I have a few ideas for the character's reason for showing up. Here's a few:

1. Sent on a recovery mission

2. Passerby crash landing due to whatever fate decided to rain down on his ship

3. Private Contractor on a different mission to the planet

4. An explorer of sorts, discovering the planet.

Just a few ideas I've been tossing around in my head, particularly number 2.

Fairly relaxed, straight forward individual who doesn't like passive aggressiveness or when people "dance around the point" per say. Generally he's very friendly towards strangers and is ironically very human in emotion, despite his now machine body. Marcus is very weary of magical thinking, however, and will be always be skeptical of the world around him.
species:
Essentially a robot with a GLADOS (Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System) processor to handle his formally human brain.
Relation:
-Born On Planet-425 otherwise known as Elisio. An earth like planet with one single mega-continent-
-Elisio is better known as the "Gray World" due to the over pollution of the atmosphere, outside environment is hostile and toxic.-
-Joined Elisio's Self Defense Force to escape a life of factory work-
-Fights in both the Kalionic Wars and in the Everon Moons uprising, but was severely injured during the preemptive invasion of Everon 1-
-Retires from the military due to severe medical condition-
-A close friend from the war visits him, now a major figure in Elisio's military, and offers up a deal as a payment of debt when Marcus saved his life back in the Kalionic Wars.-
-Gains new bionic body-
-Decides to become a private contractor, gains some success-
-Boards civilian transport vessel "Avonsta" heading for remote outer rim colonies in search of target

"And that's where I was.... But now... now I'm in a escape pod. Reactor core was melting down and I didn't have time to ask why. People were panicking, and all I could do was make a break for the escape pods and hope for the best. The ship went critical shortly after and the wave of energy knocked out my pods systems for awhile. I drifted for.... I don't know... A few weeks by now? I see a promising planet and I finally got the sensors and controls to respond. Looks like I'm caught by the planet's gravity well and its only a matter of time before I have to land this son of a bitch... I'll make a log once I got my feet on the ground.... Really lucked out.... I hope..."

Weapons:
-AH-ERW Electronic Rife-
A durable rifle that uses magnets to propel projectiles, much like a rail gun. This allows the user to fully adjust the range of the weapon and the ammunition for the weapon is incredibly cheap as all it is is a iron alloy based 7.62mm cylinder with a pointed end. Softer grade alloys are used on more... "fleshy" targets for more damage. Mercenaries and bounty hunters favor the AH-ERW for its reliability, simplicity, and cheapness. The weapon is able to last up to five years in terms of holding a charge. At that point, the user must buy a new battery for it. The AH-ERW can be disabled in combat with a EMP, though only temporarily.

-KVW-89 "White Wolf" SMG-
A compact, 11mm sub machine gun that has a high rate of fire and is incredibly common.

-Two HE Fragmentation Grenades-

-One Breacher Charge (About the size of a brick)-

-A simple, Fixed Blade Knife that's about 7 inches long-

I made it so he crashed like, around 40 or so yards away. So the other your character and AliceZaru's character would definitely be able to see and hear it (probably even feel the ground shake a bit from the violent tumbling), but not close enough for them to get hurt by it. Also Marcus just popped his head out the pod and obivously hasn't seen them yet, giving you guys a chance to do your own response if you want to.

Hope that helps clear things up a bit.
