Keep these issues in mind:

- Convos can involve 2+ people.
- One person shouldn't be able to end a conversation for everyone else. They can only drop out.

---

## My Idea:

- There's are "Leave" and "Delete" buttons on the convo screen.

When you "Leave" a conversation:

- You get crossed off the participants list for posterity.

- The remaining participants can remain talking.
- You can't be invited back to the convo (once the invitation system is implemented)
- The convo gets moved to some sort of convo archive folder/tab. (From which you can then manually delete it)

When you "Delete" a conversation:

- It both leaves and deletes it.

The main function of delete is to keep your irl girlfriends from reading your convos with your guild girlfriends. In other words, it's only to remove the convo from your UI so that it's like the convo never happened. I don't think people should have to delete convos to "save space". It's more useful to have it on record that someone said something to you no matter what it is.

---

Would that be intuitive to yall? Got a better idea?

If I clicked on a button that says 'Delete', I would expect it to delete something.

I like that feature, I'm a hoarder so I hated having to clean out my PM box all the time.

Well, the question is whether or not your contributions to the chat are removed for everyone, or just for you.
I mean, my guild girlfriend could still show my irl girlfriend the messages I sent her if they're still in her inbox.
If I hit "leave convo," my comments would still show up in everyone else's inbox, right? I imagine so, since that is how it normally works.

Not that it really matters, because I'd just like to organize my inbox a bit. But its something to think about.

I read the title and guessed the problem you'd be talking about and came in here to voice the exact solution you described. So yeah, it works for me.

Would we be able to leave the conversation but still have in in our inbox? I've had a few conversations that I wanted out, of but wanted to keep a record of.

The way you've explained it seems to make sense -- I think that's roughly what I'd expect those two options to do if I were just suddenly presented with them, having no explanation beforehand.

Hrm, Leave and Delete could be confusing for some, as it seems that deleting a convo is also a way to leave it. You'd have to maybe call it something like 'Leave and Archive' to make clear the distinction.

Alternatively, you could have it say something like 'Go Inactive,' which could do the same thing of punting it to a separate folder, you not receiving any new messages in said convo, and having your name greyed out in the participants list for others still active in the convo. Logically, this could allow people to hit a Go Active button if they so desire to rejoin the convo. I don't see why someone should be blocked from rejoining a convo if they leave it. The only reasons I can think of for not allowing someone to rejoin a convo would be possible privacy concerns relating to what the other participants say there once the other person leaves (though they should know not to discuss private things in a group convo, basic logic, they should know to take it 1 on 1 for privacy) and the potential annoyance of people trying to re-invite you to a convo you don't want to be a part of; this can be solved very simply by an Active/Inactive system wherein only you can choose your active or inactive state in a convo. This system would allow for much less confusions and greater flexibility.

Also, since it wasn't stated explicitly, it should be made so that you can't be re-invited to a convo you delete because that just doesn't make any sense at all. What's the point of deleting your incriminating steamy convo with a guild honey if she can just reinvite you?

If you can't understand the difference between leave and delete you shouldn't be allowed to guild.

Gotta tailor things to the lowest common denominator if you want to avoid people getting upset and confused, sadly.

Or you can just make it so that you can delete conversations from the archive after you have left them. Make deleting something you manage from the archive, not the conversation itself.

I'd say Archive or Leave and Archive as Jorick suggested. I agree users shouldn't be able to be invited back to that convo by the other participants, but the user themselves should be able to request a re-invitation, I think, in case they closed the convo too early.

Delete seems to do what it says. Even on the oldGuild, or any other forum, if I delete a PM, someone else can usually still see their copy. It's not like a post where delete is complete removal, PM deletion is similar to email. I would expect the same behavior here, where whatever I do on my end of the conversation should have no effect on the other participants.

It might be nice if there was a third option, Mute, which simply cut off notifications for the convo. There would be some conversations that I'd like to be part of that are updated constantly, leaving me with six or seven PMs in the span of a few minutes, which will (eventually) generate a lot of emails and annoy me if I keep seeing the new PM indicator at the top. Mute would allow me to stop the notifications but still be able to participate in the convo and see new messages, they just wouldn't annoy me.
