The Catherine Langford was built in legacy to one of the key founders of the Stargate Program, with the input of Dr.Daniel Jackson and General Jack O'Neill it was not designated to be a purely military vessel. Instead, it was appointed as a joint venture by all nations and as such was put under direct IOA control with a multi-national crew. However due to the escalation in the war between the people of Earth and their allies and the Lucian Alliance it is fully combat capable on equal par with its sister ships such as the Daedalus, Apollo, Sun Tzu and Odyssey. Yet more ships of the line are under development on Earth for the other nations of Earth such as the first British ship under production, the H.M.S Tempest. Her Captain is the highly decorated Captain Kateřina Černá and her IOA representative is Mr. Adam Williams who leads everything but the military actions aboard the vessel.
In a sign of unity the ship not only carries a multi-national team of Earths finest, but allies from beyond Earth would also have space aboard the vessel. A Tok'ra team of two has been placed on the ship, ever hopeful that they may find a way to replace their Queen Egeria and replenish their diminutive numbers. The Free Jaffa also have a small contingent of five aboard ship in order to hunt out any remaining Goa’uld and try to halt the opression of the ever growing Lucian Alliance. While the surviving warriors and people who once served the Ori have become friends with Earth since the use of the Ark of Truth they refused to partake in this joint venture due to instability in their home galaxy that must be resolved first.
With the rise of the Lucian Alliance and the scarcity of results of new Technology coming through the gate the Langford has been tasked to travel to Ancient planets that cannot be reached by gate or to planets from the Ancient Repository whose gates could not be dialed and link up with planets in the Atlantis Database.
