This is just a list of things we had on old RPG that range from the super obvious to small things. Most of it is pretty low priority, but it's worth posting just so things don't get forgotten in the new site shuffle.

EDIT ADDITION: Better page controls - Now that we have pages, time to complain about them! You're welcome, Mahz. Anyway, basic functionality like first page and last page buttons would be great. There was also some other stuff going on with the old page controls that would be nice to have, like the nearby page numbers to be able to click and skip a few pages at once rather than just the first or last page button. I feel like I'm describing this poorly, so here's an image of the old page controls to show what I mean:

Exact replication is obviously unnecessary, but having first and last page buttons as well as some way to easily navigate to a specific page would be great.

Official Contests sub-forum - Artist of the Month kinda died a long while ago, but Writer of the Month was still going strong with Brovo, Kagamine, and myself managing it. There's already been some people asking about when it might be up and running again, so it'd be nice to be able to get it going some time in the near future. On old RPG it had the WOTM pseudo-mod account to make things work, but I'm sure we can get by without it until you get the whole moderation shenanigans in order.

Profile customization - Super obvious, just saying it because nobody else appears to have done so on new Guild yet. Avatars, info about yourself, blah blah blah, typical profile stuff. People also seemed to like having the ability to diddle with their profiles by changing colors and text and the background and whatnot, so I figure it'd probably be cool to MySpace it up again and bring that functionality back once you get the actually important parts of the forum up and running again.

Visitor messages/profile wall/whatever - Lots of people seemed to use the hell out of VMs, but I dunno if it'll be really necessary with the new PM system being smart and acting like threads. I'm sure there are people who will still want VMs or something like them even with a good PM system though, so yeah, do whatever with this suggestion.

Friends list and the stalker wall - Friends stuff is another "no shit, sherlock" level feature; could also add shenanigans like a foe list if you feel like it, as I'm sure some would like to use it. The stalker wall (thing that showed all the most recent posts from people on your friends list, was the first tab visible when you went to your own profile) is another thing that I don't know if there's actually any great demand for, but maybe people will want it back? I never used the thing and it annoyed the hell out of me that it was the first thing visible on people's profiles, but this list isn't just about what I want back, so I'll keep it on the list.

Searching - Super obvious like profile customization, listing it for the same reason as the profile customization stuff.

List of who's online - There was a thing at the bottom of the front page showing who's online, might be nice to have again. On a related note, if you do implement the who's online thing, invisible mode would be nice to have too.

List of people viewing a thread - Same as above, was at the bottom of the page. Also maybe a list of people viewing a subforum as I've seen on other sites, but meh, I never found that very useful personally.

User post count tracking - Used to be displayed under people's avatars, down with the join date and location (if people had one set), on old RPG. Also had a little stats section in your profile where you could see your average posts per day and probably some other stats that I forget.

Users list sorting - This kinda needs pagination implemented first to make sense, but since you're working on that I figure the groundwork is already being established. Anyway, the old RPG allowed you to sort the member list by join date and post count, and search by name or by first letter of a name, yadda yadda. It'd be nice to have that functionality again at some point, but this is probably super low priority so it's all good.

Various BBCode - Whenever BBCode fixing up happens, would be nice to have all the old functionality back. Some of the ones I remember using most were list coding, noparse tags, and video embedding. I'm sure there were others that are missing from what we have now, but I dunno what they were so whatever.

Thanks for doing this.

I agree with everything.

I'll work down the list just so people where my mind's at.

I'm down with this. Since I'm busy this week working on essential things, I can at least create whatever forums yall need if you want to get started.

Agreed.

- My first goal with profiles is to make them useful in the first place. Right now I've hardly touched them beyond the edit-user page. For example, since we differentiate between Topics and Roleplays here, I should be able to put together a posting history interface that's convenient to skim. I also have some useful ideas like providing a slot for your old RPGuild username to help old friends reconnect (along with a page that enumerates all the usernames).
- I'm cool with Myspacification. Make people regret visiting your profile.

Sorta like the difference between a FB wall post and an FB message, to me a VM feels less "intimate" than a PM. Like if you want to flirt with this roleplaying babe, a PM can come on a lil strong. So I don't think they are mutually exclusive either.

- Definitely a friend's list. I used my vBulletin friends list like a trophy case of legends that hadn't posted in years. It felt mostly aesthetic even though it had a few good privacy features. I think we can do better than that.
- The idea behind the stalker wall was on the right track, but it miserably failed. In a forum system, the purpose of friends is so that you can mutually track each other. It's an inventory of the people you know like a speed dial. The friend system should be able to tell you when your friends start an interest check or when they enter a roleplay. When scanning a bunch of interest checks, you should be able to toggle a filter that reduces the set to only those that involve your friends. That's what gives meaning to a mutual friends list.

Yeah, for sure. I feel bad when I see people struggling to organize their posts with the current BBCode as it is.

I shouldn't even call it BBCode because it's not.

Haha, definitely agreed.

Ideally it would behave as you point out.

[1] 2 3 4 5 ... Last
1 [2] 3 4 5 ... Last
1 2 [3] 4 5 ... Last
First ... 2 3 [4] 5 6 ... Last
First ... 3 4 [5] 6 7
First ... 3 4 5 [6] 7
First ... 3 4 5 6 [7]

In other news, I'm testing Private Message right now, so that's almost done finally.

The quoteception and hider-/spoilerception. Those make a really thick infodump or CS a tad less messier.

Not an absolutely top priority with everything else going on, but it would be nice to get our comrade forum back, so we can get back to our regulatory scheduled guild news. :p

Neat, I'm glad my listing wasn't in vain. Hopefully people will actually see this thread and your responses before posting in this area asking for these same features, haha.

Oh, and as for the contests stuff, just a contest forum section would be good for now. That plus private messages will allow us to do the WOTM stuff without too much trouble while you get all the essentials in place.

A couple of my own contributions.

Quoting - When quoting a post that has multiple lines, the paragraph format is done away with entirely.

"Hello.
How are you?"
becomes
"Hello.How are you?"

Obviously, this is not a pressing matter, and I'm sure it is just the early-stages of the quoting function, but it would be really great if we could clean that up somewhere down the line.

Post Sniping - A feature that I really enjoyed on the backup forum was the safety in place against post sniping. If someone posted while you were typing, the post would be displayed to you after you hit the submit button. You would have time to make revisions, and hit the submit button a second time to actually post. I tried to test it here, and didn't see anything quite like it. This isn't entirely necessary, and certainly not high up on the to-do list, but I thought I would mention it here.

I'll also echo the Comrade suggestion. I've always wanted to be one. :3

I really enjoyed the 'Stalker Wall' feature that the old forum had- it made things nice, easy and convenient to see what your friends were up to and what rps and threads they'd join and comment on that might also interest me enough to join. It was just really neat, I'd love to see that come back.

Also: Jorick, well done for a really comprehensive list. I agree with all points :D

The latest post link no longer goes to the latest post as of the implementation of pages. Also if your post would start a new page, you are left on the old one after submitting it.

EDIT: Nevermind about the latest post link not working. I could have sworn...

I pretty much agree with everything said thus far, and one other thing that hasn't been mentioned: That green light next to a person's name when they're online, or something of the like.

The ability to become invisible would be nice, as well, if we do add the green light to show someone is online.

I agree with all of this, and I really did love the old site, so maybe keeping a lot of that would be the best bet.

I would also love to have the albums back. That was a feature i used extensively and it really helped me visualize elements of my roleplays.

More BBCode. I personally miss:
* nocode/noparse (allows things such as displaying formatting tags - convenient when you want to give character sheet templates to players, for example)
* list
* underline
* changing size (titles, anyone?)

Also, please allow multiple empty lines? (Horizontal lines are neat, though.)
Would likewise like to see read/new posts/you have posted in indicators before threads, just as another mentioned above.

I think we will all be happy with this.

Not being able to post outside of the introduction threads until you have 2 posts and to further this, spam filter so these damn annoying spambots can't come in and post their stupid site links. If somebody comes in and posts a raw link to their site it will block the post from being made and possibly lock the account if it is tried 3 times.

I liked the Last Activity part of the old profiles, where it showed the last thing you (or if you were stalking people) were doing, whether viewing a thread or replying to one/pm/vm.
