Meruin swung her hands in an arc while chanting. A gray book opened up behind her and released several pages, each one sticking to a chunk of rock. stopping their momentum and eating their magic, sending them crashing back to the ground.

Meruin, still chanting, then pointed a glowing finger at Tyler. A bolt lightning snaked towards Tyler. Meruin intended to explode Tyler out of that armor.

Tyler created a shield of earth to ground the lightning. If that failed then Tyler jumped back just in case. He summoned some fire around him and then shot more earth bullets through the fire. This created flaming earth bullets to burn through any paper she used to defend herself.

The lightning obliterated the earth shield rather than electrocute it. Meruin saw Tyler send the flaming miniature meteorites and idly wondered how funny it was that their positions were reversed from yesterday. More papers flew towards the general area of where the flaming bullets were and exploded, dispersing the projectiles.

Meruin opened another book while still chanting and slammed her hand on it. A purple light shined around her and suddenly there were five Meruins and a hundred+ books floating in the air.

Tyler dropped his earth armor and shot into the air with a combo of fire and wind magic. He surrounded himself with a fire armor and dashed through the books burning them as he went through. He got his scythe out again and lengthened it with wind. He slashed at all the Meruins as it was long enough to do so.

Sol grunted as Liz slammed into from behind and he fell on the ground "gahbarghf, get of me would ya?!" Sol pushed Liz off him and stood back up, he had been much to engrossed in watching the intense fight to pay attention to people walking in. "Meruin is fighting Tyler because he challenged her for rank 20." Sol replied still somewhat annoyed at having been randomly tackled. "Heya Mutt." he added as an idle side-note.

Meruin was tempted to snort. As if highly magical and explosive books would be burned that easily. You'd need a special kind of magic to burn the books Master had given her.

As Tyler at one of the Meruins, it promptly fazed out in a dim purple flash, and a dark paralysis curse coursed through Tylers scythe, making it's way towards him. In the meantime, Meruin kept chanting, nearly finishing her spell.

[Flood]

Tyler threw away his scythe as he created some clones of himself out of water. He grabbed a water bottle out of his pocket and drank some water. He then spit it out in a mist form to create a massive smokescreen. He hid in the mist and pulled a knife out. He threw it at Meruin hoping it wasn't another clone.

The Meruin was a clone, but it wasn't about to let Tyler know that. Instead it dodged away from the knife as it saw it coming, and the real Meruin generated a spell in front of the clone who mimicked casting, so that it looked like it was the one making the spell. A ball of compressed air exploded outwards, clearing a wide area from the smoke.

All of the Meruins raised their hands up, and soon all of them hand a barrier surrounding them while they all continued chanting.

"Meanie." Liz pouted and started to watch the fight "People are not really allowed to kill the opponent in these matches are they?" She asked feeling concerned for Meruin though she seemed to be holding her own through use of chanted spells.

"Hey" Mutt said awkwardly. When the two collided, Mutt transformed into his wolf form, and walked past each, to pass his broad tounge over their scratches and abrassions, which seemed to heal like magic afterwards. Mutt layed down on his stomache after, to watch the fight, and even interferre if he thought it was necissary, though he doubted he would have to. Pretty much everybody he saw fighting ended semi peacefully, or about as peacefully as you could after eating somebodies fist, practically with a fork and knife.

Lisana walked out of the dorm and started walking towards what she sensed as a two big magic sources classing in what looked like a gym "must be another duel" she said as she reached the building and walked inside only to see that others were already there watching the fight between the two unfold so she masked her presense so that she wouldn't be noticed and challenged again and made her way onto one of the ceiling beams to get a better veiw of the fight from above.

Tyler frowned and moved away from Meruin once more. It appeared as if she was very proficient in barrier spells judging by how solid they looked. He decided to move back and let the spell finish. But first he erected a 4 element barrier around himself just in case.

Meruin smiled. Tyler thought that she was chanting an offensive spell, if that rather impressive elemental barrier said anything. She closed her eyes and let the feeling of magic rush over her. She was worried that he might be able to stop her from chanting, but it seemed he was nowhere near as physically adept as Sol or Mutt. The spell she'd just finished was a mana conversion spell. The used up energy in the air was now a weapon for her to use.

Then she activated Grand Pheonix Ritual in the gym, and lifted the golden bookmark she'd pulled out earlier. Her smile grew. Magic was amazing.

"Well, Tyler, I do not mean to sound condescending, but this is checkmate. I will give now to surrender," said Meruin, who's body was wreathed in a faint gold and red flame.

Mutt watched in astonishment. He had seen that identicle spell before! But where?!?! Mutt rattled his brain looking for where he had seen this spell before. "Hmmm..." He said to himself, before taking deep sniffs of the air. Suddenly his eyes popped! His father had used the same spell last time Mutt saw them! But he had used crystals instead of fire.

Could there be a resemblence in the spells? Could Meruin Know my father?!?! Did I just smell bacon?!?! Mmm i love bacon. Bacon and smores taste so good! Mutt thought to himself as he began to drool. Then he remembered there was afight and retrained his focus on it.

"Let me think about it... No." Tyler's barrier around him crumbled as he revealed an armor of lightning infused water around him. "To think I have to reveal my trump card so soon. Sigh." Tyler's new armor appeared to be very ornate but released an aura of power around it. " This armor multiples my speed by ten times. It also makes me physically untouchable." He explained as he formed a broadsword made of earth. He dipped it into the ground and it came out flaming. " At the end of this battle I'm definitely going to be passed out, but it'll be worth it. Eventually." He leaped into the air and began moving at mach speeds around Meruin. He was producing afterimages he was moving so fast. He waited for Meruin to make her move.

Meruin smiled faintly. "Never explain your abilities to a mage, Tyler. Haven't you heard? A magician never reveals their secrets."

The golden bookmark in her hand was a spell that was given to her as a gift from her Master. It would allow her to use the full potential of her books; as long as she had the energy and stamina, all Meruin had to do was swipe the card through a book and she could use any spell written inside instantly with no chanting time whatsoever - it was basically a magical cheat sheet. And Tyler had given her time to finish casting her mana cycling spell plus her Phoenix Ritual. There was no stopping her.

Meruin swiped the bookmark through seven books, and the following events happened:

1. A sphere of water expanded outwards in a diameter of 10m with as much force as a steamroller.
2. Large webs of lightning followed afterwards, trailing after the water or snaking upwards.
3. A large hand made of earth grabbed Meruin and concealed her inside, all the while shooting spikes in random directions.
4. Globes of light began appearing on the battle field - magical mines that sapped the energy of whatever came close to it.
5. A large magic circle burst into life above earth where Meruin was shielded, and a golden veil of magic spread over it.
6. Seven wolves made of fire formed a defensive circle around the area, snarling with lava dripping from their fangs.
7. The whole gymnasium began faintly glowing golden.

Tyler shrugged. He simply began dodging everything. His reaction speed multiples by the armor made him essentially untouchable either way. Water and lightning did nothing to him because of his mastery of water magic and the lightning surrounding him respectively. All he had to do was hijack the water magic and redirect it at the fire dogs putting them out. He absorbed a portion of the magic from the water spells which regenerated his magic and then let the water dissolve. Then he dodged whatever spikes shot at him. 'Thank god the main portion of magic using this armor was used in forming it. Keeping it active has become easy after a year of practice.' Tyler thought to himself. He simply had to continue dodging and wait for her to tire out. She can't just keep throwing spells like these forever. 'Can she?'

She could keep throwing spells like this all day!

If Tyler hadn't given her that extra hour to prepare, there was no way she would've pulled this off. She'd have to thank whoever established that rule of 'the challenger obeys the challenged conditions' later. While inside her earthen shield, Meruin kept swiping the bookmark (it's official name was 'Golden Authority') and sent spells flying one after another. Normally, she would be drained and dead tired, but that was what the ritual was for.

Meruin frowned. It seemed her Hell Wolves where destroyed already. That meant she needed to change plans; she activated a spell and began singing, he soft voice slowly spreading across the gymnasium.

Tyler shook his head. This wasn't getting anywhere at all. He heard singing which wasn't a good sign at all. He formed some earplugs out of water so he could filter out that singing. He made a couple of spears out of water and sent them at her shield to test her defense.

Kevin still lost happened to pass by the gym and decided to check it out before he goes back to his search for that Tyler guy he met earlier. He nibbled on a piece of fish like the cat he was as he recognized on of the fighters. "Hey that's Tyler.....so that chick he's fighting must be number 20." He stood next to Mutt and put a hand on his shoulder. " Hey Mutt who is that girl Tyler is fighting?"
