Shifters

Yeah, So I had this idea for a while and I really wanted to try it out a little bit.

So the premise of this RP is that there are a new form of humans called 'Shifters', people with superpowers. These people are rare among the crowd of normal 'humans' and shows rather simplistic, single abilities. Shifters can have powers that are harmless to very dangerous powers. A Company by the name of 'The Unit of Shifter Protection' was formed to take down, capture and test on shifters to do, governmenty things.

So is anyone interested? Any suggestions and advice would be SPLENDID.

Would there be artificial Shifters created by the government? Also would there be weapons for the company that nullifies the Shifter's powers since not everyone could be a Shifter?

Yeah, artificial Shifters would exist. And weapons would be hard to write per say, but I think i can work it in. and yeah, good thknking animal!

Yeah, this is close to darker than black, but I was thinking more on the lines of infamous second son and heroes per say. Anyways, I think that it would go kind of like this: Shifter powers are simple, SINGLE abilities. I.E Pyrokinesis, Regenerative Healing, or Super-Strength. But you CAN have power mimicry/absorption. and I think how people got these abilities naturally would be kind of X-men maybe?

Sounds interesting. I'd join. The whole single-ability thing would be fun to use. Also, maybe you could make a prison for shifters? Kind of like Curdon Cay in inFamous. Maybe it would start with some shifters breaking out.

I'm interested. I tried to join a superpower RP not long ago but the GM retired before it even started.

I'd like to suggest a very basic addition: generally Shifters don't use their powers (to avoid detection, I suppose), but if they use them for an extended period of time their power "branches off" to a slightly different ability. A good example would be Avatar: The Last Airbender, where Toph developed metalbending from extensive training as an earth bender. We can also set it up so that the Shifters do not not know this and either discover it or are told from an older Shifter who has survived.

It could be as simple as a mild power lasting longer or being more powerful, or as clever as it branching into something knew but connected to the first. After all, there are tons and tons of potential superpowers and isolating only one would be a tough choice. You would have to confirm them, of course, and all initial powers should have a weakness of some kind. It might be necessary, since the government is capable of creating their own Shifters and they could tailor them to defeat people with only one power.

Any of that sound good? Also I'm in.

if its like that then I would be able to understand how this rp would go, absorbtion is another name for mimicry, having a mutation in there genes seems like it would be going the right way.

Also, I've had an idea about how these people discover their powers. They show up when the holder is angry, sad or scared. it's all about the negative emotions (Remember that.)

Yes, but remember what i said: they unlock when the person is scared, sad or angry to a certain extent.

Wait, I just a sweet idea. Scrap the word "power." The people are called Shifters, so let's call the abilities "Shifts." A shift in fire, water, visibility, strength, speed, whatever. You have the ability to shift a fragment of reality into the supernatural. This is called your Shift.

All Shifts have an alternate extension of themselves. It is discovered upon extensive use of the main shift, through concentration/meditation or through adrenaline. This is called your "Alternate Shift," as it is a new power than can be used as easily as the first.

The process of discovery is called the "Bridge." It is coined from finding a connection, aka a bridge, between two separate powers. They have a similar factor or property, in nature, design, impact or toll on the body and mind. In order to unlock your Alternate Shift, you must locate the Bridge between the two. The term has become a highly confidential password among shifters, shared only with other shifters who show the potential and drive to discover it. It is often used in a more discreet manner as a form of communication between shifters. Phrases like "Have you seen the new bridge?" and "I saw (person''s name) on the bridge yesterday" are small talk among normal people. Only other shifters know that it actually means someone has unlocked their AS and that the speaker has met them.
