I prefer the term "Thrall". Gives freemen a grander title but doesn't make the servant feel unappreciated.

Thrall implies that you are nothing but a vessel that does menial labor.... I'd rather be called a slave than a thrall... I mean, they're essentially the same thing.. but thrall just sounds a lot more condescending

I feel there has been so much posted we need to summarise the lore we have added, including minor character names
Also what are we going to call the actual country? And is it going to be a vassal, and if so to whom? Probably Quirek, who enslaved the Sudalians

Yeah, we should mention the stuff.

And if we a vassal, yeah, Quirek seems like it'd be a powerful nation, after all they conquered other civilizations. And as we have the practice of slavery occurring, it'd probably be them introducing us to it, alongside other cultural values.

Part of me wants to be naughty and post IC to get some story progression going. I mean, bootlaces and buttonholes don't matter until you inspect them closely, right?

History tells us they normally provide the nobles with luxury goods, and bugger all else
Luxury goods including silk, gems and slaves

Well, they are a nation based on conquering, they probably focus heavily in mining, so they can forge new weapons, perhaps they also have quite a bit of jewels and salt at their disposal.

Well bootlaces and buttonholes are rather important as they help keep the shoe intact, and usable. Or something like that.

Well spotted, I forgot all about it

So Rostguard is a vassal to the militarist empire of Quirek. What do you think Rostguards government is like, and how bigger place do you think it is?

Well it has a port city, Fayport, so I imagine Rostguard itself is probably a fairly large nation. Alongside the other assorted smaller villages, and other prominent cities. As for the government, I imagine they are fairly concerned in mercantile interests. As for laws, if they are a vassal to the militarist empire, I imagine they are rather harsh in regards to disobedience of the laws. If they are mercantile, most of the harsher punishment would belong to thieves and other scoundrels who directly hurt the nation's trading. And perhaps fairly diplomatic to nations for trading, but with an eager eye to bring them down, if they can without too much harm to their economy.

True and true, if the government is interested in mercantile and trade it is probably a council of nobles with an almost puppet king. When a country becomes a vassal it normally adopts the laws of its counterpart, so harsh punishments are likely

I imagine the council is bound to include some well off merchants, who know their trade.

Where do you think nobles come from? Noble blood but impoverished marries a rich merchantman's daughter. Noble gets money, merchant gets to live the rest of his life knowing his legacy shall be powerful

Ah yes, but if it continues for long enough, they may forget -how- they got that way, and only focus on the fact they are rather powerful. There is a difference between 'fresh' and 'old' nobles.

I'd say the Council would have 'Old Money' who've always known they were awesome because of something they did, but it also has (being infected by, as the Old Money would say) the 'New Money' who just got to that position. And that causes some internal bickering...

By all means, this isn't me and Proffesor_Wyvern's RP, if it was I'm sure we would both get rather bored
