It doesn't have that capability. Consider them anchors, and they can be used to latch onto different entities. In my case, I anchor myself to this timeline. You can use them to anchor ethereal beings to reality as well.

It does. It wears off after some time and can be overcome with enough force. So if I change the future drastically, even twenty Threads wouldn't be enough.
