MiraBorn Kenny AleksandrovWhen Kenny was five, he became very ill one day, and over the next week, he underwent some changes that would be more significant later on in his life. The most noticeable change was the coloring of his eyes, which had changed from s deep brown to two different colors; one eye became more green, the other became greyish blue. They also became more glossy. His body had some changes that wouldn't show as well until later on, particularly his body mass decreasing and facial features permanently losing some level of masculinity. The most useful, in his opinion, was a greatly increased metabolism and nearly boundless energy and wakefulness. It kept him skinny, no matter how much he ate, and he rarely ever had to sleep. It also meant pain pills and medicines had to be taken far more frequently and weren't nearly as strong. Also, it has prevented him from growing most body and facial hair beyond what it was before puberty.
Kenny lost the entirety of both his arms, and both his parents, in a car accident on the way to school two years later. There were three cars involved, and he was in the middle one. Obviously, he didn't go to school that day. Or really ever again, not directly. As there was no one in the family who could take him in, he went into the foster system, and soon found a permanent home before his eighth birthday.
His new family had taken him downtown, and they had been shopping in various small stores along Main Street. A man named Edward Coates saw potential in Kenny when he passed him on the street that day, seeing his unusual eyes; one the color of the sea, the other the colors of a forest. Kenny's unusually feminine features (which would only get more feminine as he aged) made him easy to disguise as a young girl for a much larger profit. Coates had little to do with the actual dressing and making up of Tora, and only saw him once afterward, just as he was being sold to an overseas buyer. Kenny continued to dress as a girl since then so he wouldn't be found so easily by Coates when the buyer refused to pay. That, and he honestly believed he was meant to be a girl, and that was what his body had been trying to tell him.
Kenny wishes to one day see his adoptive family again, even if he has to see them with his new identity and never reveal to them who he is. For now, however, he is willing to ignore them and get his revenge on those who kidnapped and sold him. Until he can be sure he won't be hounded by those who he believes would bring him harm, he is forced to live as Mira. She won't openly admit it, of course, but she really doesn't mind it at all, as she feels more comfortable to be herself as a girl.
Mira has a strong dislike of anyone who is average. She quickly loses interest in people if they're "boring" (what's boring changes a little bit over time, but not by much) and breaks off any type of relationship with them.
Having no way of getting home, no form of identification, and no money, Mira has been living in the streets of the city. She's gotten some assistance, and even stayed with an artist for a while (until they were evicted), where she got her shirt. Being young and not having any arms, it wasn't too hard for her to get food or help from people who felt sorry for her. It also helped a lot when she told her story to them (leaving out that she was physically a boy, which worked, as his voice changed almost unnoticeably at puberty). Combined with an adorable foreign accent, she could get almost anything from anyone who cared at all. Wanting to be self-sufficient, she almost always refuses to live with anyone, and always refuses monetary help and social workers; she used to move to a new city every time social workers tried to help.
Mira believes that fate is nothing but a fancy word for "unexplained cause and effect relationships", believing that everything happens as a result of something else. This belief to her seems far more structured than "Everything happens for a reason", "God works in mysterious ways", or any other similar statement. She does follow a system of beliefs that comes from her family and things he's seen: There is a Goddess who revels in chaos, but not openly; true chaos is silent and unexpected, but can be traced back to a set of actions. Maleol left the world when she tired of the predictability, and will return when silent chaos fills it. Mira sees herself as the one and only priest(ess) of Maleol, and must therefore act as such; the puppeteer of the great chaos. That isn't to say she's egotistical (as that would make people less likely to fall for her deception), just that he believes even the smallest action can snowball into a world war.
She is rather well-educated, and has learned a lot from spending time in libraries. She managed to get an unofficial job, getting "paid" under the table, at one library, though they didn't like her putting books away on higher shelves; while she didn't have a problem doing it and never once got hurt in the process, the concept of a girl on a high ladder, putting books away with her feet, and not able to hold on to the ladder was kind of a safety issue. She didn't want them to pay her in money, so they bought food for her instead.
She has definitely developed incredible flexibility at the cost of slightly deformed toes. She makes sure to paint her toes so people don't notice how long and stringy they are.
