Well, it's that time again folks, another rage-fueled indignant rant about things I don't like. Today's topic? Naughty Dog, or rather what they have become.

That's not as bad as what happened to Spyro. They bastardized and perverted all he stood for in PS2, and then reduced him to Skylanders. He is nothing more than a fucking Skylander character.

To be fair, same thing happened to crash bandicoot.

At least people I talk to have heard of Spyro. Jak? they wiki him and pretend they knew.

FREE, STOP MAKING ME REMEMBER HOW MUCH I FUCKING LOVE JAK AND DAXTER.
(also, you weren't really even Protecting Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite, she was invincible and shit.)
Out of curiosity, did you play Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus?

Yes, you were in the plot. Gameplay is irrelevant to that 'archetype' of story everyone eats up. (and yes, I did play that piece of shit all the way through. People always assume that I haven't played it when I say I hate it...)

And no, not yet. But soon. Soon.

Then you're missing out. I'd get a PS2 if I were you. they're pretty damn cheap now, I got mine for fifty bucks. The Jak games tend to go for around 15 bucks each on amazon.

If you've got a PS3 you can get the HD collection with the three main games for about twenty bucks from gamestop, but I wouldn't advise buying a PS3 just for that.

I remember Jak and Daxter.

I was six years old. Christmas of 2001. I had a PS1, but I never really got to play it because of my brother and sister. But the PS2 was mines, at least for that short while. Jax and Daxter was a mystical world with strange people I didn't understand, but at the same time knew so well that it both comforted and scared me. I didn't know what was in the water but I knew that I shouldn't swim in it. I knew that the ogres were evil despite no inclination in doing any harm to them, thus saving my life often. I never finished the game because, yo, I was six years old. I had a hard enough time fighting that one lava boss. But it showed me a world that was new to me, yet a place that I could think of and know that I have been there.

Unfortunately though my years, my memory is not as well as it used to be. Jak and Daxter has not been forgotten, merely a vague memory that haunts me to this day. I cannot say that I had the same attachment as you have Free, but for what it's worth, I know the feeling of anger and sorrow that comes with seeing that source of happiness past slip into the forgotten future.

They're wonderful charming games, now doomed to obscurity because the gaming industry has a massive hardon for games where you protect a girl. The last of us, The walking dead, Ico, Bioshock infinite (Which also sucked!), etc. Got one of those and a decent voice actor and animator for her? INSTANT FUCKING GAME OF THE YEAR.

To be fair, that's only a few games. There's still plenty like Inquisition and Shadow of Mordor and Evolve. Anyways, join the club. Spyro, Bandicoot, Jak. They're all doomed to be raped, stripped of what made them great and then shot behind the shed with no one noticing. Except for us, the miserable few. Hell, they've already done it to Bionical...

That's what we are then. the lonely few, standing an eternal vigil for the forgotten. Yes, the forgotten. It's only been ten years, but the world has moved on, not even bothering to say goodbye. I'll miss you, early 2000's, but I'll never forget.

So I figured. To hell with it and why not. THngs like my character's description tomorrow, his main weapon and minor fixes to his various fluff pieces will be amended tomorrow when I am far less tired.

Username: Ollumhammersong
Name: Sevarious
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Homeland: Umbra
Appearance: http://www.deviantart.com/art/Planetside-2-Ltiy-468985725, Hardened, military grade Plasteel Armour plates cover the majority of his body. Painted in the patterns and insignias of the Umbran Royal military. Of the 903rd Crimson Spectres battalion. (Will explain more below). The personal arm of the Royal of Umbra for generations. From Guarding the Palace, Smashing enemy formations and covert operations around the globe. The Battalion has changed names many times, Been given a variety of orders and has even had to under(Previous Royal family)
Size: 5'10”
Elemental Affinity: Darkness
Bio: Sevarious underwent the brutal training regime of the Umbran military when he was first of age to join.
Personality: The 903rd serves with pride and distinction regardless of who the current Czar is. They instill this great loyalty into their recruits with word and lash. Each man is a pillar or order and discipline. Cold and the potential for great brutality or acts of incredible heroism and bravery on the field. Sevarious is no exception to this. As a person he can be rigid and uncomprimising. Talking only when he feels it is necessary, seeing otherwise as wasted breath and the potential slip of the tongue to reveal more than your potential opponents need to know.

Loyalty is a virtue to be praised. A life given in service to Umbra and it's ruler is the only life that matters to a true citizen. At least as far as most of the Umbran military is concerned. As is a sense of brotherhood amongst his fellows in the Battalion. However concepts of honour and Righteouness are foreign to him. Such fantasies simply impede one's abilities to properly execute their orders. And can compromise their efficiency for future assignments.

He himself is not evil. He does not wantonly kill and maim all who cross his path. He receives his orders and carries them out to the best of his abilities. It is that simple. If that means killing the innocent child who stumbled upon the position of his squad as they crept silently through the streets towards their target, then so be it. As a true solider first and formost, He prefers to kill his victims quickly and mercilesly. One shot, or one thrust and the deed is done. He can move on to the next enemy. If he has a fault is that he prefers things to be meticulously planned and executed. Even in failure and retreat a well drilled platoon of Umbran soldiers will rarely be routed from the field. And he expects those around him to strive and emulate those standards. He can 'fly from the hip' as it were when it comes to strategy and improvising to complete his goals to great effect but that is hardly preferred.
Skills: Miltary tactics (i.e Breeching rooms, Dropship insertions, Seek and destroy, Capture and extract, Sneaking through a variety of Landscapes if necessary, etc)

Marksmanship,

Basic Field medicine/Battlefield trauma

Honed reflexes and mild paranioa.
Equipment: Battle armour,
Broad bladed Combat knife,
Heavy Pistol 3x15 round magazines.
Basic medical kit for most Field injuries
Shield Emitter (Right bracer) Emits a Sturdy energy shield that can absorb at least a handful of opening shots fired against him. Giving him time to react in response to the threat. If drained completely the shield will need time to recharge before, though while recharging the shield is still active just to the lesser degree equal to the current state of charge.
-(to be added when I am no longer dead tired)
Other: The personal arm of the Royal of Umbra for generations. The 903rd has served with pride and distinction for nearly as long as the Nation of Umbra itself. It's services while vital had frequently varied, In one form or another through the centuries. From Guarding the Palace, Smashing enemy formations and covert operations around the globe. The Battalion has changed names many times, Been given a variety of orders and has even had to under(Previous Royal family) Sometimes had even had to lie low for years at a time only for the Battalion to be miraculously and 'officially' Re-enstated with a new branding and a new name for the public eye to suit whatever Czar was currently giving the orders.

It's battle honours are many and it's standard still hangs each of them with pride regardless of how many times the batallion has changed names. Letting it's recurits and members know the truth that the regiment has never actually died in it's history. Negavtive publicity, Political pressure from the outside may have caused it to be more secretive about itself. But no matter the Czar, they are hesitant to ever remove such a potent tool from their arsenal completely.

The reason for such is the Battallion's rigid sense of discipline and much criticized brutalitiy both in training it's recruits and what it does to those unfortunate enough to be labeled as it's enemies. It is not that the men are Evil persay, Simply that the Men have (at least many think this) no actual souls that can enable them to conjure any sense of pity or remorse for some of the deeds they commit in the name of the Czar. If an example needs to be made (If the current Czar is a particularly vicious individual), The spirit of an enemy force crushed and their morale sent to plummeting lows. Then the Battalion is the perfect tool to do so. Over the years they have created the scenes of Bile-renching horror of their victims. Enough that their Regiment is now a byword for extreme terror and a horrible death. Bodies hung by their own entrails have been left to rot for scouts to stumble upon. Victims of interrogations recorded and returned to their commanding officers or families. Dumped dead or wishin they were on the proverbial doorstep. And the list gets progressively darker the deeper one digs. Their is no act these men have not been conditioned to shrug off or detatche themselves from completely. Or any sense of shame or moral Outrage for the lives of those they maim/kill or those it effects.

Currently the 903rd is in a period of unofficial downsizing under the current Czar. Him being a far kinder and relatively gentler ruler than most is preferring not to rely on the distinguished battalion to much. And for the sake of public image is making it seem like they are ebing cut back. In reality the battalion has simply dispersed many of it's members. It is keeping a token 'core guard' for the Czar's palace but the majority of it's numbers have been allowed to return to their homes, Re-purposed into other Umbran military regiments or left to their own devices to travel as they see fit. All of these soldiers train and retain their loyalty and membership to the Battalion. But officially they are either 'rogue' or dismissed. All of these soldiers are still capable of receiving orders from the Heavily incrypted, deeply hidden and private comm-lines. The line is only used sparringly and has proven near impossible to even detect, much less crack through it;s layers of protection and convoluted encryptions. Not even the Technichians know each of the codes and passwords individually. Such information is kept compartmentalized for the good of Umbra.

These orders could be anything during times of war but at a down period such as thing a signal sent over that channel would only mean that the 903rd is gathering for reformation. And that all members must stand by for further instructions.
