"Thanks for that," said Shiranui after receiving Kaki's Safari Ball, "The reason that Dragon Rush didn't work is because Sylveon is one of a recently discovered type of Pokémon called the Fairy type—immune to Dragon-type attacks, weak against Poison and Steel-types and strong against Fighting and Dragon-types. That is something Clair would be up against as well."

Clair and Joy entered the gym. Clair walked over to the challengers. She told them that it will be five pokemon each. She started with Gyarados. Liam called on Chansey.

"Dragon Dance!" Clair called.
"Thunder Punch!" Liam called back. Gyarados began fluid dance movements to increase its attack and speed. Chaney smacked an electrified fist into the serpent-like Pokemon, making it roar in pain.
"Rock Smash!" Clair called.
"Minimize Chansey!" Liam's quick thinking allowed Chansey to up its evasion and avoid a super effective hit.
"Dragon Pulse!" Clair called. Chansey took the attack and Liam called for Mimic, allowing Chansey to use Dragon Pulse until she retuned to her ball.
"Rock Smash!" Clair called again
"Thunderpunch!" Both attacks hit, and Gyarados succumbed to the electrified punch. Gyarados was swapped for Kingdra

"Smokescreen." Clair commanded.
"Soft-boiled!" Liam replied. While Kingdra set up a defense, Chansey healed up half of her health.
"Agility!" Clair called. Kingdra began to move faster ,to make hitting it much harder.
"Dragon Pulse!" Liam called. The attack was launched via Mimic. Kingdra evaded it.
"Toxic." Clair called. By doing so, she hoped to put a timer on how long Chansey would stay in the battle.Chansey was poisoned by the attack.
"Dazzling Gleam!" Liam called. the Fairy type move fired but missed.

"Now, Hydro Pump!" Clair called. The attack hit and was critical on Chancey. Liam asked for another Dazzling Gleam, which hit this time

One final Hydro Pump from Kingdra KO'd Chancey. Liam swapped her out for Dragonair.

"Twister!" Both trainers called in unison. the two attacks met in the middle of the arena and ripped one another apart.
"Dragon breath!" Clair called. the attack left Dragonair paralyzed. Dragonair was still able to use Dragon rush. Kingdra was KO'd and swapped for Clair's own Dragonair.

This battle of Dragonairs was fairly matched. It ended in a double KO via double Draco Meteor. Clair swapped out for Druddigon while Liam sent out Gible.

"Druddigon, the Cave Pokemon. It races through narrow caves, using its sharp claws to catch prey. The skin on its face is harder than a rock. It warms its body by absorbing sunlight with its wings. When its body temperature falls, it can no longer move."

Liam noted that her Pokemon was a rare muscular like Attrocitus and Sherlock.

"Gibble, Sandstorm!" Liam called. a sandstorm kicked up.
"Dragon Claw!" Clair called. The attack hit. Bible in a burst of rage evolved into Gabite.

"Gabite, the Cave Pokemon and the evolved form of Gible. It loves sparkly things. As it digs to expand its nest, it habitually digs up gems. It also seeks treasures in caves and hoards the loot in its nest."

"Dragon Pulse!" They both commanded. The explosion of energy KO'd Gabite. Liam sent Sherlock out.

"Dragonite, Rain Dance!" Clair called.
"Ice Punch!" Liam called. Both moves went off. the five turns of the downpour were brutal. A Hyper Beam and Dazzling Gleam collided. Sherlock was KO'd and Dragonite was word out, and needing to recharge. One hit would take down Dragonite. Liam called on Sylveon

After Clair healed her Pokémon, it was time for Shiranui to battle. Clair opened with Dragonair and Shiranui sent out Kanki.

"Dragonair, Twister!"
"Kanki, Dazzling Gleam!" The Togekiss let off a bright flash that caused some heavy damage on Dragonair. Dragonair conjured a tornado, but Kanki rode the spinning vortex and came out unscathed. "Dragon attacks won't work on Kanki," stated Shiranui.
"In that case, Dragonair, use Thunder Wave!"
"Kanki, return; Tachi, intercept!" Shiranui switched his Togekiss for his Espeon.

Tachi's fur bounced the attack back and Dragonair got paralysed instead.
"Dragonair, Dragon Rush!"
"Tachi, Psychic!" The Espeon launched a mental onslaught and Dragonair was knocked out. Clair sent out Gyarados and Shiranui switched Tachi for Hikari.

"Gyarados, Dragon Dance!"
"Hikari, Thunder!" After Gyarados performed a dance to increase its speed and physical power, Hikari sent out a bolt of electricity that was equivalent to lightning, zapping Gyarados into a one-hit knockout. Clair sent Druddigon out next and Shiranui switched Hikari for Kanki.

"Druddigon, Hone Claws!"
"Kanki, Air Slash!" The Togekiss sent a blade of air and Druddigon was struck, making the dragon flinch.
"Druddigon, Night Slash!"
"Kanki, Dazzling Gleam!" Kanki let off a bright flash that put Druddigon on its last legs. Druddigon gave Kanki a slash that was critical, but not very effective.
"Druddigon, Revenge!"
"Kanki, Sky Attack!" Kanki started glowing with energy as Druddigon executed a Revenge attack that Kanki had a double resistance to.
"Druddigon, Rock Climb!" Kanki zeroed in on Druddigon and struck the dragon with a coup de grâce that knocked it out. Clair switched Druddigon for Kingdra.

"Kingdra, Bubble Beam!"
"Kanki, Dazzling Gleam!" Kingdra fired a fast stream of bubbles that did some major damage on Kanki. The Togekiss let off another bright flash, causing a super effective hit on Kingdra.
"Kingdra, Brine!"
"Kanki, finish it with Dazzling Gleam!" Kingdra sprayed a jet of salty water at Kanki and the Togekiss was inundated, feeling more pain from the damage he sustained. Kanki was knocked out and Shiranui switched the Togekiss for Kaki.

"That's a bold move on your part, sending a Charizard out against my Kingdra," commented Clair.
"There's more to Kaki than meets the eye," rebutted Shiranui.
"Kingdra, Brine!"
"Kaki, Dragon Rush! Mega Ring activate!" Clair was surprised to see Kaki undergo a mega evolution. The orb broke to reveal a Mega Charizard X that quickly swooped in and sent Kingdra flying into the wall. Kingdra was knocked out and Clair switched it for Dragonite.

"Dragonite, Rain Dance!"
"Kaki, Outrage!" The Mega Charizard X flew into a berserker rage as she swooped in for a powerful super effective blow. Dragonite did a dance that caused rain to start falling in the battlefield, weakening the power of Kaki's Fire-type attacks.
"Dragonite, Twister!" Kaki swooped in for another hit and Dragonite was knocked out. Kaki breathed out a blast of blue flames in victory and Shiranui won the Rising Badge.

"Ah right!" Liam declared. Clair informed them that the tournament was to be at Mt. Silver, Southeast of town. She also theorized that Kaki could likely get them there in twenty minutes. Blackthorn's Joy, who was there to watch the battle insisted on making a meal for them before they left.

"I would like that," Shiranui accepted.

The three went back to Liam's place, where Florence was already working on supper. Liam told Shiranui about one time when he was five a trainer who met him the Pokemon Center. Joy told the trainer Liam was her son. The trainer said that being a boy born to a Joy was like being "'the shiny Pokemon of humans"

"Well, the same would be said for a son of a Jenny," Shiranui remarked, knowing that like the Nurse Joys, the Officer Jennies were a family of identical siblings with one in at least every major city, "Did you dye your hair black to mask your heritage?"

"Well, not entirely. It just isn't a real good idea for a little boy to walk around with pink hair." Liam then went on to explain he used a very special hair dye that used Bluk berries as the coloring agent. Every couple months he would sneak out of their room at the pokemon Center and his aunt/cousin in charge there helped him dye it. Soon after, Florence began bringing food out and placed the bowls on the table. The table had six chairs around it. Joy took one and Florence took one next to her's Liam left the next two, which is where his dad and his dad's Alakazam sat empty and took one of the final two chairs.

Shiranui took one of the chairs. "That smells delicious," he commented.

Florence said something that would have been equivalent to 'thank you'. Soon after Liam's dad and his Alakazam entered and came to the table. He then greeted everyone as he sat down.

"Hello Mr. Coleman," Shiranui greeted back.

"So, you two got the badge yet?" Mr. Coleman asked.
"Yes, we did dad." Liam replied showing off the Rising Badge. "We are going to head off for Mt Silver in the morning."

[James Davy]

"And we'll get there by air," added Shiranui.

Liam's dad commented that it should take them no time if they go by air, and they would have plenty of time for training.

[James Davy]

"That was the intention," replied Shiranui, "We'll need all the time we can get."

After the meal, Joy took the pokemon and healed them up. It was starting to get late after that and Joy insisted they get to bed early.

"After two big battles in one day, I'll need the rest," replied Shiranui.

A pull out bed was pulled into Liam's bedroom and was made up for Shiranui.

"Thanks Liam," said Shiranui, putting his Poké Balls next to his backpack.

"No problem." Liam replied. He deposited his Pokeballs onto the nightstand.
