here's my CS:

Name: Amanda Holden
Age: 33
Species: Human

Personality: When it comes to business, Amanda will get what she wants, and she will do anything to get it. Literally anything. She doesn’t let anything get between her and payday, and that’s exactly how she likes her business. Any emotional baggage is set aside for later.

However, when the business is wrapped up, Amanda really loosens up. She becomes a much more pleasant and enjoyable person, and is incredibly sociable. Some would say she’s too sociable.

Skills overview: Amanda has decent combat training, though she excels at business management and in social situations.

Position on crew: Amanda’s primary role is in the day-to-day and long term management of the ship’s business operations, though she is also useful (and commonly utilized) in a soldier role.

Years on crew: 4

Bio: Born into an upper class family in England, Amanda’s early life was defined by a luxurious, easy life complemented by a family that didn’t quite want her. During her teenage years, she turned to drugs and began running with a group of people that weren’t the best influences on her emotional development. Her drug habit built up and Amanda began to amass a debt to her suppliers. By the time she was 18, it became clear to her creditors that she couldn’t pay off her debts. They murdered her family, leaving her with absolutely nothing, and threatened to put her to work running drugs across Europe in order to pay off her debt.

In order to escape, Amanda joined the military and found herself sent to space. She served for two years, amassing basic military knowledge, though she did not understand or appreciate the rigidity of the military life. She eventually abandoned her post and roamed space, taking up odd jobs in order to sustain her nomadic lifestyle. She moved from ship to ship, simply enjoying the freedom she found in space, where she truly felt that she came into her own.

At twenty-seven, Amanda found Trade Station Alpha. There, she signed up with a small smuggling ship, where her talents in business management were recognized; with Amanda at the helm of their business operations, the smuggling ship began to excel and profits rose at an unimaginable rate. After two more years with the smugging ship, Amanda moved on, looking for something new to refresh her life. She met Julius, and has stuck with him ever since.

Baskets: Sounds like, as a former smuggler himself, you and Julius have something to talk about. I assume you didn't work for the same smugglers, but at least you have something in common. I put Chris down as becoming a trade adviser later, but he literally only knows Earth and its markets, no matter how lucrative they can be when the government doesn't get its cut, so, no threat there. Approved.

yeah, I made the same assumption about smuggling as well. as for Chris, I figured he could use an advisor for how the business world works in space. x)

I'll copy this over to the OOC.

So as far as futuristic weapons go, what do we got?

Like lasers and shit or...

i never understood how laser guns worked tbh

like it just seems like bullets would be more effective, you know?

maybe some kind of high tech laser bullets

yeah

laser bullets

Well with the existence of Crystal batteries the laser would work by focussing a beam of heat energy through several lenses, they would shoot like the laser rifle in fallout. Think of focussing the sun with a magnifying glass but with the power to melt through metal.

Laser bullets however would be like a particle beam, the weapon super charges particles inside the barrel and fires them with a short burst, they are highly volatile so they explode on impact but are very inaccurate.
Thats the energy based weapons

Kinetic weapons I would imagine would be the classic black powder or railguns like Mass Effect which shoot shards of metal no bigger than a grain of sand accelerated down the barrel with magnets. Those are more plausible because they work in space, plus again, batteries which would be vital for running the magnets.

Also there could be alien weapons like one I made up called a Shard Gun that works just like the Railgun but uses shards of a crystal that is broken up in the weapon and fired out either one at a time or in a massive blast with the shotgun form.

Now you just need the shards to explode a few seconds after impact. Sounds like I've heard about that somewhere.

Well, my characters have a rail gun (works by vaporizing or just heating the back half of the "needle" by letting it short thousands of volts of electricity through it, which pushes it forward. The Gauss gun uses electromagnets to accelerate metals.) and a laser bow, which just has a more advanced version of an industrial laser on the handle.

The reason you don't use normal guns is because:
1) the ammo's bulky and heavy. This severely limits the number of rounds you can carry.
2) They require oxygen to fire, so useless in space or non-oxygen atmospheres
3) They work by building up pressure in a casing behind the bullet, which propels it. There's only so much pressure you can put into something before it starts to crack, so expensive alloys would be required to make the firing chamber strong enough to let you use, say, C-4 to fire a round.
4) By this point chemical explosives store less energy per cm^3 than batteries, so it's an inferior way to fire a weapon.

If you really want a classic gun style, you could use a plasma explosion to propel it. That would lower ammo size and weight, and let you use standard batteries as a power source.

Everyone: I added a little self defense training to Chris, but it makes sense as the crime rate is probably outrageous on Earth.

I didn't even think about weapons. Zip won't need one due to him having drones to defend him. Izzy on the other hand would need one, just incase. Hmmmm
