Character Name: Dreha Mahari
Species: Human
Species Description: A hardy race though not as hardy as the dwarves. They are more agile and quick than the dwarves but not on par with the elves. They are also not as talented with magic as the elves nor are they as strong as the dwarves, though they lie somewhere in between.
Gender: Female
Noteworthy Abilities/Limitations:Sword and Shield Proficiency - She is skilled with wielding both a blade and a shield and has mastered most techniques. The downside is that if you hand her a set of daggers or a lance she is going to be lost. She can fight just as well without the shield and picks up more speed without it but she likes the use of it's defense and bashing people out of her way when she needs to so unless she needs to face a faster enemy she tends to keep it on her.
Medium Armour - This means she is slower than those with lighter armor but not so slow she can't keep an eye on you and defend herself while you're dancing about... Probably she'll just let you wear yourself out before she runs you through. She has learned to work around the weight of her armor and to even work with it to move more nimbly and protect herself from more speedy enemies. This, again, does not mean she can keep up with less armored folk... it just means she can defend herself from them more effectively.
Hand to Hand - She can fight with or without a weapon or armor, though she dislikes it greatly. Being so vulnerable is against her nature and she avoids this whenever possible. This means, however, that she isn't as good as she COULD be... She could buy herself some time though, if she needed to.
Bravery and Naturally Protective- Where others might turn and flee, Dreha has learned to steel herself and push on. She will put herself in front of another in a heartbeat if she feels they are more important than her, or an innocent. This means, however, that she often puts herself in the middle of things and that isn't always the best place to be.
Tactics - She has learned, over time, the ins and outs of a battlefield having fought on them for most of her life. She is good at coming up with ways to avoid the most casualties or to stem the tide of an attack to buy time. She's learned outmaneuvering an enemy sometimes means being patient and taking losses...
Loyal to a Fault - Once Dreha swears herself to a person or a goal she follows it through even if it means she may have to lay down her life or go through with things she may find unpleasant. It comes as part of being a soldier and though she is so loyal she very much dislikes harming innocents and will often try to find another way to accomplish her goals without such things.
Champion - She is often the one to lead a charge or to ready the forces... She is good at raising morale.
Not very good at politics or social situations - As she is all business and very much a soldier, Dreha isn't very good with politics or making nice with the enemy. Dressing up is an irritating waste of time when trousers are perfectly fine and she often come off as either too stern or completely naive. When it comes to trying to make friends she has to rely on earning respect because she is so stiff in social situations that it becomes awkward. Flattery and jokes are often lost on her... even if she gets it she won't see where it is funny and even if she sees that you are flirting she won't see why as flirtation is pointless in her mind... She also fails at any kind of charm as using her gender as a tool is... not a strength.
Background:Dreha was an orphan, she did not know her mother or her father. After a brawl in the center of the orphanage yard in which Dreha was defending one of the younger children from one of the older bullies, she was labled a trouble maker and sold off to Eblistan's armies. She was trained from the age of seven and put on the field as a flag carrier at the age of twelve. As a girl, there wasn't much faith in the idea of her fighting. However, the battle that had been waged had been much more violent than anyone had expected as the elven peoples had refused to surrender even in the face of such overwhelming odds. Dreha saw this and took it as a lesson, the elves might be the enemy and they may have failed in their goal but the bravery they'd shown that day stuck with her. In the end, she'd been forced to abandon her flag and draw a sword from a fallen body to defend herself from a misery fueled elf that she quickly and remorsefully cut down. After that, she was no longer given flag duty. Dreha followed her commanding officers again and again into battle and as she grew older such fanciful wonderings about the similarities between the elven reasons for fighting and the human ones had faded. She became a soldier, nothing more and nothing less, though she desired a true cause to fight for rather than one that seemed full of never ending death in which neither side seemed willing to see reason. The night Jazeer had left, Dreha had been listening in on the arguement from a distance... In the end she'd chosen to follow him, a choice that it had take her an entire day to finally make. She did not take deserting an army lightly but she had decided not to see it in such light, instead she was remaining loyal to her beliefs... and they most certainly did not match up with a glory hound like the remaining brother. Jazeer's trail probably would have been simple for someone who knew anything about tracking but it was not in Dreha's skill set. She knew he was headed to the ruins and so it was there that she went and she'd not even known that she'd gotten ahead of him due to the fact that he was ill and she was on horse back. She'd found herself, instead, hearing the warning noises of a battle.
