Liam trained Cubone by battling the Ratata and Raticate he encountered. He also got some training in for Grimm.

Shiranui had been training as well, resulting in Fushigi, Shishi and Yamamoto evolving to a Venusaur, Luxray and Pupitar respectively.

After encountering many wild pokemon, Fuchsia City was starting to come into view. Liam was excited to get to the next town.

Shiranui was also excited to get to Fuchsia City for similar reasons. He had beaten every trainer who dared challenge him and was ready for a rest stop.

At the Pokemon Center, Nurse Joy welcomed the boys. She inquired if they were in town to fight the Gym Leader. Liam informed her they were and she suggested checking out the Safari Zone first. It is full or rare and powerful pokemon, some of which have an advantage over the gym leader's pokemon.

"Tetsu and Jean can beat the gym with type alone, but I have a feeling the leader would have counter-strategies against Steel and Psychic types. As tempting as it is, I want to keep Titania out of the battle since she has a weakness to Poison types," mused Shiranui, "Alright then, let's check out the Safari Zone. It should have lots of interesting Pokémon."

Before Joy could warn the boys about something they were gone. Liam ran to the Safari Zone and opened the door., a grey haired man instantly pointed a gun at him. Liam was holding Cubone and unable to put hands up. Cubone thrw his Bone and knocked the gun out of the man's hands. "Why are you pointing a gun at people!?" Liam exclaimed. The man apologized and said he thought the kid was a poacher and introduced himself as the Warden. Liam said he and his friend who will be along on a minute came to catch Pokemon in the Safari Zone

Shiranui arrived and saw Cubone knocking a gun of the Warden's hands. "Aren't we a bit young to be poachers?" he asked, well aware that the Safari Zone held a lot of rare Pokémon.

The poacher apologized for the mix up and handed each boy thirty Safari Balls in exchange for 500 Pokedollars. One of Liam's first captures inside was a Rhyhorn

Shiranui decided to try his hand at fishing and had landed a Dratini. "Dratini, the dragon Pokémon. It is called the "Mirage Pokémon" because so few have seen it. Its shed skin has been found." He fed it some bait before catching it. He named it Ryuu and discovered it had the Marvel Scale ability.

Liam did some searching and came across a Chansey.

"Chansey ,the Egg Pokemon. It is said to deliver happiness and it lays several eggs in a day Being compassionate, it shares its eggs with injured people. The eggs are apparently rich in nutrients and extremely delicious." Liam baited the Chansey and threw a Safari Ball he caught her. "Mom will be proud." Liam thought to himself

Shiranui decided to sit and rest, but not long after, he spotted a Kangaskhan watching over her baby. "Kangaskhan, the Parent Pokémon. If it is safe, the young gets out of the belly pouch to play. The adult keeps a close eye on the youngster." The Kangaskhan heard Shiranui's Pokédex and looked over at its owner. Shiranui looked calmly at Kangaskhan and the mother kept a wary eye on him. The baby on the other hand smelled Shiranui's bait and Shiranui decided to give some to the baby as well as its mother. "I don't want you missing out," he told the mother Kangaskhan. The mother felt like she could trust Shiranui as the baby touched the capture button on one of the trainer's Safari Balls. Both Mother and child were drawn in and the ball clicked shut quicker than it normally would. "Not the preferred method of catching a Pokémon, but I'm not complaining," Shiranui commented to himself and after naming the Kangaskhan Iroha, he discovered she had the Scrappy ability. "Quite a useful ability for a Pokémon like you, Iroha."

Liam went fishing and also hooked a Dratini. After scanning it he managed to catch it.

Shiranui decided to return to the entrance.

Time expired and the two left. Liam went to transfer Pokemon into storage and turned to Shiranui ,"Ready to take on the gym?"

"Ready and raring," answered Shiranui as he deposited his two new friends.

At the gym, Liam found that the gym was filled with invisible walls. "Who puts up invisible walls?" Liam asked thinking aloud.

"We're in a ninja maze," answered Shiranui feeling at home in the gym on account of where he lived, "My father used to take me here a lot and he's shown me a lot of the traps we'll be encountering like the walls opening to a cliff drop and the Voltorb traps. I also recall seeing shuriken traps somewhere. He built his dojo where I live kind of like this before he took off to Kalos to get a certain Pokémon that fits his lifestyle."

"Well then lead the way through the maze my man." Liam said.
