Name: Republic of Halkirk
Flag:
Capitol: King’s Port
Capitol Population: 225,000
Population: 7 500 000 or 7.5 Million
Major cities: King’s Port - Capital, located on a 2 island chain off the coast and peninsula off the main continent. Home to the largest shipyard in the nation.
Port Berwick - Located on the Emerald Isle, so named for its deposits of the precious stones. Large island, furthest west. Center of the Emerald Bank, main bank of the state.
Racial demographics: Majority Human 95%, 5% other.
Society: The Republic is a maritime nation consisting of many small islands. Since time immemorial the fate of the Islander’s has been tied to the sea. And the sea has shaped the people. Their maritime position has made them less of an aggressive expansionist people, less warriors and turned them into a friendly, diplomatic, mercantile directed people. Islander people prefer diplomacy, and trade to confrontation and war. Neutrality is their position, wealth is their objective.
Law: The law is typical of most nations, murder, theft etc.. are illegal. Most things are punishable by death, but the Republic doesn’t operate under principles of barbarism. All people have the right to a trial in the court system, which operates under the inquisitorial system.
Education: The Republic’s emphasis on trade, has brought wealth to the nation. With this wealth comes a rising standard of living and consequently a demand for education. Likely though, the underclass, and working class cannot afford this kind of high education. Though from the merchant classes, or those who are administrators, nobles, or wealthy can afford higher levels of education. Schooling is done entirely at private insitutions, the state doesn’t pay for public education system. Schooling begins at a young age, teaching language, reading, writing, math, science, history, geography. Passing grade school, leads to colleges, or university.
Notable institutions of education are the Military Academy of Fort Sutherland, a military school for creating moulding naval and army officers, the Republic of Halkirk Royal College of Business, which teaches with the aim of creating the best state administrators and business person’s possible.
Technology: Naval technologies are first and foremost the most important to the Republic. Technologies with aircraft applications are also sought after. Anything with an economic application usually through improvements in the efficiency of production, or resource extraction are sought after. The Republic also see’s what was previously known as magic to be a form of science.
Tax: Individual taxes are low, between 5% and 20%, as the state uses its trade position, and crown corporations to levy more of their income to pay for the state’s expenditures.
Industries: Shipyards, Ammunition, Foodstuffs, Glass & Jewellery, Mining, Clothing (low and high quality), Steel, Fabric and Textiles, Fertilizer
Imports: A lack of the higher quality minerals and techniques for weapon production, the state imports foreign firearms and artillery pieces in lieu of domestically produced versions.
Lumber, the nation consists of many islands, which over the years have largely been deforested. Construction projects and shipbuilding projects require lumber imported from the larger less exploited landmasses.
Metals, again the small islands have been exploited of or lacked higher quality versions of the earth’s mineral riches. Importation of these are necessary.
Exports: The southern islands are home to exotic fruits and vegetables, large plantations operate creating surplus foodstuffs which can be sold abroad. Or these plants are taken to distilleries and wineries and used to create liquor and spirits, these products have added value and are then exported or sold domestically.
Although the nation lacks proper capabilities for certain military hardware, vast deposits of sulphur in the northern islands have allowed the nation to produce high quality powder for use in ammunition. The sulphur is also used extensively for the production of export and domestic use fertilizer.
Being a maritime nation, the Republic has invested a lot in their extensive shipyards, and other naval related industries. The nation can, for the right price construct hulls, or full ships for sale to foreign governments, or simply sell naval supplies.
Renown Associations: The Emerald Bank of Berwick - the largest bank of the Republic, and the central bank of the state. Mints and controls coinage in the Republic. Open to investing in foreign nations or projects.
The Halkirk Merchant Marine- owing direct allegiance to the crown, operating as a crown corporation, the Merchant Fleet operates as a shipping and trading company. The directive of the fleet is to sell its services to foreign business or government, such as transporting goods. The Merchant Marine is loyal to the state, and during times of war will not operate for foreign enemies and will be used by the Republic as part of a war effort.
Government: Constitutional Monarchy. Has an elected component known as the Consular Assembly. The King (currently King Richard V of the House of Halkirk) operates as head of state and possesses one vote in the Consular Assembly. During times of war the King acts as the official head of all branches of the armed forces. The sovereign also is also the center of national pride, unity, identity. Upholding the ideals that Republic and Islander peoples hold to be theirs.
Relations: The Republic’s relation to other government is always amicable, even during times of crisis. The Republic wishes to maintain good relations at all times, and continue the relationships of trade, and investment which are mutually beneficial for all parties involved.

The Royal Navy of the Republic of Halkirk: As a nation composed of islands, the navy is the priority of the state for both offence and defence. The navy is divided into 3 naval groups, Naval Group Northerland, Naval Group Centre, and Naval Group Sutherland
Ironclad Galleass - manned by a crew of 250 sailors, this is a small and fast vessel. Designed primarily for patrolling the coastal and calm sea waters that encompass most of the territory between the many islands of the republic.
Cruiser - manned by a crew of 600 sailors, this is a medium sized vessel. Powered by twin engines, these vessels move quickly and sport heavier armour than smaller vessels. Although they have less manoeuvrability, they have greater firepower.
Battle Frigate - manned by a crew of 1000 sailors, these ships are the largest of the standard naval forces. Even with larger and more powerful engines, they travel slower than their smaller counterparts. They are less manoeuvrable than the other naval vessels. What these ships lack in speed, and manoeuvrability they make up for in their vastly superior firepower.
Naval Group Northerland - 15 Battle Frigates at 1000 man crews, 30 Cruisers at 600 man crews. For a total of 33 000 personnel.
