[OOC] The Miller Valley Counseling Center - Support Group RP

Here in the small town of Miller Valley, Virginia sits a small building. It's unmarked, and honestly unremarkable in appearance. What it holds inside, however, are the secrets and the lives of individuals from every walk of life, looking for solutions, or just a shoulder to cry on. This is the Miller Valley Counseling Center, perched in the middle of a lonely gravel road in all its glory.

The Rules:

What I say goes, and if I say change something, it's not personal. It's just me trying to keep this RP going and keep some standards in the writing here. You may make any character you want, and I encourage you to play more than one character, to flesh things out a little bit, but every character must have a sheet.

Biography: Travis is the normal popular football jock. He is the quarterback for his high school team of town. He's got a girlfriend named Chelsea who is obviously the head cheerleader, but he is just with her because... well, he feels like he's suppose to be. He tries not to but often gets pressured into bullying kids and that just stacks onto his dread of going home. Travis' father hits him daily, hard. Travis has been told he should go to the group to try and get some of the stuff off his chest after the school counselor found out about his bruises.

Problem/Addiction: Bipolar I Disorder

Biography:
Hjordis is snarky and borderline rude, and she rarely shares her feelings or opens up to people. She generally gets anxious around people she doesn't know, and copes by turning her bitch level to 11.

H had been entirely typical before her first symptoms of Bipolar disorder hit with a burst of anxiety. She played violin, had friends, somewhat-friends and teenage drama over nothing and its family, and had relatively normal and mundane interactions with everyone around her. That is, until she spent almost all of the money she had been saving for a car on video games in a couple of weeks, and a month later she wouldn't even get out of bed to eat. The cycle continued until she had lost almost all of her friends and her grades had dropped to failing, and doctors not able to decide what her actual problem was. H had been misdiagnosed 4 times before they finally figured out what was wrong, and had been on 3 different medications for that problem until they figured out which one actually worked. Now she is required to go to the group and make some friends before she's allowed back into the high school - something she isn't looking forward to.

Scars: Self harm scars line her left wrist, and the bend of her elbow is heavily scarred from blood tests and IV's.

Outfit: She's wearing a white and pink sundress with frills peeking out of the bottom. Her feet are adorned in Dr. Marten combat boots (white) and she's wearing a 'too large' hoodie to cover her sensitive skin from the air conditioning and sun (if she ventures outside). Because of her condition, she's also carrying a small bag, which doubles as a purse and an oxygen transporter.

Problem/Addiction: Cancer (in remission - former stage three brain, which spread to her lungs and kidneys).

Biography: Ryland came to this town after her family was forced to leave their 'riches' behind and move closer to the cancer treatment center she was a patient at. The doctors worked hard to cure whatever it was that was eating away at her brain, but it had quickly spread to her lungs and kidneys, and for a while, they feared that it had spread to her bones. After a good bill of health, Ryland fell into remission, her lungs scarred and one kidney missing. She holds scars of someone much older and wiser than herself, and holds great pride in her life, now that the darker days are over. Her hair has grown back to a normal length, and although she's forced to wear an ugly ass mask on her face, she finally feels beautiful and healthy, like a normal girl. However, her doctor referred her to Miller Valley Counseling, to connect with others, in hopes that she can help them appreciate their life a little better, if nothing else.

Outfit: Most of the time he's in a simple black t-shirt, a pair of worn but expensive jeans, converse sneakers, and sometimes a blue slouch beanie. He wears a leather jacket over his tshirt during the colder months, or when the counselors decide to turn the air down to 'freeze your balls off'.

Problem/Addiction: Clinical Depression (according to the doctors)

Biography: Adam's one of the rich kids. His family is the wealthiest family in Miller Valley, and always have been, since it's founders day. Because of this, he has certain expectations all around, that he's supposed to live up to. He's supposed to be regarded, and pristine. He's supposed to hold his head high, and shame those that are beneath him. However, when he started high school, he began to sympathize with those he was supposed to be shaming, so hard. He began to see the good in some of them, outside of the fact that they had nothing, and according to the town, were nothing. After a while of hanging out with the 'low life' crowd at his school, his mother and father had him checked out by a doctor, who, possibly under the tension of his parents, diagnosed him with clinical depression. He's here at the center on orders from the doctor, and on advisement of his school counsellor, who agreed with his parents on every aspect of his life; and agreed he was throwing it away on people who would never matter...

Biography:Victoria had grown up a moderately happy child. Mother, father, 1.2 siblings. What could be classified as the normal southern family. That was until Victoria started to act strange. Outbursts, fits of rage, periods where she would disapper for hours, days even. Until finally coming to her senses and coming back home like there was nothing wrong. Her strange behavior caused her parents to worry, and finally uproot there family and move to Miller Valley. If properly medicated, Victora is a normal 19 year old girl, who loves shopping photography and boys. But, miss one dose and she slips back to her old self. Vee's doctor suggested she go to the support group to try and keep a level head.

Scars: A long scar going up from his lower to upper abdomen when he "fell through a window." a few small scars on his head hidden by his hair, and another long scar going up under his wrist to his elbow from the same "fall" scars from the surgery on his legs rarely if ever wears shorts.

Outfit: look to Appearance pic, jeans are a faded black almost gray rather than blue, wears higher cropped t-shirts and such to cover top of the scar on his body.

Problem/Addiction: addicted to narcotics, pain medication

Biography: Xavier had been that guy in High School, he was that one day NFL player who didn't get his chance due some leg injury. During a game he was tackled hard, the other guy's helmet catching his knee and a dog pile ensued. When everyone got up that was when people saw his leg, twisted and the bone protruding from it. He was on the ground in shock and didn't register the pain until he sat up and saw his own leg. He was immediately rushed to a hospital and had extensive surgery on his right leg. He spent two years recuperating and then another year just trying to walk again. During this time is when he started taking more and more pain meds, using his own money and his parents money to fuel his addiction. His father found out and in a fit of rage discarded his son like he was garbage, taking him and dragging him down the their houses stairs and tossing him out the door, his arm going through a window. His father not done took a piece of glass and deeply salshed Xavier's chest, his mother finally got him to stop and they called a hospital, they told a fake story of how he and his father were working on the house and he fell because his knee locked up and he slammed into and through a window pane. They didn't believe them but Xavier told the doctors that it was the truth, no other signs of abuse were on him and it did seem like a fall, albeit a bigger one than his parents had let on. When he was 19 he finally graduated high school, having to be out for three years he didn't know or trust anybody in his grade, and his old friends stopped coming by. This made him take to the pills even harder, he just got better at hiding them. He started living near the college when he turned 22 and enrolled that same year, hoping that this could be the way he kicked the habit for good. He tends to be quiet, despite how "loud" his jacket talks. He isn't self depreciating but after the injury he doubts himself more, he tends to have a rapier tongue if he feels like people are making fun of him. He is quick to check out a strange noise, looking about.

I've kind of already set my character up for a relationship, and I think it's kind of cute to have the others hang out with the two of mine, knowing that something is blossoming.

Outfit: Casual wear. His usual line up is a hoody over a t-shirt, boxers, worn out sneakers, and jeans usually have wear and tear holes on the knees.

Problem/Addiction: PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), alcoholism.

Biography: Colin grew up a fairly normal kid, nothing too outstanding about him. He got average grades, had an average job, had a couple friends, and had a great relationship with his parents. However that changed when he went out to a party, after a couple of drinks Colin got a little tipsy and went outside. Deciding it was a nice night he felt like a walk was in order. As Colin stumbled around town, a man pulled him into an alleyway and roughed him a bit. With Colin dazed the attacker tried to...have his way with him. Seeing what the man was going to do, Colin freaked out and hit him with a rock that had been lying around. When the man tried to come after Colin again, he retaliated and hit him again, and again, and again, until the mans head was just paste on the ground. When Colin finally composed himself, he called the police and waited. After that day Colin hasn't really been the same, he has nightmares and flashbacks, its cost him his job, his friends, and his grades. Worried, his parents have told him to go to this support group. Having nothing else to do, Colin joins.

Oh dear, someone else picked up PTSD... It's more common than people think, but is it ok with you to have two people with similar problems? I mean, my character wasn't assaulted, so the story behind it is different.

If it's not ok, give me some time. I do have another idea.

Yeah, if you want you should totally go for it. Would probably do both our characters some good to have someone with first hand experience on what the other is feeling.

Biography: Jinayah's parents were cops in the big city. Their lives were lost when a criminal her father put away came to the house looking for revenge. Jin escaped solely because the killer didn't know she existed, as she hadn't been born when he was arrested. Jin fled the house during the murders, and was lost to the city. She was homeless for several years, learning to steal for survival. She was adopted after 6 years, but the damage had already been done.

Her guardian has more or less forced her to come to the Center, because he worries that if she doesn't stop breaking the law, she'll wind up in real prison as soon as she hits legal age.

It's fine for more than one person to have the same problem. Absolutely!

Just please make sure you keep your posts very literate (little to no spelling errors and at least a paragraph...one liners will be warned once and then kicked for second offences). I'm accepting without a writing sample, because I believe in giving people a chance. Don't let me down.

Biography:
Charlotte was born the only child to a mother who suffers from Borderline Personality disorder and a father who was caring but ultimately focused on his wife rather than his daughter. Due to her mother's disorder, Charlotte is often timid and unsure in public, taught to fear that every word from her mouth could bring anger and retaliation seemingly out of thin air. As a result she spends most of her time inside of her own imagination where she feels safe. However eventually, unable to cope with the violent mood swings of her mother, Charlotte turned to dieting at 15 despite her healthy body weight in order to regain some sense of control in her life. She soon lost hold of it and it devolved into anorexia, and with it came the self hatred and obsessions so common for sufferers. Ultimately she began harming herself to relieve the extreme feelings of despair over what seemed to her to be an unnaturally thick body. Eventually her parents began to notice, and despite her mother's insistence that it was just a phase, her father decided it would be best for her to receive counseling.

I'm excited to see the interactions of these characters. By the way, can we set up a sort of, order of posting? I haven't been active on here or on any rp site in a while but I usually dislike it when two or three people get multiples posts in before some get one. If not that's fine.

We can, but I will say that if it becomes a bit constraining (because of the fact that sometimes people are having conversations with each other, while others are pretty inactive), then there will be passes. That's just to keep it from getting so slow that no one cares to wait their turn to post and drops out.
