The students were all gathered in the canteen, despite the great weather, the students insisted on eating indoors. The canteen was bustling with students of all walks of life and some staff who were rushing to a lecture with their lunch. The Jocks occupy the right side of the canteen, The Geeks slumped at the back playing D&D, The Rich Kids sat in the middle, looking down at all those that passed and The Inbetweeners were... well, in between, they occupied any free space they could find in the canteen...

In the middle of a bustling crowd was Thomas Jenkins, staring blankly into the crowd, as if he had been hypnotized. His black hair was swept to the side and his shirt and tie clinged to his body, it looked uncomfortable but quite smart, his jeans were tight and black and his shoes were slick and his laces were tied to perfection. He stood still, hands in his pockets. To everyone else, he looked as if he had cracked under the pressure of University, but in fact, he was studying someone... Watching them get their food and socializing with her friends, he tilted his head and smiled slightly. Some Jock bumped him and his snapped from his trance, whisked away into reality again,
"CRANIUM!" He exclaimed loudly and looked around shocked,
"I apologise..." He chuckled nervously and walked briskly to the other side of the canteen and took a seat, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, he began whistling a tune...

Over the speakers came an old, crinkled voice,
"Please note that all students are asked to keep their parties to a minimum, it has raised concerns with the Ofsted Examiners that are assessing the school... Thank you" Thomas smiled and stood up, headed to the food stands and got a disgusting-looking hot dog and a milkshake. He sat back down and finished his milkshake in seconds and with a big grin he bit into his hot dog.

Ava Sollard walked into the canteen, cautiously dodging ill-placed limbs and food trays. As she moved into the bustling line, she took a tray of her own and inspected the food choices. After taking a glance at the...interesting...options, she settled for an apple and left the line prematurely.
Her lens covered eyes scanned the multiple tables, and she hoped that at least one of them would be empty. She sighed as she glanced over the final table; they were all occupied, not a single empty one. Deciding on one of the few tables that only had one person, she weaved through the crowd and took a seat across from a young man eating what looked like a hot dog.

Pulling a history book from her heavy book bag, she took a bite from her apple and sent a quick glance the man's way. He looked nice enough, yet something about him made her feel nervous and awkward.
The message over the intercom echoed through the canteen and got mixed replies. Boos from the Jocks and the rich Kids, woots from the Geeks, and well, everything inbetween from the inbetweeners.

Thalia shouldered her bag as she walked into the canteen, her blue eyes scrutinizing the packs of people in each corner of the room. The girl beside her, on the soccer team, made a sly comment to one of the rich girls and Thalia chuckled. "Yeah well, soccer is boring." The whole group stopped and stared her down. She bit her lip to keep from saying anything else and Thalia smirked, cocking an eyebrow, as the snob took a seat. God, she had only been here a short while but being the only freshman on the starting soccer team made every minute worth it.

"Thal, you want something to eat?" A upperclassman, teammate questioned and Thalia nodded, following her to the line.

"What's good here? I usually just stick to my own lunch that I keep back at my dorms." Her teammate turned to her incredulously before practically pulling her to the Italian food line. The announcement cause Thalia to flinch and glare in the direction of the intercom.

"That's never going to hold up," she assumed, however something told Thalia that it would. "Anyway, come on," she urged her threw the line, ordering some kind of potato soup for the two of them along with a salad. "Coach is having us run today, so I suggest we just share this." Thalia laughed softly and nodded, following her back to the side of the canteen that seemed to be filled with more jocks than any of the rest.

As far as Lucas saw it, he didn't have time to be here eating. He didn't have many courses, but the few he was taking had heavy workloads. While the ginger didn't mind doing the work, he needed more time to do it. The line was miles long, and by the time some of them got their food it would probably be the end of the block, so he decided to completely forego even trying to get something and went to work finding a table.

A quick look from near the entrance of the canteen showed to him no empty tables, but luckily, some tables near the back seemed pretty open. Pretty quiet, away from the jocks, which was a nice bonus. Moving through the crowds wasn't a problem for him, most people either moved for him or he made them move. Taking a seat on the opposite end of a couple of other people, he practically pulled out everything in his bag, bringing the physics work on top. Since it was just the beginning of his freshman year, the course work wasn't complicated yet. Before starting his work, Lucas took a look around, and noticed all different cliques already forming. To him, they were just stupid. Considering he didn't go with anyone, and there were other people that didn't fit in others either, he and others would probably be classified in some other section, which was really unnecessary. He sighed at the thought, starting one of his many packets.

Spencer sighed as she walked into the canteen. Her Outfit representing who she was. Just a normal preppy geeky girl. Her hair was dark-ish brown swaying from side to side as she walked with her little purse in her side. Spencer noticed most of the others seeing that they were each in the tables that they were supposed to be. But Spencer was more a loner then being with others, but she did hang out with the geeks sometimes, not all the times. Sometimes. The geeks always wanted Spencer to join them, not just because of her smart attitude but because she was one of the most intelligent students in the school. Plus they needed her for school cathalon and stuff.

Spencer wasn't really hungry but she did grab a bottle of water and sat down in a table, where the in-betweeners were but there wasn't not much people in that table. She noticed the rich people looking at her and laughing, the Jocks were doing the same thing but some of the boys were winking at her and blowing her kisses, the in-betweeners were just ignoring her plain and the Geeks were being nice by waiving at her and telling her to go to their table but she smiled shaking her head. Spencer sighed and looked around bitting her bottom lips and wondered what today was going to be like.

Fox walked into the Canteen, sticking to the walls to avoid the crowd. Usually he preferred to eat in his own dorm, but after a little (well, more like HUGE) cockroach incident, he had stuck to eating in the Canteen. He fell in line, grabbed a milkshake and sandwich, and headed towards the tables.

Mentally groaning with discomfort, Fox surveyed the tables and scowled. Every table was occupied with their own little group of nerds, jocks, rich kids, or whatever else there was. And to be frank, each group sounded equally annoying to him. He headed towards the least populated table and plopped down. He cast the occupants an annoyed glare before digging into his sandwich.

"Please note that all students are asked to keep their parties to a minimum, it has raised concerns with the Ofsted Examiners that are assessing the school... Thank you."

Fox paused midbite as the announcement came on. A troubled look momentarily passed over his eyes. Hopefully this wouldn't be a hindrance to his little...'business'.

The table shook when another person sat down with their horrific looking food, causing Ava's half eaten apple to fall on the rather disgusting floor. She slowly lifted her gaze to the man next to her. Surveying his appearence with an irritated look she sighed and continued her book. She didn't bother retrieving her apple, it had probably rotted by now.

She mentally wondered when lunch would be over, and hoped to God it would be soon. The classrom was her safe-haven, second only to the library. The smell of paper and pencil shavings always calmed her nerves.

Thomas looked around at the people who now occupied his table, he thought it best to introduce himself,
"Hi" Thomas swallowed a huge chunk of hot dog,
"I'm Thomas" He wiped some mustard from his lips and smiled out at the people on his table, he recognized some of them from his English Class,
"Do you want me to buy you a new Apple?" Thomas smiled at Ava, his teeth gleaming and trying his hardest to squeeze some charm out,
"I don't mind. I'll get you a water while I'm at it... Or some juice" Thomas chuckled, he felt a tangent coming on but he suppressed himself enough

Ava looked up in surprise at Thomas' sudden outburst, at first lost for words. She did want another apple, and a water didn't sound too bad, but suspicion rose inside her as she eyed his grinning face.

"I'm Ava, and s-sure I'd like another apple and a water. If it's not too much trouble." She softly replied, mentally slapping herself when she stuttered. His wide smile gave her an odd feeling, and she hid behind her thick bangs.

"I'll pay you back, of course."

Thomas smiled,
"Don't worry about paying me back" Thomas surveyed the line and clicked his tongue a few times,
"Come on then"

Thomas stood up and slung his bag over his shoulders, adjusting his shirt and sweeping his hair over, he was quite well groomed. He held a hand out to Ava in an effort to hoist her from her chair and sweep her away to the food stands,
"I hope you like mineral water" Thomas' voice was silky smooth and his stance was inviting and neutral, he was trying very hard.

Although his friendliness was suspicious, Ava did want to come with him. She didn't want to be rude, and she definitely didn't want to stay at the table, so she hesitantly put her book away and took Thomas' outstretched hand.

"I like either kind, and are you sure you don't want me to repay you?" She asked while flipping her bangs out of her face, only to have them fall back into place.

Fox barely glanced up from his food as Thomas and Ava left the table. He visibly relaxed. Crowds, both big and small, weren't exactly on his top ten favourite things list.
"...Fox," he greeted after giving the table occupants a good look. "Name's Fox." The occupants seemed okay enough to give his name to, and he was pretty sure he had a few classes with some of them.

He moved his hand, accidentally knocking over his milkshake. He swore under his breath as the drink quickly spread across the table.

Before Ava was out of ear-shot, she heard the man who had knocked down her food state his name, Fox. She also heard his milkshake spill. 'Thank the Lord..." She thought, 'it's a good thing I moved my book'.

She almost turned and offered her assistance to Fox, maybe buying another milkshake for him, but by the time that thought had crossed her mind her and Thomas were too far away.

Thalia stood with the rest of the team as they made their way from the canteen. Pushing her hands to her pockets, she yawned and peered around, seeing a couple people leaving as well. "Name's Fox." She heard a voice mumbled from a table she was walking by. Someone else replied and a clatter sounded, drawing attention from the rest of the people around them. Thalia saw the milkshake, spread across the table and couldn't keep the small, short laugh that left her lips.

"Y'all go ahead," she smiled to the rest of the team and grabbed the unused napkins off their plates. As they walked off she leaned over the spill, laying the napkin on it. "Smooth," she teased and smiled up at everyone up at the table. "I'm Thalia by the way. Do you want another milkshake Fox? They are pretty good."

Spencer sighed as she noticed people interacting with and all she was doing was sit in a table alone. Spencer took her last sip of her coffee and walked away but she accidently bumped into Fox. "Oh, I'm sorry." she gave him a small nervously smile and turned to Thalia. "Hey, sorry for interrupting your umm....conversation. But, I'm kind-...." she sighed facepalming seeing that she couldn't believe what she was just about to say but she continued to speak. "I was kinda... lonely back there, so I needed to talk with someone...plus, I really don't feel like going to those tables like the Jock, Gee- .....actually nevermind. I am sorry for bothering you guys and I will be leaving." and with that she nodded and turning around walking away, how embarrising! All she wanted was friends and no one actually talked to her....

As Spencer was walking she bumped into a rich girl. The rich girl turned around rolling her eyes at her. "Ugh, please. Do something about your outfit.." she rolled her eyes at Spencer but Spencer raised an eyebrow looking down at her outfit seeing that nothing was wrong with it. She simply looked at the rich girl and just gave her a smile, she did not have time for this today so she ignored her and walked away.

First day were always the shittiest. That's what Seth thought anyway.
He was wandering around the canteen, trying to find the girl who was meant to be showing him around. Her was pretty sure that they had skipped school today. He sighed out loud.

Seth walked over to a kind-looking girl, getting somewhat harassed by one of the snobby kids. When she finally left the girl alone, Seth approached her. "Excuse me?" He said. "Could you possibly tell me where L5 is?" He added, "My name is Seth, by the way. I like your outfit. It suits you- not that I know much about clothes!" He smiled kindly.

"You seem tense" Thomas picked up a shiny apple from the food stand and began scanning for the water,
"What's your name?" Thomas smiled at her for a bit and then sighed as he picked up a bottle of water,
"I know I'm a stranger, so it must be weird to be whisked away for food by a stranger... but trust me, I couldn't hurt a fly" Thomas paid for the girls food before sighing again and grabbing a packet of crisps and paying for that too,
"I'm starving"

Fox grimaced as some of the shake fell on his jacket. He had no wishes of spending a day without his Ol' Reliable. Doing so was the equality of stripping down naked for a day.

"Hush..." he muttered at Thalia's teasing, his face flushed with embarrassment. "And, um, sure...thanks or whatever."
Le began to rise when a girl bumped into Fox. "Watch it," he snapped. The girl was nervously talking and eventually left. Fox raised an eyebrow. "Weird."

Ava laughed softly and pointed Thomas to where the water was as she replied.
"I'm Ava, and it was kind of odd having a near stranger buy me food, but mostly I just...well...people don't usually talk to me...at all."

The last part came out as a whisper and she quickly looked down at her shoes, not wanting to meet Thomas' eyes. The sudden confidence boost that had made her go with him in the first place ran out, making her once again hide behind her thick curtain of hair.

Thomas itched his neck and frowned,
"I'm sorry" He flicked some hair from her eyes and smiled,
"I'll talk to you, if you like?" Thomas was actually being nice, he was feeling kind...
"I know what its like to feel... left out, I guess?" Thomas looked down at her shoes,
"Nice shoes... Ava" Thomas smiled at her with warm kindness
