Well... It's hard to explain, but it pulls it from the area around it, anything that produces any sort of energy, even cells, it can use to restore any lost power.

Within one of its cores, it is so dense that it generates its own atmosphere, along with having the necessities to do so. Basically, its a tiny planet within it.
But, unfortunately, it cannot use one element to its full potential. But it can get pretty close.
