, and mecha tech.

Despite the Kriyuuan's meek appearance, they are historically a war-mongering race who otherwise have strong agricultural systems and aqua-farms. The flux number of oligarchy's that constituted their species were locked in ritualistic wars. Land or resource competition became scarce as civilization grew. They fought for ascendancy in status, skill, and spirit. This ceremony of small-scale battle was the catalyst for innovation though it digressed progress to near double that of human's path to the stars. Their early years of interstellar travel saw the expansion of their ritual wars with the lack of collateral concern. They are one of several pioneers of mecha technology, accomplishing a uniquely quality practical craftmanship and fighting independent of alien influence. Although, their frames were not like mecha today as what defined their wars were different. By modern times they would incorporate alien designs to address the many varying threats of the galaxy and their own outlawed conventions.

During the second Interstellar war between the Solar Hegemony and Galactic Confederacy, the Illyxn Armada —the dominant party on Kriyuu, governing off-world matters and a significant portion of the planet —sided against the GC, which at the time had more restrictive unifying policies, albeit necessary for their objectives. They blockaded key routes around their recognized zones to SH targets, disallowing the GC advantageous strategies which resulted in costly decisions. One standoff between an Illyx patrol and distressed Confederate Commander provoked an attack from the Kriyuuans which sparked another war front. Officially the Kriyuuans were in league with the SH despite near limited solidarity. During the war no direct aid was provided between the two factions except that the SH took advantage of this distribution in forces to make their own moves.

The Kriyuuans take great pride in their militant class and constructs, used only for specialized conflicts and their ritualized battles. Because of this they lacked the infrastructure and numbers to withstand a force as large as the GC. The sheer scale and versatility of the GC strategems overwhelmed the Kriyuuans void-space and combat prowess within a year. Their military was leashed to Kriyuu, space-lanes were stripped, and heavy sanctions imposed.

Many years later, with a crippled galactic presence, a Kriyuu patrol and exploration fleet made contact with the Qu'ren. The infestation of known confederate space leaked into the two secondary Kriyuuan occupied systems, resulting in the loss of nearly all life and both systems. At this point their Armada had been reactivated against the GC charter. When a scouting swarm breached the Gaol system, the kriyuuans made a desperate attempt to destroy them. The loss of Thyr'yu, a habitable moon marked the end of all offworld progress. They accomplished containing the Qu'ren on Thyr'yu with a heavy toll before they could manage engaging with the greater hive. The Alpha Kriyuu technocracy pleaded with the thinly spread Confederacy for support, quickly negotiating a treaty that would indoctrinate them into the GC. For recieving a force to purge the swarm around Thyr'yu, they offered in total their remaining fighting forces to quell the rest of the enemy around Confederate space. This marked a new era of interspecies connection and politics for Kriyuuans.

The peoples of the Confederate Technocracy of Kriyuu (CTK) number 1.6 Billion in the galaxy, with 95% remaining in their home system. Accordingly, they account for a considerably small percent of representation in the Confederate council. They are generally stoic and conceited by nature. Specialization in different professions grants near equal measure of respect, and great competition. They are instinctually driven to grow along their family unit and compete with the greater society. Their primal motivations for freedom or power are less than that of humans, which loans one of their notable traits; their reliability. A caveat is their skepticism and criticism of other species in the Confederacy.

In their home star-system they still conduct ritual conflicts, though they have been forbidden from expanding by the GC charter post war. Many of their people still refer to the mechanica military as the Illyxn Armada with pride despite it being officially the CTK Wing which commits auxiliary forces to the Confederacy.

Kriyuuan example

Appearance: Mercil is an average height greyish variety Kriyuu. He has some notable pock marks along the left side of his face, shoulders, and arms from shrapnel wounds and a distinct pair of long deep wrinkles under the eyes beside his nose. His skin is slightly course and dry from prolonged life in sterile space. Apart from being more muscular than average for his species, the only difference is his tail seems to have been severed by several inches.

Personality: Mercil embodies a cool-headed demeanor, navigating the chaos of interstellar diplomacy and combat with a calm precision that puts others at ease. With a sardonic wit that often catches the wrong side of colleagues, Mercil delivers it in most tense situations, using humor to defuse tension with a playful yet insightful and validating perspective. He's one to appreciate criticism, and more than welcome in returning it. Known for his reliability, Mercil has consistently come through in high-stakes scenarios, earning the respect and trust of his peers. Still, in equal measure behind this curtain is cynicism, that there's some truth in all his sarcasm and a deep-rooted sense of disdain for connecting with many Confederate "types". While others may flinch at the unpredictability of the cosmos, Mercil approaches missions with stubborn resolve, blending a keen strategic mind with a dose of levity that reminds everyone that even in the depths of space, a deep breath and steady hand can make all the difference.

History: Mercil was born on a northern peninsula of Kriyuu to parents who were eel farmers, a profession requires wrangling freshwater leviathans with special equipment. A labor he and his kin would toil with until they finished primary education. Afterwards, at 16 he became one of the draftees for military service, an honor in their culture, and necessity to address the looming Shodane threat. He was sufficiently trained in time to be deployed as a ground scout for a mecha squadron. He had one deployment, and thats all he needed to experience the brutallity of machine warfare and the marvel of Mecha combat.

Having survived the war, at 23 he had Confederate standard secondary education, lanced an eel unaided, succeeded the trial of Pirinl pass, and laboriously studied and maintained Chimenti mecha. He was then chosen to squire for one of the Altra-Cavalier, a pilot of which this name bestowed. At 25 he received the approval of his mentor to enter the pilot program, having the acceptable knowledge, skills and discipline to begin.

At 27 he was outfitted in his first mech, a BF-33v, and took the title Altra-Errant, being assigned to one of the battle campaigns along the equator. After three years of exceptional service he competed for a position in an advanced program to pilot the newer DMVF-44, but didn't make the initial cut by a hair. Sometime later he would be notified of his admission after one position opened.

At 31 he was assigned to the CTK Wing and began his Interstellar journey. He served in numerous roles patrolling hazardous space in the name of the Confederation, representing his people, and earning some few measures of honor. He returned once to his home at 35 to participate in an interplanetary campaign where he faced opposing tribe mechs in space. He continues to pilot the QØS and has now been recommended to the Ranger Corps (CRC) for a new assignment

DMVF-44 Chimenti History & Q0S Service History

The VF-44d Chimenti is based on the core unit of the Illyx Armada the Chimenti-22v, redesigned and dubbed the BF-33v for better synergy with Confederate forces after their transition into the CTK. Its last overhaul came with the technology for variable fighters which saw the advantages of fast airborne craft finally round out the atmospheric capabilities of mechs. The technology for a stable GERWALK Mode has not been implemented, favoring other capabilities. Complications in the transition resulted in them being fielded a decade later than most of the confederate variable fighters, but also the improvements answered many flaws in the original design. Still, they face pressure from the GC to mitigate the expense of their pilots; there is no ejection module or lethal-G countermeasures. It also currently has limited modularity options.

The QØS has a short service history of 8 years, of which it was flown by two pilots. The first perished during his second round of combat with a rival faction on Kriyuu due to injuries sustained during their remarkably turbulent battles. The second is Mercil, who pilots with 3 confederate combat banners. During his service with the Confederate Navy the QØS has been deployed as an anchoring point for friendly and civilian vessels in several hostile territories. On two occasions fending off attacks from a pirate squadrons near Rencillus B. The second banner is for a deployment in support of routing a coup on a weaker Confederate planet in civil war, threatened to collapse and fall from the alliance. The third banner is representative of the confederacy honoring the Kriyuuan ceremonial skirmishes, which are true battles on all accounts and could influence their standing in the GC. He has claimed victory in 2 skirmishes, defeating 5 mecha in total of rival factions.

For the purposes of the mission this unit has been coated in radar absorbent grey paint, unique from most of the Chimenti models which have distinctive patterns and colors. Its missile batteries and secondary guns were also designed with internal bays in order to help reduce its radar signature.

She wraps her arm much like her face, but a metallic hand is still fairly visible. Her legs are far more obvious, ending in not a conventional foot, but a flat point with an extended heel joint. Her uncovered right eye is still organic, but has been enhanced with a cybernetic overlay. Her left eye, which she often covers, is synthetic, glowing a discolored red light. Integrated datalinks sprout from her head like horns and end where her ears would have been.

Personality:
Kettu was shaped by the harsh realities of her war-torn world. From a young age, she saw the raw, devastating power and terrifying forces of Shodane. When one is traumatized as such, they compartmentalize their trauma in two key ways. Either repression or obsession. Kettu is the latter, possessing a deep-seated obsession with technology and its consequences. However, the trauma remains, especially after her grievous injuries in her later life. As a result, she has a poor time understanding people and expressing herself. Her face rarely displays emotion, made all the worse by her injuries and heavy augmentation. The scars of her encounters with Shodane, with the war, cut deep.

Despite this, if one were able to see past this somewhat cold surface, one may find Kettu deeply cares for her comrades and companions. Someone doesn't want to lose anyone in her team, despite her psychological hangups. Thus when you hear that monotone, almost robotic voice of hers calling over the comms, know that there is still a person behind it.

History:
Kettu Milosc was born in the city of Verenth, a once-thriving metropolis now reduced to rubble due to decades of unrelenting conflict. Her early years were spent in the shadow of war, her childhood marked by air raid sirens and the distant echoes of artillery. Kettu's parents, both engineers, worked tirelessly to fortify their home and community against the constant threat of invasion. They instilled in her a resilience that would become her greatest asset.

At the age of eleven, Kettu lost her parents during a brutal attack on their neighborhood. Orphaned and alone, she was forced to fend for herself in the chaotic aftermath. Kettu learned to scavenge for food and supplies, developing a keen eye for useful materials amid the debris. Her mechanical aptitude blossomed as she repurposed broken machines and weapons, teaching herself to fix and create in a world where survival depended on ingenuity. Yet as the war raged on, for the civilians stranded within the hellish occupation of the Shodane, escaping unscathed was an impossibility.

She suffered grievous wounds, both physical and psychological when the Shodane forces assaulted her refugee camp. Thankfully, she was rescued by a Confederation assault team but was the only survivor. Taken in by the Confederation forces, she grew up in the Confederation, eventually joining in their military as a way to thank the ones who saved her. From then on, the Confederation military became her new home, her new family, and her new purpose in life which she has diligently served for these many years...

"When we fought them, it wasn't a war. Not by any traditional definition. Do you wage war against a hurricane? This is something beyond that. What they did to us... What they did to them. When the brain experiences high trauma, what does it do? If the consciousness is strong enough, it will seek to survive it. As such, we retrain and grow to handle the damage. Much like how we tear our muscles to grow stronger, we do so with our minds. This is how Kettu Milosc survived. When they came for her camp, they quickly found and dragged the young girl away along with many others. The Shodane did not take prisoners for conventional reasons. Some were thrown screaming into grinders and turned into bio-fuel to sustain their glutinous war machine.

But the deep truth, the real truth of Shodane was that the Confederation was wrong. It was the subroutines, spin-offs of codes, and event handlers that ran with that mindless efficiency and logic. "Lack of imagination"? If Kettu could still laugh, she would. Logic can be the flower garden of creativity, and Shodane was quite curious about these festering, wriggling, screaming creatures that so infected its beautiful galaxy.

As such, Kettu was one of the playthings of Shodane. She learned that this, cold, logical machine was in fact anything but that. For it had hatred for her, for her people for every disgusting piece of biomass in the galaxy. Many of the augmentations she currently has, such as her synthetic eye, were implanted by Shodane. They were implanted crudely, mockingly. "With this, you are a thing that learnt to walk which ought to crawl may finally stand.” Was the voice echoing in her head? It spoke with the voice of a thousand. The voice of one.

That is why she covers them up. Repression, to try and hide from the constant reminders of the horrors she witnessed. Of those who wished to be dead but could not die. To muffle that voice that continues to echo through her memories.

She was recovered by the Confederation, one of the only ones who survived "removal" from that facility. The Confederation themselves had little idea of what to do with her. She was one of the few recovered both alive and intact. They studied her during her teenage years monitoring the strange augmentation. While they could understand parts of it, the whole was a mystery for everyone. Of course, they could not keep her imprisoned forever, so released her into the care of their military. There they found that her augmentations seemed to possess a universal interfacing with their tech, allowing the ability to synch with artificial systems that would otherwise overwhelm normally augmented people. Thus, with these strange augmentations and her natural aptitude, they trained her in the role of a pilot and specialist in mechanized chassis.

This was all at Kettu's request. She was given the option for reintegration, for employment elsewhere, but her life was forever changed. For she kept one detail hidden from the analysts, the scientists, the interrogators, and her mentors. A feeling, a presence, a dream in the deepest recesses of her mind. Somewhere out there, among the stars, they call to her, a call that disgusts and enrages her to her very core...

Skip Drive
Despite their name, skip drives are actually a heavily modified and stripped-down nearlight gravitic compensation module, not an engine. Normally employed to counter the g-forces of nearlight acceleration, when applied at a smaller scale the point gravity well they generate can accelerate targets at a considerable fraction of the speed of light, while still applying a compensatory force to prevent pilot injury. This system thus can accelerate the mech or an ally to a nearby space at incredible speed, quickly redeploying the unit. However, due to the high power demand and stress inflicted on the chassis, this is more of an emergency measure.

Active Protection System
Developed as a compact version of an active threat defense screen commonly employed as a fixed emplacement system, this deployable ADS utilizes a comprehensive scanner array to continually monitor local space for incoming ballistic threats. Once locked on, a network of independently tracking gimbal-mounted turrets engage low-velocity projectiles entering the kill envelope with a combination of anti-sensor pulse laser jamming and hard-target interception via counter-ballistic burst launchers. A system stop gap to help prevent the shields from being overwhelmed by high-volume attacks.

Type-3 Projected Shield
The shield emitter plates on this chassis help provide an extra layer of protection against ballistic and low-intensity energy threats. While not as robust as other designs, this shield when combined with the ADS allows for excellent defense against most low-mid threat weapons.

Other info:
There is a notable lack of personalization on this mech. Otherwise, the Pharos chassis, while planetside capable, is at home in the vacuum of space, intended to support boarding actions and internship warfare. As such, it features fairly durable armor to withstand much of the battlefield debris and provide an extra layer of protection for the pilot should all else fail. Kettu modified this design into an EW monster, so despite no outward customizations, the inclusion of a custom C.A.E.W. system on a Pharos is highly unconventional.

The true, original history of the Zarrah-Kul is an enigma of the galaxy. Their origins are all but unknown, as they are certain that they have existed for so long that they have forgotten even their own mythologies. What is known for certain, however, is that they first reached the stars more than a few thousand years ago and ostensibly come from the temperate forest planet of Kaz-Nagrod. History before their rise to the stars is seemingly nonexistent due to censorship from their leadership. What remains are tall tales and bedtime stories passed down from generation to generation, with each retelling growing increasingly corrupted from the truth. There are thousands of contradictory stories at this point; some say an ancient precursor race blessed them, or they’re the tattered remnants of one themselves. Others speak of their species undergoing several apocalypses before finally ascending to interstellar status, and a few even propose that they come from the Triangulum or one of the Magellanic Clouds.

The truth is, the Zarrah-Kul are a far older race than they are given credit for. They had to rebuild their civilization at least twice, first due to an asteroid strike and the second apocalypse being caused by an alien invasion that they barely fought off. Once they reached advanced spaceflight, they would be further set back. An orbit filled with debris due to a gigantic war between their colonized moon, Sakeet, and the homeworld of Kaz-Nagrod, as well as the complete annihilation of the settlements on that moon, prevented them from becoming a true spacefaring race for a very long time. Only when they developed sufficiently advanced armor and point defense systems were they able to bypass the Kessler Syndrome in their orbit and reach into the stars. It was also around this time that their squabbling factions were finally united somewhat after a great war between a grand alliance of smaller nations and their planet's superpower. They would first meet the Confederation a few decades after reaching interstellar status and join it soon after.

The Zarrah-Kul Ascendancy is the unified local government of most of their species as part of the Confederation, though there are several primitive planets within their sphere of influence, which they guard zealously against bandits and raiders. The Ascendancy is, by principle, vehemently against uplifting less advanced races, instead preferring to watch them from afar until they're judged sufficiently advanced to contact as near equals.

As a race, the Zarrah-Kul are crow-like avians with black feathers, though their heads have hair and their beaks have sharp, serrated teeth. They stand between 5’1” and 5’8” on average, with no significant difference between the sexes. Their most well-known trait is their absurdly strong memory; they can often still remember the smallest details of an event after many years have passed. Conversely, Zarrah-Kul are sometimes known to carry grudges for literal centuries, and at times such grudges evolve into one-sided multi-generational feuds as they take out their frustrations on the descendants of those that wronged them. They typically live for a millenium, though a small number have turned themselves into cyborgs, prolonging their lifespans even more. It is known that some mechanize themselves purely to spite their perceived enemies, seeking to outlive them and urinate on their graves.

Zarrah-Kul reproduction rates are rather slow, as befitting their long lifespans. Their perception of time is somewhat warped, feeling as though years are merely a blink of an eye.

Conversely, Zarrah-Kul culture places great importance on loyalty and friendship (with one another at least, because other long-lived species aren’t very common) because of, again, their strong memory. Because of their species’ old habit of huddling during cold winters, they have always been comfortable with close contact, and have been described as “very enthusiastic at hugging.” They also purr like cats when they're pleased or exceedingly comfortable. They often have a distinct lack of urgency in many things and can be sometimes seen as lazy or naive as they take everything that happens around them in a stride.

Anka is around 5'8" tall.

Personality: Anka has stoic mannerisms, often to the point that he has been accused of being heartless. In truth, when you’re part of a species that lives so long and spends much of that time in petty rivalry and grudges, you tend to take things, even tragedies, in a stride. Unlike the usual preconception of the Zarrah-Kul, though, Anka doesn’t carry century-long grudges, instead usually shrugging and saying, “Alright, that’s fine.”

Anka’s stoicism, however, stands in stark contrast to what can only be a penchant for petty pranks and practical jokes that he practices without so much as a whiff of laughter from his end. And, though he’s not very overt with what he feels, people who have known him will say that he cares, treating others around him without much thought about the fact that they’ll probably die long before he does. He seeks to know them better before they pass; after all, he will always remember, and so the dead will still live on, in a way, in his mind.

While usually stoic and amicable, when slavers are mentioned, Anka becomes cold and distant, filled with a desire to see those criminals exterminated with extreme prejudice.

History:
Anka was hatched on the Zarrah-Kul homeworld of Kaz-Nagrod, and from a young age, was destined for the stars. He was not like most of his race; the majority would rather leave matters of conflict to machines and artificial intelligence, allowing them to constantly pursue their usual artistic passions. By Zarrah-Kul standards, Anka was a maverick. He wished to know more about the universe and the myriad creatures that inhabited it, a desire that would end up placing him with the Zarrah-Kul Expeditionary Forces and eventually, the Confederation Navy. During his century-and-a-half-long career, he would meet many people and species that he would label as “interesting.” As another oddity of the Zarrah-Kul race, Anka actually formed friendships with some, before they eventually passed and left him behind.

Though it might be believed that his long tenure in the Navy means that he would have a great amount of combat experience, this is not necessarily the case. He spent the majority of his time as a backline military scientist, and it had “only” been thirty years ago that he decided to be part of frontline operations by enrolling to be a mech pilot. Still, thirty years is a long time (for others, at least), and so he was chosen to be one of the elite Ranger Corps. Anka is quite excited. How much knowledge can he gain in that elite formation, he wonders?

Shield Generators: The Truth and Reconciliation possesses multiple advanced shield generators.
These shields can act as emergency ablative armor to protect against attacks that could otherwise seriously damage the mech's hull. These can be activated nearly instantaneously, and so they're synchronized with the Truth and Reconciliation's advanced sensors, allowing it to activate specific areas of its shields to block incoming energy weapons.

Advanced Sensor Array: The Truth and Reconciliation possesses an advanced array. the Truth and Reconciliation can accurately calculate the trajectories of incoming attacks, allowing it to either dodge or block them with its shields.

Electronic Warfare Suite: The Truth and Reconciliation is able to conduct electronic warfare with the aim of disrupting enemy communications.

Other info: The Truth and Reconciliation has a passage inscribed on its side, which thus says, “Without guidance, a nation falls, but there is strength in an abundance of counselors.” The mech’s paint job is primarily black with gold highlights, like anything that the Zarrah-Kul build.

Good morning, everyone!

A few updates - first of all, all of the new races you've all been very creative with have been added to the One Note doc with whatever you've posted about them so far. Thank you all for being so creative and adding new and cool stuff! <3

I've noted that a couple of you have put force fields and plasma weapons as part of your mecha loadouts - I hadn't originally intended them to be part of the tech in the setting, but since they're popular, and I was dithering about them myself, I'll go back and add them to the tech part of the background as well.
