Appearance:
Personality: Kirin’s smirk is something most enemies are unhappy to see—when she smiles, it’s because she knows she can win. She is a swift, brutal fighter who is more than capable of victory in a one-on-one brawl. If she can corner someone, the battle is over. Brash, bold, and fierce, Kirin is a proud young woman with a temper. Despite her tendency to blow a fuse in social situations, her mind is uncannily sharp when necessary. She doesn’t like losing, but doesn’t dwell on it when it happens. She only looks forward to the next rematch.
She is generally sarcastic and flippant, particularly towards her sensei, but she actually respects him very much. Mature for her age and physically well-developed, Kirin is often mistaken for an older ninja by other genin. With her trademark half-smile and a heart of steel, she is prepared to fight for her home.
History: Born to a bumbling, well-meaning mother and a gentle, soft-hearted father, Kirin Haranai spent an uneventful childhood in a large home near the heart of Konohagakure. Kirin was largely unaware of the political strife tearing the land apart, spending her time as a companion to her deaf grandmother Akane while her parents and grandfather worked. Miho Haranai, her father Sanzo, and her husband Hiroyuki ran the local book shop, supplying the family with steady income as Sai’s empire flourished.
Akane Haranai had, at one time, been an exceptional kunoichi; she was a ferocious warrior whose blazing red hair and orange eyes had been a beacon during many times of strife. Even in her waning years, she retains remarkable abilities, passing her adeptness to Kirin through a series of ‘self-defense’ lessons. While she taught her granddaughter no jutsu, Akane was thorough in preparing her for life as a fighter. In the months since the death of Sai the Conquerer, Akane Haranai has returned to her position as a shinobi, coming out of retirement specifically to nurture a new generation of ninja. With her red hair streaked with white and orange eyes still gleaming with resolve, she encouraged Kirin to attend the newly reformed Konoha Academy.
The classes Kirin took as a student were an awakening for her—she had always known she was meant to be a warrior, but she had never had a chance to fight. Her grandmother had always been careful to keep her from discovered her abilities, in case Sai’s reign continued. In the wake of his demise, Kirin is now able to fight in the open, which has always been her dream. Unfortunately, her shinobi skills are not what they should be.
Kirin sweated for every grade she got, maintaining a steady but below average performance in her classes. All of her attention was devoted to genjutsu and ninjutsu, easily her weakest subjects. Her taijutsu is exceptional, her only saving grace, as her Transformation jutsu was so weak it almost prevented her from graduating. She can only create a single clone at a time, and it is an immense drain on her concentration; her Body Replacement is good, but nothing special. She is terrible with handseals and tends to avoid using them if she can.
