the creature contemplates him for a bit before patting his head with a bony hand in an oddly fatherly manner before reaching into it's robes to retreive a small, leather bound book and hand it to stefan, waving to an open door way for him to pass before returning to it's slumber in it's chair

Stefan is a bit surprised at the creature's action, but carefully accepts the book. He turns to the doorway, but stops to look back at the creature for a moment before leaving. "Thank you," he whispers. Turning back to the door, Stefan makes his way over and prepares to walk into the unknown. He takes a good look at the book in his hands, wondering what it is.

the book is small and leather bound without any title or outward marking aside from an odd symbol where the title would be, the paper appears to actually be vellum, animal skins gone through a process similar to paper which allows for easier writing. the hallway ends in a simple room with a statue of a crying maiden holding her dead child in the middle, an engraving on the plinth upon which it rests, if stefan were to go to read it, he'd find it to say "dedicated to all those that have fallen on their trial. the grandmaster wishes you luck young initiates." however there is no other exit save for the one he came through, but that one closes behind him as he enters

Stefan puts the book away for now, and goes to look at the statue. It makes him a bit sad to see it, and he hopes that his own mother will not have to go through the same thing depicted here. He missed her, and the rest of his family. Hopefully, he would somehow survive this and see them again. Looking at the plaque, he can just read it, though the word "initiates" is a bit unfamiliar to him. He decided that he should remember it for later. Without any way out, the young boy starts examining the room.

he finds that aside from the statue, the room is devoid of detail and completely smooth, leaving him to find out what about the room he must interact with in order to exit

A bit confused, Stefan checks over the room again before going back to the statue. It seems to be the only object of interest in here as far as he can see right now. He looks over the engraving again, then takes a closer look at the statue itself. He didn't know very much about sculpture, but he figured that perhaps there was some kind of clue on it or in it that even he could figure out. Others like him had managed it, right? So there had to be something.

he finds very little from just examining it, but there are a few places where it looks oddly clean, as if something had been touching it, leaving the eyes crystal clear while the rest of it has moss and grime in various places

How curious. He reaches for one of the clean-looking spots, though he has quite a bit of trouble with his short height. Would it be bad to climb on the statue? It wouldn't break, would it? He doubted he would get into trouble for doing so, but if he did break it...well, he would probably get hurt, and he would feel bad for messing it up as well. Still, maybe if he stretched a little further, he would be able to get there...
He pulls himself onto the plinth, standing where the engraving is. From there, he tries again to reach one of the oddly clear spots.

he finds the clean spot to give and seem to activate a mechanism in the statue if he were to press much harder

Eager to find out what it does, Stefan continues pressing the spot, using both hands now. His staff had to be placed down so he could do so, but it rests against the plinth near his feet for now. He wanted to be able to get to it easily if he needed to.

there's a small click as the mechanism fires and a portion of the wall rises behind the statue, but not enough to slip underneath

Stefan climbs down from his spot and picks up the staff, going to check the portion of the wall that moved. It didn't seem like an exit, but maybe there was something in there? He starts towards it, then halts, thinking about what could happen if he just got close to it without thinking ahead. There could be some sort of switch or an item in there, but there could also be something dangerous. Perhaps it would be better to look in from a short distance away, just in case. He stops about two and a half feet away and crouches down, looking around to see if anything was visible in the space in the wall.
