How about, once activated, the lacrima uses a null magic to cancel or weaken all magic in an area. However, it only can be activated for a certain amount of time and only has a certain amout of magical power to cancel, one exausted it reqirers time to recharge.

Well, I'm not Lugubrious so I can't exactly tell you the reason why they are about to fight, but I think it is just to get some exposure for the Mystic Beasts. The Mystic Beast are kind of like Celestial Spirits, but with vastly different mechanics. I can't explain it very well, but if you want information about the Mystic Beast you can check here for all the know-how about what and who they are. I would also like to say they may be important? Lugubrious was talking about them being antagonist in some sort of way, so it might happen, but it might not. I don't know.
