It all started two years ago, in the year of 2018.
I woke up as, not a human, but as a large wolf/human hybrid.. I was… freaked out, to say the least. I had no idea what was going on. But I wasn’t the only one.
I took me about an hour but I managed to change into the shape of my human self again… somehow. When I turned on to watch the morning news the first thing I saw was a clip of a bunch of soldiers surrounding what looked like a really large lizard. I would have believed it was only an overgrown komodo dragon had I been anyone else, but waking up the way I did I realised that it was anything but. I was both relieved and frightened to realise that it was an actual dragon, and though it was almost four metres tall and looked like the perfect killing machine… all I could see was the fear and confusion in its eyes. It shied away from the guns that the soldiers held, constantly looking back and forth for a way to escape. It didn’t even seem to realise that it had wings to fly with.
And just like that, it changed. One second it was a four metres tall dragon and the next it was a boy barely out of his teens. If I hadn’t been fully convinced before, I was convinced now: I wasn’t alone when it came to becoming something else.
I remember it as being one of the biggest shocks in the world, and what followed did not help in the slightest. The United States government took notice which, in hindsight, wasn’t much of a surprise. They saw the potential in that dragon boy that showed up on the TV and immediately sought him out and recruited him.
He was the first of many.
Over the next several months more and more of these creatures showed up; people capable of shapeshifting into anything from dragons to harpies. We became collectively known as ‘Shifters’, and numerous tests and gruelling training revealed that not only did Shifters possess the ability to change their physical shape, but they also had latent magical abilities. Magic… a strange word in a modern world. A fairy tail concept made real, and it frightened a lot of people. Protest groups arose, demanding that Shifters be put down or at least controlled and regulated; separating ‘Them’ from ‘Us’ was the demand. It never happened, though not for lack of trying.
Time went on and Shifters became core in many operations of war, be it spying or direct conflict. Dragons, as one might guess, were exceptionally good when it came to direct confrontations, given their tough scales and flaming breath. Others, like the Nymphs, were spies of top quality. A woman that can wrap any man around her little finger and get him to tell her anything she wants. What could be better?
It wasn’t so last, however, not even with more and more Shifters popping up every month. One day the entire world of the Shifters, and a small group of humans was turned on its head.
25th of April 2020, a group of a hundred Shifters and twenty humans woke up in a world that was not their own. Enormous forest on one side, empty plains on the other and a blue sky above was what greeted them as they awoke. Waking up as a Half-Wolf was a surprise in and of itself, but waking up in an entirely new world was far worse.
- Entry from an anonymous diary.
Alright guys, the setting is as following. A hundred Shifters and twenty humans have woken up in a strange place that they have no memory of ever going to. To the west there’s a large empty plain with nothing but grass in sight. To the east there’s a large forest, also so large that even those capable of flight can’t see the end of it.
There is no immediate source of food and you only have one set of clothes of your choice (some people sleep naked. Don’t want to put them through an RP stark naked). Water is nowhere in sight either, but there might be some in the forest seeing as how there are some stag & doe-like animals if you wander into the forest a bit. If you’re lucky, you might even find a semi-intelligent creature that you could take for a pet (if it doesn’t bite your fingers off thinking they are celery stalks).
The world functions pretty much like Earth does, but the animals are different and not all of them are friendly. Expect potential attacks if you wander too far into the forest or out the plains. Basically, the water is drinkable and so are most fruits, nuts & berries, etc.
The beginning of the RP will be about settling in and trying to survive; find food and water. Build shelters and then, after that, possibly explore. Not all of the Shifters will agree with each other, nor will every human.
And important fact to note is that while these humans don’t seem to have anything to begin with, they slowly start to develop powers. Some might gain telekinesis from one day to the next (or even discover that they possess it upon arrival), while others might find themselves capable of controlling water the same day. Others might only discover it after a day or two. It may even be that one of the humans wake up as one mythological creature or another
This is only the prelude, as these humans will become Shifters at some point in the near future.
Future things may come such as other intelligent beings getting introduced, raids, minor fights between some people that don’t agree (groups forming), and so on. Nothing is set in stone yet.
One thing that’s important to note is that a Shifter can transform into mythological beasts only, so normal ones such as Jackals, cats, bears, etc. are a no-go.
1 - No godmodding. I will not tolerate it. The only exception is if you ask the other user if you can have his/her character do “x” and “x”, or ask them to make a Co-op post with you to make a longer discussion or other easier to write.
2 - Do not bring OOC into the IC. You may not like a certain player for whatever reason, but that is not an excuse for you to stab that player’s character in the back.
3 - While I don’t want to put in a minimum count of words, I would appreciate it if people did their best to keep their posts at 300 words or more (preferably more). This counts for everyone, even you. Yes you!
4 - Story above all. This ties somewhat together with #2. The story of the RP should dictate what happens and so on. So pay attention to what your fellow characters do as it may affect your own character.
- Character interaction is heavily encouraged.
- I am not adverse to multiple characters, but keep one your main character. If you have an idea for some secondary character you’re welcome to use that one as an NPC, or sorts. They could be a friend to your character, or just something who’s there. Just try to keep the number of such characters low, and keep them within the limits of the “Main Characters” in terms of power and such.
5 - Meta-gaming. A big no-no that will force me to give you a very big boo-boo if you do it. You may know something OOC, but your characters doesn’t unless he/she has actually witnessed it or heard it. For example, Dave Johnson a Were-Ferret Shifter won’t know that Dina and Dave made out deep i the forest without being there to see it, or being told.
6 - Please keep your writing in check. I expect at least decent grammatical skills, proper narrative with Italics for thoughts, quotation marks and so on. Also, no Wall-Of-Texts, please. They’re not pleasant to read.
- This rule does not mean that swearing isn't allowed! It very much is. This rule is only here to tell people that there are standards for the level of writing.
7 - No NSFW material. While relationships and certain levels of gore are allowed, things such as sex or otherwise are not allowed (as pr Site Rules).
8 - Have Fun!
