"Yair!" A small voice calls out from down the hallway. Currently, the human the voice belonged to was struggling with the biggest, hardest trial she'd ever faced.

...

Making pancakes.

The poor girl stood in the small kitchenette she and her brother had been given, a puff of black smoke rising in the air in front of her. Standing at a measly 4'8, the black haired child cried her heart out. All she'd wanted was to make breakfast for her brother but she'd messed everything up. Soon, the smoke reached the fire alarm and a loud, piercing siren sounded throughout the room, piercing her brother's bedroom as well as most of the rooms around them. The officials downstairs were being notified and the fire department was being called. It was a government building, after all.

"Y-air!" She yelled again, her voice cracking from the tears, her body shaking as she hiccuped rather violently. One would be hard pressed to believe she was actually 18 years old. She looked more like a 10 year old, carrying on the way she did. Soon, she was on the floor, wailing like her life depended on it, a black heap of... what was pancake batter in the frying pan.

I only took my eyes off of it for a few seconds, max! Or... Was it longer...

Truthfully, Lucy had done what she usually did. She had been daydreaming. What about? Nothing at all. Simple things girls usually daydream about. Knights on shining white horses, unicorns frolicking in a forest meadow, the usual things. She didn't even think about using her powers to douse the flames... Lucky for her, anyway. It she had, she'd probably have made an even bigger mess.

Yair feigned a peaceful sleep in his room as the siren's screech wailed about. He ignored it at first, focusing as hard as he could on the back of his lids and it appeared to work for a time. The incessant ringing broke through finally as he came to terms that it was indeed time to get up.

Eyes snapping open as he peered up at the ceiling of his small issued living quarters. The white dull gleam of the polished steel blending away at the corners of the room with the matching walls. They had told him he could decorate it, but he need never arose. The blinking light in his own rooms smoke detector flashed rapidly in unison with the sirens ringing. He let a small grin form on his face as he heard his name being sobbed from the kitchen area. A routine stretch that was more a habit then a necessity was all he needed before stepping quietly into the kitchen.

Peering around the corner he found the helpless figure sobbing about the floor. His smile widened as he assessed what had happened. This sister of his could be hopeless sometimes. He walked over to the window and propped it open to let the air out so the rooms smoke could clear out and give the poor smoke alarm a break. There wasn't much else he could really as he was sure about three hundred men were about to storm their little home they had here.

He plopped down next to his sister as he listened to her continuing sobs. Dropping a hand on her he laughed lightly as he leaned back against a chair.
"What are we going to do with you?"

She jumped slightly when she felt someone come close to her. She glanced up to see her brother laughing at her, his hand on her head.

"What are we going to do with you?" He spoke simply, chuckling to himself.

"I'm going to die!" Lucy bellowed, being overly dramatic. As if on cue, the front door burst open as several firefighters entered the room and looked around. They dropped their arms as they noticed the smoke from the stove and the girl sitting on the floor, sobbing near what seemed to be her brother.

One of the men waved the others away as he came closer to Lucy and Yair and removed his headgear. He knelt down next to Lucy with a soft smile on his face. "It's going to be fine. Just... remember to pay attention next time, okay? Read the directions carefully." He told her, his voice gruff but soothing. She quickly shook her head up and down, trying to make everything go faster, she just wanted it all to end.

The man stood and nodded at Yair, "You take care of her, okay?" He spoke, smiling. Soon, he was out the door and the sirens stopped. The only sound in the room being the soft hiccups of a very frightened 18 year old girl.

"I didn't mean to Yair, I swear! I just... I kind of... dozed off for a second... or two." She explained, avoiding Yair's eyes. She already felt bad about this whole situation.
