Penny
"...for they are Phoenixs, and Phoenixs are famous for one thing"That gave Penny pause, and she put down the folk loaded with food, and she bowed her head, so that she was looking at the bar itself. She swallowed the mouthful of food she had, and let the memory flow.
Flash Back
She was sixteen. And she was in the bloody freezing cold, wearing nothing but the clothes she had fled the house in, fled her "Father". Fled the cold, empty house that hadn't been a home since her mother had died. Been beaten to death, Penny knew that now. And so she had fled.
But she could have bloody gone somewhere warmer. She might run hot, but this was damn freezing. She was shaking, and wishing she had thought to snag a jacket on her way out. And maybe some food. Berries and stuff was all very good, but what she wouldn't give to manage to hunt a rabbit or something.
How long had she been running for? A couple of days, at the least. And why had she run to the cold? Because her birth mother was this way, she knew that. Maybe, she could find a home again.
Which wasn't going to happen if she didn't bloody get up, out of the snow. But she was cold, so tired, and so hungry. Her eyes closed on their own accord, and she was out of it before she could even understand that.
She woke up warm, and in what appeared to be a cave. She blinked, and went to move, but found that she had actually been Swaddled in what appeared to be a massive blanket.
"You were foolish, child. what did you expect to do, walking around like you were?" She jolted, but the damn swaddling locked her up, as she looked about, seeing a man sitting on a large rock, a fire in between them, watching her, almost curiously.
"Trying to find...home" She muttered, looking away, "And I'm not a child. I'm sixteen"
The man laughed, a sound that was quite...musical despite the mans size. Penny found herself drawn to that sound, and she looked over at the man. "Oh, you are still a child, Child. Just old enough to think you are an adult, but still young enough that you are a child" The man had kind, green eyes, with specks of yellow in them, and Penny found herself staring at them. His hair, a startling red, flopped over them.
She frowned over his words, and then after a moment or two, said "Who are you?"
the man smiled, and it completely transformed his face, making it appear younger, and more...joyful. "I, dear child, am Solias. May I have your name, as well?"
Penny debated this for a moment or two, before she said "Penelope. Or Penny, rather" She said softly.
"Well, Penny, why didn't you use your magic to keep you warm?"
Penny looked towards Solias, blinking, wondering just what she had got herself into. Even though she had had nothing to do with being in this situation. "How did you know about my magic?" She asked, eventually, eyes narrowing.
"Because, dear child, I sense it in you. Phoenix Slayer Magic. It intrigues me you don't seem to have any formal training in it. No Phoenix has taught you this magic. So, how did you come by it?" Solias did indeed seem quite curious, and eager for her answer.
"I just learned fire magic by myself" She muttered, looking away. it meant nothing to her, this title of magic. She strained against the blanket, and then gave a frustrated cry, before igniting the blanket.
It just caused Solias to laugh, again.
She was just growing more and more frustrated at this. "And Just how do you know what it is?"
"because, dear child, I am a phoenix"
She snorted, and sitting up, looked over at him, annoyed at this joking. Seemed like this was all just a joke, all just nothing. For if Phoenix's existed, then surely the world would be different to what it was. "You're a man, not a Phoenix" She said, letting her annoyance show in her voice.
Solias just smiled, in clear joy. And then, he seemed to be engulfed in flames, appearing as one of the Firey birds of legend. And Penny gave a cry, leaped back on the bed she had woken up on, and Solias returned to what was evidently his human form, chuckling with clear amusement.
End FLash back
Penny stared at her food, not moving, as the memory flashed through her. Solisa was the reason why she disliked riddles so much, why she hated it when people danced around the truth. Always speaking in riddles, Solias had been annoying as hell, even if he had been informative on her magic.
Not that she had ever used it. Slaying Phoenix's had never been something she wanted to do. Solias might have been annoying, but he was an all around good guy. She didn't see the need for that magic. Now, she did. If only, she had the sort of magic that could help heal others, that side of Phoenix Magic seemed denied her.
But she could hunt a Phoenix down.
She pushed off from the bar, and headed to her room, changing clothes, shoving a warm parka into a pack with some other things, then went back downstairs. but along the way, she bumped into Jarvis.
Jarvis
Jarvis appeared thoughtful, and he said softly, slowly, as if the idea was something he didn't truly understand himself.
"Have you ever actually considered that she needs to accept them, as both apart of herself, and apart of her magic?" he sighed softly, wishing he knew more, or could do more.
"if we could find any of the ones that are apart of putting them on her we might have some answers"As Penny joined them, she seemed in a hurry, as she quickly said
"Sorry. Can you tell the master I'm heading out, and don't know when I'll be back?" She didn't even wait for an answer, running down the stairs.
Jarvis blinked, and looked back to Ellis,
"it could also be as simple as the fact that they take a large amount of energy to summon. If one uses too much magic in one go, a sickness can occur"Sasha
Sasha looked around the guild, as if glad to be home, and weary to be leaving it so soon. But this was something she had to do, so she would. She stretched, and moved to head out the guild.
She still hadn't removed the Guild mark, and she didn't know if she was going to remove the guild mark that connected her to her Edolas Self.
"SHall we go?"
