Honestly I'd just suggest letting people post where their comfortable.Your casual standards being the minimum, but people are free to aim for the Advanced standards as well when the mood suits them. Dividing the players in this RP by skill level groups will only serve to divide the community helping make this RP.

I've only read up on the last page or two, but this thread has clearly had a damn sight more development than 90% of INTs on this site. If/when it gets to IC, count me in.

Very well. The crowd has spoken. I will drop the 2 Category model and embrace the 'Minimum Standard Model' instead. I have some reservations though, but we'll try it out and see what happens.

I might post the real interest check soon in both the Casual and Advance section within a few days.

In the meantime, I need input on how the RP should be formatted. Basically, we're going to go with the model that the RPers get to act, but cannot decide any results. But there's more to this than that. Results of any action, by the way, will be based on the intelligence and practicality of the decisions and actions versus the aliens, with maybe some leeway given whenever there's potential to further the story and the RP along. Are you guys okay with that? Other than that...

Back to how the RP should be formatted... I know that having an order of posting will kill an RP immediately as all it takes is for one guy to suddenly disappear for things to slow down, so what we'll get is simply free-form orderless posting with these rules:

- Always wait for RPers you are interacting with to post unless informed by said RPers to go ahead (due to certain reasons such as real life)

- In the event of the sudden disappearance of an RPer, the rest of the present RPers will get to post 2-3 more times before having to wait.

- An RPer who has disappeared without informing the GM or Co-GM for a week will be 'put in stasis' with his character/s converted to NPC until s/he returns. The character/s will not be protected from whatever might happen. If the RPer is still gone after 2 weeks total, s/he will be dropped from the RP permanently with no chance of rejoining again.

But other than posting order, I need you guys to check out the way things will pan out on the battlefield. I'm thinking of this:

RPers + GM/Co-GM Posts (Any number will do, as long as there's an impact on the battlefield. GM/Co-GM will control all NPCs)

Alien Activity (By the GM/Co-GM, which can be anything from a door slamming in the distance to a squad of Sectoids opening fire on the PCs with Chrysallids coming up behind. NPCs will still be moving around, reacting and stuff.)

Random Events (Shit happens, such as a character's gun jamming, an NPC freaking out and running/friendly firing/freezing up or an explosion, but these will be things that your character could respond to(unless you don't want him to))

Do note that there's no fixed order of play, but it'd basically be a chain of RPers posting, then things happen before RPers react, things happen again- so on and so forth.

***

And one last thing. RP disputes.

Whenever there's a dispute, I have an idea on how to go about settling things. Instead of asking everyone to shut up and suck it up with no hope of the dispute ever being resolved ever, I prefer to hash things out in OOC instead. All parties will be required to be civil. It will basically be an open court, with both sides stating their case. Assuming that everyone's reasonable, compromises will be made. Everyone, including neutral parties, will get a say in things, but must be civil and logical/reasonable for their voice to be heard.

I've had horrible experiences with GMs who choose to suppress things and deliver decisions that will either benefit only one party or no one at all (causing the RP to fall apart). I've had particularly terrible experiences with 'mock courts' that will only ostracise and single out newbies or one particular RPers. I hate politics. So there you go. What do you guys think?

However, itty bitty minor things can be settled in PM. In fact, if the parties so chooses, they can settle it in PM as long as nothing serious happens and the job gets done.

Seems good
I do have a question though.
Since the max squad size in the game is 6 soldiers, and I I think we should keep it that way as more people in the squad would attract waaaaay to much attention, will we have multiple squads? Possibly multiple sky-rangers as well so we don't leave others sitting out at the base while other people are on the mission.
And will the opition to get Psionics, genetic augments, or cybernetic augments become available later?

As duck said, 'seems good.'

I think multiple squads would jumble up the RP. It might get confusing if more than one squad goes on multiple missions, or more than one squad on one mission.

"STRIKE ONE. STRIKE TWO. STRIKE THREE. STRIKE FOUR. ALPHA. BRAVO' Etc.

I think you guys are thinking too much of the game. I'm basing the RP more on reality than anything. There won't be a squad of 6 soldiers. I believe I've mentioned this before, but the initial size of XCOM (Or UNXIPU) will be 4 squads of 10, though they won't all be deployed at once, and neither will an entire squad be deployed all the time. It depends on the situations I guess.

XCOM will never be alone either, as this is a game concerning the world. I won't spoil too much for you guys :D. For starters, XCOM/UNXIPU itself consists of numerous departments, and even scientists and engineers might take to the field if the situation requires it. XCOM has a security department too, so you might find them around your characters in places other than behind a desk, drinking a mug of coffee. Then there's the various law enforcement, paramilitary, military and international organisations that might/will get involved.

Technological advancements are a guarantee in the RP, though how far will we go, I'm not sure. I want the RP to be as freeform as possible.

There's another thing I thought about... Which is to divide the RP into seasons. Once enough progress in the story has been made, a season will end and a new one will eventually begin... With or without players and characters from the previous seasons. Characters that get left behind will, of course, ultimately be traceable, and they could be anywhere between being transferred to being retired or killed. They could come back out of the blue too. What do you guys think?

The seasons idea is fantastic.

It'd be like an X-Com TV show!

Also, since technological advancements are a guarantee...

Me want.

Yeah... :D I wish they'd hurry up and stumble on an XCOM movie and TV show idea already :D

Anyway, it looks like we've discussed all we can here. Unless you guys have anything else, I'll focus all my efforts on starting up the RP's interest check(s). Cheers!

Are there going to be any new alien types?

Most of it all seems good.

The only part that worries me is the 2 weeks, out for good thing.
Someone could have a very serious life event hit them all of the sudden, or just really bad technical issues. This would cause them to be cut off for weeks, I think after the 2 week mark we should simply have it 'Person must have a very good reason for being absent to be let back in approach' rather than '2 weeks and you're out for good' approach.

So what would be our starting gear if i chose to play? like would we be using real world weapons or just a standard assault rifle? Same with the armor and other things we could have. I am interested in this cause i was a big fan of enemy unknown.

Ugh, trying to put out a suggestion for a new alien type but I don't know what-
...

Ethereal Commando
The Ethereal Commando is physically weak, only slightly stronger than the average Ethereal. Their bodies have atrophied up to the point where the only thing keeping them alive is their mental ability. Some of their organs are underdeveloped with some sensory organs not working at all, requiring the need for their specialized armour. Their brain, however, is very well developed and requires the largest blood supply in their body.

It appears as though the heavy Alloy armour these Ethereals use are powered completely by their Psionic abilities. It seems like the Armour is integrated inside the body, much like a Floater. It strengthens the Ethereals muscles, organs and bones. The armour provides complete resistance to conventional bullets, and lasers, only damaged by Plasma.

The trade off for these enhanced physical abilities, however, is weakened Psionic strength, as it is used to power the armour. (Though, their psionic abilities are still a force to be reckoned with.) To compensate, there are various weapons in the armour. Further research is required."

Basically, ETHEREAL WITH POWAHD ARMAR AND GUNZ. Because fuck fairness, this is X-Com.

We will most likely start with gear from our character's services and then get the more advanced XCOM Armor and projectile weapons later in
And later, LAZORS.

I guess I'll remove the permanent ban rule then. I would have thought that 2 weeks is enough for someone to recover from all kinds of real life stuff, but I guess I'm wrong.

Anyway, yes, in the beginning, your character begins with gear transported to base with him/her, but if his/her parent organisation decides not to do that, well, tough luck, s/he's going to have to use those dusty surplus gear provided by the African nations.

As for new aliens other than those found in the XCOM games.... Let's just say that there's going to be alot of them :)

Yeah, though do take note that this RP will take place in 2020... So M16s and AK47s are severely outdated, and since we're dealing with aliens here...

Well, in theory anyways, all guns that are modern would not be obsolete within 5 years. They would have newer versions so like the M16A2 (Standard issue for Marines) would most likely be a M16A4 or 5. Along with some newer guns sure, but it takes a while for a gun to be developed, tested, and then sent to combat before it becomes standard issue. Even then it takes years for it to be phased in and other guns phased out.

I agree with you that they would be considered old guns but their newer variants would still be in use. specially if they are proficient with that weapon.

Plasma beats all of that.

Again, give me a Plasma Rifle, GM, and I'll lead the squad to victory.
