@LmpkioHey, he deserved it. He went above and beyond what was needed in the fight, simply because he let his emotions drive his actions. He was angry at Gabriel for bringing up bad memories, angry at Marlene for coming to attack him for something that, to him, wasn't that big of a deal, and just angry at himself for trusting Isla so blindedly and not seeing her for what she is. He never shows indication of these emotions, as he thinks that the only way to control his power is to shut then away and pretend that he feels differently. Of course, this only strengthens the hold the magic has over him as a result of all this built up emotion. He's denying his darker side, and thus, giving it power through his resentment.
