Although I haven't started playing through Xenobalde Chronicles X. Those are the only similar things that I know about that the two games.

The world in Xenoblade Chronicles (first game). Takes place on two massive titans on what seems (and could be) an endless ocean.

Xenoblade Chronicles X (latest game) takes place after Earth was destroyed, humanity retreated ,and crash landed on an alien world. Also, I guess it's a good thing that they were lucky enough to crash into a planet that they can breath in lol

But ya, they're both in different "universes". I'm putting quotes there because the end of Xenoblade Chronicles has a really big spoiler.
