Age: Four days, technically.
Species: Land God
History: Val Kaireiss was the name of a Land God, a spiritual guardian who protected the land that they inhabited from the forces of evil, which, in the past, often took the shape of natural disasters. Empowered by the prayers of the people during times of need, Val would use his sovereignty over the land to create miracles, chasing away plagues or blowing apart storms. With a single sword, he smote the hordes of demons who rode the skies, walked the earths, and terrorized the waters. Each battle corrupted him further, but it was through the same prayers and offerings that empowered him in which he was cleansed. Before towns become states and states became countries, he was one of the many who shielded mankind from the creatures lurking in the darkness.
Yet such times were ending, as the organization known as the Dawn Slayers began their own duties, indiscriminately slaying those who were not human, establishing new religions under the god that they served. Even as Val Kaireiss continued to perform his duties as a Land God, fighting off those monsters who slipped under the radar of the knights, offerings and prayers were dwindling, as the townspeople began to praise the Dawn Slayers instead. They paid tithe to the church, paid for the services of the knights, and soon, regardless of how many natural disasters Val staved off, he became forgotten. His shrines laid in disrepair, and every time he fought, he only took in more corruption. Unable to purify the affliction, he fell further and further into the darkness. He started despising humans for turning their backs so readily on him, and he slowly became what he once fought.
Plaguing the land that he once protected, he wielded his sword against humans this time, bringing calamity upon calamity onto the land. He decimated the ranks of the Dawn Slayers, at the helm of the demons, and was felled not by a power that was magical or physical, but an inexplicable ability that, even now, he didn't understand. At the end of his carnage, the god was slain at the cost of tens of thousands of Dawn Slayers.
Centuries passed by, and Val Kaireiss was at peace, recovering slowly with the passing of time. Corruption had left him, and a town was once again rebuilt on the land he once protected. The Dawn Slayers erected a school above him, Hikari Ryodan Academy, and balance was maintained in the world.
Four days before the first term began, Val Kaireiss once again regained consciousness, possessing much of his memories, but none of his former power. Finding himself within the school, he wandered about a bit, before meeting a person who introduced herself as the principal. With no knowledge of the current world, he decided that it would probably be a good thing to enroll in the school, and join the organization that caused his downfall.
Personality: Val Kaireiss is, all things considered, a Land God, one who isn't exactly omnipotent, nor totally righteous, but still someone who knows much about how the world operates on the larger scale of things. He's knowledgeable in all things regarding nature, but still has no idea what a selfie is, nor any of those 'modern, unmanly' sports that seems to be popular right now. He's still a level-headed person who views it as his duty to protect all humans, animals, and plants in his land, but now that the humans have gotten to the point of becoming cancerous to the rest of nature...he's struggling with the question of whether to aid humans at all.
Notable Skills or Abilities: Val Kaireiss, in his current incarnation, does not have the power to single-handedly decimate hundreds of demons any longer. However, he still possesses other traits of a Land God, being able to hear, see, and feel anything that remains within the town, as well as possessing superhuman senses regardless. His sword, Arc-in-Light, no longer exists, having shattered in the battle hundreds of years ago, but he still holds the remaining shards, allowing him to move them at will at bullet-like speeds.
His most noticeable ability, though, is his mobility. Val possesses both the ability to fly, as well as the ability to teleport for short distances, which is, unfortunately, only a shadow of his former capability of becoming omnipresent. His powers still rely on the donations and prayers of people, but at this point, he's fine with just getting some free food during lunch. To regain his former power, it would require the hopes and offerings of all the people in the country...which wouldn't happen, in a world dominated by other religions.
