Bex - Outpost/Forest - Enrique

His boots crunched softly on fallen leaves and twigs. A faint powdering of snow sprinkled the ground but it was barely enough to cover up the dwindling colors of the late autumn. Still, Bex could see that his breath was visible in the crisp air. It was nothing compared to the northern winters that Bex was used to, but no one knew how harsh a winter in the apocalypse could be.

He shrugged his shoulders, readjusting his pack and the rifle strung around his shoulders. He had gotten rid of the camo gear that could have possibly outed him as a previous raider. All of the men had worn similar equipment because Tyler had called it "solidarity". Now all Bex had was a pair of ugly cargo shorts and a fur jacket that still smelled like a wet dog. He had galoshes on from the time they had spent in the marsh, but Tyler - Now calling himself Thomas - had said a life of swamp living was not for them.

The man himself, Tyler (Or Thomas, whatever), was lounging on a rock jutting out of the ground. He was sitting on a patch of moss and root, staring off toward god knew where. Bex stopped at the base of the large rock and stared at the man; He looked a bit like a classy hick with his pair of brown overalls over his fancy dress shirt. He also had on a fur jacket, one that Bex figured didn't smell like wet dog.

The man's demeanor had largely changed since the attack on the hideout, and not just because he had adopted the Thomas persona. Something innate in him had changed, almost as if he was going through some form of PTSD. For the life of him, Bex couldn't figure the man out. He also couldn't figure out why he was still following the man around. He could have shot Tyler back at the catacombs. He had been given the perfect opportunity to do so, but he ended up not taking the shot because he wasn't that kind of person, or at least that is what he told himself. Now he was still with the man, and a part of Bex was too curious to leave.

A part of Bex was also still scared of the man.

"They're ready to speak with us," Bex said, getting Tyler's attention. The man looked down at him and smiled, the action still frighteningly unfitting from the man Bex once knew.

"Perfect. Let's grab Enrique and get going."

***

They arrived at the log cabin a few minutes later. Bex was seeing it for the first time now; From the outside, it was a quaint little building with three or four rooms at maximum. There was a small porch at the front door and a small set of stairs. The man sitting on front step stood up and opened his arms in welcome.

"There you are. Welcome to our outpost, fellas. Come on in." He was an older man, probably a little older than Bex himself, with a buzzed head and a goatee that reminded Bex strangely of that one guy from Breaking Bad. They entered the cabin to find two more men inside. The young one with glasses and sandy blond hair eagerly shook hands with Bex and the others.

"I hope he didn't mind waiting," he said with a friendly smile. Bex watched Tyler smile at the man in turn.

"Of course not," he said. "We understand larger groups need these kinds of procedures."

"Were you three part of a larger group?" the third guy asked, his eyes squinting at the three of them. He had short black hair and a pair of grey eyes to match. He was probably in his twenties and Bex figured he was the most handsome of the three, though the dour look permanently stuck to his face ruined that slightly.

"Aren't most people?" Tyler asked. "It's hard survivin' out there without a couple of friends."

The man with the goatee nodded, apparently agreeing with Tyler. "Well then, let's get settled and we'll discuss what happens from here."

The six men settled into the sofas set facing each other. Tyler leaned forward, sitting up straight and giving the three men across from him a friendly smile. "I am Thomas Zuchowski. These are my companions, Bex and Enrique." He pointed at each man in turn. "We've been living in and around the marsh the last month, but we got to movin' once we got tired of it."

Goatee man nodded. "My name's Reggie." He gestured to Glasses man. "His name's Luke. The other one's-"

"Rudy," Squinty man said, interrupting.

Reggie gave Rudy a withering look. "Right, well, you three need to understand that we don't just let anyone into the group. We've had a few incidents in the past that could have easily been avoided by just being a little more careful. Outpost is in the forest, so the threat of bandits is less of an issue if we were in suburbia. The biters are also less sparse out here... Most of them get caught in the marsh. People are attracted to that sort of security."

"Wait, is your... community called Outpost?" Bex asked, leaning forward. "I thought you were just talking about this cabin."

"This is sort of Outpost's outpost," Luke said with a hint of amusement. "We use it as a base of operations sometimes, but usually its used to house potential new recruits like you guys. Those of you who can fight - Which looks to be all three of you - will join us on a few scouts before we let you join the community proper. It lets us get to know you, you know?"

Tyler smiled amicably. "And what if we couldn't fight?" he asked.

Reggie shrugged. "I suppose that'd be your choice. Either way, you'll be staying here while we keep tabs on you."

"Probation. I like that." Tyler turned in his seat to shrug off his jacket. "Warm in here, isn't it?" He waited until his jacket was off and set down on the table between them before continuing. "Where will these scouts be, anyway?"

Luke raised his hand slightly before speaking, as if he was in school. "There's a fireplace in the next room. And, uh... Usually around Lake Cataouatche. We've been up to Metairie and a bit up the Mississippi before. We try to avoid the bulk of New Orleans."

"Good, the city's full to bursting with danger," Tyler said, nodding. "I don't envy anyone trying to make a living there."

Reggie stood up, letting out a deep breath. "I'm glad we're on the same page then, gentlemen."

"Thank you three for your patience," Tyler responded.

Luke went to shake everyone's hand again. "No, thank you, Thomas." Bex almost snorted.

"Make yourselves at home," Reggie said, going for the door. Luke and Rudy followed after him. "We'll be back soon enough, but a word of advice..." He stopped at the door, his hand on the doorknob. He looked down at the ground for a moment before fixing a stare at Bex and the others. "Don't think of following us or looking for Outpost. We won't tolerate it." With that, Reggie and the other two left, leaving them alone.
Shannon - Haywood/Her Room - Daniel

Shannon stared at herself in the mirror, though all she could look at was the sling on her arm. It was a pain in the ass, not to mention the fact that her arm was still feeling pretty sore. Getting washed was a chore, which was awful when the alternative was smelling as bad as she felt. She could hardly get to sleep, always finding a way to lay on top of her arm and hurt herself. The female nurses helped dress her the first week, but Shannon but a stop to that quickly. It was time consuming, but Shannon managed to get her clothing on without irritating her arm too much. James usually offered to help, but Shannon wasn't about to let the kid see her dress.

She turned to James now and smiled at him. He was sitting on the bed drawing a picture. Shannon initially thought he was a bit old to be drawing, but it turned out James was actually very good at it. Better than her, even. He looked up at her in turn and smiled back. "That's a nice dress," he said.

Shannon turned back to the mirror. "I'm glad you think so." It was a green dress with a floral pattern on the skirt. Shannon wasn't a big fan of the flower stuff, but she always thought she looked nice in green. It brought out her eyes. "There's not much to work with around here, and with the sling, I don't have the luxury of trying a lot of different things on."

"You made the best of it, then." James then went back to his drawing.

Shannon stared into the mirror a little bit longer. She looked the dress up and down and realized that James was right, she had made the best of it. "I'm heading out for a walk," she said, grabbing her jacket.

She shared an apartment with James, even though some of the folks at Haywood found it kind of strange. She had decided not to carry on the lie that she was James' mother any longer. At her age, it wasn't even physically possible and so someone would have figured it out eventually. Despite this, James was starting to see her as a sort of motherly figure, though Shannon hardly knew the first thing about being a mom. She could take up her own mother's philosophy of baking a cupcake for each day of the week, but Shannon didn't trust herself around a baking sheet. Heck, it wasn't like they had the supplies to make many treats.

She stepped out into the cool November air and hugged herself. The winters had been far worse up in New York, but Shannon had never been one for the cold. Danny always found her snuggled on the couch watching lame TV movies about the holidays. He could never get her out of the house, no matter how many times Fred Claus came on.

Shannon knocked on Daniel's front door, figuring he was probably home at this hour. Between her injury and his sudden rise in standing, the pair of them hadn't had much time to talk. She smiled at him when he opened the door. "Hey," she said. "How's it going?"

Valentina Vetrov - Haywood

Valentina had been spying on some people in the distance for several hours now, unsure of what to do. It was a cold, windy day - it being winter, every single day was cold and windy, and it wasn't friendly to the young girl. Valentina had been on the run for several days now, and she was far from her sleep spots. In fact, there was a desperately constant, gnawing feeling in her that she was lost, that she would never get back to her secret places again. Worse still, she hadn't eaten for close to three days - the next nightfall would mark her third missing dinner. The thought of her stacks of canned food made the nauseous sensation in her stomach even worse. Valentina was afraid of people, and what they might do to her, but she knew just as well that when there's people, there would also be food. Even Manson had food.

All it took was another groan of her stomach and her nearly vomiting to push her into it, into finding a way in. Darting from car to car and rubble to rubble, she came up to the chainlink fences surrounding the Place with People. Keeping low, Valentina was constantly keeping a lookout for guards, her tired eyes shifting about quickly. Following the chainlink fence, she searched feverishly for a way in, and would not give up even after exhausting a side of the Place with People. Her effort was only rewarded when she searched the next side, in the form of a small, loose section of the fence, the chink in the armour of the Place with People big enough for her to squeeze through, except...

She had to leave her Purple Hello Kitty Backpack behind. Already desperate, she shrugged it off and hid it in a dustbin, carrying with her only Valerie's Taurus Model 85 .38 Snub-Nosed Revolver (which had only a single bullet) and Lieutenant Hugh's Combat Knife. A simple but vicious steak knife was stuck on her belt, and just like how her late soldier friend had taught her, she kept a home-made little blade hidden in the lining of her jeans.

Wiping off the foam that was beginning to form on the side of her mouth, Valentina squeezed through - although weak from her starvation, the promise of food kept her alert and careful. As a guard was quickly approaching, the girl was nearly sliding through in a hurry and managed to hide behind a pile of trash before he noticed anything.

Surveying the compound she had just sneaked into, Valentina saw a huge apartment building and several houses. People were walking around freely, but mostly around the largest building. The obvious choice was the closest house, which seemed to be the biggest. With her stomach feeling like it was no longer there anymore, she wanted her food quick and she wanted her food NOW.

Upon seeing opportunity, Valentina darted to her targeted house. Wasting no time as a guard might come around the corner at any moment, Valentina climbed through an open window as soon as her hunch tells her that there was no one on the other side... And promptly landed in the kitchen - exactly where she wanted to be in. Sweat was beginning to form on her dirty forehead as Valentina's bloodshot eyes searched for food, and only food.

"Hey," A faint voice had said somewhere near the house. "How's it going?" In her frenzied state, Valentina did not care. Darting across the kitchen in anticipation of precious food, Valentina paid for her lack of caution when she tried the closest cabinet door, and found that it wasn't just locked, but produced a rather dull, metallic noise when she tried to force it open.

Aware that she'd made some noise, Valentina tried to work as quickly as she could, her head constantly turning to check on the door leading into the kitchen, paranoid that someone would barge into the kitchen and catch her red-handed. Pulling her knife out, she stuck it into the gap of the cabinet door and tried to force it open, her eyes wide in concentration, unaware that saliva was dripping down the side of her mouth where foam was forming again as even her body knew subconsciously that there was food - tasty, tasty food - in there....

Daniel Crowe - Haywood/Crowe’s House - Shannon

Daniel peered at the mirror for a minute and overlooked his face for a moment. He briefly washed the razor of in the sink and set it down, shutting off the water. He was satisfied with his shaving job and quickly dried his face. He noticed that his hair had grown a little longer, and he needed to trim it.

Daniel turned and went out of the bathroom, closing the door behind him. He tiredly went to his room and found a shirt, sliding it over his toned torso. He’d already made his bed; tight military style. He slid his feet into socks and then into his black boots, sliding the legs over the laces of the shoes. He continued his routine, just like each morning. He walked over to a tall cabinet that housed an AR-15 assault rifle, a Remington hunting rifle, and an M9 beretta. He pulled the pistol from the bottom of the dresser after grabbing a belted holster from the drawer under the cabinet, holstering the weapon.

The man left his room, quietly closing the door behind him, peeking into the living room. He saw that Emma's blanket was on the floor and she was no where to be found. She must have gone out, he decided. At that time, a knock resounded on the door. Daniel stood upright and went to the front. He opened the door and his lips wound into a grin as he saw Shannon standing outside of apartment 2304, the last apartment on the first floor of building No. 23.

Hey, How’s it going?

“Hey, I’m doing good.” He said, moving aside and motioning her inside. He closed the door behind her, but as he did, a loud rattling sounded from the kitchen. Instinctively, Daniel’s hand dropped to his gun. He peered into the living room. He pulled the Beretta from the holster and quickly, but gently, pressed Shannon against the wall, motioning for her to stay put. He took three steps, one, two, three, to the the corner of the kitchen. Taking two more steps, he turned in to the kitchen, pointing his pistol forward at- Daniel stopped in his tracks. His pistol was pointed directly at a little girl who was prying at the food cabinet. .

Robert Dalton - Haywood

"You need to stop Robert, it ain't good for you to drink this much man" Anthony said, putting his hand on Robert's shoulder in attempt to stop him. They were the only two people in the mess hall at this point, everyone else was working or doing the tasks that were assigned to them. "We need to head out anyway. We were scheduled to scavenge today remember?"

"Allow me to drink in solitude Anthony. I never bother you in time of grief" Robert started.

"It's not the same man. C'mon, lets just get out of here and get on the road" Anthony exclaimed, trying to push Robert to listen.

Robert quickly stood up and pushed Anthony to the wooden ground. "I said! Let me be be!!" he yelled at him with a low-toned growl. Anthony stood up from the aggressive attack and stared Robert down, his hand on the grip of his pistol. "Robert, it ain't like it was before!" Anthony yelled at him, raising his gun to the man's head. Anthony was about five foot ten inches, just a tad shorter than Robert who stood six-foot one. Robert also raised his gun, pointing it at Anthony. "Pull the trigger kid, this will be your only chance" Robert announced, his veins popping form his forearms. The man seemed more muscular than usual, as though he'd put on a few more pounds of mass. Soon enough, Anthony lowered his gun and placed it back into the crest of his pants. His tight belt kept the gun steady and firm. "Look at us man, fighting one another in a situation like this. It ain't each other we should be fighting dammit! I'm trying to survive here, maybe you should shift your anger to the man who took this city from you, not towards me man! He failed all of us, I know. But I ain't about to go out there and kill'em. You're better than this Robert. Soon enough you'll regain your position man, you just gotta be patient" Anthony said, trying to reason with the man.

"Patience? I no longer seek patience. I seek justice. That man, he entered our city as though a hero-" Robert said, cut off by Anthony.

"Yeah! And that's your own fault dammit! You have this enact man, you just spread us thinner and thinner. You've got everyone against you, looking up to that guy, that Daniel guy. Where the fuck did he come from huh? He just showed up and took everything from you! And its YOUR OWN FAULT!!" he yelled at Robert. "You want Haywood back? Take it! Tell them the truth about Daniel. Tell them he didn't kill Tyler. Tell them he got six of our guys killed! Tell them man!"

"I cannot. If I do such thing they will hate me even more. They will call me a liar. They will see my purpose to be the same as Levi's, to gain power. I do not seek power Anthony, I seek survival. I want to give all these people a chance. I will continue standing beside Daniel until the time comes where I can no longer do it. There will be a time where he slips, I know there will. He is nowhere near perfect, he is imperfection itself. My people will seek for my guidance one again, but in due time. I cannot push for power or else I will turn into Levi, that is not what I desire."

"Right, but if you don't do nuthin now, then it'll be too late. Quit drinking yourself to death and do something!" Anthony continued.

"Do not push my hand kid. I already told you that I will regain my position in my community, so shut it. What the hell do you know about running a place of this multitude? Nothing. And you remember I am your superior, you are not mine, so never speak to me like you have today understood?"

As those final words came out of Robert's mouth, Anthony made his way towards the mess hall exit. "Psh. You're my superior? That's funny, I thought the town decided Daniel was in charge" he said, starting to leave. "I'm tellin' you man, act soon before you lose all of your supporter, cuz then you've got nothing" he said, leaving Robert's sight and putting on his cap.

And with that, Robert was in his desired solitude. He took his cup of vodka and smashed it against the hard floor. His breathing was irregular because of his anger. He put his hands to his face and wiped away all that emotion as he attempted to calm down. Then he headed towards the exit, leaving the mess hall as it was as he started roaming the streets. Anthony had been waiting outside of the mess hall for Robert. "Have Johnson take my place in the scavenging mission, I have business to settle" Robert commanded. Anthony raised a brow before nodding and going on his way. Robert then started towards Daniel's room.

Rob-Haywood

Rob looked at the sky with a bitter look, "Another day" It was nippy outside, the cold biting at his fingers. It had been a weird time since he had joined Haywood but it was better then before. Sure he had joined in a time of chaos, and not that it was that better now. But he had enough of the loneliness. Rob stepped forth into one of the buildings, He had to check many things. Make sure nothing bad had sneaked it's way in. As he gave a small nod to one of the many people doing their chores he checked upon a few people. Rob shivered as a bit of breeze whipped over him. He was annoyed that this building seemed to have lots of drafts. He wonder if he should talk to Daniel about something that had been annoying him. Troubling the fact that he didn't really know Daniel. But then again, many people didn't. Soon there will be something, I can feel it

Matt-Outpost

Matt frowned as he looked upon the sky, "They've been taking a while, I don't understand why we have to take so long to explain" Matt cursed in his mind as he started to cough once again. In a world with the undead and I of all the people get nasty cough, it could be worst.
Matt sat down on one of the rather uncomfortable chairs for the counsel. He hoped that the expansion would come soon, he didn't think he could handle more of this cramped place. He silently tapped his fingers against his leg. He hadn't slept a lot in the last few days. He tended to stare at the wall for hours. Just thinking, and the few hours of sleep that did come to him were haunted in nightmares. "Hmmm, it shouldn't be long..." Matt repeated to himself as he waited

Rudy - Outpost

The gates of Outpost stood before them. Reggie signaled to the men on the wall to remove the wooden latches from the inside. After a few moments of stillness, the wooden gate began opening outward, allowing them access beyond the ten-feet high walls. Even fitted with their own ramparts, the wall surrounding Outpost wouldn't have been that impressive before the world turned to shit, but Rudy remembered Outpost before serious work had gone into the walls. The community's builders had somehow managed to gather everyone for the common goal of walling off their community. Outpost went from a ramshackle collection of buildings into a true home.

The gates closed behind them as they entered, signaling what seemed like everyone to come over and ask how things had went. Most of them gathered around Reggie, who had somehow acquired leadership of the scouts and respect of most of Outpost in little under a month. The man liked to talk; Liked hearing his own voice. The guy was just a fucking show-off, in Rudy's opinion.

Parting the crowd as if it was the Red Sea came Myriah Bay, the town's spiritual leader. She was certainly a sight to see; A stunning middle aged woman with soft brown hair and a pair of round rimmed eyeglasses. If just about anyone was asked who the leader of Outpost was, they would most certainly point to Myriah. At one point in time, before the walls were complete, Myriah had led the community through some major hardships. However, after the attempted mutiny, Myriah had insisted on a council to run Outpost in her stead. Reggie had earned himself a spot on that council by quelling the mutiny almost entirely on his own, a bloody event in an otherwise spotless history for Outpost.

Rudy sighed wistfully and crossed his arms. Much like everyone else, Myriah was speaking with Reggie. Luke was gone, having assimilated into the milling group of people. No one wanted much to do with Rudy, not nowadays.

But then Rudy saw Elliot approaching from the group. He gave the older boy a sly smile and raised his hands. "How was your first day on the wall?" he asked, in what he knew was a mangled attempt at American Sign Language.

Elliot grinned back, having apparently got the gist of what Rudy had said. He signed back with, "Pretty bad. I'll tell you about it later." Or at least that's what Rudy thought he said. Elliot sometimes went a bit too fast for him to keep up. Aside from Elliot's own brother and Wonder Woman herself, Myriah, Rudy had been the only one to take the idea of learning ASL seriously. With only one deaf person around, no one thought it was a huge deal. Elliot read lips extremely well, but as Rudy understood it, that had only been a necessity of a life lived amongst hearing people who never bothered to learn sign language.

As the crowd started to disperse, Reggie realized the only ones still standing around were Myriah, Rudy, and Elliot. With a sort of awkward laugh, Reggie told Myriah that he would talk to her later and left. He had always found it uncomfortable around Elliot, for whatever reason.

Myriah turned her attention toward Elliot. "I heard there was an incident today on the wall," she said, her hands signing in sync with what she was saying. Rudy shook his head, jealous of her ability to take to the language so much more easily than he had.

"I really don't want to get into it right now," Elliot signed. "Just wanted to say hi." He gave Rudy a sad smile before leaving.

"Your signing's really improved," Myriah said, turning to Rudy now.

He shrugged at her. "It's pretty fucking bad."

Myriah's smile didn't wane at his foul language. He knew she was used to it by now. "I wanted you three to know that there will be a meeting later. The council is going to discuss a few things beforehand, but make sure you attend the meeting afterwards, alright?"

"Like hell I would. Nothing else going on around here." Rudy grinned at her and started to leave. "I'm totally starved Myriah, so excuse me." Myriah nodded graciously, excusing him to go.

Rudy made a beeline for the cafeteria. He would totally kill somebody if there weren't any meat and potatoes left.

Valentina Vetrov - Haywood - Daniel Crowe

"Hello There..." A voice behind Valentina made her jump. Shaken, the girl stopped trying to pry the cabinet door open and turned slowly around, shaken by the fact that she had been discovered. Upon turning around, she saw who that voice belonged to; a rather tall, brown-haired man, pointing a pistol at her. Valentina shook in fear and defeat as she stared down the barrel of the gun, saliva and foam dribbling unceremoniously down the side of her mouth, her knife hanging uselessly in her hand by her side.

By now, her hunger and social isolation had stolen most of her power of speech, social graces and manners, so all Valentina was to look away in a mix of fright and shyness, like a kid being caught doing something wrong (which she was), unconsciously taking steps back, as far away from the pistol as possible until her back met the kitchen counter she was messing with. Strangely enough, the only thought going through her mind was food even when it seemed that she would die within moments.

Shannon - Daniel's House - Daniel & Valentina

Shannon stepped inside Daniel's home. Now out of the wind, Shannon touched at her dress and smoothed down the skirt. She began taking her boots off when Daniel suddenly pressed her against the wall. She stumbled over her feet, having only gotten one of her shoes off. "What are you doing?" she asked, not having been paying attention to the noise from the kitchen. Daniel motioned her to stay put but Shannon immediately rejected the idea. She followed after him cautiously, mindful of the fact she left her weapons at home.

When she stepped in behind Daniel to get a look at what was in the kitchen, her mind boggled at what she was seeing. "Woah, Daniel, hold up!" she exclaimed. "It's just a little girl!" A little girl who looked downright ill, even. Shannon placed a hand on Daniel's shoulder. "You're scaring her."

Daniel - Apartment - Shannon and Valentina

Daniel slowly lowered his gun, appalled by the sight of this girl. "Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you." He slowly lowered to his knees to be more on the little girl's level. "My names Daniel, and this is my friend, Shannon." He clicked the gun on safety, dropped the clip from the pistol. With a loud click, he ejected the chambered round and in clattered to the floor. He slipped unhooked the ring of keys from his belt and slid them over to the girl. "You- uh- you look like you're hungry. The key is the bright blue one. That'll let you into the closet."

He eyed her gun, cautiously. "You've got a gun too, I see... It's a very nice one, too." He clasped his hands together, balancing in a squat. "I hope that no one has to use their gun."

Emma - Haywood Infirmary/Complex Courtyard - O'Connor

Emma sat in the infirmary, swinging her left foot back and fort under the examiner's table. "Breath in..." O'Connor said in his Scottish accent. Emma obeyed and inhaled. "Breath out." Again, Emma obeyed. "Well your breathing is fine right now... When exactly were you having trouble?"

"Last night... I woke up in the middle of the night and I felt like I was suffocating." She recounted the event to the man, who in return scratched his red beard.

"I'd like to say it's simply a repercussion of your wound... " The man admitted. "I think you've got the slightest case of pneumonia. Even still, it was most likely given a kickstart from the problems you had after I first took the bullet out."

"So what does that mean for me?"

"It means that you'll have to keep an inhaler on you. We've currently got three available, but I can give you advair as an alternative." He quickly walked to the a closet and came back with a red inhaler. After he instructed her on how to use it, Emma slid it into the pocket of her jacket. She was thankful for this man, deeply grateful. He'd saved he from death and he'd helped her recover.

"Riley, could you... uh... could you do me a favor and not mention this to Daniel? He's got enough to worry about." Emma pleaded. Daniel was now the leader of Haywood, and he had a lot to keep his mind busy.

"What, ya don't think the mighty Mayor can keep himself together?"

"I think he's more than capable, I just don't want to be his burden to bear." Emma confessed. Grimly, O'Connor nodded. She exited the infirmary and left the main building, stepping out into the cold morning air. She stuffed her hands in her coat and began to walk home.

Valentina Vetrov - Haywood - Daniel Crowe & Shannon Greene

Despite the man's kindly advance and generosity, Valentina could not help but to suspect that he was either playing with her or tricking her to let her guard down. The girl thought she could accept the key and try to open the cabinet, but even without a gun, she knew very well that the man could easily overpower her with ease. So Valentina simply slid further away from him, shrinking when he offered the keys, still shaken and pallid from the cold, hunger and lack of sleep. The woman's entrance did not help either - memories of her past brush with a rather lustful couple surfaced. The man's words fell on deaf ears, partly because her brain was too bruised to understand them, and partly because she could not believe she was hearing them at all - kind words seemed like the stuff of folk tales and legends, something unreal.

When she was far enough away, Valentina simply pulled her pistol out from its holster, cocking it and pointed it at the man, her actions fast as the blink of an eye from practice and experience, the weapon shaking as the girl was already weak from too many reasons for her small frame to handle. More saliva was dribbling down her mouth as the hunger pangs in her got worse from the thought of food being so close. From a rather shy outlook, Valentina, almost as if like an animal running on instinct, changed dramatically and stared viciously at the pair of adults with her teeth bared and lips shivering, panting as adrenaline, despite her hunger, was rushing in her veins. All that was missing was her growling or snarling like a wild dog.

Shifting her target consistently between the man and woman to threaten them, she couldn't help but to eye the cabinet for want of food every other moment.

Robert - Haywood - Emma/Daniel/Shannon/Valentina

As Robert continued down the path towards Daniel's quarters, he ran into Emma leaving the infirmary. He waited for her to reach him before he started to speak, he wanted to show respect, though in his eyes, she did not deserve any. She was of the same blood as the traitor who now ran the city. In all honestly, the two never really had the chance to meet, never did they speak, they didn't have a reason to. But as of now, if he blew her off, he'd most likely reveal that hate he had for the Crowe family. "You must be Emma" Robert started. "I've heard a lot about you" he lied.

The two seemed to be going the same way, therefore Robert decided to walk alongside her. "Your brother Daniel, he is a good man. I'm sure he told you all about what happened that day. The day he rescued you. Tis' good to see you're doing well. I heard you were injured in the crossfire. You were fortunate O'Conner found you when he did. All our men do everything they can for helpless survivors. Haywood was created for that purpose" Robert continued as they got closer to Daniel's quarters. "Do you feel safe here? Do you believe your brother is the correct man to be accountable for all these people?" Robert asked, not looking at her but where they were headed. When he asked that, the smile he had on his face before completely faded. But before she could answer, Robert entered Daniel's premises without knocking, since the door was open and all.

"Daniel!" Robert called out as he went deeper into the apartment. "Where are yo-" he was about to ask before the answer revealed itself before him. They were in the kitchen and it seemed they were not alone. At first Robert believed the being on the floor to be an animal of some kind, but a closer look revealed it to be a little girl. "Who is that?" Robert asked Shannon, noticing the child had a small revolver pointed at them. In defense, Robert held the grip of his sidearm, prepared to pull it out if shots were fired. "Put the gun down kid, you do not want to do something you will regret." For a second, Robert wanted the girl to shoot, he wanted her to hit Daniel. Robert pulled his hand away from his weapon as his breath became quite dilated. He desired her to shoot at this point, but could not allow that desire to be evident. "Put the gun down kid, we've got you surrounded" Robert added to reason with the girl. "We will not hurt you. Put the gun down and it'll all be over. We are a community of survivors, we will take care of you no doubt. Just put it down now. My name is Robert, yours?" he said, trying to calm the already amped up child.

Emma - Haywood - Robert/Daniel/Shannon/Valentina

Emma saw the face of Robert, the man that had posed as the surrogate leader after Bruce Levi was killed. She'd not talked to him, nor had they been introduced at all. He waited for her to catch up and instantly went into a barrage of questions.

"I wouldn't really consider myself a helpless survivor, Mr. Dalton." Emma said. She didn't enjoy the feeling of his presence. It reminded her to much of Tyler and Hex... she shivered absently at the thought of the two men. "I- uh... I spent about the last four months alone after my dad passed away." She found that when she entered the apartments, that Robert followed right into their house.

The seen in the kitchen caused Emma to take a heavy double-take. As Robert began talking to the little girl, Daniel thrust a hand back at him to tell him to be quiet. "Emma, can you come here?" Emma reluctantly came to Daniel's side. It was then that she took a good look at the girl. She was malnourished and probably dehydrated as well. Most of all, the girl look scared; scared out of her mind. She looked like a deer in caught in the headlights. "This-" Daniel said as he lightly placed a hand on her shoulder, at which Emma had to force herself not to cringe. She was like this whenever anyone touched her; especially men. But then she remembered that this was her brother she was talking about. "There are other kids here, too. This is my sister, Emma."

"Hi..." Emma began. "You look like a survivor, am I right? You know what you're doing when it comes to these situations." Emma began lowering herself down, and ended up sitting cross-legged on the wooden floor. "I used to be like you, too. I had to fight the sick people... I also had to fight some bad men..." She rose her eyebrows and pursed her lips. "Those men; they did some really mean things to me, and I was scared, too!" She gave one hand of indication to Daniel. "But this is Daniel, my brother; he's not one of those bad men. He's a really good man and he saved me from those bad men. Yes, I am still scared all the time because of those men, but these people are my friends and they make me feel safe." Emma gave a small smile. "And if you let them, they can be your friends, too."

"Now you look like you're hungry, am I right?" She scooted a tad bit closer. "I think I'm right. If you want, I can even get the food for you, you can keep your gun." She looked back at Robert. "Now this is my other friend, too. His name is Robert and if you want, he can put his gun down and unload it, too. Just like Daniel." She smiled and waited for the girl's reaction

Valentina - Haywood - Robert/Daniel/Shannon/Emma

When Valentina listened to all the chatter around her, she began to feel something worm its way back out of deep inside her, but she could not understand what. Suddenly conscious that her chin was absolutely filthy with foam and saliva, she gave it a quick wipe with her jacket sleeve.

As a girl just a few years older than her spoke, Valentina noticed that she got closer - as she found it hard to understand what she was saying, having never had the need to listen to so many words at one go for so long, Valentina simply could not understand her, and she feared what she could not understand. The little she could pick out did not help much. The room was becoming crowded, and Valentina became afraid.

When the girl finished, Valentina froze, afraid of the crowd on one hand and wanting the food they had on the other. But in the end, fear took over and Valentina bolted for the window she had come through from, and in a heartbeat was climbing and almost got out when something hard hit her right in the face, sending her flying back. All she could see after that was whiteness, and for a split moment Valentina thought she had lost the sight in her other eye, though she could barely even think anymore. Her nose felt like it had come off and her entire face felt broken, but in reality nothing was, though she was bleeding rivers from her nose.

Moaning in pain, she tried to sit up but could not, and was only rewarded with a sharp pain in her face that quickly spread to the rest of her head and neck, and she accidentally fired off her only round. All she could do after that was to cry on the floor with a eyepatch askew with nothing in her mind but pain itself; the only blessing that could ever come out of this was that she was no longer worried about danger or food.

"Did I get him!? Did I get the bandit!?" A voice called out from the window, and soon a guard with a rifle appeared there.

Rob- Haywood- Robert/Daniel/Shannon/Emma/ Valentina

Rob went around another building, thankfully there wasn't that many, as he his stomach was already groaning at him. At last he got closer to what should be the last building if his maths were correct. But as he got closer he found that one of the windows were open. The fact that sometimes people leave the windows open was a thing, if not an annoying one. But Rob knew he had to check anyway. With a small sigh he started to walk towards it, this is the kitchen.....hmmm . Rob was not helped by the fact that the angle he was walking at he could see the far wall inside the window. But then he started to hear things as he got closer. Mumbles, there were people in there. Too many, the only time people were all around in one place would be if....there was something wrong. Maybe someone was stealing something, it was the kitchen after all.

He saw Daniel, and....was it Emma? But suddenly in the corner of his eyes he saw a figure rush for the window...in his direction. In instinct he grabbed his rifle, not wanting to accidentally kill something. He decided to use the end of his gun. He thrusted the end of his gun at the figure. With a bit of thud Rob had knew that he had hit it whatever it was.

"Did I get him?" Rob walked in front of the window, What he saw surprised him, on the floor was a girl. Who was probably around 10, give or take. It was clear Rob had hit her on the face. Rob cringed at the fact that he had just smashed a little girl in the face. Even if she was stealing.

"Umm...I didn't mean......but.....the hell is going on?!"

Matt- Outpost- Rudy

Matt stomach awakened him from his day dreaming. There was a meeting to happen soon, but first he needed to eat. As he walked towards the cafeteria, he spotted Rudy. To be honest, Rudy kinda annoyed him a little. He was always so...rude...y. But Matt wanted to know how the potential new recruits were doing. "Hey Rudy, how did it go? Do they seem good?"

Rudy - Outpost - Matt

He sighed and turned toward Matt. Rudy motioned for him to follow while they walked toward the cafeteria. "They're polite, I guess. Though all the fuckin' new recruits are. Once we see them out on the field, then we'll know for sure." He paused at the cafeteria doors, one hand on the door. "Actually, they had one guy speak for them mostly. Made them seem like lackeys." He shrugged and pushed the door open. "But what the hell do I know? I let Reggie do most of the talking. He loves to do it."

Inside the cafeteria was a large open room, with benches and tables sprawled across it. The walls were lined with giant windows that let the dull grey light of day inside. It wasn't the most structurally sound building.

At the counter to the side of the room, Rudy slipped a token to the man behind it. Everyone in Outpost was issued three tokens for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Food was hardly scarce, but snacking was not a luxury they could afford. The tokens were actually just poker chips, but no one used them for poker. Rudy had once found a box of poker chips out scouting, but Reggie had made sure they had went to the council and not into Rudy's personal collection. "Please tell me you have mashed potatoes still," Rudy said.

"You're in luck, dude. I guess you want meat with it?"

"Whatever you got." Rudy leaned on the counter and turned to Matt. "So, what were you up to today?"

Enrique-Outpost Cabin-Tyler and Bex

Enrique sat by the fire and let the warmth flow over him, he was a little too close to the fire for comfort but sat there anyway staring. In his time with Thomas and the man called Bex Enrique had grown out his facial hair and formed a small beard. He had also healed from his wounds however still retained a small limp in his step from that day when he had met his new friends, he owed them his life and would do anything to help the pair out. He sat there for a bit leaning towards the fire his knife in his hands cleaning under his nails, he had lost the assault rifle he had picked up only a few days ago and now keeps his pistol in a holster under his coat. He reached on top of his head and pulled off the worn gray Toque he had found and ran his hair through his messy black hair. He held it in his hands and looked over at Thomas and then to Bex. Enrique stood and motioned Bex to come over as he approachdd Tyler.

"So do we have any plans once were in? I dont really trust these guys entirely, far too," Enrique made motions with his hands then he realized what he wanted to say, "too hospitable. I'm worried we're gonna get into something with these guys."

Jessalyn - Woods - Floyd

Jess put some more kindling on the fire. In the few weeks since the raid both she and Floyd and managed to make a camp in the woods that was relatively safe and scavenged a few things from the nearby city. Now Jess had a pot on the fire that was boiling water. They needed to boil their water to make it safe to drink, that was what Floyd said and since he was the most experienced at camping and the outdoors she listened to him.

Jess rubbed her stomach, a small smile on her lips. Floyd had really been wonderful. He was like a bear, gruff at times but really fluffy once you got close. He had stayed with her, keeping her safe and caring for her. Sometimes, when she thought about it, they were like a married couple. That thought made her cheeks take on a rosy hue and made her eyes bright. Now that she felt safe, she was able to take on what many called 'the glow' associated with pregnant women.

There were still times when she was afraid, when she had nightmares about Bruce and about her short time in the catacombs with Tyler, about Lynn and what might have happened to her. But Floyd was always there when she woke, so she felt safe enough to go back to sleep. He still seemed uncomfortable when she touched him at times, but she was getting more and more comfortable with giving him hugs and holding his hand.

Jess got up slowly, pressing a hand to her lower back to relive some of the pressure. Floyd had gone off searching for supplies. At least that's what she thought he'd done. He had just said he would be back soon and 'soon' with Floyd could mean 5 minutes or 2 hours.

Katie - Woods - Lauren, Bull

Katie hadn't spoken much in the weeks since the raid. The little girl had become very quiet, only speaking when spoken to and only answering with short usually one word answers. Her eyes were red a lot and there were dark circles under her eyes. She acted scared of Bull but clung to Lauren when things scared her.
The reason was obvious to all. She really missed her daddy. Subconsciously she still felt it was somehow her fault. She had been naughty, sneaking out of her room when daddy told her not to, spying on the men, being annoying to them because it was fun.

She had prayed every night, telling God that if he would just bring her daddy back she would be good forever. Lauren tried to tell her that it wasn't her fault, but even though she nodded the child didn't believe her.
Every time she woke up crying at night Lauren was there to hold her until she went back to sleep, but Katie had overheard Lauren and Bull talking while she was asleep. Bull was getting annoyed with having her around. She was too much trouble, too noisy, cried too much.
Katie felt like a burden to everyone.
She really wanted her daddy back...

Tears pricked her eyes and fell silently down her cheeks.

Robert - Haywood - Daniel/Shannon/Emma/Valentina/Rob

Once the child attempted to escape her situation, a sudden thud of the end of a rifle prevented her. She fell back onto the tan carpet of the entire apartment. Rob, one of Haywood's new tenants was standing at the window. He had been the one who prevented the little thief from leaving. Rob had joined just before the raid began three weeks ago. Though he was very strange, he ended up being quite helpful in the front lines. Rob had seen Robert Dalton's rant when he found out that Daniel did not take Tyler down. He was one of the tenants who knew the truth behind raid. But he never declared whose side he was on, if he stood by Robert, or if he also accepted Daniel as the new leader of Haywood.

"Nice work Rob" Robert called out to the man. He had been scheduled to patrol Haywood and keep the gates safe. "Get in here and take the child to the infirmary" he commanded, looking at Daniel as he did so. He wanted to show that he still had power in this community. "Now, I need to speak to you Daniel.............Alone" he said, exiting the man's quarters. "Shannon. Emma" he nodded, showing respect to the two. He obviously didn't care much for the child that infiltrated Haywood gates, but he would also bring that up once he spoke to Daniel in private. Robert then waited for Daniel to follow him, standing outside his apartment, arms crossed. In the meantime, he watched as the gates opened and Anthony and a group of men drove away. Their task was to find supplies and necessities. But not only that, they were told to help any survivors they found on their search. This was what Robert wanted to speak about with Daniel. Once the man took office, Haywood's population rose by about ten people. That would create a supply shortage and even more issues. All this added feud between the men, though Daniel was yet not aware of it.
Floyd - Woods - Jess

Suddenly his fist started to knock on the home's door, but there was no response. Floyd turned to the window, staring into it in attempt to catch any walkers or survivors. Without seeing anything, he returned to the door and turned the doorknob which was very odd. Slowly he opened the door, peeking into the home as the creak echoed through the empty home. The outside was a little dirty, but the inside was completely purified. The walls where as white as pre-picked cotton. "Anybody in here?" Floyd called out, knocking on the wall to call out whatever may lay inside the home walls. It was a two story home, but Floyd decided that since nothing responded to his call, there was no time to waste on going upstairs. The redneck proceeded by going into the kitchen. He checked every counter and could see they were stocked with appliances and such. When he opened the fridge, there was nothing inside. He turned to the cabinets, opening them up as quickly as possible. Forks, spoons, knives, can-openers, etc. Then to the cabinets attached to the walls. When he opened the first one, he couldn't believe it. Canned food lay inside that particular cabinet, it was completely full. He stared at the fruit, the spam, the vegetables, tuna, beans, and everything else.

He started to fill up the backpack the had found three days ago. He had went on a supply run near a convenience store where he found a corpse completely tore to pieces. He had a bad with a couple of helpful supplies. He had a flashlight that worked, brass knuckles, a tactical axe, and a couple of water bottles along with can food as well. But anyhow, as Floyd started to fill up his bag, he heard a noise upstairs. He quickly took a defensive pose, crouching slightly and pulling our that very axe he took from the dead guy. Slowly he moved out of the kitchen, cautious as he turned at every hallway intersection. He pushed himself towards the wall as he walked up the stairs. His footsteps made a faint noise as he rose up to the second floor. The noise continued, something flapping in the nearby room.

Floyd picked his axe and prepared to strike. He turned the knob to the room and opened it up slowly. He peeked into it with his axe first, then this entire body. As he turned to the noise, he quickly forced himself to strike, but froze. It was a crow, its wing stuck between the window and its frame. It seemed that it somehow got into the home, but as it attempted to leave, the window shut on its wing. But since the crow was stuck and helpless, Floyd quickly continued with his arm swing. He swung his axe and cut the crow nearly in half. Then he used the sheets from the bed in the room and covered up the entire crow as he threw it into the bag. "That's dinner" he told himself as he started to exit the home. As he walked back to the camp, he couldn't help but look back at the home. It was empty and clean, it looked nice, not a single walker in sight. He wasn't sure if anybody still inhabited it, it could make for a better camp than the two had now.

It took about thirty or forty minutes for Floyd to return to the camp. "I'm back" Floyd called out in order to prevent Jess from freaking out. He threw his bad near the fire before he sat right beside it. He un-zipped the backpack and pulled out that cut-in-half crow, placing it on his other side. "Here" he said, pulling out a can of 100% juice pineapple chunks and tossing it towards the girl. "Look, I found all this at this house just down the path" Floyd added, revealing everything inside the backpack to her. "I was thinkin we could stay there for a while, at least until we have to move on again."

"It's only a thirty minute walk form here, If we head out now, we could get there way before sundown" he added as he stood up and walked up towards the boiled water. Cautiously he dipped the water bottle into the pot. The water slowly got into the bottle, but without taking enough precaution, Floyd burned his knuckles, causing the man to jump back and curse. "F*ck!" he said, wrapping his fist with his own shirt. "Dammit" he growled as he started to bite down on his other hand to refrain from feeling the burn. It was a trick he learned on his own after experiencing unnecessary abuse by both mother and father. The reason he is so distant from people was due to their abusive behavior, turning to beat him when they had problems. If they were in a bad mood, they would take that anger out on Floyd, something he learned to live with. If he could have left when it started he would have, but understood that he couldn't survive on his own at the time. It was unfortunate for him, but it was in the past. Now he could take care of himself, so he didn't take any shit from anyone.

Joshua Morgan - Woods

Joshua stopped in front of a river as he started taking off his backpack and his Marlin, placing them on the ground. He then took out his brown hooded jacket placing it on the ground next to the backpack and the rifle. After kneeling down in front of the river Joshua places his hands inside the water grabbing some in his hands and throwing it on his face. He does the same thing 2 more times. Then he grabs water in his hands again and washes his neck with it. Then he took a deep breath of satisfaction and proceeded to take off his black v neck t-shirt. However he stopped halfway as he heard some growls and mouns behind him as well as some slow steps. Realising that he has a walker behind him he slowly puts his t-shirt back on and grabs his kukri, slowly taking it out of the sheath.

With his kukri in hand he waits for the walker to get a little more closer and then he quickly turns around and slices the walkers left leg all the way to the bone. As the walker fell on the ground Joshua dashed towards it and grabbed it by the neck. He then stabbed it 4 times in the head in a wild manner. "Mother fucker!" Said Joshua as he cleaned the blood and brains off his kukri with the clothes of the walker he just killed and got up from the ground putting it back in the sheath. As he went to his stuff and put his brown hooded jacket back on himself he heard another walker coming at him from some trees and bushes.

Joshua turned around and looked at it as he grabbed his kukri, pulling it out as he started running towards the walker and throwing himself against it. After both Joshua and the walker fell on the ground, Joshua quickly stabbed the walker in the head, releasing a shout as he was doing that. After killing it he rises up on his feet, cleans the kukri with the walker's clothes and puts it back inside the sheath as he went back to the river, took his backpack, putting it on his back and taking his Marlin from the ground and resting it on his shoulder as he continued travelling.

Bex - Outpost/Woods - Enrique

Bex sat in the armchair at the corner of the room, his right arm draped over the chair's headrest. His head was lost in thought and his gaze was locked on the ceiling. He barely noticed as Tyler entered the room and placed a small collection of knives on the table. "And here are the rest of the knives," he said amicably. He then went over to the fireplace and placed an arm over the mantle. "Sharpened to perfection." A calm silence fell over the group.

As Bex slowly went back to examining the ceiling, he wondered who's shitty job it was to keep the cabin clean and maintained. Someone had clearly put a lot of money into it once upon a time, judging by the fact that every room was expensively furnished. They even had their own kitchen with a stainless steel refrigerator, albeit with no food or electricity to make any use of it. There had probably been a generator around, but Bex imagined the folks at Outpost took it back to their main camp a while ago. It was too bad; He would kill for something baked in an oven, especially the pies his mother-in-law used to make. Sitting in front of a real fireplace, it really reminded Bex of her old place.

Enrique brought Bex out of his thoughts by motioning him out of the chair. Grunting, Bex did as he wanted and joined him and Tyler next to the fireplace. "I'm worried we're gonna get into something with these guys," Enrique said, looking at the both of them.

Tyler looked down and mulled this over. "That's a reasonable worry," he said, shrugging. He smiled and clapped Enrique on the shoulder. "But we need to start trusting people if we want to make friends. It'll be an easier life living in Outpost."

Bex waited for Tyler to say more, but after a few moments it was clear that was all he had to say. Bex decided he had to state the obvious, "Outpost could be a dump, Tom."

Tyler removed his hand from Enrique's shoulder. "Or they could be a bunch of raiders. I just don't think there's any point in worrying about it." He moved to lean against the mantle again. "We're already here. If things go sour, we'll manage somehow."

Bex was about to argue when a loud thump! was heard. Bex flipped around and looked toward the doorway. "That came from the front door," he said, speaking barely above a whisper. Without a word, Tyler grabbed a knife off the table and made a beeline for the front door. Bex followed after him, grabbing his rifle leaning against the wall along the way. They stopped at the front door, Tyler's hand on the doorknob. He shared a look with Bex before throwing the door open.

There was nothing there.

After a few silent seconds, Tyler stepped forward and poked his head outside. He then jumped as if startled slightly and bumped into Bex as he took a step backwards. A walker popped into view and filled the doorway with his sudden presence. "Shit," Bex said under his breath as he stepped backwards in order to get a shot on bastard. But it didn't matter, as when it lunged at Tyler, the man grabbed it by the arm and used its own momentum to throw it to the ground. The walker landed face first and shook the entire room. Without a hint of hesitation, Tyler plunged down on top of the beast and stabbed his knife into its head.

The man sighed wistfully. "Well then, just a walker."
Shannon - Haywood/Daniel's House - Robert/Daniel/Rob/Emma/Valentina

When the little girl pulled the revolver on Daniel, Shannon instantly stepped forward, though she had no idea what she planned on doing. There was no time to think on it as the girl then shifted her aim toward Shannon, freezing her on the spot. Words failed her, and all she could say was a whispered, "Daniel." To find herself staring down the barrel of a gun again filled her with a nerve-wracking fear and she found herself unable to look away. She was forced to examine the girl's face more intently; Her eye patch and scarred face gave Shannon vivid ideas as to whatever horrors this girl had faced before she had found herself here. With saliva dribbling down her mouth and her body wracked by shivers, Shannon worried that the girl was more than physically ill. "Take whatever food you want and go. We won't bother you."

But then Robert and Emma entered the kitchen, nearly causing Shannon to jump out of her skin. She turned her head toward Robert when he asked who the girl was, but she had nothing to say to him. The new pair proceeded to crowd into the kitchen and barrage the girl with questions. Shannon's gaze fluttered between Robert and Emma, wanting to tell them to stop. No matter how many guns were pointed at her, the girl in her apparent condition looked about ready to go off at any time, damn the consequences.

Then, before Shannon knew it, the girl was on the ground crying. Shannon's momentary relief turned into sudden sympathy. She bolted forward and kneeled next to the young girl, making a point of grabbing the girl's gun away. She listened to Robert order Rob to take the girl to the infirmary. "I'll go with him," she said, looking up at Robert. Then she turned to Emma. "You can come too, Emma."
